BALI FOR DIGITAL NOMADS: UBUD VS CANGGU
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 чер 2018
- It's now been just over a month since I've been living here in Canggu and so I thought it would be a good time to share my experience and compare it to what I experienced last time in Ubud.
If you're not familiar with either area, Ubud is the region in the centre of Bali that is popular for Yoga, Spirituality and Meditation whereas Canggu is the new kid on the block. Canggu has amazing nightlife, trendy cafes and the beach but it does come with a few issues.
Keep watching to hear my experience in each.

PERFECT, love this video. First destination is now set! I'm heading to Canggu. Wow I feel so motivated to make my digital nomad dream a reality now. 😃
I love both Ubud & Canggu. Bali is just gorgeous.
Thank you for this detailed comparison! Can't wait to arrive in a few weeks for my first time working in Bali
I think my wife and I will hit Bali next winter break, we hear good things, and thanks for the video it confirms what we hear!
Great video as always! Love how your videos have evolved as you've progressed over the years. I feel like I'm getting a really honest look at all of these places and how it is to be a digital nomad
Perfect comparison. I keep seeing videos about how great each place is, but no one has set up a comparative analysis. Looking forward to visiting next year
Informative video. I'll be making my way out there in a week or two
So how was your trip mate?
I’ve been watching you for years and you ALWAYS put out amazing, informative content. Thank you so much for your videos. I have shared them a bunch and you always inspire me. Thank you!
Thanks so much Sydney :)
Such a concise and compact insight into a glimpse of life in Canggu!
Really awesome Chris, thanks for sharing.
Such a great video! I agree with you on absolutely everything 😀Canggu is my personal favourite as well, but Ubud is also a really nice place. We stayed in Canggu for a month in 2016 and for two months last year, and we're planning our third trip now. It's just a great place 😊
What a great video and great tips! We’re coming to Bali in one month and we can’t wait to explore and make loads of videos from there! 😍
Such a great video. I'm headed off to Bali to nomad it up in November, and its like you read my mind!! This was super helpful! Thanks!
Both are on the list, I can't wait :) Love the info you tell us about both places
Love the sound of UBUD.... can’t wait to visit in December hope to stay 1 month :)
Love the vids Chris, great info
Great video! Glad to see there are more cafes now with good internet in Canggu. I like Dojo but it’s good that there are other options.
5:07 "If you don't want to ride a motorcycle or a scooter bike, you can definitely do without in Ubud."
Thank you, Chris. That's what I needed to hear. Granting that the video is 4 years old now, so who knows what's different, but: I really want a more walkable choice if I can swing it.
For me as a digital nomad, Canggu is first choice. I love the co-working spaces there. I also went to the dojo and found it great to work there. But what I liked most were the people, the local people and the other digital nomads in Canggu. 😀😍
New Sub! Keep up the good work! I can't wait to check out Bali and experience both of these cool places.
Once again great video Chris :-) Always love your insights on the digital nomad lifestyle. Been to Bali myself a couple of months. It's an awesome place. Looking forward to your upcoming videos. Just subscribed. btw: You have great taste in music :-)
I love that this video just happened! I was literally just having this debate with another digital nomad kicking around Bali. I spend a lot of time in Ubud when I'm over here, but I've just started exploring in Canggu as well. Pretty chill spot!
+TL Travel I think Chris just put our debate to rest here Teri ;) Great info man this is exactly what we have been asking people lately, then your video pops up...it's scary how I think the internet can read my mind!! We have been living in Ubud for almost 3 months but hear so much regarding Canggu. We have a little tot with us but sometimes just having the beach is all you need!
I can't remember which came first, this video or your question on my Instagram account BUT the purpose of this past week for me was entirely planned around picking between Ubud & Canggu once and for all haha. We had huge debate about it on our last group trip as well.
Thanks for like Bali(part of my country ), finally...after view your video, I like and I must be your subscriber. Deal,I like it.
