I am driving the htx diesel auto , and can confirm this is the best engine-gearbox combo in the sub 4m segment.
Glad to hear about your experience. How long have you had it? Kms/years? And service? Would be super helpful.
@@motorinc I am using it since June 2022. Driven a mere 9000km till now.
Car gives poor mileage in the city(8-9kpl) , but out on the highway put it on cruise and it will return upto 20-21kpl.
Regarding service , i have done 3 services till now , and the experience has been almost niggle-free.
Have the same model.. Its the best variant/version for the amount of money you pay in the segment! Great car! No complaints and very quick and powerful on the highway yet easy and smooth in the city.. If you don't have more than 4 ppl at a give time to travel this car is the best in the 15 lakhs price range.
Hows mileage ....and handling...
@@anil12500 handling - 7/10.
Mileage- City ( 8-10kpl) Highway(18-20kpl)
I own a GTX+ AT Diesel. Had driven it for 38000 km in 14 months. Whenever I drive,my grin extends to my ears. I can say it's the best combination of Diesel engine and automatic gearbox in this segment .
Hullo SK! Thanks for letting us into your garage. Wish you awesome journeys!
This channel is the "Nothing" to the "Apple" and "Android" world of Automotive Journalism. That's it someone had to say it, The intro music, in the world of dark mode its pleasant to see white background, proper cinema angle works. Kudos to the team.
Thank you for sharing your time with us!
I agree with all your points. Fantastic video. The quality levels on the Sonet do make it feel premium - that's for sure. The touch and feel of materials is very nice. But its compromise in the back seat space might be a no go for some. The suspension is stiff and the steering feels vague at the center - something it shouldn't have borrowed from its sibling. The engine I feel is at par with other cars in the segment. The audio system is unbeatable on the Nexon though.
Hey IA! Agreed - the backseat is the big compromise. Suspension - it isn’t a Black/White issue. That would have been simpler. Good to hear from you!
Driving Sonet GTX since Feb this year. Can't agree more to the points made here... we'd test driven a few cars in the segment but none FELT the way Sonet did. Sure it has its flaws (the turbo lag for me a bit annoying), but in terms of the experience I think it remains unparalleled in the segment. Stiff ride yes, but turns are fun (with ESC on of course). An oft ignored feature are the front sensors - find it pretty useful to avoid unwanted scratches/dents in tight traffic situations or with rickshaws crawling around.
Thanks for the video and putting the feelings into words! Will be watching this a few times I'm sure!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us! And glad to get a poem in your garage. Wish you awesome travels!
I drive the sonet htx turbo dct. At slow speed, the turbo is quite noticeable, but once the turbo kicks in for those initial seconds it does give you the beast of the road feeling.
Yes, I too having HTX DCT from the last 10 months, i too feel that jerk in 1st nad 2nd gear after that there is no jerk or lag, if you put in Sports mode you won't feel that initial jerk.
Exactly! At low speeds you just have to be soft and smooth with it. But after that… 😁
I m driving htx imt. Except for the stiffer suspension felt in very bad roads, the car has been phenomenal. Its so refined n smooth. Also Kia service centers are the best in my locality.
Thanks for letting us know!
Is there a way to change or upgrade the suspension?
Love the way each video by Motorinc is based on the emotion a vehicle evokes rather than talking about its specs sheet.
Hey TB! Thanks so much for that!
The emotional purchase is an apt explanation for what you'll feel about this car...i recently bought the GT Line turbo petrol DCT variant. The initial lag with pickup is cumbersome in busy roads but as you said, we cant floor the pedal because then it becomes bit too much to control after that. Highway speeds are a breeze and it asks for more. I fell for the Bose speakers, the looks, the name Sonet and the boot space! 😊
Great review, honest with the negatives and appreciation without flattery! 👏👏👏
Hey MR! Thanks for sharing your take! Appreciate it. Thanks for letting us into your garage! ❤️
just booked the same car. din have any issue with the pick up in the test drive.. lets hope for the best.
Which car would be the logical option then?? CSUV/hatchback...same price range ??
Great video, I just got my sonet deliverd, for some reason it just feel so right. I feel the turbo lag on low but the look and feel I Love it! Cursing on highway feels so relaxed.
Noice! Wish you many super journeys Vignesh!
Thank You !!!!@@motorinc
just curious, the turbo lag being Mentioned is in automatic variance only or in the manual as well
@@paramshah25 You can only get the T-GDI engine option with IMT and DCT, not on manual. If you choose manual, it will likely be a linear performance over all since its a 1.2 NA petrol something very similar to Venue Kappa at least that is what I felt when I did the test drive. Hope this helps!
I bought this indulgence 2 weeks before. Quite happy with the choice. I wish I could have gone for 1.0 turbo rather than 1.2 HTK+...
I was having Grand i10 NIOS and both these are sharing same engine!
Here’s the trick - avoid being between 1500-2000rpm. And shift down rather than wait for the engine to pull at low revs - you’ll have to work - but there’s fun in it. 😁 Max out your indulgence!
I have the Gtline Turbo DCT and everything you spoke resonated with me. Every bit, down to the last detail. This is the first car i got with my salary and i love it with all my heart.
Congratulations Saurabh! And thanks a ton for sharing that with us! Have awesome times with your Sonet!
Please help us understand the mileage
Great review. I was about to buy the HTK+ model but they recommended newly launched HTK(O) instead and feature wise its almost on par, even offers additional feature - sunroof at around just 10.50!
My dad purchased diesel manual last year & he is pretty satisfied with both the car and the aftersales service
Good to know! Which city are you based in? And would your recommend the dealer?
@@motorinc its a small town called Jorhat, in Assam
Let me tell you one thing. Kia service is one of thr best out there. I had a major accident a few months back in my Sonet HTX iMT and the car was mangled from the left, but Kia guys fixed the car so well that you couldn't tell if the car had an accident! The car is really indulgent and it brings out the hooligan in you!

