i love betrayal at the house on the hill, my favorite memory of this game was when the scenario was that the house was falling into hell and the entire basement had already been swallowed up, my friend said we needed to explore more of the house to make it so we didn't get swallowed up. He goes into the next room, flips the tile.....its a chute going to the basement, he literally slid into hell
Shit talk about the one way ticket
I've done the same thing as your friend lmao
Oh wow!!! That's awesome!
Should've had the orb
"Super fun happy slide!"
I'm coming back to appreciate not only the episode of Tabletop that began my love for tabletop games, but my love for tabletop the show, and the first game I purchased for the start of my collection. I miss this show and wish it was still a thing, but I'll never get tired of watching the old episodes.
I love how they start the game.
Heroes: "This house is super suspicious..."
Character #1: "MY BIRTHDAY IS TOMORROW I GET TO GO IN FIRST" :D
All else: "Okay then..."
+Annabelle Kisky I saw this really funny alteration on BGG where someone put the Scooby Doo characters art over the characters in this game. So it's Daphne, Velma and the rest.
BGG?
Annabelle the Unicorn queen lol
Board Game Geek, it's a site about board games.
"curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal" well done Will Wheaton
Alvaro Ramirez Oh god I know that’s a reference but to what? It’s gonna kill me
@@paulollarsabaiii9824 'tis a Firefly reference, if I'm not mistaken, when Wash was playing with his dinos in the pilot episode.
*Wha-will wha-Wheaton
@@danielharvison7510 Well, you´re not wrong, but I´m sure that was a reference itself. I mean, it´s a pretty well-known phrase at this point.
My guess would be to go back to either the original Star Trek, or the one that actually had Will in it, so the reference is relevant.
I bought this game because it looked like a lot of fun on the show. I played it with my friends and had a blast! I'd like to thank Geek and Sundry as well the creators of the game for the great experience!
Rewatched this again today. This so entertaining and fun to watch! It’s a shame this format stopped to see how good this is. Thank you Wil and the production team for putting so many episodes together. And for the inspiration for playing board games of course.
If I had money, I would pay money to be on this show. Playing board games with witty and funny people who are into the same shit as me? Yes please.
I have the original version of Betrayal at House on the Hill. I have forced my friends and family to play it with me countless times. I think the first time I ever played it was back in 2003.
I want this game so bad.
I just need friends willing to do anything other than drinking...
We've got one of those in our group. Drinks 18 beers in a game night (yes, 18). Thankfully, just one. And he can be uninformed about game night 😜
Hey, I have a lot of experience in converting “drunk nights” into “drunk game nights.” And eventually just “game nights with a few beers.”
Start super, super small. Card games are best for this. They get people used to sitting around a table and there’s no social baggage/convincing that has to occur. Simple, fast paced, take-that card games like Uno work well. Love Letter is another quick, fun card game. Then after a few nights of that, switch to Munchkin, or Settlers of Catan, or Carcassonne, or The Resistance, or Steve Jackson’s Zombies, or all (depending on group). Risk or Risk:Legacy are great to try as well, as they get players used to long games.
Don’t try switching games during a single night (unless folks ask for it and/or the new game is a step down in complexity). Pick one game and stay with it until people get tapped or too drunk, then do something else for the rest of the night. Keep the games light and fun and slowly increase the complexity over time.
Games like the one played in this vid are great fun, but they tend to be a-couple-times-a-year events (at least in my experience), because they take so much time. The vid here is edited down quite a bit.
I sympathy with you.
The 'anything other than drinking' kinda doesn't work for Swaim...
@@RoyAnderson me and my group of friends just did exactly what you described and we purchased Mysterium like a month ago. We bought this game a couple of weeks ago and have already played it 3 times. We're already thinking of getting Robinson Crusoe adventure on the cursed island next. Loving game nights so much. Few beers and chill.
I would say this is not only a fantastic quick game, but is also a great way to dip your feet into the world of role playing. This game relies a lot on how the dice fall, so there really isn't much skill here. The joy comes from when my friends and I embrace and bring our characters to life. For example, we played a game where it essentially turned into an episode of Scooby Doo, one of us was really accident prone, one kept finding food related rooms, and one of us kept finding random stuff to use.
Quick? Lol dunno about you but most of the time ive played this its taken at least an hour and a half to two hours 😅 haha
I'm pretty sure they even have a Scooby Doo version actually
@@leonthelionhart15 That's.....kinda speedy for these types of games.
