Streets will never forget Rooney, people can say what they want, but the guy was pure world class. Easy top 5 best English players ever.
Top top class
As a Chelsea fan I agree. He was my dream player and we dreamed of him to join Chelsea. I remember the fifa days on Ps2 and psp Rooney was wanted the most
I’m a city fan and I can’t argue. Great player
What a ball and finish for his debut goal. Wasn't his fault all those awesome players in the England squad couldn't win. England had such a great team and he was supposed to be the 18yr old savior lol. Wish it had happened but kinda overshadowed how good he was because he didn't get that respect
@@user-he8xr2yl7lalso mighty city fan. But you can't deny how lethal he was sometimes awesome player. Pep would have him lol. Go the City
Watching this just feels like am back in '04. It only seems like yesterday when we played this game. What a wonderful time we had as UTD supporters.
It was an excellent showdown. Blessed are those who watched the match in 2004
Now you’ve become the noisy neighbours how does it feel??
@@camkai1998 20 Top flight titles and 3 European top flight cups tell a different story my friend lol 😂 typical city bandwagon jumper fan comment.

I'm guessing your not from Manchester as to real fans he will never be a legend at Manchester United
Rooney was and always was a beast. Underrated all his career. He deserves his flowers, I’m a LFC fan but have to admit it
👍✍️
Not sure he was underated much though.
I'm almost 50 and saw Rooney developing all through his playing career and know very well how he was perceived.
An absolutely fantastic player and quite rightly considered as such by any football fan that knew anything about what made a true world class player.
He wasn’t underrated in his early career - it was only after he started to get injured when he lost a yard or two in pace then he wasn’t quite so dangerous
Didn't have shit on bobbi firmino
Same with gerrard and lampard we honestly was blessed to have them
what a player.. still underrated.. not being spoken like the other legends..
Imagine!
I keep wondering. Just recently, De Bruyne broke his all time premier league record of most assists.

SAF 's smile at Rooney's second is absolutely beautiful
Sure, i found it beautiful, I said, it must be included in the video
Read my mind
I was only 11 at the time and couldn’t watch it not only due to me being a kid but also the late night kick off times. Remembered it like yesterday how every single kid even both the juniors and seniors along with some of the adults at school were absolutely raving about his Utd/Ucl debut. Rooney from age 18-27 was an absolute freak of nature. A player that more or less isn’t just defined by the goals but also well defined by how he’s any managers’ and players’ dream to play alongside. Insane desire and hunger to win, always putting his team first and giving the balance for other players to shine as well plus incredibly clutch and talented. Of all the modern era English or British players,Rooney absolutely gets into the top 3.
Wow, thanks for the in-depth analysis
I have to say - when I was 11 years old I loved this shirt and Rooney with "8" on his back. Now I'm 31 - and for me it's still the best times for being United fan, and that shirt is best ever United home shirt ever.

WAYNE ROONEY WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD.HE WAS UNBEATABLE N IRREPLACEABLE UNDERRATED LEGENDARY GREATEST OF ALL TIME .🙆👍👏💯🔥🔥❤️
Perfectly said
I'm agree 💯❤
Probably the greatest debut appearance for a club let alone Manchester Utd in football history. I remember watching this live as if it were yesterday and being totally astonished at Rooney's composure on the ball and infront of goal for a then 18 year old youngster, hard to believe this was 20 years ago!
Years and running very fast. But the boy was fantastic
Rooney could, and probably should, have achieved as much as Ronaldo in the game had he mustered a similar dedication for fitness and diet. Rooney was the greater natural talent of the two as teenagers.
I agree 100%
Vividly remember standing in the Strettie around 07-08 and thinking to myself about Ronaldo "Best player in the world? He's not even the best player on the pitch."
@@chrisbyrom1984 Ronaldo... the sideways and backward dribbler with a million no-impact step-overs. He was not very entertaining to watch.
He was a smoker tho' 😅 but he's one of the best players I've ever seen
He was always held back because of his manlet stature.
Aside from the amazing Rooney, Fergie fielded Bellion on the wing and Kleberson and Djemba-Djemba in midfield and still won by 6-2! Genius
Fergie was on his own class
i mean those players you mentioned all cost way more money were on way higher wages than anyone in the Fenerbache team mate
@@sponish0 What about the Fenerbache team?
my mistake, though same poimt stands @@Spurz1975
Well, it's possible when you put Ryan Giggs with them, which basically harassed Fenerbache's midfield all by himself
Nistleroy's goal for the 5th had a touch of Bergkamp about it, pure class.
True 😀
Read my mind
And 20 years later….. Old Trafford is crumbling, the training complex is outdated, the players don’t care, world class players don’t want to sign for them. Hopefully the new part owners can make this club special once again.
Amen
It's all caused by SAF himself...he has the power to convince the owners all these years. Why didn't he compel them on the state of the stadium ? They surely respect him a lot & will atleast reason.....also he has the power to advice on creating proper football structure too..but he didn't do anything...I am fully convinced he doesn't want anyone to surpass his legacy at MU. hopefully, INEOS will change all these mess and create a robust system and structure.
Rooney was one of the best players weve ever seen... definitely 100% way under rated
He's never given enough credit that he deserves
He was on the fifa game cover for around 3 years which says a lot.
Yes 💯
Rooney was a truly genius, a physical monster and gifted
Gifted with every aspect of a good sportsman
Peaked early but what a joy to watch in his prime I remember
ManU players back then were all such a PRESENCE on the field.
They listened to their manager
This was not bc a good United side
Look no at the starting lineup
Carrol, silverste, billion, dj dj, kleberson
Except for Bellion and Djemba Djemba 😂

