That's some great film footage of our bravest and greatest generation. Thank you.
My father ( Capt. Edmund McCaffray, Jr. w the175th - regimental ammuntion officer) was wounded in Villebaudon (20 km S of St. Lo) on July 31, 1944
My father was in the 1st Bn 175th Infantry. Wounded three times: St Lo and twice before Plouzane near Brest.
damn almost 80 years ago
The film at 3:17 is somewhat famous as you see a G.I. actually flinch while being filmed when some gun fire flies by.
my dad served with the 747th tank battalion co. c. that could have been his tank.
Interesting. So the took wrecked halftracks that could not be repaired and completely stripped them of any usable parts and stacked all the tracks here, the bogies there, etc. , so presumably they were preparing to ship the presorted “spare” parts forward with the division. Efficient cannibalism!
