Good video mate! When I went shopping in June 2018 the DDR4 version was already out (released sometime in Mar 2018) and I was careful to get the Zotac GT 1030 GDDR5 LP. It does great mate. I've had mine (gddr5 1030) paired up with a Pentium G4560 (2c4t) and it's been doing amazing. It plays every game I own at over 60fps if you adjust the settings. Games that I play consist of Rocket League, CSGO, GTA V, Fortnite, Crysis 1/2/3, Rise of the Tomb raider, War thunder, Battlefield 4/1 and Anthem and more. All of these play with over 60fps and it's great! Then again, I don't play any of the games he benchmarked so I don't know how well it would play them...
@@jcp_247 i had that same cpu and while it was playable on those games you mentioned, you can't believe how much more stable frames got when moving to the r5 3600 which is what I did. Your video led me to watch NJ Tech's comparison of a GT 730 GDDR5 vs GT 1030 DDR4 (and GT 1030 GDDR5), which sees the 730 coming consistently AHEAD of the DDR4 1030 in games.. Pretty crazy. The price of this DDR4 1030 needs to be less then that of a GDDR5 730 at least!
I bought a DDR5 version a month ago to go along with my Q6600 CPU and it's fine for a bunch of older games in my steam library that I haven't played yet.
What is really surprising is that 10xx series from Nvidia aged really well. Those cards are still pretty good choice for gaming on the budget. As you pointed, for some of them you should keep you expectation realistic.
Its not really surprising. They are Nvidias longest selling generation. So a LOT of people have them. Which means that basicaly every game was, still is and will be optimized to run on those cards until things change.
Ah GT 1030... The passive card I bought for an Optiplex years ago for 70 bucks, hollowed out an OG Xbox 1 case, slapped it in and still works great 720p low/med even now.
One "trick" I've used for lower than 60fps but higher than. 30fps smooth gameplay is to lock the framerate max for a specific game go 48fps -- Double film framerate, the card can maintain this very well without frame dips and it's much smoother than playing at 30 fps -- give it a shot seriously.

MSI labeled their passively cooled DDR4 card "OC Edition"? The nerve... how much higher is the clock rate of this card in comparison? My recommendation would be the ZOTAC GT 1030 w GDDR5. They include a low-profile bracket, the card remains relatively quiet under load and it does overclock like a little champ, you can safely crank up the core clock by 150 MHz, the memory clock by 300 MHz and gain between 5 and 10% higher frame rates, depending on the title.