God Bless
Wow !!! Thanks for sharing this. Very helpful!! I'm planning a trip there in august
Great great comparison, I was thinking of going back to Ubud but now I might give Canggu a shot, thanks ;)
Thanks for making our decision easier with the help of your video! 😊
Thanks so much for this amazing video! Planning on a month or two in Bali after graduating uni 😍🌈💖would love to try the digital nomad lifestyle and network with fellow entrepreneurs 🌴🌎
We are checking out Canngu now, currently writing this from Dojo bali in Canngu!
We'll also make some content about our experience we'll use this as a guide!
Been almost 2years worked in Canggu but still didn't get the feel , and lucky me will be back work in Ubud again next week ..so I vote for UBUD!
Another great video, thanks Chris. I'm in Rawai/Nai Harn Phuket now, been here for a year and a half. Picked up surfing and Bali is now on my radar. Maybe our paths will cross there sometime. All the best to ya
Awesome man! Good info! Gotta check out Canggu soon!
Hi Chris, it's a great video. Really appreciate your hard work in making them. Ubud and Canggu has awesome Co-working space called Outpost. They have Quite room for people who need more focus and room where we can have conversation. It's a great space!
Thanks Febry. I've worked out of Outpost before. Very good coworking space.
Great video Chris. I’m partial to this type of video...like you used to make!
Hi Christ, I’m also a digital nomad used to live in Bali. I love Canggu loads and agreed with you both Ubud and Canggu are a great place to stay but I chose Canggu ❤️❤️ will go back to Canggu next month again ^^
Yass finally someone talking about this!! This is what I love about Bali, that even though it's a small island, every corner of bali has different vibe, even the kind of people you meet there are different. Like Seminyak is for too-party mode, Sanur is kinda old people's and family place, Ubud can be a lil too "into-meditation" (for people like me), Denpasar is more local (the living cost is much cheaper, has the least foreigners), and Canggu is the right place for me (even though i m also indonesian)! There's always something happening, and i just love the vibe in canggu, the people, cafe, especially in Dojo in which almost everyday they have free ceminars (you can learn from people or give your talk to promote your business for free). So, living in bali is kinda getting to know who you are then you can choose which area suits you most. And dont worry, Bali is small! You can wander here and there easily if you change your mind about staying in one place. BTW, i watched your previous vids before coming to bali and stayed there for 6 months. One thing i like about your content is that your videos are not only about travel footages, but really gives information without us the audience having to watch unrelated content (like so many travel vloggers), not many youtubers put the audience before their selves. So keep up the good work, and looking forward to more stories!
nice oneee! Chris the Free TV!
Great content! Just found out about your channel and I'm working my way towards a freelancing kinda job, so the info you provide is comes in handy. Thanks, keep it up!
how did this go?
Was in ubud 20 years ago loved it , it looks so different now
I did not like Ubud at all. It's so annoyingly touristy.
Everywhere I walked, people offering me "massage" and "taxi", every other shop is a souvenir shop, cafes with €3 juices, because it's all priced for tourists... huge ripoffs. They would only charge less than $1 for the same juice if they were selling it to locals.
Amazing video!!! Cant wait to get there!!
Great video! I'm considering taking the plunge in the next six months very helpful
i love your videography style.
Awesome work Chris. I'll be in canggu in oct
Extremely useful. Thank you!
Look, is chris the freelancer! Great vid btw 👍
This helped me so much! I wanna travel and have fun but also work. However I’m a streamer are there gaming cafes?
hey, enjoyed your video. keep it up. We are heading to Bali. Hope to see you there.
Many thanks for the comprehensive review 🙂🙌🏼
For me it's a motivation
Chris pls don't stop....
OK. This report changed my mind about Canggu.. We are well travelled well seasoned couple that don't really want the hussle and bussle anymore, pushy people, over crowding and anything that is intrusive and Canggu sounds like it might be. Ubud actually sounds better (and cheaper) and might be right for those who are seeking a slower pace and a more intraflective lifestyle.. I really appreciate this comparison.. Its very significant for us and helps refine out decision.
