    The best thing about these renovation projects is that they retain so much of the original architecture and blend it seamlessly with the new, so future generations will still be able to look upon these buildings and see how they originally appeared without sacrificing the utility and design of modern architecture.

    I walked around the area about 7 years ago maybe. It was really quiet, still under construction, and in my view a bit lifeless.
    But I went back there a month or so ago and it's been completely transformed. A really awesome place to walk around.

    I lived in England in the early-mid 1980's, wouldn't give king's Cross more time than it took to get out of the Station. Been back a few times but never back to the area. Coming over in August for a month, ten days in London and i think I will give King's Cross a Go! Great video as always!

    • @robtyman4281
      @robtyman4281 3 роки тому +2

      You should visit the district. The King's Cross area had changed beyond all recognition from the dingy, seedy area it was in the 80's....and still was until the early 00's. That's when it began to change, quite slowly at first but since 2010 the pace of change has really accelerated. So when you're next in London, visit the area - you won't be disappointed, but will be shocked at how much it's changed.

      It's really hard to get across just how unpleasant the area was, particularly as an arrival point into London from a large section of the north. It was terrible. Drunks, druggies, tired badly maintained buildings. You just didn't linger, you got out as soon as possible.

      London is one of the very few lucky places to be able to invest in something, and know it will be used. You don’t have major gangs that will take over an area, other areas won’t be abandoned just to experience the new area etc... and as a result, London is easily one of the most beautiful and popular cities in the world. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for places like Dubai, Doha, and even places like New York and Paris. When new areas are built they’re usually over the top, not for locals, and/or the old areas are abandoned or taken over by vile street gangs, and Dubai is one of the most prominent examples of this... but London is thriving, better than ever.

      lunatics to have thought of knocking down this architectural heritage. If I recall rightly, the sprawling Victoria Terminus in Bombay ( now Mumbai ) , built c. early 1880s, was modelled on St Pancras, with some added features to give a slight Indian twist to this landmark.

The last major incident was 1941/42 when large parts of central London were destroyed by German bombing. This was the price paid by the British for opposing Nazi Germany. Shame that many countries in Europe just surrendered instead. As for the French they collaborated as well to their eternal shame. Central Paris is preserved for a reason. The 19th Century classical revival inspired by the boulevards of Baron Hausmann look impressive, but they are also covered in guilt and shame. I prefer London any day with all its problems. They are starting to build some tall skyscrapers but very few for a city and its population and size, does anyone have any feedback on this? I just would’ve assumed that by now there will be a lot more tall if not super tall skyscraper is being built to accommodate A city where urban sprawl is at its maximum, and can sprawl no further. If you can’t go out there’s only one other way to go, and that’s up. I’m curious to see how Landon is going to look in 100 years time, and I’m willing to bet it will be unrecognizable with dozens if not hundreds of new super tall skyscrapers for both business and residential. What do you think?

      At the moment the skyscrapers are used for business. But in places such as nine elms, wood wharf and Greenwich peninsula they are building taller residential buildings.

    Much of this is Great. I live in Kx, near the stations. Much of this is true, and to be celebrated. However, you don't mention the more problematic aspects: gentrification means shops and housing are too highly priced for many people. Public space has also been lost. A smallish number of people have done very well out of all this - but many have not. So it's a mixed picture.
