K Kampy it’s so nice to see this kind of footage, that some dolt hasn’t added some stupid heavy-metal/fake classical soundtrack to you.

From all I've read or seen the German soldiers who knew the war was ending prayed that they would end up surrendering to the Americans and not the Russians.

By these I mean the average soldier, the conscript, etc. and not the fanatics determined to go out in a blaze of glory for their Führer.

Unbelievable footage. You see the nonchalant horror of war played out. One moment bloodied corpses lie like garbage, the next ecstatic civilians want to kiss them. The things these brave men must have witnessed.

What's with the leather helmet the guy is wearing at 1:11? Was that USGI? It looks like something a WWI flying ace might wear, except I'm wondering of there were radio earphones built in?

American tank crews wore those helmets.

A steel pot is a serious hazard when you are INSIDE the corded space of a tank and totally unneeded when the tank has a few inches of armor. But a re-inforced leather helmet is a very practical way to protect your head inside that same space full of sharp angles.

I would have loved to have had one of those Kubelwagens. Yep, back then they loved the Americans. TIME changes everything.
Yes I realize those are French, my comment was back then yje French loved Americans.
Not so much today. And yes I still would love to have a Kubelwagen..

Yes, the French actually still do love Americans. It’s just they don’t like our government at times but they can distinguish between the two.

pourquoi courir sur Paris ( alors que von cholditz de toutes façons s'était rendu) la 2eme dB avait reçu l'ordre d'aider à fermer la poche de falaise vers montormel. Les polonais s'y sont sacrifiés eux.

By the end of the war Hitler was reduced to using teens in that little kid looks like he might’ve been 12. The Japanese were in the same position and that’s when they started teaching young boys how to fly airplanes but not how to land them. They were supposed to fly over American ships in dive bomb into them, kamikaze.

france has almost always had the best soldiers, not just in europe, but some of the best in the world. i think one or two disasters, should not be a measure of their soldiers ability (or we'd be thought of by our own failures like the vietnam war or the murders of innocent civilians that happen from time to time) at the start of the second world war the french had generals that were far too old and timid to be leading any armies and idiotic politicians who let the victory of ww1 go to their heads and believed themselves immune to defeat because of how great their country was (sound familiar?)
