I don't think it had to do anything with price (or may be it did a bit). My speculation is that main reason Officer Byrd wasn't approached was that Judy wanted her grand daughter to be launched who is an unknown face, a newcomer. So on Judge Judy, Judy is the main star and after her Officer Byrd gets all the attention, so is he is there Judy's grand daughter won't be getting the kind of traction Judy may have wanted her to get. I don't know... its a far fetched theory, but seems a like a reason to me Judy won't ask him to return, because as they say... family comes first.

That's probably more "it" than anything else. Judy REALLY wanted her granddaughter to be a part of the show, and maybe she thought Byrd, after being around for 25 years, might "compete" with the presence of her granddaughter, even though in a lot of episodes, Byrd didn't really do or say much. The NEW bailiff REALLY doesn't say or do much, and that's probably by design. I miss Byrd being there, but the new show has its appeal, as Judy has the granddaughter on the internet checking on stuff while the trial is going, and I kind of like the after-trial discussions that they have. And I KNOW Judy likes that.

@@silkrtf Judge Judy does not own or have any involvement in directing or producing the show. She is just an employee and nothing more. Those type of hiring decisions are made by TV Executives. For whatever reason, the TV Execuives decided to go in a different direction and hire someone else.
Byrd had a long run (25 years) in which he got paid over $1 million dollars per year, as a bailiff on the TV Show. Prior to that he was a High School Guidance Counselor and a Court Officer. The man has worked over 50 years and is in his 70s. He is financially better off than 99% of Americans. He can literally live off the interest of all of his investments.
My friend's son is a 12 year old Dwarf that can juggle bowling pins while he rides a unicycle and he can do back-flips as well. He could bring a lot more to the Judge Judy show than Byrd, and he would be more than happy to work for 1/10th of what Byrd was making.

It's funny how Byrd conveniently left out that Judge Judy offered his wife (who was a producer on Judge Judy at one time) a job as producer on her new show and his wife declined due to her medical condition.
Yeah, very funny Byrd conveniently omits that from his sob story.
Sorry, but it's Byrd who comes off shady. Judge Judy gave him a 25 year career (and financial stability for a quarter of a century) on a silver platter.
She owes him NOTHING. You get that?? If anyone should be grateful, it should be Byrd - for the job she literally gave him 25 yrs ago that elevated his income and lifestyle and broadened and provided him a whole new avenue of opportunities.
But of course he's not grateful, he's instead an entitled "victim".
His story doesn't even make sense and he contradicts himself every other sentence.
He claims they weren't friends, just "friendly".
Yet then he says he has her personal cell phone number and that when he calls her on it, she answers immediately as she always does - his words.
Then he claims his relationship with her is equivalent to what the mail clerk at Microsoft would have with Bill Gates.
Really?? I doubt the mail clerk has Bill Gates personal cellphone number.
Then, again, he conveniently leaves out that his wife (who was once a producer on Judge Judy) was personally offered a job as producer on Judy's new show by Judge Judy herself.
He claims that at the final taping of the last Judge Judy episode, nothing was said to him about the new show
Byrd again conveniently leaves out the fact that Judge Judy was NOT even there in person at the studio. Due to Covid, Judge Judy appeared via satellite video feed from NEW YORK while Byrd and the plaintiffs/defendants were at the L.A. studio being filmed - and all the interaction between Byrd, the defendants/plaintiffs, and Judge Judy was all through live video satellite feed.
So how did Judy ignore him???? She wasn't even there in person!!!
He himself says that the very next day after the last episode was taped, his wife had neurosurgery for her brain tumor. And he didn't bother to call Judge Judy for another 2-3 months, which by that time the new show already started production.
Yeah, of course Byrd-brain conveniently leaves all that out.
Easier to play the victim these days. In modern society, victimhood has become a sort of social currency. Everyone is a victim