Canggu is amazing. I remember visiting Dojo and almost getting bitten by their dog! Canggu has lots to offer and we're planning to buy over a surf hostel there, as well as a villa. Hope all turn out well
Chris, Ive been watching your videos during my breaks while sitting in my office space and dreaming to be able to come to Bali again as It is a special place. Now I am watching this after I decided to quit my telecom office work after 10 years and was planning to travel for longer to SEA including Bali and the pandemic situation closed it down. So thanks for this video as you brought back some nice memories of Canggu. ps. I really liked Okas's caffee have you been there? great place to chill and relax during lunch break.
This is great to know 😊 we’re heading to Bali on Friday and will be looking for good coworker spaces 😁

This video was really helpful, nice job! I just moved to Ubud and I definitely want to check out those coworking spaces!
Thanks Poppy! Let me know if you wanna catch up while you're in Bali. I watch your channel as well :)
Chris the Freelancer Yeah absolutely! I plan on being here for at least a few months :)
Awesome. Just DMed you on Instagram
finally man you'r back
Amazingly useful video! Thank you
Fyi. Now Canggu has dozens co-working spaces, they compete each other to be the best coworking space, you should check Tropical nomad right next to Pretty poison or Karma coworking.
Yeah. I went there. Really cool space. If you check the article it should be included.
Canggu is a good place to work for a digital nomad
thanks for the information. Enjoyed it!
Amazing video, thanks!
Well balanced review. Well done
Mv - gosh it wasn't like that year's ago but places change so much the more they get on the tourist trail
Nice, in canggu y nerd 2000-2500 euros per month to nave fun, while outskirts y live cheaper
Thank you!!!🌞🌞😍
Paradise...
Informative video.. i love ur vlog!
Great video as usual! What months are the best to visit? I'm planning on coming sometime after august!
Anytime is a good time to visit but it's gonna get busy soon (July/August) and it'll get rainy-er after that
Great video as always! Where did you buy your Laptop stand? I am traveling myself, so I can't sadly order anything online...
Ordered it online man. Sometimes the coworking space might have some to resell but otherwise, online is the way to go.
Thanks dude, great info 😁
Great stuff!!
Thanks for informative video! I'm coming over there, but as an software developer my main concern about working spaces is how the f you can do any serious work without docking station and at least two displays. Sure it's possible, but comfort and productivity must be lower.
What kind of work are those next to swimming pool can do, or at such small screens. Are all those just marketers, wiring posts and emails or what kind of job can you do on small laptop only?
You learn to make it work I guess...
Great point! That's why i rather wfh
I have been to Canggu that's nice i wish to stay there compare to KL, Malaysia
u can't compare btwn these two -- KL is sealess!!!!😆😆😆😆
I'll be heading to Canggu tomorrow and will stay there for 2 weeks, to determine if it could be a viable place to stay long-term (6+ months).
According to some if the comments here, it's become a bit of a victim of its own success but I'd like to see it with my own eyes. I'm considering a set up where I'd live 6-8 month in Bali and 4-6 months in a European city, to keep things a bit balanced.
Hoping that Canggu could be the place, but also open to giving Ubud a shot otherwise where I've already been heaps of times.
Hey, I was looking to do a similar thing to you
How has your experience been so far?
Whats the situation with tsunami risk in Canggu? And is there nay good neighborhoods that are in a 'safe' zone if there was a tsunami in canggu?
Great video! Thanks! One question, do Co-Working Spaces tend to be open 24 hours, so that you can communicate with clients during their business hours anywhere in the world? TIA
Usually, yes.
"taxi industry" lololololol it's a taxi mafia. Some locals agree, some disagree, but all foreigners see it for what it is. Anyway, great video! Shared it with my mom because I'm terrible at explaining to her what my life is like living in Canggu.
Mafia indeed! Extremely aggressive and at times violent individuals. Staying clear of them at all times: either I would sort out my own scooter, or go to a quiet street and still get a Grab...