Just the best motoring content out there, absolutely love it
Hey Ishaan! Thanks so much!
Hi there, what would you suggest under 14-15 lakhs max streched budget with decent performance, mileage and reliability and boot space? Except tata.
The emotion you described is what I imagine for a large premium hatchback which didn't make it to our shores like the Golf or the Focus. Both duly missed.
But this video reminded me that we actually have them, just adapted a bit to our realities. Like the Sonet and its likes, even the dimensions match except the GC and height 😊
Thanks.
Hey SD! ❤️
It's also wider than most premium hatchbacks in fact it has same width like creta 1790 mm even though Creta is one segment above which is a plus point of the kia sonet ♥
Kia Sonet is a steal deal for someone who doesn’t really need space but still want that diesel torque..!!
Bcoz its the only sub4 metre car having a diesel AT 👌🏻 👌🏻
💪
I own the gtx diesel auto and it's awesome. It just makes you look forward to the next drive. Mileage is around the 10kmpl mark in city and 17-18 kmpl on highway.
Awrite! Thanks for sharing your garage with us! ❤️ Wish you awesome journeys!
Have GTX + DTC version and did 11,000 KM's in 3 months. Amazing engine and car with a great gearbox which is a let down only in the city but else where it is incredibly fast.
Own the HTX Diesel Auto and it's a very comfortable ride. Close to 10k kms driven. In cities you can sometimes feel the turbo lag and big potholes can feel like suspension crashed. Otherwise no complaints
Thanks so much for corroborating our findings! Wish you both super drives!
One of the Nicest ways to review the car and to explain about its pros and cons.
I really liked it. Thanks.
Thanks so much for that!
Great review! Again! I am seriously considering Sonet and I have two question, if you can answer would really help. 1) Should I wait for the facelift or just book the current one? 2) I know diesel is on the decline but out of the two engine options it looks better on paper in terms power. Which one would you suggest irrespective of the daily run kms.
wait for Facelift I am hoping Kia would pull this out like Seltos with additional features and uplifted looks
Great recommendation SM! Hey ADA - do wait - we hope for a bump up on the safety/comfort factor like they did with Seltos. Do let us know what you decide. Thanks!
hi. I just booked mine on 1st November.. the reason for Not waiting for the facelift is that it is going to launch post December so delivery will be in say February, Also they are selling it cheaper because of the facelift, my uncle bought the car for 16,25,000 whereas I booked it for 15,74,000 the GTX petrol DCT
@@paramshah25 Does it feel better than the Venue while driving?
Another brilliant video. Can you make a review for the i20 as well? (Not N Line)

Ths dct transmission is so much fun especially w the paddle shifters, makes you feel like an actual racing driver.
The suspension setup? I have no complaints!
Awesome! Good to know that! How’s the service been?
The convertible comparison is astonishingly relatable. I own a Mercedes E class convertible. And have booked the Sonet recently - I like the diesel auto. It replaces one diesel auto, the Ameo.

