      I definitely agree in most cases, but Capcom have so many exploitable IPs, I don't think it's sheer coincidence that they chose Breath of Fire.

      Breath of Fire 4 was one of my first JRPGs, and one of the games that got me hooked on the genre. Such a bizarre game to play at the age of 9 or 10, and it woke me up to how shitty the world can be.

      For me it was BoF II that REALLY got me into the series, although I had played and enjoyed the first one. I agree that IV is excellent though and might have been my favorite had I not been much older by the time it rolled around.

      That's because IV was originally planned to be the first game in a trilogy (hence why Yuna was left alive at the end, and it was clear that he wasn't done). But then for God knows what reason, Capcom decided to reorganize their staff and give us two crappy games instead of the REAL V and VI that we were supposed to get.

    • @leslieandrews9208
      @leslieandrews9208 6 років тому

      Well actually they never gave us VI, and V was at least interesting, still I would of liked to see what was on the surface at the very least... Still, I get the feeling that whatever retarded pile of cartilage is responsible for that is the reason for Capcom failing as of recently... And now i feel sad that we missed what may of been a epic game unfold, but without some sort of time machine, what can we do?

      Likewise. 3 has been with me since I was just a young boy, so perhaps nostalgia clouds my judgement a little, but the series as a whole is phenomenal.
      I once had a dream that Capcom released DLC for 3. Good DLC that was like a full length story taking place after the events of the game. That'd just be heavenly. You hear me, Capcom?!? Make my dreams literally come true!

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  7 років тому +3

      I always imagined Dragon Quarter took place after 3, because it adds up. The desert consumes all, and drives everyone underground, where they uncover more Brood. A few thousand years later, the earth has recovered, and Ryu and co. make it to the surface, where it's all nice and green again, once and for all proving that Myria is an unnecessary 'mother' to the world, along with the government of Dragon Quarter.

    Casp... you summed up my entire feelings about reviving Breath of Fire beautifully. It's an underrated gem of a series that deserves the love and attention to stand tall once again. Breath of Fire is my absolute favorite RPG franchise, with Breath of Fire 3 being my all-time favorite game even to this day. We need more people like you vouching for a true revival of the series, not that slag-tastic mobile junk. I would LOVE to see the games redone in higher quality. I would love to see all the Ryus, Ninas, Rei, Deis, Ursula, the dragon forms, the Shaman forms, and more brought back to life in stunning hi-def. This series needs more love as it's such an underrated diamond in the rough that really needs a chance to show what it can do. And also fix any translation errors while they're at it would be stellar (poor Breath of Fire 2...). But Capcom seems to be perfectly fine letting it rot. Fans like us need to stay strong and hope that one day Breath of Fire will regain the former glory it deserves.

  • @FreeRPGer
    @FreeRPGer 6 років тому +14

    Indeed, Breath of Fire needs to re-find its roots, then evolve. I love the first 4 games, but then 5 & 6 happened...... :(
    3 is my favorite, then 1 and 2. I like 4, as well, but 5 and 6 completely lost that BoF feel, and strayed for all its traditions.
    Capcom needs to know that BoF needs its identity back, more like the first 4 games, but evolved in a new way, as well.
    Hell, even a couple of the classics remastered would be awesome. Wishful thinking, I know.

    • @Caspicum

      Worst part is that Camelot, so creators of acclaimed Golden Sun series, was interested in reviving franchise but Capcom said nop! Old jRPG's don't sell, they say to release that piece of this year later 0_0
      Granted, it was during "fuck Capcom" era and they largely change approach from that time so there is still hope. But still. It is shame that one of best jRPG's is so unknown brand.

    "The dialogue happens in that shitty visual novel style, which people think is acceptable for some reason."
    ...FUCKING THANK YOU! God, that's the laziest shit, and I can't stand it. When I saw BoF6 had that is when I wrote it off completely. Nothing says, "I don't care" than that lazy-ass dialogue/plot-delivery method.

