YEAH! Knight of Lodis specifically is often neglected in favour of LUCT and it makes sense, LUCT is the better proudct overall, but man i love the gba one
Two romhacks I really enjoyed are the Golden Sun Reloaded ones. They take Golden Sun 1 and The Lost Age and do a lot to rebalance them, they have higher difficulty than the base game and make replaying the games feel like a fresh experience. It's basically an improved vanilla experience for people looking to replay the games but not wanting to do exactly the same as every other playthrough before.
That's sick, I might have to look in to those. The only Golden Sun one I saw in my travels was a Jenna replacement mod, where Isaac's swapped out for her in the first game. I feel like we get enough of her in the second game.
Another vote for this. There are lots of balance changes behind the scenes. Magic damage and resistance aren't so heavily reliant on stacking Djinn now. This, plus equipment and class tweaks make multi-element class comps more viable mid-game. Definitely forced using defensive buffs etc for bosses without being brutal.
can you recommend a good GBA emulator? I got one for the Mother 3 hack and the music can't stop playing this weird reverberating white noise that ruins it

There's so many good pokemon rom hacks it's crazy. That community is so dedicated, I genuinely envy their passion and wish I had time to play them all.
I don't know anyone who still plays old games and it makes me sad, I love these games and I prefer them over most of the new ones. So seeing people still playing these classics and making rom hacks for them makes my day. Great video!
Yeah, I'm not huge into new games. I find the occasional hit, but for the most part, they feel soulless. Old stuff hits me in a way that new stuff can't. even Dragon Quest 11 was a fantastic game, but if I wanted a comfy DQ game to screw around in, I'd go 1-8, maybe 9 if I was feeling adventurous.
I always like seeking these hacks breathe new life into old games. Everything from fixing bugs, adding content, fixed translations to taking the game's engine and making something new with it. It's a lot of fun to see what the dedicated community behind it that truly loves these games will come up with.
Discovering awesome rom hacks is like discovering delicious new spices to your favorite food. It can change a game you love into something even better or add cool content. The GBA Fire Emblem games have an ocean of awesome rom hacks that could fill a whole game store just with them alone 😮
Straight up, I dig the GBA Fire Emblems but I'm not familiar enough to really appreciate a rom hack. I swear, half of the entries on the romhack website were Fire Emblem, and that's insane.
@@Caspicum I can understand that. Fire Emblem rom hacks are definitely for those who can't get enough of that era of that series 🤔 I'm just glad the ROM hacking community has been able to provide us consumers satisfying content that otherwise have been completely abandoned by companies (like Breath of Fire, FE, etc.) :D
You should also check fan translations. I found my favourite snes game ever thanks to it: Tengai Makyou Zero. The way it uses the real time clock makes the game very dynamic and alive.
I love a fan translation too. I try not to rely on them too heavily nowadays, I feel like playing a game in Japanese is gonna do wonders for my acquisition but there're some amazing translations out there. Been eying down that PSP Suikoden game for a while.
I've liked the last two rom hacks i've played. The first is Pokemon Emerald Rogue, it's a rogue-like gameplay in Gen3 pokemon game, you can expect the usual stuff, perma-death, limited items, HARD enemies and so on. You definitelly need some strategies to beat the game. The second game is Digimon World 2 Alternative. Reballanced gameplay makes the game fairly harder, but not crazy harder. More digimons added to the game, they are just recolors, but still existing digimons, like BlackAgumon or BlackGabumon for example, and hey, more is always good. Dungeon layout is completely new, textures of the dungeons are made new from scratch (ice dungeon looks icy!). Story dialogs are rewritten to make more sense, but the overall story is the same. There's more, but i don't really want to make this post too long, but i recommend this hack.
I have heard about Digimon World 2 Alternative! There was another one too that I was looking at, and I think they both do similar things in their own ways. Once I've had a DW2 refresher, I'll have to take a look for sure. Also, Emerald Rogue sounds infuriating. I might have to check it out.