"There are three levels to the house." *laughs in Widow's Walk*
... but beware! it carries a terrible curse!!
thats bad!
but it comes with a free frogurt!
thats good!
the frogut is also cursed.
thats bad
but you get your choice of topping!
thast good!
the topping contains potassium benzoate.

thats bad
xD
That went like a Team Rocket conversation...
It contains potassium benzoate
That's bad...
And it's rainbow color WILL kill you.
That's good!... Or is that bad...?
"Can i go now?"

I'm re-watching these awesome tabletop sessions. Fun fact: I watched these about 6 years ago. One year later, I watched Critical Role for the first time ever. I have never looked back until now.
just that intro about good or bad is brilliant
*is good
TheOneLichemperor is that good or bad?
Yes.
Third edition released. And the algorithm offered me up this gem reminding me that it is already (almost) 9 years old. Fucking Christ ... where did the time go? What a timeless classic this episode was
kids here is a lesson: never go to the library
XD
Or; ALWAYS go to the Library ;)
@@springerjkreb just got this game for Christmas. Yes you yet knowledge!
I can't be the only one who thinks that Kahuanui is an awesome-ass last name
***** yeah, I played Civ :b
Kawhonow?
Moana
Yeah. Beautiful name (though possibly not as great as Owls Goingback). I'm guessing Hawaiian in origin. A very lovely language.
I have seen all the Table Tops, and I love re-watching them.
This needs to be replayed in Season 4 using the Widow's Walk expansion.
CAPSLoCK this got an expansion
CAPSLoCK ?
Macker Cunningham Yep! Adds a whole new floor (the rooftop) and an astonishing 50 NEW HAUNTS
50 new haunts!? Holy shit you dont need any other game but this! 100 different stories?!? Hours of fun!
Wild-Amber technically ... ther is a 101st Haunt, BUT every player has to have played through 4 seasonal based haunts before you are allowed to play this specific haunt.
Just remembered Ashley Burch talks for Chloe price, I need to get over life is strange... I'm seeing her everywhere! leave me alone!!! ;-;
"Whose sudden but inevitable betrayal will we curse?" I'M SO MAD
"Whose sudden but inevitable betrayal will we curse?" oh god I hadnt gotten that one the first time around XD
Ordered from Amazon! Just discovered this series and I didn't know there were this many awesome tabletop games out there. Finally, something to do with my Sunday afternoons!!!!
Yeah I just discovered Tabletop and love it! So many good games out there but everybody plays Monopoly n stuff
23:26 "when you found pentagrams under your bed... as a child" so umm, recently
oh man, when we played this, we used our real birthdays because we didn't see characters had birthdays :/
I.
Need.
This.
Game.
Man, I very nearly bought this game a year ago after playing it with a friend but I got side-tracked and forgot about it. Now I'm kicking myself because it is 4 times the price on amazon than it use to sell for.
threewiseman1
From what I've been reading, the game is set to go back into print, so don't cave in and pay these current prices for them. Hang in there and they should go back down again.
cannedcream Oh awesome, ty for the info!
cannedcream Everyone has now seen this episode and bought every copy that will ever exist in Australia. I, too, am hanging in there.
cannedcream
WHEEEENNNNNNNN???!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!? LOL I really want to play it. I think I have a local shop that used to sell it. Maybe they still do for the regular price.
Its fantastic that Swaim is playing this
So this is where Danny's been all this time
wasn't a big step from beacon hills to the house on the hill 👽
+phkva

po
?
I just realized that he was sitting at that table XD And you have a point phkva, I'm pretty sure that the House on the Hill is in Beacon Hills
Is that Wesley Crusher, Tiny Tina and that dude from Cracked? Now I have to watch this.
Eugenesis yes they said that at the beginning of the episode
Prediction before I watch Pt. 2: Michael will do something really stupid and get everyone killed.
OR, Michael will do something extremely awesome and win the game.
Could go either way, really.
Headrock At any rate he will be hilarious
Nope. The Teen wolf guy missed twice an got Michael and Hey Ash Whatcha Playin' killed.
No, the fact that you wish to put the comment down, and actively attempt to, is going against freedom of speech in the first place.
Also, seriously? It's a Wil Wheaton board game video. Who cares?
I agree.
I believe my group has the record for fastest haunt. I went first, I turned left into an omen and rolled a 0. OTH. Was great, I also was the traitor so I would've won too, only when I came back from reading the traitor manual they had started a new game without me.
"Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"

RIP Firefly 2002-2003
As someone who just got betrayal legacy after playing this game, so I play with my family, all I can say is, I love this game, and I also miss tabletop
I wish I had people to play this kind of game with unfortunately I have one or 2 family members who will
I love this game wish I had this game
i love your opening good=bad bit. it made me happy
My all time favorite board game, I remember one haunt with Frankenstein we were relying on my brother to push him off the tower because my brother was ox and had ridiculous might, I was father reinheart, my brother died so I picked up some of his gear and lured him to the tower, I drank a potion of strength, picked up my ax, put on the ring of power and hulked out of my clothes like master Roshi and sent that monster out the wall
I was expecting her Tiny Tina persona lol
TheUltimateLifeForce Did you see Tina Tina's Tea Party? Pretty epic.
spartygrad89 Is that DLC or something like this?
TheUltimateLifeForce It's a panel
Where did they get the better quality character cards?
Cause the ones in box are... well... shit (the plastic sliders mostly)
Yeah The Plastic Sliders Suck
Second printing had updated rules and compnents. Also, it has new box art (green house instead of three people).
Ani Kao I just got the 2nd edition like they are playing in the video, but the character cards still suck balls.
That sucks. Maybe it's custom? Mine is terrible original print. I like this game enough to want to buy a new version lol
Me and my friends put them in a vice to try to make them pinch more.
What a super duper fun game! The first time my gaming group played this game, the feedback was extremely positive and the atmosphere was really good. This is one of the few games that I own where the group wouldn't mind playing over and over again! Thanks GnS and Wil Wheaton for introducing me to this game!
This is my favorite table top game of all time! I've played it hundreds of time and still live it!
Love this game!! Had a great round the other night. The haunt started on the second round, and I thought we were screwed, but we pulled out the win!
I bet Swaim was pretty happy to get to actually hang out with Wil Wheaton. I'm jelly as hell.
OMG! Swaim and Ashly! holy fuuuck..
I miss this show!
I would like another session of this game. Hell, make a full webseries where Wil Wheaton just plays this game with various....wait I am describing tabletop arent I?...DAMMIT WIL WHEATOOOOON
ALL HAIL SWAIM KING OF IMPROV WHILE ON SHOOT
Bring back Michael for every game. I demand it!
In the collapsed room you don't fall to the Basement Landing... You fall to the next basement card
I am watching all these again man I wish they bring this series back
"And I'm the traitor Bitches." ha
It's sad that it turned out Ashly's shield was also named Molly in this game.
I love that ash is getting famous
She already is. She was in Borderlands ffs.
I've known about ash since before borderlands, and she only got that part because of her brother writing it, I meant she is striking off on her own and mingling with famous people now, she has renown
I just found out who she was yesterday. Already a big fan, though. She deserves it, imo.
check out their website, they have podcasts that are entertaining, also hawp is awesome
Hadn't occurred to me to check for a site, yet. I see the DToid thing at the end of all the videos, so I assumed it was just a part of that site.
This episode inspired me to purchase which is now my favorite game I own which is saying a lot.
The only house rule we have is that if we role a haunt we have played we just keep going as if we made the roll.
After all, there are 50 haunts to try and expansions to buy! Ain't nobody got time fr re-playing!
(since it is primarily the same 4 or 5 people playing lol)
Perhaps we will replay haunts eventually. After all it will likely not go the same way twice. But so many things to try it won't be any time soon and its so much fun to not know what the traitor is up to!
Omg! The first time I played this game I rolled the haunt on the first turn. In order to have a bit of a longer and more fun game my friends and I made a house rule that the first three omens cannot begin the haunt. It's made things a bit better for us, but I still to this day hear about it whenever we play this game! Lol
This is the second time I've watched this, and the first time I noticed the Firefly reference in the introduction. Wil, you are wonderful.
Anyone else watching this in 2019?
Paolo Almazan yup
I just bought the 2nd edition at a walmart last week
All comments are dated....
Hey it's Ash! She's so cool.
"Here's a lesson kids... DON'T go to the library!"
WOW! It is amazing the difference a hair cut makes. I've been subscribed to Ashley's channel for long time and she has never looked as good as she does here.
this is definitely one of my favorite games in my own collection. most recent time I played was out at a convention. it was magical
Man my mates are playing this this weekend! Has anyone ever gotten an omen card and then rolled a zero on all 6 dice and triggered a haunt?
Board Game Sanctuary yup
I picked this up last year for 40$ because I'd played the Avalon Hill release a while back. Imagine my surprise to see the new price tag!
I just found it on amazon for $40. I'm glad I got my copy when I did, but the fact that it's price has gone up the way it has is insanity.
MaereJaneMan The game company is now the traitor!
Second edition just came out this August, it's about $50 at my friendly local game store.
