the gt 1030 supports up to 4K 60fps HEVC and VP9 so if you are looking for a graphic card for a multi media pc setup (like I was) it is the best choice.
I still have it 4 years later, I used it so much to play a lot of games and it's finally time to let it go, just have to find a candidate at a decent budget but this 460 will always have a place in my heart.
Defense contractors will often do mass computer refreshes. They are forced to buy US companies like HP. So what happens is you get huge spikes in volumes of older, somewhat decent hardware as the defense contractors sell it back to hp for pennies on the dollar. HP then sells it to some of their reburbishment partners , whom then put these older components on ebay, newegg, and amazon.
I got a GT 1030 for 10€ on a subsidiary of Ebay similar to Craigslist. It smelled like cigarettes and was pretty dirty but works like a charm in my Dell Mini-PC.
To me the color scheme looks fine and that old saying I remember .... Everything is beautiful in it's own way. RX 460 ... also the winner! Not even hard to decide choosing between those two cards.
This is going to be my new go to for building low end PCs to sell. It doesn't look as nice as some of the GTX 750 Ti's, GTX 660's, or other cards I've been getting, but it will work for the same price at lower power draw!
You answered your question at 2:10, Gt 1030 is for SFF and low PSU, which is why I bought one. So, no the RX 460 isn't going to kill the GT 1030. I looked at all the possible cards to meet my criteria, none did until the GT 1030 came out. What is it that 'UA-camrs' don't understand about the demographic the GT 1030 was designed for.
One thing I noticed from an eBay listing. The GPUs were packed in a box with MSI tape on it in what looked their original bulk anti static bag packaging. These cards are most likely an MSI OEM produced for HP. So these could be MSI overstock or something.
A faster card (on paper) that draws significantly more power than a slower card (on paper) performs better than the slower card...who’d have guessed? 🤷♂️
Hey, I have a question. I have a friend looking to get a PC for under $200. I recommended him a Dell Refurbished PC because he wanted to avoid used parts. I went to the website and found a Dell OptiPlex 9020 with an Intel Core i5-4570 @ 3.20 GHz. Do you think that and an RX 460 would be a good combination? If not, what would be a good system to pair the RX 460 with?
I knew this video would be about the RX 460 because I just bought two for $60 each. I got ones with the shrouds because they were slightly used, and about $5 cheaper than the OEM versions when I got them. Still I'm looking forward to sticking these in my $40 Optiplex i5s and seeing what they can do. Just waiting for new cases and power supplies.

Would you recommend using the RX 460 in a computer with a lower wattage power supply? My computer's power supply is only about 280 watts and doesn't even have 6 pin connectors. I'm looking for a decent graphics card that won't suck too much power. If I can't find one, I'm probably better off just replacing my power supply lol!
The way you think isnt quite correct. GTA V is more cpu demanding so therefore it will run better on a higher end cpu. Also 16gb of ram isnt realistic for the normal user of these cards. Some games favor more ram so tone that sown to 8gb so it is more friendly to the normal user of this card and also use something like a g4560 or a lower end i3 to get the most realistic results since even with a low end graphics card, this system in its current status could do good in a game no matter what
Okay so this video is amazing but keep in mind that AMD changed the way the PCI-E slot of the new cards. So the AMD card will have problems with any PCI-E under PCI-2.2 so keep that in mind. The GT 1030 doesn't have this problem. Just some info into the "compatibility"
@@NWA122A That's just not true... the 1050 has a clear performance advantage... it's not huge, but it is clearly better. The 750Ti sits roughly halfway between a 1030 and a 1050 in performance.
2:15 The gigabyte gt 1030 that i bought is a gen3 x4 pcie,in pcie gen 2 it still works in4x mode and it performs like crap,in gen 1 it would perform even crappier. If it was a x16 pci e card,it would might then have reasonable performance with older motherboards.
Hi Matt, what Low Profile graphics card would you recommend for a Dell 9020 optiplex SFF. Im running a i7-4790 cpu , 16 gig ram, but I think I will only be able to run with the 8 slot pci as the 16 slot is right next to the psu.
Lemme guess it's an oem Rx 460 that you found on eBay? Ya I've seen those, seen some for $45. I knew someone was gonna make a video on it, surprised it wasn't random gaming in hd, BBO or my second favorite nerd on a budget.