Hell yeah. Dont see too many romhacking vids. That site has been an absolute godsend for nes/snes/genesis and all kinds of great retro titles. And with modern tech, even the cheaper phones can emulate anything up to the psx pretty damn well. Gotta love it.
I had just found FF IV Ultima a few weeks ago! I honestly think FF roms need to strive for something *similar* to Ultima. Not completely, but ever since turning off encounters was introduced in VIII I've been praying someone implements that just to make the older games more bearable in running through dungeons multiple times. Especially in FF I roms...
I remember a long time ago I found an FF6 spoof rom that was hilarious (at least to me at the time, haven't played it since). I don't think it changed anything but dialog and enemy names, but it had me busting out in laughter frequently. I think that was my first intro into hacked ROMs, though I don't think I've really played any since.
I honestly never understood why ppl don't like the Boss Rushes. I love them! They're just plain fun! Seems to me like maybe the gamers that aren't so good at games are the only ones that don't like them. I think they're perfectly fine.
@@Caspicum I think it's fun myself. The boss battles are supposed to be fun, and at this point w my skill level I need something a bit harder. Like I just played thru Kirby's Dreamland on the new Switch Gameboy release, haven't played it since I was a kid so it's probably been a good 20+ years since I've played it. Even so, I beat the whole thing first try while hardly getting hit. I got hit maybe 3 or 4 times thru the entire game. It was just so easy. Got hit once in that boss rush at the end, and once during the Dedede fight as I was learning his pattern. The Boss rush was one of the most fun parts of the entire thing! And I actually liked how I noticed that the 1 HP of health never restored throughout it, so you don't get your health back between fights which I like.
ShadowOne's Zelda Redux patches are definitely worth checking out. There's also a huge category of Undub patches, with my favorite being Mega Man ZX Advent. Finally, you may be interested in my Chrono Trigger Soundtrack Expansion romhack, which ports 12 pieces of music from Pre-releases and Re-releases back into the SNES Chrono Trigger, and places them at appropriate points in the story.
That Chrono Trigger one sounds sick. I don't know how to feel about undubs, it depends on the game, I guess. Certain games use the cheese to enhance them, like Legend of Dragoon or... uhhh... but if I wanted the Japanese audio, I'd probably just play in Japanese and try to pick up some words and stuff along the way. I guess they're good for people who don't care about that.
@@Caspicum I agree with the hesitancy around undubs. For the most part, I avoid them. However, for ZX Advent, it actually brings the game stylistically in-line with Zero 1-4 and ZX, which feature the same style of "undubbing" in their international releases. The stylistic similarity was enough to sell me on it.
The demon's crest looks really good,, gonna try that one out for sure, I'll just say that removing content (even if it's something minor) is never the answer.
My most favorite rom hack still has to be Sonic 2 Pink Edition, mostly because it was the first i had played that really opened my eyes to the incredible possibilities that just small tweaks to the core game loop could have. In this case, instead of jumping on enemies, you had to time hammer spin attacks, or youd take damage, there was also melee attacks as well, which just blew my mind. Recently though, ive been delving into randomizers, like a link to the past randomizer, or the lttp/supermetroid randomizer. and its for the exact reasons said in here. It spices it up and puts a new coat of paint on it, without really damaging the core of the game itself. That said it *does* remove the meticulously told story from both so if youre not into that, then its best to avoid i would think.
NES hacks are usually the best in terms of technical improvement. I don't know how people make half of those games playable, and I guess a lot of that is designing for emulation and not the original hardware, but it's still incredibly impressive.
@@Caspicum Hi! Creator of Zelda II - Amida's Curse here. It's indeed a challenge to hack NES games. Though, most NES hacks are perfectly playable on original hardware, at least Zelda II - Amida's Curse is. 🙂 And thanks @spirenguard for the compliment!
My brain always defaults to Pokémon when I think about ROM hacks simply cause there's SO many of them and the ROM hacking community surrounding the series is SO big. You have everything from difficulty hacks (Most obvious is Radical Red (Tho I'm personally not a fan)), reimaginings of existing games (Delta Emerald, "What if ORAS but Emerald?"; Der Erif/BACKWARDS, "What if Fire Red but you explore the region in reverse?"; and Red++, (Red but with a ton of updates) being great examples), and full-on new games with new stories/locations/Pokémon/etc. (Orange, Coral, Unbound, Vega, Prism, etc.). I could go on forever about these cause they're so interesting to me, but I think you get the point. Lol.
