@@LeesPizza The original game was made by Arcane Wonders (who I used to work for but don't anymore). They don't make the game as the rights are owned by CMON, and they have a current version on the market with new artwork. I believe the original is no longer made at all, so you'd have to try eBay or something like that. It's a great game though, and one I still love!

    1. ALWAYS look the sheriff in the eyes when proclaiming what you have in your bag.
    2. Bribing can be done at any time and done for ANY reason, including to have the sheriff open someone else's bag.
    3. The sheriff doesn't need to say what he'll do with the bag and then move on to the next person. He can do anything in whatever order while merchants try to convince him with truth or with bribes. He he makes his decision her person, he'll give the bag back, or snap the bag open.
    4. Once the bag SNAPS open, all bribes and offers end. Period.
Keep these in mind when playing Sheriff of Nottingham. It's way more fun.

Also, with a total search limit of 1 min per player. For instance, if there are four other players, you get four minutes to search all their bags, spending as much time on each player as you want. Puts pressure on the sheriff, and helps avoid overlong negotiations.

I hate to be "that guy", but this is the worst played episode of TableTop to date (admittedly, I can only speak for games I know). Not only did they make the mistakes you pointed out, but at 9:45 they say you redraw at the end of turn and cards can be drawn from the discard piles. They can't be. Redraw must be done from the center stack to keep new cards getting cycled in to play. The Market Phase is where you discard cards and redraw, either from the discards or the center stack, and happens at the start of turn. They clearly didn't do this based on the discard piles at the end of the game.
Also, they were terrible with brides, though that could be down to lack of experience.
Finally, the time limit Sam mentions definitely adds to the excitement and fast pace of the game, but acceptable to leave out for the sake of filming, especially as it would have been edited out anyway. It still should have been mentioned though.
Look, I know Tabletop is entertainment. I've spotted mistakes in a few previous episodes, but they never bothered me before. Heck, I'm sure there was one episode the taught me that I was playing the game wrong, so I get it. Mistakes and rules errors happen. But the sheer number and severity of the ones in this episode are astonishing. They are doing the producers of the game, and the fans who buy the game based on this video a huge disservice by presenting a false gameplay video.
It's unprofessional when it's at the level seen in this episode.

    • @trustycrunch
      @trustycrunch 9 років тому +16

Denis Ryan "Redraw must be done from the center stack to keep new cards getting cycled in to play." It make sense but you can't be mad at Table Top since it is not clear in the rulebook. "All players draw cards until they again have six cards in hand."
Secondly, you are right that briding comes with experience. With my group at some point I realized that some person didn't realize that if a contraband worth 7 points for the player with a penalty of 4 if confiscated than it is better for the sheriff to accept the bride of 6 since as a sheriff you do 6 instead of 4 coins and the player only score 1. This concept is not easy to grasp for new comers since a soon as you bride they think it is because you have illegal goods (which is typically true) so therefor they should confiscated !
Thirdly, the timer is a personal choice. You don't HAVE to.
At the end of the day, for me the game is more about the fun you have impersonate The sheriff and The marchants and all the stories you come with and I think TableTop did a good job showing what a game could looks like. The timer increase pace but cut the opportunities for complicated scenario (which coulb be hilarious) so at this point if your focus is about fast pace game I understand your point but it is perfectly legitimate to play the game focusing on role playing and taking more time (specifically when you are actors...)

Holy rules lawyer Batman. You know what? More important than the rules, they captured the spirit. I bought the game tonight. I played with three of my drunk friends. We had a blast. And I bought it because of this video. You may want to call this unprofessional if they weren't perfect, but the interplay represented in this video was phenomenal.
Keep rockin' Tabletop. And dude, get the HELL over yourself.

This has to be one of my favorite episodes of TableTop. Not because of the game (which is a great game), but because of how much fun they had playing it. It's the first time that everyone at the table just got into the spirit of the game and went with it. And that's what gaming should be. Having fun and even if it's just for a little bit, forgetting about any troubles you have and enjoying the moment.

Ah, see, he forgot to take into account that it was the end of summer. And as every hard working inhabitant of Nottingham knows, autumn is the prime season for apple harvesting. It seems like the Sherrif should know this too, but perhaps his mind was on other matters. Perhaps he showed a bit too much zeal to follow the king's laws and forgot to trust his citizens, as well as overlooking the time of year, which clearly was autumn. Prime apple picking season.

James Maguire ah, Aurellis in the comments below realized that the reason for some of the errors is in the contraband count on the chart, where it mixes up 35 and 6 for Ashley and Will, which makes sense because will snuck a lot and ashley only got some apples through. this does not account for the error totally, though, but even with that error, ashley won either way, so its no matter

During the final scoring, Wil's and Ashley's Contraband scores were switched by accident, meaning Wil made 35 while Ashley only made 6. That actually gives them their respective totals of 140 and 171.
    30+36+6+39 does not equal 140, but 111.
45+30+35+90 does not equal 171, but 200. Switching their contraband scores give them the correct total.

Out of the gameplay videos I've watched, this one was pretty boring, and I'm glad I didn't watch it first, because I wouldn't have wanted to buy it at all. As for an average game it's #5 under top party games on BoardGameGeek and is rated 7.7 which is actually really high. It may not be a super heavy game with complex rules, but that doesn't mean it's average. I enjoyed the Let's Play episode by Board With Life much more.

Did Ashley declare 4 bread and have 5 cards in her bag? If she did, her win comes with an asterisk because you have to declare the same number of a good as the number of cards in the bag. You can't declare one number, and play a different number.