Love the content!
Hey IF! Thanks a lot for being here with us! ❤️
I’m having freestyle diesel.. so would you recommend when compared to Freestyle handling and performance with mileage. I understand both are different segments but i just cannot find a good replacement in handling and power along with earth shattering mileage i enjoy with Ford. Please advise will it be a good call for me.. i may go for test drive with your feedback.
Sonet diesel auto is nice and punchy
Same doubt.. when I got the Freestyle in 2018 my next upgrade plan was to have Ecosport.. but Ford left so now looking for a bigger car.. could be a sub 4m Compact SUV or a mid sized SUV..deciding on Freestyle was easy with what I want from the car..5 years since then now i am not sure what i can expect.. have driven KIcks Ciaz Swift in between...
Hey IV and MT! The diesel variant will be the one to go for in your case. However, the suspension won’t feel as well sorted as the FreeStyle - especially with the heavier engine. Hope that helps!
@@motorinc thank you so much..
@@motorinc Thanks.. this "sorted suspension" is one of the best thing in freestyle the way its planted and moves on highway and amazingly handles the city roads b-roads is just too good... now searching for a new car is looking more and more of a pain to choose.. with the top variants of sub 4mts crossing over with mid variants of 1 segment upper cars too much to choose from... and the test drives they give you the feel how the new car feels.. but how well it will survive indian roads & how comfortable ride quality will be it in long run that's a big question..
Happy with the purchase , manual diesel is my engine of choice mileage with power
🫡🙏🏾
Kia service centers are pretty good (so far, that's been my experience anyway). Diesel Auto is the best automatic in the sub 4 m segment HANDS DOWN. Took it on a statewide trip for shifting and it handled everything just fine with enough power at its disposal.
It is not a video but a poem for we Sonet owners 😊. This car is all about emotion and experience. Hard to ignore. This will be one of those cars like elite i20 whose design will still wow even after they launch its new generation
Hullo again! 👍🏽👍🏽
Great ,lovely, and passionately said...love sonet.
My wife has GTX+ D AT. I trade in plenty time with my car. The kick in pants feeling when you floor the A paddle is second to none. The aggressive AT gearbox helps to aggravate the thrill. Planning to get her remapped to stage 2. What's yor take on remapping?
Hullo! Wonder who chose the wife’s car? 😁 Remapping results can vary - depending on the map/mapper.
Mileage 10 to 12 in bumper to bumper traffic, and long ride highway 14 to 17, avg of 13 to 15.
Suspension too stiff but love to corner in that way, steering they would have worked out more as it won't give much confidence, if they worked in steering then it will be a fun to drive car, also they should give manual turbo instead of IMT, and DCT users hope they won't get any major issue as it will bear more expense, apart from that everything fit and finish, interior quality and audio, breaks, all looks good, and as you said while starting able to hear a big rumble sound and until it get settled then it won't sound much,
Hullo! The fuel efficiency is for which engine?
@@motorinc its for petrol
I want to buy HTX imt. Not sure if i should go with turbo petrol or diesel. Which one would be good for performance?
Depends on your need, petrol has more power but diesel has more acceleration due to torque
I think I could seriously listen to you explain the pros and cons of toasting a pop-tart. I honestly feel like you should be doing lectures too. Keep up the good work.
Hahaha 🙏🏾

