Buy Maruti Suzuki Fronx Or Kia Sonet?

- Опубліковано 16 тра 2024
- The Maruti Suzuki Fronx might be Baleno-based but it enters a space where the Kia Sonet has reset parameters by creating a persuasive, premium experience. If the Maruti Brezza was the normal SUV, then the task of being the cool and premium SUV falls to the Fronx. Kartikeya's working out how to choose between the Kia Sonet and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx on Balance.

Guys, what about fronx vs exter.
I'm considering the 1.2 AMT of both.
The roads I drive on are usually very good, even when broken, they're the kind where an alto can drive easily.
"The Fronx has UV cut glass while the Sonet has a sun-roof."
Everything about these cars sort of fits in the image the above statement creates, isn't it ?
The Kia pampers you while the Maruti helps you to take on the realities in a reasonably sublime manner, both true to their brand identities 😊
Very well said SD! Very well said! And fair! ❤️ it.
Fronx has extremely bad AMT which Sonet has much more mechanically superior DCT. UV cut glass is great add on but for such a small glass house doesn't make much difference.
@@siddharthgoyal4008The torque converter automatic on the fronx is peppier and has lesser turbo lag than the dct offered on venue and sonet.
@@ferbinxyz true, but there's reason that TCs are used for low power cars it is because they sap out a lot of energy.
@@siddharthgoyal4008TCs are way better in terms of reliability, maintenance and efficiency! Maruti uses it because it is the goal of the brand to make their cars highly efficient and reliable. Even BMW uses the TC not DCT so do you mean that BMW making low powered cars??? And I can say that the best TC in the world is the BMWs! They are using TCs because they are less problematic than DCTs.
My friend & I spotted fronx on road when it just launched and chased it for long time thinking it’s some porsche/amg. They totally rocked the design. Whoever worked on its design deserves a raise
😍😍❤️❤️ That says something!
But I wonder what they smoked when they named it FRONX
When you want to be a poet but forced into sales.

He didn't get this opportunity in cardekho :P
At first I was in for the comparison but 1 min later I was glued with this new unorthodox, minimalistic, aesthetic editing and visuals that we have never come across in the motor review world. Kudos to all the team for this amazing piece!
Wow, thank you!
Fronx 1.2delta+ seems like a proper value. No nonsense NA petrol with necessary features and looks.
Thanks for sharing your perspective!
And HTK+ for the Kia
Seat adjustable
So many options in the nano/micro/mini "suv" market, I'm just happy there's the City/Verna/Virtus for us sedan lovers.
Absolutely! ❤️❤️ Glad to meet a fellow appreciater! Hehe
@@motorinc I'm a bit pessimistic on the EV side, with the battery pack being in the floorboard we'll mostly see SUVs & crossovers. Hope there is a phev sedan option in the future that has negligible emissions for urban trips & doesn't need a massive battery for longer trips.
Eagerly waiting for Sir shumi to take on duke 390😍
In the works!
@@motorinc when can we expect 🥺
Same here waiting for the verdict. It’s matter to me most
@@motorinc Make sure Ferocitas is okay with it 🤣
The video editing and your commentary were both so beautiful and in synergy. The neat and clean shots, the simple but aesthetically beautiful editing, highlighting which part when you are talking specifically.
True that beautiful things don't ask for attention
Excellent Work. I love the way you have covered every aspect of comparison. Great work !!!
I don't usually comment on videos but I must say, this video was absolutely amazing!! I'm in the market and have been going back and forth between these two vehicles. I loved loved loved your commentary...especially the wit and humor injected exceeded my expectations and made me re-watch a couple of times just to hear “…that can be trouble”. 🤣
And you also helped me to come to my decision 😊
Keep up the good work!
Wow, thank you! Glad we could help! And congratulations! Do keep us posted!
My father owns a Sonet, he loves it to core of his heart, every time one drives it can feel the positive experince.
Thanks for sharing your perspective!
Maruti has found a sub segment within the subcompact crossover category with the Fronx. They increased the price of Brezza and made it almost look like a Creta rival..And within that gap they brought the Fronx..This is a great business strategy..However the VFM thing that once we associated with Marutis is no more there.Jimny is just an example.
True that! Prices are quite high now!
I think breeza also got expensive due to 1.5 ltr engine since it lack tax exemption.
Thank you, I needed this comparison.
So happy to see your channel talking about Sonet. Kia Sonet is a silent performer and it is a car that is close to most customer requirements . Good height, good fuel and transmission options and best features . What else does one want. Loved how to chosen Sonet and not the Venue for the comparison
Thanks for joining us!
Great review. Kudos to Motorinc, you people are taking vehicle reviews to just another level. Waiting for your next one....

