Thanks for the video. Even though our preferences are entirely different, I enjoyed seeing your preferences. I prefer long barrel handguns. I prefer heavy bullet weighs. I prefer subsonic rounds when shooting with sound suppression. I prefer FMJ when shooting 25acp and 380acp pistols.
Some studies I was reading stated that 500ft-lbs of energy is the lower end of where you will see consistent "hydrostatic shock" and tissue damage outside the direct path of the bullet. Otherwise, Most handgun rounds below that will only poke holes. (...and despite the caliber of the bullet, without the hydrostatic shock, the bullet holes are nearly identical in size/diameter... so the most important thing if shot placement and penetration depth).
I currently have Gold Dot 124 in my G19. I also like & use Super Vel SCHP 115+p. Underwood also loads the Gold Dot bullet in their ammo. Midway USA sells Underwood. I buy Win Ranger in 9mm 147 & .45 acp 230.
Lately, I've been carrying the Federal HSTs. Dunno how they'd perform in a critical situation (I hope I never find out!), but they shoot well in practice.
unfortunately i live in the people’s republic of NJ and we can not carry hollowpoints which is irresponsible of the state in my opinion. NJSP does not consider hornady critical defense or duty a hollowpoint because they come with the plastic bead in the cavity. i actually like the 135gr critical duty rounds although everyone says oh that will jam up up in court. “the defense will say ur a wanna be cop” ill take my chances tho
Personally I carry HST 124 +p or AAC 124 xtp rounds. Both have shown excellent performance out of both short and normal length carry barrels. I also have and do have loaded into magazines underwood extreme defender 90 grain +p+ for emergency reloads.
i got a set of the liberty ammo on your recommendation, i have 2 glock 42s, i have fully loaded with liberty feels like there's nothing in it. the other i have Hornady critical defense and its like double the weight. its really crazy how lite those rounds are vs all the others.
While I understand ballistics, my big thing is…will your firearm work with what you have in it? Are you capable of hitting what you’re aiming at? I would train with what you have and be capable with what you have.
People are gonna disagree with me. But foot pounds of energy does not translate to good ballistics. Penetration, expansion, shoot placement. Are the 3 things that matter.
Been carrying the hell out of my J frame everywhere recently. Because it's an airweight, S&W recommends a cap on how hot .38 loads it can handle, so I opted for the 90grain Critical Defense Lite from Hornady. Haven't chrono'd it yet but regardless, I trust it with my life.
@@Sunsa0 I’ve always heard that if you use powerful “magnum” loads in lightweight revolvers that it could cause cartridges in your cylinder to jump their roll crimp. Per S&W manual it says explicitly not to use greater than 120grain magnum loads.
I train with remington and carry gold dots. I also use federal. Im looking for good rounds to run out of my LCP max. It doesn't seem to like the remington stuff.
For a cheap solid copper hollow point check out S&B XRG 9mm And for an interesting round Federal syntech defense 9mm acts just like Cival defense just way heavier at 138 grains and made of polymer
I carry a G19 gen 5 or a G43X both carry Hornady Critical Defense because that seems to be all I can find around me good rounds I'd trust my life to them but they are pricey.
Ive got civil liberty for my 9mm and .40 that ill carry during summer more. I usually carry critical defense in my shield plus on the daily. Civil liberty overwatch in my home defense set up, hst, underwood 124 +p, or v crown if i edc my home defense cz p10c.
Hey SPN great video, do you ever carry with plain Jane ball ammo full metal jacket? The military uses FMJ Ball ammo, I kind of wonder why if it's for cost or more for targets behind cover.
Worker at Dunhs told me Nickel plated cartridges are awful for the gun, cause it is harder than steel, and manufacturers hate it, recommend against it???
The miniscule layer of nickel they put on top of the brass isn't going to enhance the strength to beyond that of a strictly steel case even if nickel does have a higher hardness than average steels.
After years of testing thousands of rounds to trust my life with… Buffalo Bore or Underwood 124gr +p+ is the only ammo I run in my FN503. Nosler ASP or HST 165gr in my XDM 4.5, 124gr +p HST’s in my duty length 9mm’s. Buffalo Bore, Grizzly and Underwood top 3 manufacturers not on shelves Federal premium HST’s best thing you’ll find on shelves. Make sure your ammo preforms well through heavy clothing, not a fan of those extreme defender rounds they’re extremely too light for me.
I have land that I shoot on, and have some some basic ammo tests with water jugs and jeans. Learned what works best in short barrel. The ranger sxt from the winchester doesn’t like short barrel shield in 40s&w. I mostly carry gold dot or federal HST, they both always open up and preform, HST seems to be bigger and better. My favorite is federal 115 grain +p+ 9bple (old school LEO ammo) they open huge and do great in water from short barrel. I’ve tested the Liberty 9mm and not a fan blows the hell out of the 1st water jug but just little piece that goes into 2nd jug 3rd if your lucky, but HST, and gold dot and 9+p+ 9bple federal do so much more damage. I’ll probably buy a couple gel blocks to do a little testing but makes me feel so much better knowing what I carry works/expands I learned Hornady duty ammo sucks on short barrel. But good in mid-full size G19 and up.
My favorite you showed was Civil Defense. Excellent rounds! Another one you should try is Simx Defensecore. 9mm is 45 grains at 2250 fps, the .40 is 58 grains at 2050 fps, and the .45 is 72 grains at 1825 fps. The ammo is not +p rated.
124gr Federal HST