How is the power consumption? I recall in early reviews it can reach close to 100W. Even though RX 550 has a lower CU count and RX 460 used to be configured with low CU, the power consumption is drastically lower. Turns out RX 550 uses a different chip (Lexa) than RX 460 (Baffin)
i put a gt 1030 into my dell OptiPlex to edit videos better / faster and now i can emulate games and stream at same time i stream games from console through my pc and my streams are smooth now 200 for a optiplex and 140 for this card and im happy with low expectations no we wont play new games in high settings but that's okay with me its my first semi powerful PC
I don't think it would really be worth it, the 750 ti usually outperforms the 1030 by a little bit so going to the 460 wouldn't be that big of an upgrade. I would wait until you can get something a little more powerful like a 1050 or 1050 ti. (Assuming you want a card that only uses pcie slot power).
RX570 would probably be the cheapest worthy upgrade for you, in my oppinion. GTX 970 would be on par with that, but depends a lot of the deals you can get where you live. Sure, there are some in-between options, like GTX960/1050, but they are not that great of un upgrade.
Stick with your 750Ti or buy something stronger (1050Ti or higher). I found a used 1060-6GB for $130 off E-Bay... but no, going from a 750Ti to a 460 wouldn't be worth your time or money.

I put together a budget build home theater system with this hp rx 460 but I get no sould though the HDMI cable or Display port cable to the Monitor speakers (tested on multiple tv's too). Is this graphics card suppose to support audio through the hdmi and DP outputs?
Quick question, what settings exactly did you use on GTA 5? Because I have it on 1080p, everything low, and I get vastly lower than a 71 fps average. (about 32)
I got the 1030 and im pretty happy whit it. I mean, yes thr other GPU is better but i still wont upgrade so i can have 10-20 fps more. In the US parts for PCs are cheaper. Here in Germany that isnt the case. Sooo yeah...
Then you got the refresh AMD RX card. The 560 should be a bit better than the 460. As for CPU, I'd look at least a i5 or amd ryzen 1200 or even the 2200/2400g at minimum.
Unfortunately it's not an option for many, it uses over double the power than a GT 1030 75w vs 30w) and on a PC with only a 90w PSU higher wattage cards wouldn't do, and plus it's form factor won't fit in many prebuild SFF cases. I had to choose a card that was half height low profile and single slot (your gt 1030 being fanless is half height low profile but it's dual slot due to its larger heatsync).
I need to ask important question confusing me .. is msi gt 1030 which has display port can run 144 refresh rate monitor? Or is it locked on 60hz like HDMI? Please I need correct answer about that... ty
Damn. I sorta wish I had known about this when I just upgraded from a GT1030. Granted my RX 570 is a better performer, but it set me back 120USD rather than 60.
I used an 1030 for my friends kids pc and it was fine on low details or med to high on 720p they don't need much more but the rx 460 on that price point are very attractive and if it was available back when i build that pc (around a year ago)i would have most prob went for it.

Yo Fam, would a 1060 Low profile be the best bet to pair with a Q6650 lga 775, i want a powerful discreet gpu for a mame machine that will also play ps2 and gamecube fighting games
You didn't mention that this RX460 is stomping all over the GT1030 while only being a PCIe x8 card. Note that half the edge connector has no contacts on it. Check to see if that MSI GT1030 is running the full PCIe x16 bus or not.
so sad they didnt try to make this 460 a single slot model, it could be done i guess, it might worth still buy one and modify the cooler to fit for single slot use. Even passive if you take a good heatsink.
This would be the perfect card for an eGPU itx system paired with an Athalon 200ge and m.2 ssd!! Can you try to make a system powered with the 160 watt pico psu using the 200ge and RX 460? Could you benchmark the 460 with the 200ge vs a quad core CPU? Great find by the way!! :)
@@calvinreeder7580 I never said I wanted an external gpu dock. I said I wanted an ITX gaming pc that was powered by a pico power supply. The cheapest pico power supply is 160 watts and can be used with a 330 watt dell laptop brick. If you know what pico power supplies are you know they have been proven to run even a gtx 1060 in some cases. The Athalon 200ge only uses 35 wats and the GT 1030 only uses about 40 watts on full load during gaming. If you use an M.2 ssd for storage then you have an extremely low powered rig in the smallest package possible since you don't have to worry about a bulky atx or even sfx power supply. That is what I was trying to say. Never once did I ask about an external gpu. You could use a riser cable to lay teh gpu flat to make the rig low profile but a gt 1030 does come in a low profile variant so you could make or get a really small case. It would be very cheap too since the most expensive thing is the pico power supply and laptop charger power brick.
@@DoomWalker42 You said "This would be the perfect card for an eGPU itx system" eGPU means external GPU. I see now that you just misspoke, but this is a pretty cool idea. Although an even better way to do ultra low power gaming would be a quad or hexacore Intel T series processor (7700T, 8800T). 35w TDP and much better performance! Much more expensive, though
better yet, as a $20 - $30 alternative get a amd/dell r7 450 2gb gddr5. I think the same thing happend with X5690's.Someone bought old Servers and sold the CPUs.