Such good content . Keep coming back to the channel. And it always feels like a well curated fine dining experience 🌟
Thank you for those kind words, Subramaniam! ❤️
We had a swift vdi for almost 13 years and then a couple of months back we bought the Kia Sonet HTX 1.5 Diesel imt.
I test drove the venue, nexon and sonet on the same day and I somehow liked sonet. During the TD the advisor took me to an empty stretch and asked me to just push it and the way it behaved made me consider it the next moment. The braking power was also very good considering the car can reach 80-90 kmph without any effort and can stop without any hassle with just a slight touch. The suspension is a little stiff and better suited for highway driving and on the broken roads it absorbs fine but if the roads become little harsh, you might feel that stiffness of the suspension.
The interiors and the cabin feel premium and the infotainment system and steering mounted controls are very responsive.
I haven’t test drove fronx but it too has its own set of pros and cons.
It totally depends upon you on what you choose, choose the one which you love and you will be happy for the rest of your life.
Always! Pick what is right for you! 😁
@@motorincYes absolutely 💯

This channel should be growing much faster than it is currently. What a brilliant content 💯
Thank you Anuj!
Love it! U are setting some high bar! Keep it coming! #proudkiasonetowner
Loved the analogy of how one pair of sensible hands made the fronx and many enthusiatic hands made the sonet. Nice writing
🙏🏾Rohit ! ❤️
I bought a sonet 1.5 yrs back, what I like is the high speed stability. The design is fantastic with right sets of tires and suspension setup to my liking. Tbh, the gravity grey color looks muscular and big compared to other colors. As karthikeya hits the right strings always, the cabin is plush. Now a days my dad drives it, coz I am inclined to riding motorcycles😊.
Hey MKM! Thanks so much for sharing that with us! Congratulations on the purchase and all the best for the car key fight with your dad! Hehe

Great video! Insightful, thoughtful and the production quality is so high.
Also, Could you please do a similar comparison video between Seltos and Taigun/ Kushaq?
Thank you! We look forward to doing that!
Well explained . Having a Baleno and a Sonet in family I can summarise the experience in line saying Baleno is an all rounder and a family car whereas Sonet is a driver’s car and focus more in experience then utility . Sonet feels and actually is a mini Seltos in all regards
Thanks for sharing your garage life with us! Your update will be super helpful to many!
Great Content as always.

Congratulations ! Keep us posted on the experience!
A great great channel and fan of u two for years now
K I jus wanna ask that is the Sonet Facelift around the corner and wud u suggest getting one now cz if the facelift is close better to take the newer model of sonet??❤
Hey TP! Thanks so much! We wouldn’t ask you to hold on. As you saw with the Seltos, you can expect tweaks to design and features. But nothing dramatically different expected with Sonet. So, we wouldn’t hesitate if we were getting a good deal. 😁
Hey guys! Great video, loved the presentation!
Would it be possible for you to compare a premium hatchback (i20?) to a compact SUV (Sonet, Venue?), considering all of these cars have the same length and are just as wide. I think it would interesting to see how a proper sub 4m hatch compares to these raised hatches! Be it in driving dynamics, space, comfort etc. Just some food for thought.
Thank you! Keep up the great work.
There’s a more direct comparison -
Fronx to Baleno. Would that work? 😆
@@motorinc The reason why I said i20 is because the turbo variant costs just as much as the CSUVs, so that would be a more apt comparison imo (especially the N Line).
Well Crafted video. Good job.
I would like to know about in what variant is the VFM of Fronx is stretched thin? Is this comparision purely of the top turbo variants?
Hullo BN! Yes, it’s the turbo and turbo+at that’s expensive. The 1.2 engine variants are much better value.
My wife has Sonet GTX+ AUTO. Every time i take it instead of my car, it puts a big smile on my face😊