Have been driving htx iMT for the past 4 months . So far so good. Had a doubt about the performance of clutchless gear transmission in the hills, but just yesterday did a trip from Itanagar to Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh and didn't face any issue other than fact that u need to press the race a little hard .. just little hard in hilly slope to keep the momentum in the same 3rd / 4th gear.
Thanks so much for sharing that! Massively helpful. That drive must have been beautiful!
Pleasure is all mine. And yes it was a beautiful driving experience.
given a budget of 11L what should be preferred for city use in manual, Nexon(pure) or Sonet(new facelift) or other options? I know its a very vague and subjective question but all i want to know is if you are an office driver commuting to work and need a petrol car with all features and comfort and quality, what will you choose?
Nexon is the best choice
@@nischalk1336 No ive booked the new sonet, nexon although looks good but it easily gets scratches, too many technical glitches found online, so tata still failing in reliability.
Don't go for the Nexon pure. I'd say go for the smart and spec the rest of the car aftermarket including alloys and 215 section tyres, good music system and infotainment
@@nischalk1336 na booking the new sonet, nexon is not great, too many complaints of glitches like the dashbard and the instrument cluster display not working or the back camera not working problems, tata has very bad reliability
@@aryamannreddy4848 Software glitches are there yes, but its limited to a very few defective models which have been rectified. Nexon rear camera quality is excellent. I'm considering the Sonet turbo petrol DCT facelift. What would be the approx. additional maintenance cost for DCT over IMT in 5-7 yrs and is the DCT reliable in the long run,? Thank you...

How’s the 1.2 L petrol manual is to drive? For enthusiasts?
That’s a no go. It’s a take-it-easy engine. Doesn’t like to be hurried.
I prefer the Venue to the Sonet, but Hyundai compromised its compact UV by not giving it that 6AT for the Diesel. Sonet is a bit too loud for my preference inside out. And also the build quality feels really bad. I will pay a bit more and get the Seltos if Kia is what floats my boat. Also, the facelifted Sonet is imminent and one would want to wait for that as well.
Do let us know what you decide. Would be super to hear the how/why. Thanks in advance.
Vfm variant??
The "view" series is my favourite.❤

Hi Bro,
I had done the test drive with Kia Sonet HTK+ MT 1.2L Petrol and Hyundai Venue 1.2L Petrol. I feel both of them gives same driving experience but looks sonet and Venue both are good in my perspective. But can i go with sonet? What's your suggestion please?
Hey KYBV! For sure they feel very similar to drive - because engine and gearbox are the same. You can pick the Venue for a more mature/sensible pick. It has slightly better balanced ride too. The Sonet is the more indulgent pick - cabin feel and features. So, what do you feel like?
@@motorinc : Thanks bro. I agree with your proposal.