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  7 років тому +5

      YES! I can forgive it in visual novels, because I hate the genre anyway, and I don't mind it when it's mixed with model/sprite movement. This gives me a sense of where shit is, and how it's going down. Disgaea does a solid job at this, but it also has funny dialogue, so it could carry any sort of dialogue sequence on its own.
      On its own, in a game which typically features expressive sprites, positioned in situations which enhance the scene instead boring you to death... It hurts. God, I miss Breath of Fire.

      I don't mind the dialogue method in the Project X Zone games at least it gets over with fairly quickly and serves enough of a purpose story wise. Also don't mind it in a advance wars or Fire Emblem way or Final Fantasy Tactics but these are probably the only games i deem it acceptable Blazblue is alright not going for any awards there lol

    Breath of Fire 3 was my childhood, i still play the remake and LOVE it. We need a new Breath of Fire game or at least a remake of the first two cause they seriously deserve it. BoF4 always had a special place in my heart as well, because i played until i got to Windia without being able to read english XD (my dad found it in some second-hand videogame shop in germany and got it for me because i loved the previous game so much)

But then I saw the trailer for BoF 6 and my first impression is that it didn't capture the spirit of the series at all. Looks like that wasn't off the mark, this was too good a series to be treated so badly. It really needs a remastered collection.

    Honestly, I think the reason why breath of fire isn't being worked on much anymore is simply because it doesn't show that year on year growth a lot of publicly traded companies need. The issue is that it's very hard to get constant growth because you eventually will top out and that's the limit. It occurs to me that Capcom isn't making BoF not because it won't make a profit, but because it won't make enough profit.

    And here I thought Final Fantasy got it bad in the modern era...
    I'd say that I can't believe Capcom would be tone deaf enough to slap the breath of fire name onto a F2P game that looks like it was programmed over the course of a few long weekends, but knowing the state of Japanese gaming I can't be too surprised.
    I assume it's just the usual mix of economic pressures and a lack of vision at the corporate level, but it still feels like Capcom are going out of their way to dig up the corpse of one of their flagship franchises so that they can re-assemble the dessicated parts into some kind of wifi enabled mobile cash machine.

Perhaps you can call it similar game or even spiritual successor but the fact it was made not by the same developer is glaring red alert specially since the dev and publisher agree to made its next number main title a friggin mobile game. I had no idea that VI had "mmo-like" elements, adding a whole new layer of unnecessary mass stitched onto the prosthesis. It's like a visual representation of cancer. Microtransactions, m-muh custom avatar, shitty customization options, VN dialogue screens, call backs turned into vendors, fruitless housing AND FUCK IT MULTIPLAYER KINDA.

    I was playing BoF I and II cuz they were available on the Switch's Online thingy, because I'd played 4 forever ago (and 5, but I never managed to beat that) and I wanted to check out those first games, since they were there.
    Still in the middle of II, but throughout this time I've been playing them I've thinking, "These would be neat to see remastered."
    Just because of various issues that came with them being old, I guess. Like the translation, things like wordspace being a premium causing things like item and equipment names needing to be abbreviated to almost the point of nonsense (SokletAR? G8Bait?) and just some of the archaic design choices.
    But as was mentioned in the video, I'd love to also see BoF3/4 be made easily and readily available on something like steam or gog.
    Even BoF5, just so I could play it through myself.
    Also I didn't even know that BoF4 had cut content!

      Straight up, I'd love Breath of Fires 3 and 4 on GoG. 4 is on PC but... mmmmmmmm. You'd probably have to run a virtual machine just so it didn't crash constantly. I'd just play it on PS1 at that point hey.
      There is the GBA versions of 1 and 2 as well, and the fan translation of 2, but I don't remember the GBA versions being all that different, and the fan translation is a bit cringe. Lots of unnecessary swearing and stuff, it's weird.