I also Don't Fancy RomHacks That Up Difficulty to 10000x I Prefer One That Normal Difficulty With A different story and quality of life improvements...Got Many To Play in my rotation from Mario World to Pokémon Metroid....
I wasn't sure what it was based on the name, and I think I passed it up as a result. That said, I will check it out! FF5 is one of my faves. Thanks for the recommend.
Big daddy Casp bringing in more sponsors, congrats man. I have no history playing rom hacks but i like the sound of that BoF one so i may have to give that a shot
I appreciate the sponsors! I've always felt funny about the concept of patreon or viewer-support. I don't want to take money from the ramen bowls of the hard-working incel NEETs who I assume is 99% of my audience. I love those guys, and I want them to have free things. Suckling corporate teet doesn't hurt anyone as far as I can see, so I am legitimately thankful for the opportunity to sell out. Also yeah, you should absolutely try that Breath of Fire one. You're not getting a unique experience, but you are getting a playable translation, which is very nice. If you're used to the original names, you might need the notes, which detail what items do!
Thank you so much for bringing War of the Goddess to my attention. I had been looking for a rework for the script to Breath of Fire, since I had tried it on Switch and fell off after a couple hours. Now to give it another shot. Peace~!
I've had a really good time with the Breath of Fire 3 Hard-Rebalanced mod. While it does make the game harder like it says on the tin, it also does quite a lot of other things. There's no new story, quests or dialogue - it's just a lot of balance changes to gameplay mechanics, on top of much stronger enemies. The biggest change is magic (and thus Nina) is significantly stronger now, even in late-game. Even Garr's fire spells can hit pretty hard now. Spells and abilities got moved around quite a lot (for example, Nina is now also a competent healer), and there are many new additions. Debuff spells actually work on most bosses. Garr is much stronger overall. Rei is physically weaker but better at using moves like Flying Kick. Masters are rebalanced so there's a reason to use all of them, and they no longer reduce stats, so there's more freedom in building characters the way you want. Support spells like Protect are about 2.5x stronger. Damage + HP&AP totals are higher, which makes recovery spells more necessary and items less useful. Overall, I found myself paying quite a lot more attention to strategy in battles and making quite a lot of use of spells and abilities I normally wouldn't bother with, like Might, Speed, Enlighten, Meditate, Sanctuary, Flying Kick, Triple Blow and Rei's Lightning spells. The extra enemy difficulty also makes the elemental and status resist shots, as well as elemental/status resist equipment much more important. If you want to re-experience BoF3, I'd recommend giving it a go
FFIV ultimate and FFVI T-edition are quite nice and at least the T-edition ends out with a decent challenge. 12:17 what are the monster classes? I know what it says in CC, but there is a word in there.
I rather like rom hacks in concept. It's just a matter (for me) of finding whatever suits my tastes which is much less common and fickle. I used to have a really fun FF Tactics mod that just fixed dialogue, added some missing content, balanced out some mechanics and classes... But I cannot remember what it is :') What a shame.
That sounds familiar to me, there's not too many FFT mods that do multiple things, I find often times they stick to doing one thing really well. Very narrow-focused mod creators, but that usually works well. I'm much the same, I'm a bit particular with how I enjoy mods. There was some Mario RPG one I had a crack at, supposed to be really good, but I hated the font colour and how bloated the stats were. Lots of sprites had the wrong palettes and I put it down pretty fast. I guess that's the beauty of rom hacks, there's so many, you can get exactly what you want.