Holy ….!! You are the perfect diesel buyer! That’s massive kilometres clocked!
Thnx Big Fan You Guys @@motorinc
I drive htx plus petrol imt , I must say this is bang for buck product, tall gear ratios make it absolute fun to drive, engine feels alive in 3rd gear and when in 4th gear you don’t even want to shift to the upper gears and when it comes to features it’s loaded with all the comforts that you crave for, they come very handy , they are at your disposal……the touch screen feels super fluid and the Bose speaker system adds to the premium quotient of this car….. the rear seat blinds are boon in the sunny weather…. Yes the build quality is a minus, it might not be as strong as TATA Nexon, but safety features might suffice till some extent. But overall a great package for those who are looking for premium, feature loaded product
Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone! Will be very helpful.
Hi Karthik, First off, I want to say you guys have such unique content from the rest of the auto channels in India. Keep up the great work.
Would love your suggestion for my new car itch. Planning to upgrade from a 2016 Honda Amaze to a sub-4-meter SUV (or whatever these are). Will keep Amaze as an office commuter (my wife also drives). The main priority for the new car is long-drive comfort (700+ km a day). Turbo petrol for sure as I love that midrange punch and I think makes life easier on the highway. Can't compromise too much on the boot as gotten spoiled by the Amaze's amazing boot space. Back row space while not a top priority, wouldn't want it to be too much of a compromise coming from the Amaze. Does Sonet fit the bill? If not Sonet, what would you suggest I look into?
Alternatively, also looking at VW Virtus GT. Love Sedans for sheer beauty, and drive characteristics, and the additional GC on Virtus is probably good enough for typical hill station bad roads (let me know). However, I'll have to wait another couple of years to afford it. Thank you for taking the time to read :)
Hey C! Thank you for counting on us. ❤️ I would say - the Sonet’s performance would be a good step up. But you are on the right track - wait it out. Make a big step up. Then you’ll be set for another 5-7 years.
Virtus GT - will be a good all rounder. But, do drive the Verna before you decide.
If you have a couple of years till you buy one - enjoy every new launch. 😋 Live vicariously for now. We can make a decision closer to the launch. Until then - would love to hear your take on the new vehicles that we discuss here.
But, if you want to take a call now - are you looking for a manual? Or an automatic? Also, how come the Elevate isn’t on your radar?
Do let us know! Would help!
Thank you for getting back! You do make a good point. I do like to hold my cars for 7-10 years. Waiting is prudent on one hand to make a substantial leap. It's just that the frequency of our road trips has increased and my Amaze having only one airbag is always on the back of my mind. Not the most stable or quiet at 90+ kmph either.
Verna - Just worried about the GC, to be honest. Would be worse than Amaze given the longer wheelbase I presume.
Elevate - Mixed feelings. I probably would go for it if I was coming from a much smaller car. I could be wrong but fear the 1.5 NA may not feel like a step up from the 1.2 NA given the added bulk. I don't necessarily need a bigger car. Elevate for all the extra size and price, is still a 4+1 seater and the boot is about the same as well. Hence the dilemma of a comfortable, exciting sub-4 meter or shooting all the way to 20L+ for something far more exciting and dare I say luxurious.
Automatic is not a must-have. I enjoy a Manual very much. I'll probably get a small EV in the not-so-near future to replace the Amaze and that should take care of growing city traffic.
PS: I do watch every video you guys upload and look forward to your coverage of the new launches :)
As great as the quality is can we just take a studio tour of the Elevate. Compare it with creta, seltos and yes the hyryder. Sonet needs a facelift even to be considered now with the Venue and Nexon with DCT.
Thanks for the suggestion! That would be awesome!
Need a similar video for Venue N Line please!
Aha! *Rubs hands gladly*
I mean, why not just get an i20 over this?
1. Much, much wider cabin. i20 is a proper 5 seater with ample shoulder/head room.
2. Better driving dynamics.
3. More features.
4. Imo, a better and 'bigger' feeling cabin.
Just my 2 cents. Great video tho!
Not going to argue against great logic! 👏🏽👏🏽
If only..
My cousin owns a Kia Sonet HTX Diesel,
1-Car feels quite compact from inside, should have been little more roomy, it seriously needs some design change
2- All dark cabin does make me claustrophobic, I feel better in Nissan Magnite than sonet
3- after a few years the all black interior looks dull
4- Diesel engine is quite peppy and a good High cruiser
5- Fuel efficiency of diesel is great
Hey AN! Good to have your view on the Sonet. How long have you guys been using it, for point 3 it would be great to have some perspective. Thanks!
Sonet diesel automatic is one of the best automatic cars out there. It makes driving so easy. Sales and service is good. No complaints for me. Normal traffic mileage is 13. Highway it can even go upto 21. In Bangalore traffic, it might even go to 5. ARAI should include a section for Bangalore traffic.

Absolutely! Gem of an engine and gearbox combo! It's totally punches above it's weight and can cruise at 150 on highways no problem.. Returning a fuel efficiency of above 13 to 14 kmpl and a tank range of over 600 kms!
Good to hear of your experiences! Drive safe!
Nice video. How about a video to show which one to buy between Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger?. Would be wonderful to watch comparisons between sister company models/badge engineered cars. Cheers 🙂
buy none, sonet wins.
Hey YK! Thanks for the suggestion. As for the siblings - please check out our Magnite video. Its verdict would help clear things up.
one day I will get my dream car for sure, but for now I just got few oversized loose fit elbow length basic tshirts… haha Thanks Kartikeya 😂😅
😆🤣🤣
given the rumours of a new facelift coming soon by end of year, should we wait??
Worth waiting! Should be early next year.

How about its Hyundai's counterpart?
A more sensible option. Not as evocative.
I'm looking for a used turbo petrol IMT. Would going to be my first turbo petrol
All the best! Would love to know how your garage shapes up! Let us know if we can help.
@@motorinc fronx vs sonet video worked.
Manual turbo petrol vs IMT turbo petrol would help
We had a problem when we bought this.. the keyless entry system wasn’t working..
It’s fixed we hope?
@@motorinc yes it’s fixed, apparently some fuses were not inserted properly… 😀
Please review MG Hector Savvy Pro Petrol CVT
I have been asking for this multiple times! I would love Karthikeya take on it.
Hey Arun! Thanks a ton for the suggestion.

Waiting for that.

My budget is less than 12lacs. I had considered Honda Amaze MT elite edition , i20 Asta MT. I did not check kia sonet. Do you recommend ? Do you have any other suggestions ?
You should check it out. Do let us know what you expect/need - will help pick between them.
