To the people who correctly spotted that Steve messed up a calculation deliberately to win the game and therefor cheated, let me quote this from the rulebook: "It's not cheating unless you get caught:" Steve didn't cheat because he wasn't caught cheating. That's actually part of the rules.
Could you please tell me exactly where does officially this says? I'm sorry for asking you, but I am unable to find that rule ANYWHERE (not even on the official page). I am sincerely hoping you could and do tell me were I can find such rule, thank you :)
***** You know, I fucking raged at the time I asked that question xD, to think ACTUALLY someone is trying to search that rule, I really feel more relieved, I really thank you very much :)
gimubatulo Yeah my uncle had bought the game for his friends to play with him, and it had always been hilarious to have his kids come up and ask him about the cards he "dropped in his shoe." I have never played the game myself however, so I'm confused as well with you there. It seems like a fun game though :)
Cheating isn't in the rules because it is a contradiction. Cheating is doing something that is contrary to the rules so if an actual rule said you can cheat and you fed it into a Star Trek computer on an obscure alien planet the computer would explode. That line is just a joke, not a rule.
I'm very surprised nobody caught his absolute cheat at the end. Doppelganger can only be used when you fight alone, with Felicia there he technically couldn't use it. but if you aren't cheating, you aren't trying.
Over 11 years ago, and.............this is still my favourite clip of playing Munchkin! I never get tired of watching it! Combination of an excellent game and awesome fun people playing it. Final backside licking comment, thank you so much for designing this brilliant game Steve Jackson.😉👑
2012: "She's playing the hot girl in leather armor to make us think she's cute!" My gaydar: *beep boop beep boop* 2018: Surprise! She was doing it because she thought the redhead in the leather armor was cute. My gaydar: "Yup"
This is not in the rule book anywhere... however this one is " Only one player can help you, adding his combat strength to yours." I have looked at many of the rule books in many different versions, and I have never seen the "cheating is ok" rule in the deluxe version of the game, it was taken out sometime in 2010 because people thought it was unfair... As I watch through these tabletops I am reminded of how dumb steve jackson is, he brought us a great game but the he doesn't even know how to play the updated version correctly. Now the second issue is basically just with everyone having a brain fart when he was counting his winning battle total, they played the potions all wrong... so if you start where he is at 30 and the monster is at 18, sandeep plays a +5 making the monster 23, then felicia backstabs taking Steve down to "28", then she plays a +5 potion making the monster 28..., but they continue on anyway and he wins because he is "one level ahead" sure he might have had a card to add to the number but i'm guessing since he didn't play it to be that much more ahead, he didn't have one and the game would have continued.... the math is there, either way you do it, they are tied
I just love imagining if people roleplayed Munchkin. Felicia: Alright, thanks to the help of Sandeep we can definitely win this battle. Steve: ... oh shit, the duck just pulled out a bunch of balloons. RUUUUNNNN!
I love this game. My sister got it for her birthday a couple years ago and since then we've gotten a couple of the versions other than the original and it's a lot of fun to play with a group of people. Dad pretty much always wins though. What usually happens is someone is about to win and everyone else uses up all their cards trying to keep them from winning and then has no cards to prevent the next person who is level 9 (since usually 2 people end up lvl 9 at the same time when we play) from winning.
Oohh that reminded me of that one Halloween in Bochum, Germany, a few years ago! We were visiting a good friend and instead of having the creepiest night ever as we planned, we ended up playing Munchkin all night in our costumes. My friend was an elf bard and actually sang everything he said, my other friend was a thief and whispered all the time because we wanted to stay 'in character'. And I, the usually calmest with the most quiet voice of all, of *course* was a troll and had to growl everything I wanted to say. It was so hilarious. I couldn't have asked for more! I now feel the urgent need to get a hold of this game and find someone to play with me. Sometimes I don't realise what great times I've already had in life... Thank you SO much for reminding me!
Just rewatched this episode after 4 years and it just made me wanna play a round of munchkin again, and i will tomorrow. This Episode made me play the game in the first place. Thx for this awsome show mr. Will wheaton.
I watched this when I was just becoming a freshman in high school. I became obsessed with munchkin because of this video. I met Wil and Felicia at a con that same year as an awkward 15 year old. I saw this video in my recommended and was instantly brought back. I graduated college and am now working full time in the middle of a global pandemic. I haven't been able to see any of my friends and just want to play a board game without thinking about the stresses of life. I missed the feelings and memories that this video gave me for the short time it played. I hope Wil is able to reboot this show in the future.
Aww poor Sandeep! I just had my first Munchkin play and I was in the same boat--I kept drawing curses. There should be some sort of rule mod that if you collect x number of curse cards you can redeem them for something.
Ran a game of Car Wars for Steve Jackson at Origins 82. Got his, and Aaron Alston's autographs on the complete pocket set of rules for Car Wars too. Ahh the memories!
This is one of my favorite episodes of Table Top. Very funny and warm and fun. Plus, I desperately want to play a game with Felicia Day. And I now want to go out and buy Munchkin.
Steve played the "kill the hireling" card at 23:06 but didn't read the rules. There were no hirelings in play. YOU MADE THE GAME! >.< WHY YOU BREAK? But showcasing a game like this is great for people who haven't heard about it. A former flat mate introduced this to me and i got the axe cop set straight away!
I pride myself in having won a round with 6 or so friends, who all ganged up on me and threw in monster after monster and bonuses for them and I had such an awesome hand, I still won and with that the whole game 😆 one of my finer moments
Will: Now I need the trophy back, because it's a low budget show. But here's the tape with your name on it. Steve: I'm speechless. Will: As you should be. Lmao!😂😂😂
I really wish they'd play another game of Munchkin on Tabletop but with one of the different decks that enhances the game. Like the Superhero or Zombies one.
I clicked this video expecting a ragtag bunch of dudes in a basement with a phone camera. Instead I got Wheaton in the first seconds of the video. I am impressed