    According to this interview way back in 2008, the reason they don't feel like touching the series again
    is because they don't have enough staff/resources & competing with the rest of the RPG market kotaku.com/5115773/capcom-has-no-plans-to-bring-back-breath-of-fire
    In more recent interviews (specififcally for MvC Infinite & that USF2 Switch port), they seem to reinforce this. They said after making another MvC for the first time in 5 years, their President said they do have interest in reviving classic IPs as a whole, but their small workforce is still too busy with current projects to be worrying about reviving other IPs.
    In the grand scheme of things, it does look like a new BoF have a hard time competing with the JRPGs already dominant and I don't know how many people would really care for it. The dedicated fanbase might eat it up for sure (assuming it actually delivers & lives up to expectations, unlike this mobile game), but for the general gaming community as a whole it sadly seems unlikely. BoF was always pretty niche sales-wise compared to Cap's other franchises and was always looked at by critics as pretty straightforward as far RPGs go.
    Still, a great video and I enjoyed sitting through this analysis and your other reviews for the 2nd, 3rd, & 5th games. If Capcom ever makes good on their promise of Ip revival, I do hope they'll soon they'll soon grow the guts to experiment with your videos' ideas and give the series 1 more chance or 2 (although I disagree that simply selling it off to Atlus or someone else would solve the problem this easily), this mobile game just isn't the way to do it.
    Another MvCI interview said Nina (in her BoF1 design) was originally gonna included as part of UMvC3's update and managed to last longer than other scrapped characters until cut at the last minute. Not holding my breath but in the rare event we get her or some other series rep in Infinite, maybe that could be a good start for reviving the series?

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  7 років тому +3

      Thanks for the info! It's amazing to think there was a time Kotaku reported on actual video game news.
      There is certainly a passionate fanbase for Breath of Fire, but I think the Capcom name has enough of a pull to make most things work *if* they're genuinely good games. That said, I have another video where I look at developer interviews on Suikoden, and a point that comes up is the cost of modern JRPGs. I think devs have too large an idea of what they think people want, which is FFXIII-esque graphics and all that.
      In reality, most people just want something good. It doesn't have to be particularly flashy or expensive.
      Selling it off to Atlus was mostly a joke, but for the past 25 years, they've survived solely on a niche market right up until Persona 4 exploded in popularity. I think if anyone has the right attitude to approach a series like Breath of Fire, it's a company like that.

    It's to bad that the nature of gaming has devolved into these money milking machines.
    Since this model has been adopted it's changed the landscape so dramatically that games are becoming less complete and more, pay for parts of the game.
    This has become a major reason I do not engage with most new titles, if I buy a game I expect to receive the whole game.
    I understand there is a huge incentive monetarily to continue and expand this model; with that the resulting effect has hurt the enjoyment of gaming dramatically (at least for me).

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  6 років тому

      I completely agree. Hate buying shit and it not being a complete experience. I don't mind if people continue developing new scenarios and shit for he game after release, devs gotta eat, but the mobile model is nothing short of cancer.

    • @Relief2007
      @Relief2007 6 років тому +1

      Cancer indeed, this might be showing my age a bit, but games such as BOF 1-4 were a staple of my childhood gaming experience.
      Before consoles were online, games had to be finished, no patches, no updates, the game had to be fully polished and stable. At best there were expansion packs that were developed and released later. With the advent of 'always online' mentality games are being released unfinished and polished mid flight.
      Sure the progression of technology and gamers expectations has risen, but that does not excuse the current climate. Developers can continue this trend of 'broken' releases, transaction heavy models, and mobile development, consequently the quality has plummeted in many regards.
      In some capacity the issues with publicly traded companies that answer to share holders has spurred this mentality. while a company might make more quarterly gains, I don't see how it has helped create a better product. Graphics be damned, the whole presentation of all aspects of a game speaks louder than anything else.