As someone who's played through Knight of Lodis a billion times and probably has a bias, I feel like a good romhack should do a little more tweaks, -make Emblem descriptions more accurate as to how to obtain them, tweak some other item/ability descriptions that are just kinda vague -more balances to spells and items because there's a lot of funkily balanced stuff besides the summons or stuff that's fun that doesn't really get used especially in the late game (better katanas for instance) -sneak in earlier encounters of interesting but hard-to-get enemies like undead so it's easier to play with those builds earlier than 50% of the way through the game -maybe add in a way to play multiplayer through different save files which could add some fun to local play and enables the Emblems to be earned easier than setting up a link mode -if adding content is on the table, tons of paths there, could always use more items, classes, abilities, new random encounters, side bosses, Quest Mode maps and different rewards, expanded gameplay that reaches the level 50 cap, all sorts I know this isn't a place to put detailed input on the romhack but I just got into stream-of-thought mode.
I'm not sure about spell balancing, but it'd be a good idea to read the change log. I felt like every with the space nerf, the summons didn't do as much actual damage either. There's still the same Katana, but they took a bunch of items that were locked behind certain later events, and the Quest Mode, and put them in the base game. I can't remember the first faeries' name, but she starts witht he candy set, so you can recruit her early and not miss out, and Alphonse starts as a Knight instead of a Soldier. The person behind it seems to know the game quite intimately, so I'd say some of your wants might even be in the change log.
I dont know if you tried it but the FF1 GBA Mod of Balance is pretty good, it fixed the stat bugs(intel not helping magic, agil is worthless but attack count ect.), and made 12 classes(at the start), classes add their level to determine hit count(agil+level)/16=hit count, but each class has a hit modifier, new drops, new buffs/debuffs to enemies. If you liked FF1 check it out.
It's exactly what it says, it's a Mrble3. You never played Mrbls before? For real though, who would've expected it to be one of the best items in the game?
I've been getting all the romhacks for a bunch of SNES games I never played as a kid and my god is there a lot of amazing stuff out there. I just got Trials of Mana/SD3 all patched with about 8 different improvement mods and bugfix/balance patches. After this I got FF4 and FF6 ready to go after this video and I am just so hype to finally play these games. part of the reason I don't necessarily want to go back and play a lot of these games is because of various annoyances about them that were just sort of accepted back in the day but are nigh unforgiveable today (like not having a run button!) and these mods fix just about all of that.
Goof Troop Space Treasure was a great time, plenty of puzzles, new theming for the levels, reworked or tweaked bosses, highly highly recommend. (I know Casp is playing it in the video just wanted to drop the name of the hack)
Is there a Hard Mode for Suikoden 2? I mean, 2 doesn't need it as badly, since they DID at least make the bosses somewhat formidable. (For example, most bosses attack more than once in a single turn. Hey! That's fair! It's a six on one battle!) That being said, it's still kiiiinda easy. Suikoden 1 is okay, but one thing I REALLY like about 2 is the variety of characters. Aside from the two Kobalds, Suikoden 1 only had humans. ...Yes, Fu Su Lu is human. He's wearing a mask. 2 had flying squirrels, octopuses, a robot, a griffon, 2 kobalds, a unicorn, and maybe a few others I forgot to mention.
I wasn't captured by the Suikoden 2 difficulty mod. I don't know if I got filtered or what, but it seemed to be punishing for the sake of it, which I can dig, depending on the game, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Also, I never noticed that about Suikoden 1. Damn, that's crazy.
If anyone is a fan of Skies of Arcadia, I'd recommend the Maeson mod. It acts as a balance patch of sorts, while also upping the difficulty a bit. Love it personally.
Interesting. I wonder if there is a hack for Demon's Crest that just gets rid of the slowdown, cuz the rest of those sound a little bit excessive. Except the menu stuff, that of course was tedium
Probably the best romhack I've ever seen is Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes. That though is essentially an entirely new game so I understand if that's not something you'd put up on a vid like this.
This video made me interested in many of those! However, you should have mentioned that FFVI Edition is also infamous for its unforgiving difficulty and heavy grind to be able to beat Kefka's Tower.
That could be true, but I just swapped my main party around so they could clock all the bosses on each of the three routes. Saved a bit of grinding at least!
Wow, I've genuinely not heard of a few of these, very nice video. Oh and ALUNDRA 2 MUSIC??? SOMEONE ELSE PLAYED THAT GAME TOO??? Well shit, now I gotta subscribe just out of principle.
