  • Soba is a type of thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour. It is served either chilled with a dipping sauce, or in hot broth as a noodle soup. Moreover, it is common in Japan to refer to any thin noodle as soba in contrast to udon . It takes three months for buckwheat to be ready for harvest, so it can be harvested four times a year, mainly in spring, summer, and autumn.
In Japan, soba noodles are served in a variety of settings: they are a popular inexpensive fast food at train stations throughout Japan, but are also served by exclusive and expensive specialty restaurants. Markets sell dried noodles and men-tsuyu, or instant noodle broth, to make home preparation easy.

    テキストとCDは持っていましたが動画を探していました。
    ワサビをごっちゃリ入れて蕎麦をジャブジャブに浸して食べるなんてヘンテコな食べ方を好むというのは彼独特のユーモアなのでしょう。

Personally I found this to be very interesting and information. That may have something to do with my desire to understand more about soba, customs around eating it and comparisons with Western eating ways.

@PasswordOVER9000 I think they cropped this video off of a learn-English-TV-program for japanese people, I have seen such programs here in my country, they sound forced because they speak slowly to emphasize pronounciation, and the japanese subtitles translate what they are saying. greetings! :)

I heard that in Japan it's very rude to put a used chopstick back into the shared serving platter. If you want something, you should use the end of the chopstick that didn't touch your mouth to grab it and put it on your own plate. But in this vid at :40 it looks like everybody is sticking their used chopsticks back into the communal dish. Isn't that unsanitary?

+CopyKid I actually found the "bad acted"-ness cute, brings a casual, light and humorous tinge to the show -- whereas 99% of other shows are acted seriously and are all just the same as such.

When I watch America eats ramen without sounds in order to be so classy, I feel so eerie. It's hard to explain, so weird.
Hey, America, it is not time to be so pretentious!! It's time to taste the delicacy the best way. You are not eating macaroni & cheese here!

Dishes deliciously eating "vegetables and fish and rice" with miso, soy sauce, sake, mirin and soup is the origin of Japanese cuisine (^ ^)