Good to hear they've released a new printing of it!
On the third turn of a game, my dad rolled 6 zeros on a haunt roll. My mom hadn’t even took a turn.
But hey, at least I killed em all.
Wil, you are awesome. Thank you for playing this. I love this game.
Man, I'm loving this kind of videos! The way it's edited, how it's presented, the content, the funny notes... I'm new to this kind of shit, but digging it so far, didn't knew this existed!
Never played this game with adequate table space.
I found tv trays next to everyone for their items/character stuff helps a bit. Still have to shuffle the room tiles a lot, lol.
Where did they get the movement markers for their stats? So they don't fall off all the time
+Steven Taylor OMG agreed, the one's that came with my game, are absolute shit. We use the phone app's or paper.
+Steven Taylor I bought a first edition of this game ages ago and quality of the game was MUCH better. My brother bought a second edition and the quality was incredibly cheap.
10:53 "Your sanity's crazy!"
I remember watching this episode back in day and LOVING it, but I couldn't remember why.
It's Ashly. She's ADORABLE.
Had so much fun watching this playthrough of a beloved game. Thank you! Going to watch Part 2 now :)
Did Ashley (and everyone else) forget about the girl/companion she gained? Because I don't think she ever comes up again.
Definitely recommending this game to some of my friends. It's like D&D and Clue combined
The first pulled card is an Omen. I assume that's...not a good sign.
+Geoff B First two cards pulled are Omens. I predict the third Omen card is Sam Neill.
+Geoff B
You are victory
Omg, Chloe!
+Brandon Harrelson Hell'a surprise eh?
+Max Caulfield You must rewind again to save her from the demon lord. D:
Brandon Harrelson also tiny Tina from borderlands
I love Wil's reaction when he realizes that he's the traitor! XD
9:20 christ almighty I was not prepared for the surprise racism
This was a really awesome game. I wouldn't mind if you revisited it for a Halloween episode.
you got tiny tina
"Sup sucka?"
"runnin runnin runnin runnin runnin over here run run run run"
She is really cute.
Demian Haki Ikr adorable.
+Tyler Amacker Youngwet
+Tyler Amacker hella adorable
Bought IIRC the second edition and 5 minute dungeon for $1.99 each today at goodwill. Only missing the 5 min manual so nbd and score.
This is my favorite episode. I can't wait to give this game a try myself. It looks like so much fun. Thanks, Wil, for introducing me to all these great games.
I got this game because of how fun it looked but I haven’t played it yet as I haven’t played in-person board games with bigger groups in a long while (play a lot on BGA), but gotta pull this one out. :)
They should invite Filthy Frank
All you hear from the crypt "BREADSTICKS ALL DAY NIGGA YOU JUST GOT PRANK'D"
Should get a Nickelodeon girl on with him

That intro. 100/10.
A traitor who lures us into the house to do horrible things to us like make us watch ghost rider
This game+group of players and this episode are all GREAT.
omg michael swaim. i didnt know he was into stuff like this....what a legend
Damn this game looks ace, shame you can't get it anywhere anymore :(
You actually can get the original version in Germany. only the original version since there is no translation. But you could theoretically order it from a german shop..
Interesting, I'll look into it
Dinobot Swoop Actually, I can find it at my local comic shop.
I'm in the UK and I'm struggling to get it anywhere
crazy how popular the game got after the wheaton effect.
amazon and ebay are selling this game for ridicoulous prices, up to $200.
waiting till the company prints more copies and price to go down.
you guys gotta do this game again... xD
This is seriously the best game EVER. If you haven't played it. DO IT. (I was going to say buy it, but after you play it you'll jump to that conclusion yourself)
If only I could have the clip of Wil saying "Murder murder murder!" -- it has so many applications.
Our group has played this game countless times and it's always a blast. Also it's really easy to teach to new players. However, I feel the need to point out two errors in the video. 1) all characters start outside the front door, not in the main entrance, and 2) going up the stairs to the upper level only counts as 1 speed, so the very first turn Madame Z would have been able to explore a room once reaching the upper landing. Of course if everyone had started outside and not in the main entrance, she would have then ended on the upper landing, like she did. Sorry, my nerd OCD kicked in.

I have legit never been more excited for a game on Table Top since Ryan Higa was on this!
I watched this just to admire ash :P
Swaim and Ashly?! Boy, it is a small world
you got Cassie Cage omg. i have a crush on her
Neat to see Swaim in something other than Cracked... no clue why that guy isn't a huge star, very talented.
I love the guests on this show... Wish I could play games with these people!