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  6 років тому

      With inflation creating insane budgets, and a gaming public that won't vote with their wallets, it's impossible to send any meaningful message. Most big games are even built the same nowadays. I played Mad Max recently, and it plays like every fuckin AAA release.
      Games of old were far from perfect, but most of them felt like a complete experience, regardless of whether they actually were. I think the most damning thing that game dev has lost over the past 20-30 years is just pride. People don't seem to take pride in a functional product anymore.

    • @Relief2007
      @Relief2007 6 років тому

      I would agree.
      Due to the size and graphical demand of most triple A release's the team itself has grown dramatically, and outsourcing parts of development has started to effect games in a negative fashion.
      Games are starting to feel like going to the movies, a lot of development and money may have been spent, but that does not always reflect the final product. As long as large enough profits are made then the practice will not change.

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  6 років тому

    This makes me think how we think about sequels.
    I'm guessing none of the original creators were involved in BoF6, and I'm also guessing that Capcom JP needed a name for their new mobile game, so they used the BoF brand instead (creating a new IP is a hefty process). It seems very evident when you play the game.
    So how do you think of this game? IMO it shouldn't be compared the full fledged single-player RPGs, since it shares very little of it's design, but should be judged with other F2P Japanese titles.
    This makes me think. Suppose the original creators' vision were to make a single player RPG, but then when those people either quit or moved on to other things, and the new teams' vision is to make a strange rogue-lite game, people always start comparing it to the work of the originals, which had a very different vision.
    This is also why western Silent Hills, or say Doom 3, are so polarizing among fans, because the vision for those were different were different from those of the originals.

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  7 років тому +1

      I wouldn't be surprised if there were at least a handful of people from the original Breath of Fire teams who worked on BoF6. It has been about 13 years since a major title was in development, but 1-5 had a very consistent dev team from what I've read. Dragon Quarter being an absolute shit-show was still a result of an almost identical dev team, which makes you wonder about 6.
      I definitely think it's a case of "We made a game, let's attach one of our dead licences to it and capitalize on nostalgia."
      I would compare it to the console predecessors, solely because they slapped the "6" at the end. If it's meant to represent the series, and be the latest of the core series, then it should be held to as high standards as possible, and in direct relation to the rest of the series.
      Breath of Fire was never a series that played it safe, and it's why it had to settle for a cult following until the internet gave it a boost. This isn't odd behaviour for the series, it's just a bit of a... Blind charge, so to speak. I would also compare it to other F2P Japanese mobile games, but I can't read Japanese, which adds a very large barrier for me as the talky boy. (I'd say critic, but god that feels self-congratulatory)
      I think for almost any other series, you're definitely spot-on. I'd say what doomed 6 from a critical perspective, was the next sequential number, coupled with the nature of the series, which I believe is to break away from convention in charming, subtle ways.
      Your same question could be posed to Dragon Quarter as well, as it's more about survival and resource management than a comfy JRPG. Vision is a big part, and should absolutely be taken into consideration. While it doesn't make criticisms less valid, I think understanding what the devs wanted to achieve with Dragon Quarter certainly made me look at it in a new light. They achieved what they set out to, but it created new problems, which they clearly didn't have enough time to iron out.
      I haven't played Silent Hills at all, or any Doom past the first one, but I need to change that hey.
      I generally do a reply-day after I put a video out, where I sit down for a few hours and reply to everyone. Your comments always get the noggin chuggin', so I leave them till last. This time, I forgot about it, in the sea of "gay for cray", so here's a belated reply!