I've recently gotten into Digimon World 2 alternative, which massively rewrites the script to make a cohesive plot on top of rebalancing all the mons. Random encounters get pretty chonky and arguably more dangerous than the bosses themselves.
@@Caspicum the two-handed property is inherent to spears specifically, and yeah the esper restriction is sort of the cornerstone change of the hack. Let us know if you ever do play it. I have a soft spot for Aussie streamers.
There's another hack that changes a lot of stuff, balances the game out a bit better and uses the War of the Goddess re-write. That might be worth looking in to as well!
That faulty hit detection on the underwater spikes in Demon's Crest is a no-go for me. Final Fantasy IV Ultima was awesome, but it's a shame no rom hack has ever figured out how to fix FFIV's flawed item list limitations completely. There are a lot of Final Fantasy VI rom hacks; I haven't yet tried any because of this. I'd like to get into Suikoden, but I fear it's the sort of game where you need to be following a guide at every turn to avoid missing content. There ought to be rom hacks which alert players to missable content. I don't have the time anymore to play through these vast games over and over to experiment. Tactics Ogre Knight of Lodis has a similar issue--doing certain things in battle can actually *prevent* access to certain job classes, which is just ridiculous.
FEuniverse is a website dedicated to romhacks and fangames from the fire emblem series if anyone wanted to play more GBA styled fire emblem games Some examples I can name are * The Last Promise (the first one) * Order of the Crimson Arm * Dark Lord and the Maiden of Light * Shackled Power * Drums of War * Dream of Five
I’m genuinely shocked you didn’t even mention a single Pokémon rom hack, when I think about the concept of rom hacks my first thought is always Pokémon
ROMhack can be kinda mixed bag, some are meh, some are fine, but when you find a good one it's GOOD. Lately I got myself into Digimon World 2 Alternative, which is a DW2 mod that kinda increasing difficulty and switch things up like Evolution. They also rewrote the story and Dungeons map so it's not the same in every Dungeon anymore (Battles still use the same old screen tho), the grinding problem not really fixed but it feels a bit better balanced as I can play without fast level cheat code and feels just fine until the lategame. Definitely a MOD worth checking out for DW2.
I've seen a few Digimon World 2 rom hacks, but I'm not familiar enough with it unfortunately. That said, it sounds like necessary improvements. I've got that DW2 re-review brewing in the background, so once that's done, i might have to check it out!
These all look pretty cool. I wonder if Tactics Ogre Reborn will get something like the PSP version's One Vision mod. That could end up being the definitive way to play Let Us Cling Together. A rom hack I like to shill is Pokemon ROWE. There's a ton of stuff it adds. It makes Emerald into an open world, where you can tackle the gyms in any order you want. You can turn off stuff like ivs and use pokemans all the way up to gen 8.
I actually really dig Crystal Clear, but I find that I end up just hard grinding certain gyms until I'm unstoppable and then quit playing around the fourth badge or so. That said, I should give ROWE a go. I was gonna put One Vision in this video, but I didn't feel like I knew enough about it, and I'd just played Reborn so I didn't want to play LUCT again so soon. It's a very long game.
Really awesome video.👍 I can't wait to play these games😍. I hope you will make a Part 2. I still don't know which romhacks are worth playing. So it's good to hear other people's opinion.
This got me wondering if there are any Chrono Trigger mods. Other old games that come to mind are Lufia 2 and Terranigma. These 3 games defined my childhood.
Interesting. I rarely mess with romhacks and when I do I tend towards ones that make a whole new game with the same mechanics, while you seem to prefer ones that change the mechanics but leave the game mostly the same.
It's hard to improve on a lot of classic JRPGs narrative-wise. Sure, the translation can be dodgy, and they can be padded, but the fundamental plot points are usually pretty consistent. When I see someone write new dialogue, I can tell it doesn't fit, their personality bleeds through. It's why I'm also iffy about translations, the Breath of Fire 2 fix up has some weird choices for language that don't fit too well. Functionally, it's a better translation, but it's also a little off-colour. I'm not against them or anything, but if you're gonna do it, make it wholly new, so there're no clashes.