surprised by the GDDR5 1030. Yesterday, I tried playing King of Fighters XIV - the game's gpu requirement is GTX 950 or anything stronger. The GT 1030 was able to run KOF XIV at 900p without any lag, and I had fun playing. :)
I just picked up an open box GT 1030 for $92. I have 0 plans on using it for modern gaming. It's going in the living room hooked up to an older LCD TV with all the streaming apps and some retro emulators installed. I feel like I got a decent value considering 730s near me were going for around $70-80.
Loved seeing this comparison! It's unfortunate that some people end up buying the wrong card not knowing there even was a difference.. P.S. Not sure how often you check your business email, but I sent a question there anyway.
With all the chip shortages I’m gonna have to start recommending the 1030 to my friends who want to get into PC gaming since that’s one of the few GPUs here in Belgium that’s selling at (near) MSRP. Although at that point I might as well tell them to stick to their PS4s for the time being.
Hey there I was wondering if you could do a similar video to this but this time using an older monitor of 19" or 17" 1280x1040. Set the gpu scaling to aspect ratio and then set the resolution to 1280x720 and see what kind of fps you get with, with more modern games. Its a video by Phils Computer Lab already but I feel like you could give it a try as well, or an update on how this works, and what kind of fps are we looking at now.
Video idea - with the market this bad - is there a way you can analyze the chance of failure of something like a 750 or 970. Could help people's purchasing decisions.
Basically accidently bought a DDR4 Version because i desperately needed a GPU for my second pc, because the seller on ebay didnt make it all that clear that it was a DDR4 version until i looked very closely at the pictures and did some research, but i mean i cant complain yet since it was quite cheap, I've only seen benchmarks and i dont even have the card yet
I personally think the GT 1030 DDR4 Version is not that bad, yeah it's horrible compared to the ddr5 one but for people on a budget and wanting a first GPU to start with, I think its fine.
Just threw together a test system, mostly to verify a Z590 board I bought for chump change works. For now, it has a Celeron G5900, 2 pieces of 8GB, a Team Group M.2 SSD and a DDR5 1030. I must say, with the three games I've tried, it's not quite terrible. Running at 1080 and basically everything on medium, Stray, What Remains Of Edith Finch and Classic Racers all run... usably well. Stray is slightly stuttery but not terrible. What Remains even works pretty well at 1440. Obviously these are not active games. I might give Far Cry 3 or GTA V a try and I'd expect to have to drop to 720. I must say, the passive cooler is VERY quiet!
Little late to the party but I was unfortunate and after accidentally buy a preowned ddr4 version, fortunately the next day I was able to get a gddr5 version, I did pay the same price for both of them $50 AUD
Like I wanna buy a PC now that has i5 10400f but also has [VGA GeForce GT 1030 OC 2GB DDR4] I mostly play CPU based games so I think it's worth to get it and replace later with 1050/60 ?
I use the GDDR5 version on an old screen 1280x1024 and games with that resolution or 1280x960. Even though most games don't support 5:4 or 4:3, you should also consider comapring uncommon resolutions.
Gosh, 80-90 Pounds... I am still happy that I bought a used XFX Radeon RX460 (4GB, passive cooling), for about half the price, and more than a year ago! But, have to say, surprised about the perfomance of the GDDR5 version.
used to play on core 2 quad and gt 730. worked well on all games and only started suffering on mad max when it ran 20 to 30 fps even at minimum settings. and the supported driver was too old for nfs payback. the core 2 quad wasnt even set on turbo mode because we didnt have enough cooling at that time. although turbo + overclock makes minimal difference cpu is still 100% in newer games lol.
Oddly in Australia, the Get 1030 is pretty inflated. I originally bought mine ~3 years ago for $80AUD and now majority are going for between $130 and $150 AUD. I then upgraded to a 1650 super at the end of last year and just missed the boom in pricing and got it for more than $150 cheaper than they're selling right now.
I’d be interested to see this things in a shoot out using only the kinds of games and programs someone would really run on it. Super low end systems. A gpu for older games, etc. if you are playing games from the early 2000s how much is that gddr5 really gonna matter? Also how low do you have to downclock the gddr5 to match the performance of the ddr4 variant??
I believe in games from that era integrated Intel GPUs would fare even better as modern drivers would make most games unstartable. Source: personal experience.
It works very well for older games as well as newer ones. I can run Borderlands 3 on it at a moderately stable 30-40fps even with a 12 year old CPU. Witcher 3 works good too, as do older games like the old Borderlands, Fallout 3 / NV, TES Oblivion (if you can get it to run at all), Skyrim and Skyrim Special Edition, the old CoD games like the OG Modern Warfare, Half Life 2... I could go on, but yeah. All games I've run successfully with good framerates on a GDDR5 GT1030

DDR4 1030? I was out in the garage looking for SATA cables a few days ago and came across a DDR3 730 I bought from Fry's right before they closed. I almost stuck it in a friend's PC I was working on, but realized his i7-8700 iGPU was probably noticeably faster.
In this particular case, it's about bandwidth. The GDDR5 version has 40GB/s of memory bandwidth, while the DDR4 version has like 16GB/s of bandwidth. So the memory system on the GDDR5 version is about 2.5x as fast. That's why the DDR4 version gets like 1/2 the rendering speed in many games. It's extremely starved for memory bandwidth.

