When I was younger: tall buildings were everything to me. But it wasn’t just the height. It was the Incredible planning and engineering of the structure itself that drew me in before the beauty and functionality captivated me. And after all these years I still feel the same about these buildings. Watching your videos; I feel we share the exact appreciation of and spirit Fred. As always, excellent job!

Europe has already developed and many of European Cities already more than 500 and some even 1000+ years compared to many Cities in Asia, Cities like KL just been established as tin mining towns in the end of 19 century and just rapidly developed in the 1990s. So many of these new cities in Asia have the luxury to build anything they want and what is the problem with you?

Fell in love with Kuala lumpur a few years back. Such a nice pleasant surprise, the sky line is stunning! Especially with a infinity pool view . Always find high rise living to be wild. Also very much a walkable city with vast public transport...love it
@@baharm65yup agreed on the "walkable" part. The transit has been steadily improving, and now they are wip making a new circle line to connect all the transit lines. Very extensive metro system. But unless you live and work close by to a station, you're out of luck. last mile connectivity is quite bad, and with the awkward placement of some stations (bad location in the middle of highways/nowhere for example), sometimes you feel like the planners were not thinking of convenience for passengers but rather "wheres the easiest and cheapest place to plop down this station, I need to get this project done. the passengers will figure out a way to get here thats their problem lah"
Excellent presentation and analysis. We are in the midst of moving to Malaysia via MM2H and we have travelled to many others countries on your list. We just finished our first week in Penang and my wife and 95 year-old mother-in-law were blown away with Malaysia and its people. I worked in Singapore and Malaysia over 30 years ago so the prevalence of English, value for your money and kindness of the Malaysians was not a complete surprise and I fell in love with the country all over again.

I'm not trying to compare cities or say which one is better. Every city has its own pros and cons. Since this video is about skyscrapers in KL, I'm just talking about those.
I've followed the construction of PNB 118 for the past few years and it's made me fall in love with Kuala Lumpur, with a hope to visit it someday. To me it isn't just a symbol of what Malaysia can achieve, but what humankind can achieve. It is I think the most beautiful super tall building ever made. Thank-you so much for taking us inside!
went there march of this year, was amazed at how different it is to burj khalifa, i primarily went to KL for it, definitely didn't disappoint, i would absolutely recommend people coming to KL and seeing this beast.
@@AL-lh2htWell looking from the outside, I could probably say that the difference is this one won't have a third of its floors unoccupied. i.e it isn't just a nice-looking building, but also a functional one
@@khairunna100 He's simply referring to the spire and "vanity height" of the uppermost part of the tower. Keep in mind this tower does it too, by quite a margin nonetheless. You can go up the spire here (I'm not 100% how far up the observation stairwell is) but one could also argue this tower's roof is sub-500 meters and tower ends at 680 so that's almost 27% unoccupied as well). It's nice to appreciate these towers regardless of the classification, though!
As an Australian (like your elevator bloke) KL is much closer to home than either Shanghai or Dubai, and in a Commonwealth country too which tends to give us a language in common, so I'm jazzed at the idea of visiting my megatall there. The setting too is rather pretty, surrounded by jungle-covered hills, and while I'd seen that back in 2011 from the KL Tower which you showed, the view should be all the more godlike from up there!

I think Merdeka 118 is a stunning piece of architecture and to see it in such detail and hear some of the story and design behind it really makes this so good and well worth your trip!
I'm no fan of skyscrapers but I have great admiration for the construction workers who work at those ridiculous heights. You wouldn't get me up there for love nor money.
I used to live only 100 meters away from the site of this building growing up 50 years ago. The road in front was named after James Birch, a British governor. He was assasinated by a local called Maharajalela. Today, that road is named Jalan Maharajalela.
as much as I love space elevators, we simply dont have the physics to build it. Actually we have the physics, and the material, but fabricating the materials needed would cost more than the entire world country profits in a decade. not to mention the construction and the maintenance

Had the chance to visit Kuala Lumpur around 3 months ago, and my hotel's view was the Petronas towers, but seeing the Merdeka 118 even from afar took my breath away, because it was the tallest thing I've ever seen in my life... Incredible...
Seeing the building in construction during night with the tower cranes lit up above the clouds is something else. Also the Merdeka 118 can be seen from about 40km away

Recently visited KL driving in from airport I saw Merdeka towering above the entire city half hidden by clouds, it was a glorious scene to say the least, the architecture is incredible and eye pleasing. It really stands out as a pride of the Malaysian nation. Once completed this tower will bring in many tourists I always found burj Khalifa an ugly tower and sore to look at, boring grey colors and trying too hard to be flashy, so it’s nice to see a tall tower that actually looks nice
I can't wait for Merdeka 118 to open. Holding back on my family trip to Malaysia because of it. Well, that and the news I read Batu Caves is getting an escalator... which would be helpful for my parents.

As a Malaysian, i'm tremendously proud to have this new iconic skyscraper. It resembles us Malaysians that aims to reach a level higher than ever before, in economy, technology, city developments, education and healthcare. We are competing with our own self everyday just to reach to a new heights. Fingers crossed towards a better Malaysia! Up your arse SG hahaha and Malaysia's nasi lemak is much better!

What a wonderful video. What an amazing Tower, PNB Merdeka 118, KL. If I'm not mistaken, the Petronas Twin Towers were the first in the world to use a double decker elevator system by the manufacturer, Otis.

Recently visited KL driving in from airport I saw Merdeka towering above the entire city half hidden by clouds, it was a glorious scene to say the least, the architecture is incredible and eye pleasing. It really stands out as a pride of the Malaysian nation. Once completed this tower will bring in many tourists
I always found burj Khalifa an ugly tower and sore to look at, boring grey colors and trying too hard to be flashy, so it’s nice to see a tall tower that actually looks nice