Use Grab or Go Car if you Bali
I have watched quite a few of these videos and found them interesting and informative. That being said the focus on South East Asia is massively limiting. I understand the premise - low cost, high quality of life as can afford more. But what about family and friends elsewhere (yes I know this is mentioned whenever pros/cons come up). Realistically many people who want to be location independent with their jobs don't want to entirely up sticks to go pretty much as far away from north America/Europe as is geographically possible. Would be great to talk more about that in my humble view. (And yes I've seen the vids where not in Asia and the other UA-camrs, I'm just sharing a point about the ambundance of Bali etc focused videos).
both great place,,,but canggu more crodit on the road. if you travel to canggu suggest you drive after 2pm till 4pm.
Visit GANGGA COFFEE when in Ubud to do something on your Laptop
Go-jak is not restricted because it's an Indonesian company... it's more the uber and grabs but I never had an issue getting a Grab or a Go-jak bike...and I stayed in Canggu the entire time (Two months ) ...Getting a car seems to be more of the issue, I think because cars can carry more than one person, taking more dollars out of the local taxi pockets but yeah the go-jak is amazing and its cheaper then grab and uber and you can order food or anything you want using the go-jak app...if your in an area where go-jak is restricted its usually mean all taxies are restricted even the local ones...
Ah cool. Thanks for letting me know. I didn't actually take any Go-jeks while I was here but I just assumed as they are also a ride-sharing app.
I’m so excited to do something like this #goalsfor2019
come on ! you can do
Did you do it mom ?
Very nice like of your videos
hahah yah i ended up just hitting Starbucks in Canggu for the AC and wifi yah .. wish it wasnt the case but yah
Checked it out yesterday but didn't work. Looks cool! Reminded me of the one in Chiang Mai
Another solid video from ma man CTF.
Lewis the Linkbuilder!
Hubud is an awesome place
That beach looks like a dream! Question about any potential language barriers...obviously trying to learn a bit of the local language is important, but would you say there is a difference in communication for English speakers?
haha Tiffany. English is very well-spoken here. No need to speak Indonesian, although of course it would help.
I was just working from Copenhagen for a month. I tried the co-working locations, but they all closed by 6 PM. That’s only 11 AM in Chicago where my office is. I need to be able to work during ‘normal’ business hours. Are most co-working locations open such limited hours? That makes it hard for folks like me. Not that it will stop me. Just curious what your experience has been. Keep up the great work. My oldest is heading to Brisbane very soon. Sent him a link to your channel.
Yes. All the spaces I know are open 24/7
Im going to bali soon!
Awesome! Enjoy it man.

🌹🌺🌹
Good videoooo! Interesting and different. Already subscribe dude
Are they offering beds to sleep in Ubud or is it really just a working space?? thank youuu
Hy
Im Ailsa from Indonesia you go Bali use tour guide or just your self ..
Thanks
really great chanel, normaly i dont subscribe but here i did :) please keep making your great videos
Thanks for the comparison, Chris! Sounds like neither place has the right mix for some of us, but it'd be great to see a follow up of specific places in Ubud or Canggu that pull in some of the advantages of the other. I'd rather have the great cafe/coworking wifi options in Canggu but with more of a chill Ubud vibe. Not really into the partying. But also not into the Ubud tourist stuff either.
hmmm, maybe Chiang Mai then? Bali overall is just insanely touristy. It's hard to get a local experience here while still having the comforts of home. (unlike Chiang Mai)
Yeah CM would be a better mix for me but I'm thinking Bali for burning season, so maybe the question is where in Bali is the most CM-like in terms of vibe + amenities.
Hello. Love your videos! What are your thoughts on e-residency? Have you done a video for Estonia’s residency program for digital nomads?
I looked into it but it seems like it's a way to set up your business in the EU, not an actual EU residency.
Chris the Freelancer what’s an “EU”?
Great videos. Becoming a fast fan. Had to back you: cross-fit is super dangerous. My chiropractor advised against it. Its all about rushed movement, without deep consideration to proper form. Don't be afraid to speak your mind man. You might save someone else's back.
Nice vidéo !!!
Chris im from india and i want to come there for three months how much will it cost please do advice.
How about for expat seniors ?....few weeks in both ?
Which is easiest residency visa to get to go nomad and no tax?
any job opportunities for next year that you possibly know of?