I don't even understand the economics of how such good quality automotive content can come from an Indian youtube channel. i really like the fronx it's the most exciting model and yes it truly the shape of new but my favourite is the return of the 1 litre 3 cylinder turbo it's boosterjet same engine found on the baleno rs and i hope maruti will use this engine to all models not just the fronx 😊

Is the Toyota Raize basic model better than these two?
Great content. Could you elaborate about the reason for the low end lag in the 1.0 tgdi engine of the sonet which you mentioned. You said kia traded low end grunt to more horse power. More HP should ideally translated to better low end acceleration right?
No, more hp comes at the cost of low-end performance most often. Turbo lag makes this feel even worse
Hello there! I would try to answer this question with some knowledge that I know. So basically power (hp or kW) is a product of torque (Nm) and rpm (strictly speaking rad/s). Now if an engine produces more torque or the peak torque at higher rpms, it gives out more power, so the high end power is better (for instance, check out the specs of smaller sport bikes like the r15, they go to crazy high rpms with limited torque, which comes at higher rpms hence more power).
Now as far as turbos are concerned, it has a turbine and a compressor. The exhaust pressure of the engine usually spools up the turbine which then drives the compressor to send that sweet compressed air to your engine cylinder and makes all that mighty extra power. As I pointed out, “exhaust pressure” at lower rpms, that pressure is generally low and slowly builds up as the rpm rises up, which then drives up the compressor easily and boom, extra torque, so extra power. So ig that’s the issue here with Sonet, and it is kinda common in many cars, like the Fiat diesel engines used in older marutis (like the ciaz, ertiga etc.). I had seen an autocar review where they pointed out that the car didn’t really produce any power below 2000 rpm, but the same engine with reduced power performed better on the smaller cars like the swift. Ig that’s the disadvantage of slapping just a bigger turbo.
I think for the fronx here, they used a smaller turbo, where it is easier to drive the turbine even with smaller exhaust pressure at lower rpms and hence the lag is much lower, and compiled with the lower weight of the car (I guess) it is easier to propel the car forward. But yeah, the peak power produced is lower.
That’s just my view, my understanding of the concept. I am open to any corrections to whatever I have stated, cuz this concept really seems interesting. :)
@@c04-rhikbanerjee55 Thanks Bro, that was a really nice and detailed explanation on this fascinating topic
I'm planning to buy a Zeta variant of Fronx which costs 14.5lakhs. Do you think I should spend this much? Can someone please comment on the reliability and longevity of Boosterjet engines? Thank you everyone for shedding some light!
The thing all the reviewers miss are the low variants, talking about engines on higher specs only. We have a Sonet with naturally aspirated 1.2 engine. It feels like it is missing power below 2000 RPM, and above 2000 it gives low mileage compared to the other car we have, which is Swift. The Swift's engine feels a lot peppier at low RPMs and the mileage is amazing but yep, the build quality is bad.
Suggestion: talk about lower variant's engines and compromises as well.
Hey Rohan! Thanks for bringing this up. You are absolutely right. We often don’t get those to test extensively. And yes, the 1.2 is dull. We do address these queries in our FAQ series. Do check out the ones that are already on YT. We will release them for Sonet too. Thank you for writing in!
Wow what a great review. Was confused as hell.. booked Sonet after watching this video ❤
Congratulations! Wish you many awesome journeys! Keep us posted on how it goes! Thanks!
Just bought the Sonet htx 1.0T dct over the 1.5T AT torque converter Fronx.
As the video title i was confused too between the two.
On road price of 15.4-15.7. Vs the sonets was high. Fronx feels claustrophobic and the moment you drive the sonet dct in power mode you’ll feel like yess- i love driving!! Have done only one 200 km highway ride and on good roads it flows and cabin noise is bare minimum which was my most important criteria. Everything gives you the feeling that you’ve bought a car of a higher segment.
Sonets rear camera is so good even at night that the lack of 360camera wont be felt. Yes it suffers in mileage and my car is too new to comment on that. I am a motorcyclist but a car is not like a motorcycle and so the cabin matters infact more so if you are in a city like Mumbai. And hence you’ll see a lot more sonets on road than the Fronx.. test drive but im sure 80% of buyers wil buy the Sonet. Its value for money like the first gen ktms.
Congratulations on your new ride! Awesome! Keep us posted on your ownership experience please.
Greatly put together.. 🎉
I request you to share your experience with VW Virtus 1.0 TSi.
If possible please share with us how do you feel it when compared with it's immediate rivals.
Hullo! The Virtus is better than the Slavia in terms of cabin quality - and that is a big advantage in its favour. Engine and gearbox are the same on both. Is there anything in specific you wanted to know? Do let us know.
Happy to see your reply. 😊
I'm afraid if my question is too generic.
I was wondering how Virtus 1.0 Highline MT fair against other cars (be it a hatchback or sedan or SUV) as a fun to drive yet practical option at 16 lakh OTR.

