  • In today’s video, we're going to find out the best brand of Flexible Trowels. But all the power is in your hands!
I ran a survey on my UA-cam channel where I asked YOU what your favourite brand of Flexi trowels. I’ve been collecting the results for the past week and we finally have a winner.
Flexible trowels are a massive thing for the majority of plasterers and it now seems like everyone has one! But the big question is which one is the best!
    So the choices were between:
    1. Marshalltown
    2. Refina
    3. Nela
    4. Ox
    5. Other
These were the choices everyone had.
The results were very surprising for me but the winner was clear with a massive 40% win. Nearly half of you voted for the winner which means it was a unanimous decision!
So to find out the winner for yourself keep watching and let us know what you think.

Hi, been watching your videos. I'm a property developer not a full time plasterer but been plastering for 12 years. Been doing it the traditional way. After watching decided to use your ideas. Bought a Refina speed skim, Refina superflex 2 and a sponge float. Brilliant! Doubled my work rate and much better job as well. Thanks a lot- Pete

When something works for you it's hard to change. I'm a perfectionist. My plastering is not the best but compared to some of the stuff I see it's good. After watching you I decided to give your technique a go. I was very apprehensive. There was no real learning curve. I did a boarded ceiling and a couple of walls that were artexed. Then i did a lathe and plaster ceiling where we scraped the artex off. In a bad state loads of cracks, dipping down and a big sunken old repair a metre square. Was truly astonished to flatten out with the speed skim, second coat, sponge and flatten. Done and cleaned up in 2 hours can't see the old repair, looks brilliant! Thanks again!

Hi, I’ve just picked up the refina plazi flex today. Is this for final polish on semi dry plaster?
It is not my full time job but I have plastered my whole house now including the ceilings. I have converted the garage recently and now got to skim about 60-70m2 of plasterboard. I have not done plastering for about 6 years, until last week. The finish was ok, but not up to the quality I had done previously. I’m skimming plaster and felt the plaster was going off to quick on 10m2 wall. I layered the first in about 10-15mins and layered flat with Ox 1.2M speed skim (great tool by the way). Normally I then wait for the soft cheese feel until putting on the second but found myself laying it on shortly after. The final result was ok but would of liked it better. Had to touch up a few lines (created by the speed skim) and drags. I’m hoping the refina plaziflex will resolve this over the weekend.
    Excellent channel

Hi, thanks for your excellent videos.
Do you use a different set of trowels for rendering or are they the same for plastering.
Thanks keep up the good info.

Nela flex for me just because it feels good.. I'm a beginner and after watching your course with all the tips. I was shocked how good the wall turned out.. I've done a few patches in the past and I couldn't get the right finish with just a standard trowel. If someone saw all the trowels and speedskims I have purchased they would think I'm a professional plasterer :-)

I would base that result on the availibility of these trowels. You can walk into any builders basically and the stick refina. Ive only heard of a couple of merchants that stick Nela. Everyone i know (myself included) have ordered their Nelas online. And most plasterers are sceptical of ordering offline because we like to eye the trowell up before buying. Ive had a nela since tuesday and its already my favorite... the handle is immense

My local supplier has just stocked out with Ox tools so I think you're going to see them a lot more widely used now. I've used a Nela for about 3 years but have just switched to the Speedskim system and added an Ox flexi to the collection.
I've just dry lined a job of 600m2 and with ceilings it's over 900m2 of skimming so they're going to get a good workout and I'll soon know if they're up to the task 😀

    • @andygreen1677
      @andygreen1677 4 роки тому +1

Ross Johnson not tried the Ox but I'd say pick it up, give it a try and if it feels good in the hand you'll be good to go. Might have a look at one myself now you've said that as my current hawk has started to wear after tons of use. Might keep that for dabbing and get a new one for skimming but like anything with plastering, and as is mentioned on this channel, it's bound to feel strange until it's broken in 👍

Very good topic and I liked the winner
For me the Refina works really well flattens and not sore on the arms and so do the rest.! but we're the Refina wins it was early into the market very competitively priced and the one were it beats the Nela is that's it's a lot more robust ....drop or hit the Nela it's bent whereas the Refina no problems as long as it's not from a great height....the OX was a bit slow to the market as was Marshalltown ..... Marshalltowns next mistake was to make the trowel to pricey next to the Refina,.. a trowel that was already working very well ... just my tuppence worth
