This video shows how to do the Start of Injection on the "VE" class of TDI engines. VCDS has an app that shows a real time reading of the Start of Injection for these engines.

Moral of the story: Make teensy weensy adjustments to begin with. It's an adjustment bolt, not a bow saw.
My learning curve needs to go on that graph!
Great info! 👍🏻
would be nice to make an video to start injection checking with new 2.0 tdi on uds module.
Excellent video and information dear mate. Keep up nice work. Regards,
Old school..I thought you where going to set the timing by ear.
Im a newbie with vw cars, I need help, I have 99 vw golf 1.9 tdi I replace injector pump did the timing belt etc..., I need to set the timing on the pump , first question how can i do this what software do i need where to get it free or cheep, where do i download it for free I herd i can just buy the cable software free? please help. i seen video on vcds but never used it, dont know where to start to set up software ... lots video using software... no video on how to get started with software.
What if you cant start the car? How do you check then?
Before you start make marks to have old settings
There's a matching set of lock holes on the pump and pulley flange that line up (using a 6 mm pin, I think). Bring the engine close to piston 1 TDC, loosen the pulley bolts, rotate the pump until the lock pin slips in, then bring the engine exactly to TDC and then tighten the 3 pulley bolts and remove the lock pin.
This pre-adjustment is close enough to get the engine running.
@@MarcusRoper171 I am also having trouble, Brand new engine, can't seem to keep the car running. it starts for a few seconds and then dies.
@@BlayneBriceno-j8l If the engine starts, even for a short time, then I don't think pump timing is your problem. But just to confirm, you can try to retard or advance the pump just a *tiny* amount. If that doesn't change things, then you definitely know that the problem is somewhere else.
@@MarcusRoper171 I have been messing with it quite a bit. I Advanced it a little and nothing changed, maybe I'll try and retard it and see what that does. I've read that there are a few different sensors, my asv is open, not stuck at all.
I have thé same problem on my car and it makes exactly the same noise what I have to do thanks you
Excellent video. I tried this on my Audi A4 B7 2.0 L TDI PD, but the VCDS doesn't show the option of going to group 000 and TDI Timing. I would like to check my timing as well.

PD engines dont need injection timing adjustments. They dont have any mechanical distributor type pumps to adjust and injection timing is fully adjusted by ECU.
Mine is a little bit above the green?
great tip. Can u tell me how i can check and corect timing on vag gasoline engines, like 1.8 monopoint in Vento/Golf.... or 1.6 engine with 101hp also in golf or seat cordoba/toledo...
Can ACV T4 2.5 TDI be fixed with the exact same procedure?
Does this apply for the 2.5tdi? I can't find the drop down menu on graph
can you do that just using the dial caliper method or do you need the software for that?
u need vcds for see the elexact timmingi and taiming of pump
What's the torque setting for the 13mm sprocket bolts?
25 Nm
@@RossTechVCDS Thanks
Does this work with 1Y (1.9SD) engine as well?
what those units means? (60 - 90 etc). It is 60 -> 6.0 deg?
Old question but if someone is wondering: Lift of the injection pump in mm*100 when in tdc position. So 60 on screen means 0,60 mm.
What if u can't start the car at all?
i did basic settings for afb engine 2.5 , the two yellow became between the red and yellow and fault code 00555 appeared again,
Thats not start of injection, is the quanity.
Basic setyings group 001. 3rd bar, it shud be between 3.0 to 9.0
Or by putting the mouse icon over it, it will tell u what it needs to be.
lazy, i'd go 4 blue line
my idle speed on my 2000 passat tdi is at 800 rpm,can i adjust it to be at 900+ rpm?
If you can download the map to you computer and send it to me , ill do that for you
You selected the wrong motor. Why is that. 2002 ALH TDI would be Pre 2004 yes? You selected post 2003.
Nope, he selected "Post 03/1999" (meaning after March 1999), which is the correct row for this engine. The other row was "pre 04/1999" (meaning before April 1999), and therefore not the good one in this case.
I don't see group 000 anywhere in my 05 jetta 1.9l tdi. not in mass block not in basic settings all starts from 01.
Yours is a PD motor not a VE
good
Still working in 2023 😅 😂😂😂
Always use new bolts on the timing adjust. 15NM +90
never have never will. not needed
There is 2 types of bolts. 1 strech and 1 non strech.
The 1 with a flat bottom is normal,
The 1 with a pointed bottom is the strech.
can I do this with a non diesel and vcds?? 00 vw jetta 2.0
thanks