even if Felicia helped in that final turn she wouldn't have won because you can only reach level 10 through gaining a monster level and i am assuming assist levels are not monster beating levels.
Actually, there are three ways to reach level 10. Beat a monster, be an Elf and assist to level 10, or be a cleric and receive the card "Divine Intervention", which can give you the winning level
Chase Wilson Oh man!! So she would have been cheated by Steve?? That's so meeeaaann! :D Nothing less expected from the inventor himself :D But he won anyway ^^
+Kaleb Levermore-Rich I can't argue this. I own pathfinder munchkin, and that one specifically says you can only hit level 10 via monster kill, but I don't know about the base game
Waaay to different games, this is more of a casual "take that" game, while "betrayal" is more of a narrative oriented coop with a traitor. Both are great though. Munchkin might be the easiest to get non gamers playing though.
I have both and more people seem to love Munchkin in my experience. One off the things I love so much about Munchkin is that is has a lot and I do mean a lot of expansions in all shapes and sizes, so you can make it your own and make every game a different experience. Munchkin is way more off a humorous game, Betrayal (absolutely awesome in its own right btw) is in comparison more serious and gloomy (which is an other great game "Gloom")
depends I bought both after watching both and unfortunately Betrayal is very very veeeery heavy on dice rolls, like every freaking action needs a dice roll, if you love it thats great but me and my friends were very much let down because of it. Had much more fun with munchkin andit's expansions
- You guys forgot about the rule for the hand size limit. - Steve didn't get the bonus treasure cards when using the Tube. - Steve and Felicia can't flee from the Floating Nose. - Steve needs to discard a Hireling to use the "Kill a Hireling" Level Up card. - The winning play (against the LameGoblin/Amazon) was really wrong since 30 - 5 = 25, not 26. It would be a tie and he wouldn't have win. I was actually planning on using this gameplay to learn the rules, but I guess I know more than the man who created the game. How is that possible?
Steve used their lack of attention to his advantage. If you read the rules, in true Munchkin sardonic parody fashion, it supports you doing whatever you can get away with! Agreed about the other points, however bear in mind this has been edited down a fair bit. They may have cut the part with the discard to flee from the Floating Nose. Hit up these links for info on the game's rules: forums.sjgames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=78 boardgamegeek.com/forum/4635/munchkin/rules
Cereal It doesn't matter how much she got, The Floating Nose says that you just can't run, but you can discard a card worth 200 gold (which she didn't). In this case, you don't need to roll anything to escape. I have the deluxe edition too, but the rules are so terrible to understand. What Eòghann Lamond said is true, it's possible to take advantage from other players, but i think it's not good for players like me, who wants to watch in order to learn how to play.
Fair point. But TableTop exists to *showcase* games, not to play them directly by the rules. This becomes more obvious in some of the games towards the end of season two, when Wil straight-up says they're playing modified versions of the games. Being an avid Munchkin fan myself for a decade, even if this game was played a bit askew, it remains one of my favourite TableTop episodes.
my wife and I won a munchkin tournament at south carolina comic-con last weekend! SO MUCH FUN! Even if you have no experience with rpg's, like my wife, it's a very easy game to pick up and play! Love this game!
Wow, running from a floating nose, Killing the hireling when there is no hireling... Steve cheats a lot in this game. (Of course, that is the spirit of munchkin.)
Steve Jackson, coool!!! Big fan from Brasil. I loved reading the RPG books when I was a teenager back in the early 90’s. It was awesome. Thank you for everything. Edit: Funny thing I made a research and I got you mistaken with the British Steve Jackson that had the gamebooks haha. It doesn’t matter because i had GURPS too and It was a fancy edition I also loved playing. Turns out I always thought Steve Jackson was one person. Thanks both then.
They were not very good at the game. After Felcia day ran away from the floating nose and the chicken, Steve could have sacrificed a small item to make the floating nose go away, winning the chicken's treasure (Or before asking for help, but not as fun)
The creator ( I don't know his name well) went up two levels with the whine at the gm and the kill the heirling. The problem is that the only way to use the card kill the heirling is to kill the heirling which did not happen. Was this cheating or something else?
I know Steve created the game but sweet jeez is he annoying. I'm grateful to him but I hate people in nerd culture that speak the way he speaks. It's an air of superiority with an inferiority complex. Does that make sense? Oh and he's a cheater. Considering he created it, you think he'd know about the Kill the Hireling restriction.
"Oh god, I fell asleep while you were talking." Sandeep has the best comebacks!
I fell asleep watching this whole dang video.
Sandeep may not be the Biggest Munchkin, but he is The Burninator.
"Why are you doing that? Why are you giving her the game? I will slash your tires."
Yeah, but he had the worse luck; I feel bad for him
I think this was the only great comedic line in the whole video😂
"A cheap shot is still a shot" is now my life motto.
Closely followed by "You have to help people. And then you stab!"
I won the game - and the nose is supposed to be inescapeable; the card says you CANNOT run away. THAT was cheap.
Atlas Horne Cheating is literally in covered in the rule book. Lol. Love this game.
The energy of that man is great
SAME THO
To the people who correctly spotted that Steve messed up a calculation deliberately to win the game and therefor cheated, let me quote this from the rulebook:

It certainly was in the rules of the original game. I think it was mentioned in the discarding cards section.

Wow, I miss Table-Top so much!

Me too! Would be awesome if he could do another season, especially since there has been some cool new games. This episode is still my Fav.
Same tabletop was great :) was looking forward for each episode. Cant believe how fast the time has passed

This remains one of the best episodes of TableTop.
I don't know why I find it so entertaining watching a group of four people play board games but I do.
Inklan Utterfield and I wish there were more videos on UA-cam of people doing this
Me too. I could watch these guys play RPG or board games for hours on end.
My friends just introduced my wife and I to this game. LOVE IT! We lost it when my friend misread the "Harpies" card as "Herpes". LOL
Felicia: "People may not target me because I'm cute"
SHIT! SHE'S ONTO US!
Felicia you are totally cute.
I fall in love in Felicia Day long time ago - she is beautiful, cute and play board games. What more can you expect?

2018: Surprise! She was doing it because she thought the redhead in the leather armor was cute.
My gaydar: "Yup"
for the people pointing out the mistakes on the rules, rule 1 of munchkin, cheating is allowed if you dont get caught
Is this true?
it absolutely is, half the fun of the game is cheating by using stuff you shouldt be able to use but creating confusion so no one realizes it
my friend steals cards when we play

It's possible that it's a house rule.
I want them to do more munchkin, it's such a good game :)
They should do Munchkin Quest, the board game version that has new mechanics, or add the dungeons expansion to munchkin and try for Epic lvl.
Rhin Forti Yeah :) I'd watch it :D
Rhin Forti
I agree. Geek & Sundry should definitely do a follow-up with Munchkin Quest in season 3 :D
I would definitely watch!
That is amazing. I cannot believe Steve Jackson himself came on Tabletop to play Munchkin!