It’s all about that Underwood! The 180grn & other grn 10mm XTP’s are great
I currently have Gold Dot 124 in my G19. I also like & use Super Vel SCHP 115+p. Underwood also loads the Gold Dot bullet in their ammo. Midway USA sells Underwood. I buy Win Ranger in 9mm 147 & .45 acp 230.
I carry super vel schp 115 +p in a 3.75” barrel. Great stuff.
You have great taste for the Underwood! I love an extra light weight bullet myself! 🤘
Lately, I've been carrying the Federal HSTs. Dunno how they'd perform in a critical situation (I hope I never find out!), but they shoot well in practice.

Underwood Xtreme Defender 90gr +P+ is your 9mm answer.
What a 💩🕳️ state. I would've moved a long time ago
Sooooo glad I left Jersey and actually enjoy carrying in freedom

Great choice! And they fly… respect!

i would've liked to see the rounds out of the box but still good information
People are gonna disagree with me. But foot pounds of energy does not translate to good ballistics. Penetration, expansion, shoot placement. Are the 3 things that matter.
I like the hst, I carry it in all my different caliber edc's 🙂

J frame is my go to summer gun
Why a lite tip?

Speer gold dot is one of the brands I trust. Also another one I trust is PRVI PARTIZAN defense line in 147 grain for 9mm.
I train with remington and carry gold dots. I also use federal. Im looking for good rounds to run out of my LCP max. It doesn't seem to like the remington stuff.
Civil Defense. Half the weight. 2,000 FPS for 9mm. 30% less recoil. Does not over penetrate.
Hornady 124 xtp has reliable expansion and can go through a bear with a little extra powder
You should try double tap ammo
18 bucks for a box of 40? Where do you buy your ammo? Its about 25 where I live.
I recommended the g9 defense ehp a while back but i carry the 9mm. Glad to see you liked it 👍 keep up the good work brother 🙂
For a cheap solid copper hollow point check out S&B XRG 9mm

I carry sig 124gr hollow points everything I’ve seen on them they seem to be solid performers
I carry a G19 gen 5 or a G43X both carry Hornady Critical Defense because that seems to be all I can find around me good rounds I'd trust my life to them but they are pricey.
Underwood is my favorite ammo, unfortunately, I went to order a few boxes last night and it’s $14 just to 1-2 boxes and it goes up after that

Always hlllows or solid projectiles using fluid dispersion. The reason the military uses it is for cost but mainly reliability with feeding. Respect
It is because hollow point ammunition isn't allowed to use the combat or war conflicts, tho military mp carry it to guard us bases.
The Geneva convention banned hollow points so they have to use FMJ
I used to use Hornady Critical Defense, but I am now using Sig V-Crown.
Hornady critical stuff off the table?
Man I'm super early thanks for always giving great info spn
Civil liberties are loud! They’re the best for 380 any barrel length. Guaranteed to not over penetrate.
People usually want more penetration out of 380.....
Worker at Dunhs told me Nickel plated cartridges are awful for the gun, cause it is harder than steel, and manufacturers hate it, recommend against it???

357 sig 9mm and 762x39 for my edcs😎😎😎

No Hornady?
Speer Gold Dot any caliber.
Gold dot and HST>> anything else
Punch over penetrates a lot in gel.thery're good though. Underwood in 9 and 380 all day.
More ammo videos pls
I thought the last box of underwood would be 68gr 357 sig. 2100 FPS an assume round.
I carry home defense hollow point in my 9mm
I'm not big on civil defense, I'm not sure penetration is gonna be that great with such a light load.
Kinda the point
I stick with the Lehigh underwood ultimate penetrator maximum rounds
Speer gold dot 9mm 147 grain
I thought Hornady was the bees knees? Somebody talk to me? Btw I carry speer gold and hornady in .40 and hornady and sig v in .357 sig
Hornady does decent but Speer gold dot and HST do better because they’ll get the same penetration with way better expansion

i carry civil liberty 45 acp in my glock 30 now based off your recommendation and love them so thanks!