Ugh, Brave New World was just a frustrating experience. It had a lot of neat ideas but the trash encounters just got to be too tedious to deal with by about the time you're going to Zozo.

I always like seeking these hacks breathe new life into old games. Everything from fixing bugs, adding content, fixed translations to taking the game's engine and making something new with it. It's a lot of fun to see what the dedicated community behind it that truly loves these games will come up with.
Have you heard/seen Final Fantasy VII New Threat? That shit slaps, son
I've heard of it, but never tried it. I should change that, by the sounds of it.
@@Caspicum oh, i've played that one too. Not perfect, but Suikoden is always a good time.
"Tenkaichi 4 isn't real"
also few days later
Tenkaichi 4 gets announced
They'll NEVER find a cure for cancer, it won't happen. It's impossible.
It's definitely padding, but I don't mind them so much. Maybe I've been conditioned by megaman but it seems like a skill test.
@@Caspicum Zelda II: Boss Endurance is a simple, fun, frustrating hack, yet despite my decades of experience with that game, I still can't beat it.
The stylistic similarity was enough to sell me on it.
the Demon's Crest rom hjack interested me the most. Good video.
2:23 "and Karn got Re-Vitaligo" and subscribed.
"No, it's not Budokai Tenkaichi 4"
AND THEN THE REAL BUDOKAI TENKAICHI 4 GETS ANNOUNCED
Hahaha
First of all OMG FF4 Ultima looks amazing. Second of all spoonfuls of peanut butter is delicious
bro i live on spooning peanut butter. outside of gambling on memecoins, it's the most expensive addiction I've ever had
The demon's crest looks really good,, gonna try that one out for sure, I'll just say that removing content (even if it's something minor) is never the answer.
Depends on the content for sure, but boss refights are pretty harmless.
Shows romhack BT4
> 1 week later: BT4 officially announced
Pretty chuffed with that, not gonna lie.
My favorite FFVI character? Sneed. His Fancy German Car summon is just too OP!
Only stealing from city slickers
Now Budokai Tenkaichi 4 is real
I'll have to check some of these out, I've mostly just stuck with NES hacks. The last romhack I played was Zelda 2 Amida's curse and it was excellent.
I can't believe this is the first time I have seen one of your videos. Definitely subscribing.
damn thanks bro i appreciate it
My brain always defaults to Pokémon when I think about ROM hacks simply cause there's SO many of them and the ROM hacking community surrounding the series is SO big.
Lol.
I also Don't Fancy RomHacks That Up Difficulty to 10000x I Prefer One That Normal Difficulty With A different story and quality of life improvements...Got Many To Play in my rotation from Mario World to Pokémon Metroid....
i was surprised you didnt mention FFV pixel freemaster kick butz edition
great game, and i think youd enjoy it!
Great to see some love for Gensou Suikoden!
I got a Suikoden video planned for a bit later in the year too. :^)
@@Caspicum I can't wait! I love all five main games, but I and II are very special to me.
This is great! Would love to see more rom hack videos. Like you said hack enthusiasts are a niche within a niche but I’m here for it.
If there's one thing I dig, it's a niche.
Thank you so much for bringing War of the Goddess to my attention. I had been looking for a rework for the script to Breath of Fire, since I had tried it on Switch and fell off after a couple hours. Now to give it another shot. Peace~!
Good luck! There's an item log that details what everything does, since the names still aren't super intuitive. You might need that!
@@Caspicum Awesome! Yeah, that'll be super helpful. Thanks!

I...I'm confused now....XD
If you want to re-experience BoF3, I'd recommend giving it a go
I've read that it went a little too hard on the difficulty, but I did want to get around to that at some point! Thanks for reminding me!
FFIV ultimate and FFVI T-edition are quite nice and at least the T-edition ends out with a decent challenge.
12:17 what are the monster classes? I know what it says in CC, but there is a word in there.
Fuckable :)
"No Budokai Tenkaichi 4 isn't real."