Torque converter over dual clutch any day!! no need to worry about it overheating or failing one day. it even covers the turbo lag well from the 1.0 3cyl turbo. Seats are much better on sonet tho
That’s the beauty of the engine. It makes the TCs life easier. Not all DCTs are the same. Not all TCs are the same. Some are better than others. The ZF8HP is the god of transmissions. And that’s a TC.
@@motorinc don't you think torque converters need torque and hence matches well with diesel, whereas snappy shifts of dct pairs well with rev happy petrol engine. Vw had diesel vento with dsg and having driven that gave me mild amt like thuds. Just a thought though.

I am trying to buy my first big bike not new but used so should I wait and get a new e20 compliant bike or is it safe to buy a used one
Our information is that _up to E20_ older vehicles will manage with small changes to a selection plastic or rubber parts (usually the stuff carrying fuel to the engine). Past E20, the struggle for older vehicles will be real
Baleno Zeta AMT vs Fronx Delta+ AMT - which would you recommend as a good 2nd car for City driving for family (primary car is Ciaz Zeta MT)

Karthikeyan Sir, please advise if XUV 300 or Tata Nexon? Also a comparison will really help
Mind says XUV300 is the best with performance and safety...
However, interiors, resale and strength lies with TATA Nexon
Your advise is much appreciated
Nexon also has good safety, is generally the preferred pick.
Don't go for the XUV 300 petrol. The mileage is poor. The x4 diesel is really good and also has a sunroof. If you want a petrol engine the new Nexon would be a great choice.
Hullo Vinod! Are you looking at petrol auto? If so the new Nexon’s DCA is a big advantage. Other than that there is the cabin experience and features. As much as we find the XUV300 really fun to drive - that’s the only real reason to recommend it. Please let us know if there are any other questions or doubts we could help you out with. Thanks!
The Xuv300’s interior is just slightly better than that of the Balero’s

I like the practicality of Baleno, ah sorry Fronx but not a big fan of dark coloured interiors. I like light-coloured interiors it gives the car that spacious look and feels very welcoming, only downside is maintenance for some people. That's where Honda excels. Please do a comparison between Grand Vitara and Elevate.
Hey AJ! Hans for the suggestion! We are looking forward to that!
Do a video for Jimny too!!! Of course the Motorinc style.