His contract ended in the show ended. His wife was also a producer on the show. If you go and listen to some his other interviews she didn't tell him about the new show from what he said. He found out about the new show and contacted her. Her granddaughter Judy and someone else put this new show together and they wanted to have fresh new energy. This man made a great deal of money he had 25 years of experience he's old nothing more. With that being said she could have contacted him and gave him a heads-up so he wouldn't have been blindsided. At the end of the day I don't feel sorry for him. Some people are in our lives for a moment a season and a lifetime. They had a working business relationship nothing more nothing less. He's coming off as being entitled listen to some of the statements that he put out in the other interviews. Plus all of this attention he's been offered some new opportunities he should take that and milk that for what it's worth. When it's time to move on you can't take the same energy in the same people with you everywhere you go it's just not going to work.
She wasn't even there in person???
He himself says that the very next day after the last episode was taped, his wife had neurosurgery for her brain tumor. And he didn't bother to call Judge Judy for another 2-3 months, which by that time the new show already started production.
Yeah, of course Byrd-brain conveniently leaves all that out.
Easier to play the victim these days. In modern society, victimhood has become a sort of social currency. Everyone is a victim

@@CeeJay611 maybe you should look at Byrd side eyed instead.
She wasn't even there in person???
He himself says that the very next day after the last episode was taped, his wife had neurosurgery for her brain tumor. And he didn't bother to call Judge Judy for another 2-3 months, which by that time the new show already started production.
Yeah, of course Byrd-brain conveniently leaves all that out.
Easier to play the victim these days. In modern society, victimhood has become a sort of social currency. Everyone is a victim

As a law student, you should know better than anyone there's something called nuance and three sides to every story. If you even watched the show the past 10 years, you'd know Byrd has mentally checked out of his job long ago. He's always playing crossword puzzles, is constantly irritable and gruff with the litigants, and barely engaged with the Judge when asked questions or to share any quips. Why would any employer continue to pay a tenured bailiff a million dollars a year who can't even fake enjoying his job when they can get a person much younger, more engaged, and cheaper? It's just business. And he's not entitled to be employed. Now granted, I will give you that Judith should have at least called him. That's the respectful thing to do after a working relationship for many years. But even that's not guaranteed. And that's no reason to badmouth your former employer. Byrd is hurt. However, no one knows what conversations they had over the years. Judge Judy's new show was years in the making. I'm sure he had an opportunity to speak to her about any changes . I've watched the show for many years. It was reported about the wonderful work he was doing in his community - sounds like he was giving back. However, when I watched the show I kept wondering why he always seemed so annoyed when he had to walk twice to pick up evidence in cases. He really did not seem glad to be there. I wish him well in whatever his new journey is. I wish Judge Judy well in her new show. No job is promised. Anyone who has a job may face losing a job. Even Judge Judy will be off the air someday.

Byrd used the 'I am easily annoyed' expression all the time, but mostly, as you said, when walking back and forth with papers. This was to project authority, so the audience would not get carried away by the lights and cameras and misbehave. The other less apparent reason was that he had almost nothing to do most of the time, and acting 'manly' was a psychological defensive thing (the same way men act 'cool' when they are literally burning time doing nothing).

@@Welshy There was a famous sitcom that had one profound line in all the episodes. From memory, it occurred in the first couple of episodes. It was the start of the education year for some high school, and most everyone was enrolled, except for one cool dude who hung outside with his motorbike, wearing leathers and leaning sideways, killing time, etc. He was asked by one of the students, 'It must be great to be so cool?' The dude answered: "I have to act cool because I don't have the grades to enroll in class."

I love Byrd and held Judge Judy in high regard. Heck, I've been watching the show for 25 years. I am so disappointed in her disregard for Byrd. It's not always what you do but how you do it Judge Judy. You really should call Byrd. Nothing new will succeed unless you do. 💯

  • @cynthiaprice3528

They are basically paying Kevin less than they would have had to pay Bryd. That's how he priced himself out, and to offer him anything less than what he was making would have been an insult. Also, a new show means sometimes moving on to a new way of doing things, new fresh faces, and concepts. The new show has four people instead of two one being her grand-daughter, and they are younger people with different perspectives. I don't think it was nothing personal to Byrd, he just wasn't right for this particular theme of the show. As he said they were nothing more than co-workers, so she didn't owe him anything. I saw Byrd on Law and Order the other night; I think he should just keep acting.