I got a new OEM gtx 750ti for $47 free shipping on ebay. It was a great investment for a super cheap yet reasonably capable gpu.
the gt 1030 supports up to 4K 60fps HEVC and VP9 so if you are looking for a graphic card for a multi media pc setup (like I was) it is the best choice.
I bought this card almost 1 year ago, and i love it. It hasn't let me down.
I still have it 4 years later, I used it so much to play a lot of games and it's finally time to let it go, just have to find a candidate at a decent budget but this 460 will always have a place in my heart.
Cool little card. I like it. But only for a good deal x)
i actually bought this card about 3 weeks ago for $65. perfect for my htpc.
I got a RX 460 4GB Sapphire Nitro for 30€ from a friend. A great upgrade from my Vega 11 1240mhz!
Great vid. I've ran into issues with dell oem's great card for light 1080p gaming.
thanks for your contribution : D
You can get 760s for under $70, 770s under $90, Rx 470/570s under $100 usually. Even some 290/x under $100. Those are all pretty good for the $$
Yeah I got an rx 470 for $64 a few weeks ago. Going used is the way to go IMO, but a lot of people only want new components.
GTX 650Ti and 750Ti are cheap alternatives, GTX 950 aswell
You answered your question at 2:10, Gt 1030 is for SFF and low PSU, which is why I bought one. So, no the RX 460 isn't going to kill the GT 1030. I looked at all the possible cards to meet my criteria, none did until the GT 1030 came out. What is it that 'UA-camrs' don't understand about the demographic the GT 1030 was designed for.
The fact that the 1030 was entirely passive was basically the only reason it ended up in my parents' HTPC.
Try the gigabyte Gt 1030 Gddr5 ...it is a powerful beast .
Better drivers
Hey, I have a question. I have a friend looking to get a PC for under $200. I recommended him a Dell Refurbished PC because he wanted to avoid used parts. I went to the website and found a Dell OptiPlex 9020 with an Intel Core i5-4570 @ 3.20 GHz. Do you think that and an RX 460 would be a good combination? If not, what would be a good system to pair the RX 460 with?
Rx460 is always priority, even if it was 75$ and Gt 1030 was 50$ ... its double the power
Update: Turns out I'm only waiting on drives and power supplies now. cases just got here today!
Huh.. im subbed, yet Why don't I watch this channel more often? Good content
Incomprehensible video
Just bought one of these, i'll edit this when I get it and see how it goes.
(one week later) hoo, this is a very good card for the price. pick one up
Guys if you really want to upgrade your gpu OR Build you might want to follow my solutions
If you want to upgrade GPU's (Budget ones)
#1 - GTX 1030 GDDR5 (Not really strong but you can get one for like 40-50-60 dollars on Ebay
#2 - The value king AMD RX 470 its really strong ( 70-100 dollars on ebay)
#3 - GTX 1050 ti (Its really really good but kind of overpriced , 100-200 dollars on ebay)
#4 - GTX 960 4GB GDDR5 (its the best choice for budget builds , better than a 1050 , similar to a gtx 1050 ti) (50-100 dollars on ebay)
#5 - GTX 1060 3GB This is not a budget card , but a really good one, better than any gpu on this list (50-300 dollars on ebay)
If you want to build a pc try this Custom build my friend told me about (Budget)

im glad i use my ryzen 3 2200g as my first build
the benchmarck from passmark show almost identical to gt 1030 ddr4 but alittle bit lower
a fair comparasion maybe with the vega 11 from 2400g but i overclock my ram and gpu to 1350mhz and nearly match the gt 1030 performance
good video tho
Would you recommend using the RX 460 in a computer with a lower wattage power supply? My computer's power supply is only about 280 watts and doesn't even have 6 pin connectors. I'm looking for a decent graphics card that won't suck too much power. If I can't find one, I'm probably better off just replacing my power supply lol!
The way you think isnt quite correct. GTA V is more cpu demanding so therefore it will run better on a higher end cpu. Also 16gb of ram isnt realistic for the normal user of these cards. Some games favor more ram so tone that sown to 8gb so it is more friendly to the normal user of this card and also use something like a g4560 or a lower end i3 to get the most realistic results since even with a low end graphics card, this system in its current status could do good in a game no matter what
I got my RX580 4gig for about 85 bucks from a desperate miner. Such an improvement over my old R7370.
Compare this with 750ti and the 1050 non ti ...
Gtx 1050
Rx 460
Gtx 750ti
Gt 1030
Get the Rx 460, the 1050 is much more expensive used, and you only get at most 5-10% more
the 750 ti = gtx 1050 same performance !