SPOKE TOO SOON
just had to wait another week, absolutely seething.
I rather like rom hacks in concept. It's just a matter (for me) of finding whatever suits my tastes which is much less common and fickle.
I used to have a really fun FF Tactics mod that just fixed dialogue, added some missing content, balanced out some mechanics and classes... But I cannot remember what it is :')
What a shame.
The internet could always use a few more videos spotlighting the good rom hacks.
FF6 Ted Woonsley Edition is probably best because it uncensors everything.
do i get to see terra's feet
As someone who's played through Knight of Lodis a billion times and probably has a bias, I feel like a good romhack should do a little more tweaks,
-make Emblem descriptions more accurate as to how to obtain them, tweak some other item/ability descriptions that are just kinda vague
-more balances to spells and items because there's a lot of funkily balanced stuff besides the summons or stuff that's fun that doesn't really get used especially in the late game (better katanas for instance)
-sneak in earlier encounters of interesting but hard-to-get enemies like undead so it's easier to play with those builds earlier than 50% of the way through the game
-maybe add in a way to play multiplayer through different save files which could add some fun to local play and enables the Emblems to be earned easier than setting up a link mode
-if adding content is on the table, tons of paths there, could always use more items, classes, abilities, new random encounters, side bosses, Quest Mode maps and different rewards, expanded gameplay that reaches the level 50 cap, all sorts
I know this isn't a place to put detailed input on the romhack but I just got into stream-of-thought mode.
As a fellow FF4 addict...I may have something to do this weekend, that looks like a blast.
My lobster king brother. Return here once you clock it and let me know what you thought!
Breath of Fire has so much charm, and part of that comes from me wondering what the heck an "Mrbl3" is... Along with many other items.
It's exactly what it says, it's a Mrble3. You never played Mrbls before?
For real though, who would've expected it to be one of the best items in the game?
@@Caspicum Lord save me from these endless random battles.
I've been getting all the romhacks for a bunch of SNES games I never played as a kid and my god is there a lot of amazing stuff out there. I just got Trials of Mana/SD3 all patched with about 8 different improvement mods and bugfix/balance patches. After this I got FF4 and FF6 ready to go after this video and I am just so hype to finally play these games.
part of the reason I don't necessarily want to go back and play a lot of these games is because of various annoyances about them that were just sort of accepted back in the day but are nigh unforgiveable today (like not having a run button!) and these mods fix just about all of that.
i wish there was a hack of ff6 that had everything, the best translation, uncensored, snes music, and the extra content from the gba version
I like these kinds of videos who showcased other romhacks other than pokemon or fire emblem
Goof Troop Space Treasure was a great time, plenty of puzzles, new theming for the levels, reworked or tweaked bosses, highly highly recommend.
(I know Casp is playing it in the video just wanted to drop the name of the hack)
I only played half of the first level for some generic filler footage. Saving it to stream with a bud! What I play looked great though.
Def gonna check out FF4 Ultima. Thanks for the vid. Btw, FF4, Suikoden, Tactics Ogre...you got great taste in RPGs! =P
Quality taste-have.
7:58 Nice FF VI names
ty ty. got a bit spicy there, but they're all SAFE FOR ADVERTISER GUIDELINES
I gotta play the base game first. It looks good!
Seriously I need that Gargoyles Quest ROM, it would be perfect to play it on a released Wii 🤘
A new budokai tenkaichi just got teased last night. Im so excited.
I didn't even need the romhack. That's crazy, I hope it's good.
Awesome vid! Would love to see more about romhacks!
Wow, I've genuinely not heard of a few of these, very nice video.
Oh and ALUNDRA 2 MUSIC??? SOMEONE ELSE PLAYED THAT GAME TOO??? Well shit, now I gotta subscribe just out of principle.
Oh, my sweet, sweet Brosuke. You under estimate my love for the Alundra series.
I have two romhacks I go back to CONSTANTLY Tetris Rosy Retrospection which just got a color upgrade. And Sonic 3 Complete
WELL WELL WELL. BUDOKAI 4 ISNT REAL HMMMM?? LOL
It's crazy. I still don't believe it.