    Hi there. I've been playing BoF6 for over 5 weeks at the advice of my iTalki pal who has been teaching me Japanese for a while. Some of the things you have said are true, such as the game is linear focuses to much on micro transactions. When looking for some reviews from an English point of view I have noticed a few things that I could help clarify. Specifically the Fellow system. Each fellow has 2 levels, their base level (which stats are based on the star level) and their enhanced level (the -/+ you can see on their stat screen). Fishing actually is the best way to level their enhanced level. If you take the fish to the fishing guy in Castle Town you can trade spare fish for 修練石 (Stone, the blue pentagons). This is the primary way to level your fellows outside of events. Every 8 levels you enhance you have to use a purple gem and move up a stone level. This corresponds to each fishing spot. Level 1 stones for fish found in level 1, Level 2 stones from fish in level 2 etc.. At first the boost is not that noticeable, but after a while it makes them a lot stronger. There are also training fairies you can farm with ease to boost their base level significantly. Its only a minor thing that people seem to overlook, but a combination of fishing for stones and finding fairies does make a difference to the fellows. It also makes hitting the 3 stars much easier. The enhanced level can been seen on this screen ua-cam.com/video/MEauh00WzgY/v-deo.html where the +14 next to ランク (Rank) means the maximum enhanced level for this fellow. There is a lot more to it as well, sacrificing higher level fellows during the enhance stage can trigger bonus stats.

      Thanks for the info! That would alleviate a lot of my issues with their longevity in combat, but I think it'd bring up a few more issues. Seems like it would only add to the mindless approach to combat if they became brick walls. I remember stuffing around with some menu somewhere, and doing this one option gave my healer an extra 65,000 health. Considering she only had 10,000, that was very interesting.
      It also fixes some of my gripes about the fishing rewards, but seems like it would introduce more grind.
      I didn't quite feel I was getting everything though, which is why I opted away from a review, and more towards a "Some things I noticed", so I do greatly appreciate your comment.

    Aside from all the other problems of Breath of Fire VI.
    I simply can't understand why the hell push Ryu as a secundary character, instead of the main character. It would be like having a new Street Fighter game, but not putting any of the classic characters.
    And even worse, BoFVI have the most sweet design for Ryu. He looks amazing in the portraits he have.
    Capcom tickled my nostalgia with the news about a new installment in the series, but when i saw it was a mobile game, and seeing the gameplay, it made me extremelly bitter towards Capcom more than the fact they still don't make any more Megaman game.

      Ryu as a secondary character, then not even having him in the game until toward the end. I don't get it. RYU IS BREATH OF FIRE.

      Does BoF6 at least have Worens? I love my beautifull tiger people.
      But aside from that, Breath of FIre have it's katamary of tropes, just like Zelda, that define itself: Ryu being a dragon, a winged girl named Nina, the marvelous diversity of races in the world, such as Woren(Katt, Rei, Clay) Grassrunner (Scias, Bow Ursula), Manillo, Winged Clan (All Wyndians), etc., the city building stuff, fishing minigame, the diversity of dragon forms you can achieve as the game goes long, and the more grey zone store telling that i like on the series, especially on BoFIII and IV.

      Aw that's harsh. There are alot of little unassuming mobile games by indie or even solo developers that are simple and often free fun.

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  6 років тому

      I think the best thing mobile games can offer is a 5-minute toilet experience. The controls are too imprecise and your thumbs take up precious screen real-estate, so any real-time challenging game becomes an infuriating chore. The app store/google play are full of clone garbage that's of not worth to anyone.
      There's gotta be at least 1 good mobile game out there, but the inherent design of a mobile experience is bad from the outset, and good luck finding that one game.
      That said, I have heard Final Fantasy Dimensions isn't bad, but of all the mobile games I've ever played, I've not played a single enjoyable one.

    Lastly the story would focus on the exploration of ancient technology buried underground, rise of the demons into the world and the split between the light and dark tribes of dragons. I think exploring a lost world is always a cool setting for a game and it would fit for the series because we have never gotten a 100% explanation of the tech of the old world. Breath of Fire IV was probably the closest thing we got to connecting some of the dots.

    I miss being able to so "gay" to insult something wierd I didn't like.