Do a RX 550 vs Radeon 550. There is no content about it on the internet. I just found a Russian video on that topic.
They seem to be the same card both with 1.2 tflops of compute power
This is like watching your little brother grinding to reach lvl.20 while you're chilling at lvl.100
Come to think of it, 720p is just peachy. That's what I always game on; don't need more than that imo. I thank you, RGHD for all these fun comparison videos.

Just pronounce it Gt 1030(and not 10-30 like some people do)
But how does it fare these days paired up with a Pentium ?...
Why do we not get your annual Pentium G3258 reviews anymore ??
G4560 was a good budget cpu. Its time Intel give it the good reputation it deserves and evolve it into a 4 core 4 thread part minimum, maybe with the new architecture and node.
Because a 2 core 2 thread CPU has been below the minimum requirements for newer more popular titles for a few years now. No point testing if the CPU won't boot the game.
@@davidnguyen1622 Yeah, I'm currently saving up but also building a homelab which is fun. Overall though, there's nothing either my Pentium or servers don't do so I don't feel the need to upgrade just yet though, but it's definitely an idea!

FSR might be game changing for GPUs like this! Maybe you could revisit the GDDR5 version with that in the future?
Wow, that GDDR5 one really is a beast... According to TechPowerUp you can put a couple hundred of em in SLI and have an RTX 3090...

Weird to think that you’re at almost 500k subs remember when you had 40k. Keep up the great work!

Ive purchased a couple of the GDDR5 version to put into some light gaming computers to try and keep the costs down as here in Australia they retail around $129 to $169 AUD which is way too high atm and unfortunately as you say some retailers are'nt highlighting that they are GDDR4 and people are being burnt with these cards ..the low profile versions are beneficial for putting into the small form factor HP , Dells and Lenovo computers..Atm here in Aust we have to pay around $429 for the low profile 1650 which was $239 some 6 months ago.

Hey, long time viewer here!
I was wondering if you’d consider bringing back the subscriber build reviews as a 1-year anniversary?

I mostly play CPU based games so I think it's worth to get it and replace later with 1050/60 ?
I use the GDDR5 version on an old screen 1280x1024 and games with that resolution or 1280x960. Even though most games don't support 5:4 or 4:3, you should also consider comapring uncommon resolutions.
Gosh, 80-90 Pounds... I am still happy that I bought a used XFX Radeon RX460 (4GB, passive cooling),
for about half the price, and more than a year ago!
But, have to say, surprised about the perfomance of the GDDR5 version.
Would this card be fine for Adobe After Effects and Premier Pro?
as a lower end card gt1030 aged quite well, a lot of people here still buy this for gaming
It is a really really good option for upgrading old sff builds for cheap
used to play on core 2 quad and gt 730. worked well on all games and only started suffering on mad max when it ran 20 to 30 fps even at minimum settings. and the supported driver was too old for nfs payback. the core 2 quad wasnt even set on turbo mode because we didnt have enough cooling at that time. although turbo + overclock makes minimal difference cpu is still 100% in newer games lol.
I'd still be using a Core 2 Quad if it had AVX support
Oddly in Australia, the Get 1030 is pretty inflated. I originally bought mine ~3 years ago for $80AUD and now majority are going for between $130 and $150 AUD. I then upgraded to a 1650 super at the end of last year and just missed the boom in pricing and got it for more than $150 cheaper than they're selling right now.
Yeah prices are still insane
It would be fun to undervolt those cards to see how efficient you could make them
I’d be interested to see this things in a shoot out using only the kinds of games and programs someone would really run on it.
@@vansz153 From those I've tried one half has visual glitches that make them unplayable and other half just refuses to start. Yes, you can workaround it with dgvoodo and/or changes in settings files but in hassle free experience Intel iGPUs beat any modern GPU. At least in my experience.

The gap is so wide, it really shows how much memory plays a role in graphical power even on lower end hardware.