I've recently gotten into Digimon World 2 alternative, which massively rewrites the script to make a cohesive plot on top of rebalancing all the mons. Random encounters get pretty chonky and arguably more dangerous than the bosses themselves.
I've seen that around, but I'd need a vanilla refresher first!
@@Caspicum heh, I jumped straight in without remembering the vanilla story at all :P
I loved the original Tactics Orge and wasn’t a big fan of Let Us Cling Together so I’ll definitely be trying out that hack! Great video btw.
ty ty! If you ever do get around to trying it, let me know how you go!
You mentioned Brave New World for FF6, but it deserves a proper plug. Really elevates the game to near-perfection, imo.
I can't remember what it was like. I just remember Edgar having two-handed by default, and Espers being locked to certain characters.
@@Caspicum the two-handed property is inherent to spears specifically, and yeah the esper restriction is sort of the cornerstone change of the hack.
Let us know if you ever do play it. I have a soft spot for Aussie streamers.
The term you're looking for is Anamorphic widescreen.
I was thinking anorexic widescreen based on the size of the Gokus but that works too
Recently got into Retro Achievements, and Breath of Fire was on my list. I'll need to do this Rom hack in my 100% playthrough!
There's another hack that changes a lot of stuff, balances the game out a bit better and uses the War of the Goddess re-write. That might be worth looking in to as well!
My mind immediately jumps to Kaizo Mario shit when I hear the term rom hack
KAIZO MORE LIKE
BYE-ZO
@@Caspicum HEYOOOOO GOT EM
"No, Tenkaichi 4 isn't real"
And then a week later..
i’m super gonna have to try these out sometime. thanks for the recommendations!!
Thanks for taking the recommendations! Let me know if you ever get around to it, my friend.

* Order of the Crimson Arm
* Dark Lord and the Maiden of Light
* Shackled Power
* Drums of War
* Dream of Five

4:50 Well that aged well
they finally listened to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I’m genuinely shocked you didn’t even mention a single Pokémon rom hack, when I think about the concept of rom hacks my first thought is always Pokémon
There's too many to sift through, and I don't play much Pokemon. That siad, I'd be open to the best ones.
Neat list of things that most people probably wouldn't notice! It's nice to see some games outside of the usual suspects featured.
I try not to repeat what others say, but it's hard sometimes...
Well, there is a new Budokai Tenkaichi game has been announced haha
I'm gonna take credit for this one. It was entirely my fault, not the developers or the publishers. I did it.
I may try some of these!
If you do, you gotta let me know.
Great recommendations. Really lookiong forward to trying these out, especially the FF IV one
Get back to me if you ever do! I'd love to know what you thought.
you GOTTA get into fire emblem romhacking
Really awesome video.👍 I can't wait to play these games😍. I hope you will make a Part 2. I still don't know which romhacks are worth playing. So it's good to hear other people's opinion.
Honestly, these are pretty much all I'd recommend at this point, but there are as many rom hacks as grains of sand, so you never know!
This got me wondering if there are any Chrono Trigger mods.
Other old games that come to mind are Lufia 2 and Terranigma.
These 3 games defined my childhood.
I've seen mods for Chrono Trigger and Lufia 2, but I don't know about Terranigma. Surely there's something, right?
This is good stuff. Though my personal preference for FF rom hacks tends toward the randomizers.
love me a randomizer. got any recommendations?
Don't forget the Fire emblem games!
Content rich that you wouldn't believe
I gotta get more educated on Fire Emblem, because there's been a lot of comments saying similar things
I have nothing of importance to say, so I’ll just comment to push the vid in the algorithm
I appreciate that. I'm sure you've got something of importance to say, and I look forward to hearing it one day.
@@Caspicum yeah, that makes sense. Probably why when I do look at ROMhacks I tend to avoid JRPG ones.
honestly kinda based tho
Ugh, Brave New World was just a frustrating experience. It had a lot of neat ideas but the trash encounters just got to be too tedious to deal with by about the time you're going to Zozo.