      That's the thing, a lot of people read way too much into off-handed comments like that, but it's more about the irony of using something that is an insult, but has no real reason to be an insult. It's like using the word "radical" at this point, where it's very clearly tongue-in-cheek.
      Retarded is a bit different, but it's just so easy to say, and everyone knows exactly what it means. No offense meant to any homosensuals or disables, they're just fun words.

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  6 років тому

      I appreciate the comment, my dude!
      I'm super-liberal when it comes to language use, and I think that the only way we'll ever destigmatize words is by excessively using them. I never say any particular words for any specific reason, it's largely that they just round my sentence off well, or fit in a little too perfectly. Letting words have power over you has always seemed weird to me, and it seems even weirder now that people are letting it affect them to such extreme degrees, like when you remove any form of context, it just becomes a noise which conveys very little, so when people derive offense from that, it seems like they're looking for something to be offended by.
      That said, I don't hold it against anyone for not liking particular words, it's just never going to be a train I can safely ride, because the *ride never ends* and I like to get off every now and again for a short breather. As long as nobody takes me too seriously, we'll all get along just fine.
      Also, the more frowned upon a word is, the more I want to use it purely to piss a bunch of up-tight people off. I can't help it, I'm only human!

    • @vdogaymer
      @vdogaymer 6 років тому

      I don't condone your use of the word, it's just the masses who use it to bash others and get empowered when they see someone they appreciate use it. Gays have a long way to go for acceptance in many countries, and words like that just go into echoing the powers that be, who like to subjugate them down. I am awestruck that you even took the time to respond to my comment as you do to many of your fans Casp. Again you are number 1 in my book, your style involves cussing and saying whatever slur word that goes with your flow. I agree words should not hold any power over others and those who get bothered by it are the ones who make it harder on themselves. It is just that many people view gays in a negative light, and words like that are what validates them to treat others like crap and strip the rights of others just cause they are different.

    There is nothing wrong with visual novel style animation if it is done right and for the right games, I mean in Breath of fire 4 you had even less.. you only had portraits with different emotions. But yes, if they were going to use it in a Breath of Fire game they should have combined it with actual visuals that showed the characters sprite reacting at the same time. This however would not have worked in this entry seeing as how the actual sprites for the characters looked like trash.

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  4 роки тому

      I hate the visual novel style, I think it's a means to be lazy with character conveyance and to overdose a game with unnecessary text. I can't think of a single instance where a still anime cut-in was better than it not being there at all, tbh. I think Breath of Fire 4 got it right. Text boxes with some occasionally-changing face sprites, and a lot of the scene punctuated with some basic animation. It gives you a better idea of what's actually happening, as opposed to generic-looking anime shit.
      I can't stand VNs though, so my extreme view probably isn't for everyone.

      I reckon it does. While Alundra 2 was barely even a sequel, and more of an Ocarina of Time rip off, it's still a decent PS1 action title. You can tell it had the same drive behind it as the first game, but it didn't translate to 3D too well.
      I'd say it's the same with Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, etc. None of the main entries are related, but they're a franchise.

  • @Stratelier
    @Stratelier 6 років тому

    The first Breath of Fire game I played was IV during the PSX era, and in that era I could not enjoy its explicitly Eastern take on "dragons". Might have even left a dead skeleton off in some corner of the Internet, but whatever, that was the me of a different era too.
    I also played the GBA port of the first game (and finished it), and the second game (not finished it). I've also played the third game (definitely not finished it), plus Dragon Quarter (finished it multiple times, eventually getting a D-ratio of like 1/512 or something, just enough to access all D-ratio-locked areas. I also beat the 50-floor bonus dungeon Kokon Horay.)
    With those in mind I played IV a second time more recently, and while IV's "dragons" are still pretty weird I'm not (as) offended by them anymore. I still disapprove of the half-human dragon form seen in IV but otherwise the combat is by far best the original games had to offer. Dragon Quarter was certainly different for gameplay, but it did that job well.
    It was a good series, may it rest in peace (and the allegedly-canonical sixth entry in pieces).