@@NWA122A no
@@NWA122A Not even close
@@NWA122A That's just not true... the 1050 has a clear performance advantage... it's not huge, but it is clearly better. The 750Ti sits roughly halfway between a 1030 and a 1050 in performance.
2:15
The gigabyte gt 1030 that i bought is a gen3 x4 pcie,in pcie gen 2 it still works in4x mode and it performs like crap,in gen 1 it would perform even crappier.
I got the RX 460 and man it was worth it!
Can you unlock the 460's SP's as well? Slight performance increase if you can.
Turns out RX 550 uses a different chip (Lexa) than RX 460 (Baffin)
i put a gt 1030 into my dell OptiPlex to edit videos better / faster and now i can emulate games and stream at same time
i stream games from console through my pc and my streams are smooth now
200 for a optiplex and 140 for this card and im happy with low expectations
no we wont play new games in high settings but that's okay with me its my first semi powerful PC
Hi, you have not taken into account the power consumption vs performance?, today energy efficiency is important
I'm currently using a 750ti and I'm thinking this really wouldn't provide huge improvement, any opinions?
just buy a used gtx 970 or 960. Dont spend your earned money for anything less. (thats what i would do^^)
I don't think it would really be worth it, the 750 ti usually outperforms the 1030 by a little bit so going to the 460 wouldn't be that big of an upgrade. I would wait until you can get something a little more powerful like a 1050 or 1050 ti. (Assuming you want a card that only uses pcie slot power).
yup definitely stick with the 750ti. if you really plan on upgrading go for the atleast the 1060 or the amd equivalent.
Only thing is the 1030 will fit in small cases. But that is a sweet card !!
Why you didn't brenchmark Fortnite or PUBG via replay feature. It will produce good results...
Hello my friend... i need your opinion about my pc...if you can help me...I got an old PC Dell T3400 its got 375w power suply Q6600 procesor, 4 GB of DDR2 ram, +SSD 120gb + HDD 350gb, and i just got fixed my GPU, its GTX570 from GYGABITE, (gv-n570oc-13i v2.0) and i actually run this GPU proper fine. Can i be awared of some problems later on? cuz my GPU needs 600w and my pc is 375.....please answer me....Thankyou....Like
I put together a budget build home theater system with this hp rx 460 but I get no sould though the HDMI cable or Display port cable to the Monitor speakers (tested on multiple tv's too). Is this graphics card suppose to support audio through the hdmi and DP outputs?
Quick question, what settings exactly did you use on GTA 5? Because I have it on 1080p, everything low, and I get vastly lower than a 71 fps average. (about 32)
What CPU do you have?
I got the 1030 and im pretty happy whit it. I mean, yes thr other GPU is better but i still wont upgrade so i can have 10-20 fps more. In the US parts for PCs are cheaper. Here in Germany that isnt the case. Sooo yeah...
Nice to know back then the GT 1030 used to be 2 digits but i bought my Zotac 1030 for 175$ !?
What CPU would go best with this GPU. I have the same, but it is listed as an AMD RX 560 2GB.
Then you got the refresh AMD RX card. The 560 should be a bit better than the 460.
As for CPU, I'd look at least a i5 or amd ryzen 1200 or even the 2200/2400g at minimum.
@@madmax2069 yeah I was thinking a 2200g to avoid bottlenecking. Any am4 spu suggestions?
The prebuilds got sold in bulk and those people strip them for parts and sold them seperatly.
In GTA V What do you mean by Mid settings.Theres Normal,High And Very High setting. So High?Or a mix of some and which ones
Watching the vid and noticed the pcie contacts on the card aren’t fully populated so I’m guessing it’s running at 8x vs 16x?
Do the RX 460's work with custom builds?
Shot an SAPPHIRE Radeon RX 460 2GB GDDR5 PCI-E HDMI / DVI-D / DP OC (UEFI) for 54€ or arround 60$ with shipping its a good deal think it was with all equipment in the Box. (good deal?)
No SFF option, it might not be an option for some out there..
Not in the UK ecomes a big difference with Import Taxes. Typical HP!
Why would you want an external GPU on an ultra-budget rig? External GPU docks are expensive as HELL.
@@DoomWalker42 You said "This would be the perfect card for an eGPU itx system"
eGPU means external GPU.
Gt 1030 has: r7 450 has:
384 cores 512
24 tmus 32
16 rops 16
64 bus width 128
as a poor kid with a dell optiplex, ima ask for an r7 450 for christmas. Sure the rx 460 is better than both of these in almost every way, but for half the price the performance is amazing
*note i forgot to mention its only $30 used, my bad