I think steve forgot to "steal" the treasure when running from the monsters since he had that item that allowed him to do that
Yes, he sure did.
I noticed this as well only because he was bragging about his card then did not use it to his max potential...
“Day 42: Level 2 is... starting to eat at my soul.” Love that moment, but poor fella.

This is one of my favorite episodes of Table Top. Very funny and warm and fun. Plus, I desperately want to play a game with Felicia Day. And I now want to go out and buy Munchkin.

guys, in munchkin, cheating is legitimate unless caught
So it trains you for government work, then.
unless you draw the cheat card.
yep, when you have that, you can cheat openly.
Donavon Ho It actually isn't. There was a joke about it in the early versions on the rule book. It was later removed because people took it seriously.
bromixsr Or Wall Street actually no, even if you're caught you get at most a slap on the hands and basically keep all the benefits

+Kaleb Levermore-Rich I can't argue this. I own pathfinder munchkin, and that one specifically says you can only hit level 10 via monster kill, but I don't know about the base game
I love Munchkin. And this was a great episode.
Felicia Day, you are incredibly cute, as if you didn't know. By the way, the werewolf movie on Syfy, surprisingly good for that network.
Should I buy this or betrayal at house on the hill????
The God I think it depends if you want a game where you mostly backstab each other (munchkin) or mostly help one another (betrayal)
depends I bought both after watching both and unfortunately Betrayal is very very veeeery heavy on dice rolls, like every freaking action needs a dice roll, if you love it thats great but me and my friends were very much let down because of it.
Had much more fun with munchkin andit's expansions
The God Get both!!!
Hit up these links for info on the game's rules:

Felicia called a 4 a 5 and then was able to run away from The Floating Nose
@@TheBigStinko Felica's class was elf giving a +1 to runaway
my wife and I won a munchkin tournament at south carolina comic-con last weekend! SO MUCH FUN! Even if you have no experience with rpg's, like my wife, it's a very easy game to pick up and play! Love this game!
Felicia is so cute!
Wow, running from a floating nose, Killing the hireling when there is no hireling... Steve cheats a lot in this game.
(Of course, that is the spirit of munchkin.)
15:17 "Trying to distract you, to make you visualize her in leather armor."
You know, I think it worked.
Thanks both then.
why didn't felicia backstab steve for 2 lvls at the end?
She did? 25:20
They were not very good at the game. After Felcia day ran away from the floating nose and the chicken, Steve could have sacrificed a small item to make the floating nose go away, winning the chicken's treasure (Or before asking for help, but not as fun)
John Kerpan Could be a "sparrow in hand" scenario, basically, he felt he had good small items.
She did. Backstabbing brought him down 2 levels; she doesn't increase.
ncamburako
No, you can only backstab a player, not any copies or "fake" versions of it.
Steve should do some serious voice acting.
I agree.
Listen to Ready Player One on audiobook ;)
I would LOVE to see the Big Bang Theory cast on this show! XD
I have been playing Steve Jackson Games my whole life. ❤
The creator ( I don't know his name well) went up two levels with the whine at the gm and the kill the heirling. The problem is that the only way to use the card kill the heirling is to kill the heirling which did not happen. Was this cheating or something else?
+Juan AndOnly Yes, he clearly cheated.
+Juan AndOnly he also said that the +5 potion was a +4, so he could win the last fight
+Juan AndOnly Its not cheating if no one else notices.......
+Greg Fessenden it's in the rulebook: you can cheat if nobody notice it!:D
+jorg van loon He also deducted the "+4" from his own score instead of adding it to the monster too. Was that to distract?

I heard this is a good game for me and my wife to play. I do hate her now...
Steve Jackson's accent has gone all american :O
I love playing that game!
James Nash The author of Fighting Fantasy is the OTHER Steve Jackson :)
Thanks. Sorry about that.
I like the confidence that Steve has in general.
I know Steve created the game but sweet jeez is he annoying. I'm grateful to him but I hate people in nerd culture that speak the way he speaks. It's an air of superiority with an inferiority complex. Does that make sense?
Oh and he's a cheater. Considering he created it, you think he'd know about the Kill the Hireling restriction.
well one of the rules is cheating is allowed unless you are caught so...yeah
Boogeypop80 yeah I feel you bro.