Great players, team spirit, work ethic, pride........we thought it would last forever..... 😢
Nothing is permanent, they go and come. Our prayer is that it comes back sooner
Rooney had pace when he was young because of the shape of his body, the same shape made him slow before his time. Amazing player
He had an advantage and a disadvantage in the same package
Basically he had a great advantage because he was premature and had way more strength in comparison to his age group.
But with time that advantage faded away and his body type isn't really made for longevity in soccer, where endurance and other things matter way more.
His body type would be perfect for rugby, american football, boxing..............with very high force, strength and power and at the same time a very high intelligence in terms of perceptoin of fast moving physics, like a ball, a fist or whatever.......my english is too bad to elaborate on that. 😂😂
Best champions league debut ever. He was so well-integrated as an 18 year old into the team. Not forgetting Euro 2004.
A terrific teenager
One of the Greatest of his Generation❤️🩸.
Wow he was amazing he was able to kick a soccer ball around and put it in the net ,amazing
He matured early
There has never been a more complete footballer at the age of 18 since him either.
Very correct.

Ryan Giggs was insane
He was more clinical as a winger
@maestrocomps As a winger can also be insane, I started watching the MU matches when Giggs was in his prime stage. Giggs, Bale, and Messi were my favorite too.
Hard to believe but, like Beckham, he's criminally underrated by the media. What more could you ask of these two players?
Nothing absolutely.

Rooney was amazing from this day, to the day he retired. The season that sticks in my mind the most was when everyone was saying "Rooney is getting old" and "He should retire" and yet, that season he alone was the only reason we were managing to stay in the top half of the table, due to his assists and goals, mainly his assists. This was after Alex Ferguson left, so I am guessing it was when we had Van Gaal managing.
Great analysis
The kid with „thank you for Rooney” is a legend, wonder where he is now.
He must be struggling to accept the United's current situation and hoping that the future will better, just as the rest of us 😃

Built like a machine those first few years easily best in world
True, no young player has matched his performance ever
Best teenage footballer I've ever seen 😤
Lol you must have seen very limited football. Messi as a teenager were far ahead of Rooney. Pato at 18 was incredible. Van Basten as a teenager was incredible too.
Rooney's career was more successful both as a teenager and as an adult than all the above mentioned players, perhaps not Messi
@timedone8502 Rooney played like an adult from a young age. Watched him week in week out and not highlights. He had something about him that separated him from a young Messi Ronaldo or a Neymar. He did everything from scoring tackling assisting long passing dribbling. He wasn't just effective in the final third like a young Messi or Ronaldo. He bullied men. What I've seen isn't limited I just tend to think for myself

I was there that night. 500mile round trip. Worth every mile
Ooh, wow!
Fantastic
Rooney was definitely one of the old time players who would be successful in the modern possession & pressing game. What surprised me about him was how good and reliable he was at finishing scoring chances, but he took too few shots during his career. He should've been a bit more selfish when he had the ball.
True we are true lengends

Rooney was a beast but man this team was unreal.
Rooney made it so, his generation had no much legends, him only, maybe with Scholes and Giggs
That summer Rooney played his best football for England, if he hadn't gotten injured I think we'd have probably won the Euro's. His United debut was on a par to his England performances. That I believe was his peake. He had a brilliant career yet somehow under achieved .
All time top scorer for man United, won several PL titles, won the champions league, played in 3 CL finals, all while having an extremely high intensity game that hasn’t been matched by many. He didn’t under achieve, he became underrated due to the short term memory of football fans that only remembers the Moyes and van gaal days, in which Rooney was one of the best players even then whilst surrounded by mediocrity
Thank you very much.
I remember him playing with likes of Obertan, but still managed to help the team get results
@mr.gilbert2790 I'm not suggesting he wasn't a great player. He also had a brilliant career. I'm stating the obvious. If he maintained the level of 2004 throughout his career he'd have scored even more goals. As his best tournament playing for England was in 2004 that just proves my point further (in my opinion). I know for a fact he didn't look after himself as a professional should, maybe that was a factor.
💯 2004 was his prime as mad as that sounds
@@mr.gilbert2790 him at united and Del Piero at Juve, very similar fate at their last moments in their clubs. Everything about him in PL reminds me of Del Piero. And vice versa, everything about Del Piero in Serie A reminds me of Rooney.