    I agree with you as well. I've tried VI as well and it was not very appealing to me. I thought that, with the inclusion of the other species, you could use one of them but nope. When I saw the "story-telling" scenes, I didn't write it off completely because there are a few games I've played that had those elements in them, so I was all right with that. But the microtransactions like other mobile games, world building like Animal Crossing (And AC is awesome), but no substance?
    The main player being customizable is a nice idea... but it's freaking limited. Awakening and Fates offer more choices. No wonder this game didn't make it outside internationally--the backlash it got, while harsh, was deserved. I'm sure they did put some time into developing this game, but it's just a ripoff. I'd be okay if this were some spin-off, but it's not. Sadly, it is not. How dare they shove this off on us Breath of Fire fans? It's like one of those games in a series that "should never be mentioned."
    I honestly hope that Capcom gets their act together and create a BETTER BOFVI or VII or co-op with another company so they can start making new games. A reboot is not needed; we can just pick up after DQ or even IV and be on our way.

    • @Caspicum

    We need a fanmade fan-sponsored game made in the image of the old Breath of Fire games! I swear, it'll be better if REAL fans worked together on a project like this rather than corperations trying to force spirit into a game franchise that they don't have the right people (or passion) for.
    I think our best bet is like this. Not a new "Breath of Fire" but something that carries on it's essence without lacking life.
    Have you all seen Sonic Mania? It's a new game but in the style of the old Sonic games-- They did it PERFECTLY. They had all of the old stuff, creating the same old feeling- but even so, they managed to add content that ACTUALLY MATCHED the logic and feeling of the old games and didn't just look like shit you add in order to make the game look like some bizarre mix between old and new. It ACTUALLY FIT into the game.
    Now obviously in order to make a game like that you have to be transparent with what you're trying to copy. don't try to "sneak" around shit. make it honest and real.
    We'd have to get around ALL copyright-stuff but make use of everything about the games that made us love them in the first place..
    Maybe I'm making it sound like I have all the details here-- I really don't, but I know that a good team of true fans with the right competence could EASILY make a game that could carry the spirit of the old Bof games. I truly believe so.

    There are only two Breath of Fire games that I would be interested in playing. 1. A "Zero" game that covers the events of Tyr, the Goddess Keys, and the first band of heroes to seal her, as referenced in the original Breath of Fire. Or 2. A direct sequel to the original Breath of Fire that has Ryu, Nina, and some of the other characters from that game. This game could perhaps deal with Tyr as it still exists after being defeated, and also lead in to how Eva is created. Also, I would like it to explain how Bo and Karn were in BoF2 as cameos.

    • @Caspicum
      @Caspicum  6 років тому

      They're just cameos, my dude. The second game is like 100, or 300 years after the original, right? They'd be dead. There's no lore reason, it's just a nice little reference to an old game. As for a new title, I don't think I'd want it tied to games of old at all. Breath of Fire 1 and 2 are done, and a real 6th should be wholly original.

    • @BelieveIt1051
      @BelieveIt1051 6 років тому

      Well, there was that one time that Nina fell into the temporal distortion and was sent into the... um... past. Er, okay, not a perfect example, but maybe Bo and Karn fell into something similar. Ryu would have to find a way to get them back to the right era. Also, on the subject of Nina, she did appear as a guardian ghost in BoF2. And then there's Bleu, who is kind of like the eternal character of the series. She could act as a link between the original conflict with Tyr, BoF1, and BoF2.
      How can you say 1 is done? What about the 1000000GP Ryu still owes Gobi?

      It would be nice to see a zero breath of fire, but idk about a sequel. I believe there was enough information given to know what happened between 1 and 2, the 200 year war vs the brood clan and the demon clan. And yes nina appeared as a guardian ghost in bof 2 and the bof 1 ryu showed up as the old man giving ryu from bof2 his dragon powers.
