I love bof 4 it has an awesome story fun battles 3 is also wonderful I like all 4 of these games they all have great unique stories and gameplay it's always a challenge beating a bof game and a journey

Fou-lu is one of the coolest villain in gaming. His sprite+animations are god tier badassness.
He is a antagonist.
I used to put rolls of ducktape around my wrists and pretend I was Fou-Lu. I was a strange kid.

@@willian4428 Yuna was the real villain. Sucks that he gets away with all of his crimes thanks to Capcom rushing the game.

The only thing I miss about being university freshmen - I had all time in the world to play such long games. Now it takes me several weeks to several months to complete one game.

BoF4 can be completed in 30~40h if you know what you are doing. And about 60h for the first playthrough.
Speed runners can do it in less than 10h...
@@vitor900000 sometimes adult gamers don't have time to do that except in holiday season. There's a lot responsibility to do
I got this game when I was in high school. Late 90's/early 2000's were such a great time for RPG's.
One of my favorite RPGs. The story could be a bit kitschy and the camera was annoying but I loved the art style, the combat, Ershin, Fou-Lu's gameplay/story segments, the uniqueness of each dragon, even the fairy village mini game worked as a sort of catharsis. Unfortunate they don't make games like this anymore.
Nice man! Breath of Fire 3 and Breath of Fire 4 were awesome! And back then when I played them no guides or stuff like that. Too bad Capcom decided to stop the series.
its not necesarily a bad thing they stopped the series..you cant have 10 games of the same stuff over and over again, you could mention Resident evil series to me, but that series, for me, died after RE4. At RE5 and forward it becamse less of what it was (terror) and took a newer setting and approach (action) while also making the whole story more convoluted and twisting.
To continue the series it was a neccesary a change of course, but those old timers like me who got used to the feeling of the first RE games, its all out of the box and meant for the new generations better.
I am glad to consider BOF4 the last game, although there exists BOF 5 (weird different settings) and 6 (the one that shouldnt have existed xD).
@@kaiserdragon33 The truth is that RPG's don't sell. Sure Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest always go good but come on, these are the Top Tier stuff.
Sometimes others do sell but NOT Turn Based Ones. Even the FInal Fantasy series stepped away from Turn Based. I mean only Pokemon can keep doing this and even that because it is Pokemon and everyone knows it.

Only complaint I have with this game is that Yuna doesn't die. Other than that, I love this game.
IIRC the devs were going to make him the final big bad, but ran out of dev time for that.
It would make sense, as Ryu’s strongest sword that can be stolen from Fou-Lu during the boss fight, and it serves no real purpose if Fou-Lu is the last boss.
I’d love to see the game get a remaster with some DLC or additional content to tell that story. Possibly also some “what if scenarios” too, IE what if Fou-Lu had saved Mami instead, etc.

Thank you SO much for doing this! Such an underrated series! The first 4 are classics of the golden age of JRPGs and while BOF3 is typically the fan favorite, 4 has such a gorgeous art direction and distinct music score that really stands apart from the series. Plus I think Capcom really mastered the battle system for the series in this entry. Such a shame the series derailed hard with the 5th and 6th one.

man, this sounds great - whilst i've obviously seen a billion spoilers here, I reckon I saw them all so fast that i've not processed the majority of them and will most will likely be forgotten when I come around to playing this - so should still be able to enjoy it. Great stuff and this is definitely going on my to-do list :)
Oh my god, this brings back memories. I must have been 11 or 12 when i first played this game (which is 14-15 years ago). I sunk 100+ hours into this game (so much time spent farming fishing points since beating the final boss the right way was pretty much impossible if you didn't power level your characters at end game). Though some of the games mechanics havent aged well (Most people would say fishing is terrible), the story is very well done, and the masters system allows you to really customize your characters. I may actually go back and do another play through of it. Fantastic game for those of you who have never played it. Would recommend!

For me, good villains almost always need to feel tied to the hero in order for the conflict to feel meaningful; in this, Breath of Fire 4 truly stands out.

BoF 1-4, such an underrated series. I was glad that I played all of them during its actual release years. Never regret it ones. This series deserve top places but alas.

There are two alternate endings based upon Ryu’s acceptance of Fou-Lu’s terms: 1) Fou-Lu defeats Nina’s party and destroys the world; 2) the theoretical scenario where Fou-Lu gets defeated, though I can’t seem to make that happen.

great game but when i'm kid i stuck at 4:26 this freaking grassland without seeing any camp , back then doesn't have any guide or internet access , i only able to ply till that part everytime but this doesn't stop me to love this game . art music tip top

The game that got me into RPGs. Not my first RPG that goes to Pokemon but BOF 4 was the one that made me think differently about gaming.

I was totally wrong I apologize for my ignorance Breath of Fire 5 has came out a long time ago Breath of Fire 6 is out ad a mobile game and I miss both of them. Here's to the hope for a another full-fledged Breath of Fire game!!
@00Nowhereman thanks for replying, to me this is incredibly bad news at least a mobile game means they're thinking about Breath of Fire but since it's already failed thats just sad. Capcom is a company that I used to respect but it's made a lot of bad choices lately. You may be right this may be the death of Breath of Fire. :(

I love the storyline in this game. I love the music (ESPECIALLY the pre-menu cutscene), and I love the magic combo system in combat. But there are enough things that i dislike (like the decision to go 3D for bosses instead of keeping sprites) that I will always enjoy Breath of Fire III more. I love the art style more in that game, as well as the gene system being superior to the dragon powers in 4.

If it really had finished properly and wasn't this short, it likely would've been the best in the franchise. I mean it's already a great game with an interesting story, this version's Nina is the cutest in design, probably.
But I have several gripes about this game. As I said it was short, probably thanks to editing out Elina's subplot whose promptly forgotten after the first trip to Fou Empire, and a creep like Marlok and a sociopath like Yuna getting away scott free. And I kinda wish this was open world instead of a map based in exploration.
Still overall enjoyed it pretty much.

Loved BoF 4 but 3 for me was best in the series. Spent many hours/days of my life playing 3. Teepo remains the best character of all
BoF4 was a great story, but BoF3 felt more like a personal adventure. I also liked BoF3 more

AFter playing the game a couple times, but mainly returning to breath of fire 3, after 12 years of playing these games, i can tell they where VERY dark!
There was a lot of death in BOF games, i only know those of 3 and 4 because i barely remember 1 and 2 since i played them only once each.
These games where not really meant for kids.. even though i can realize that when i was a kid those details slipped by me being amazed of the graphics and combat system while paying less attention to what was actually happening.

No recapitation for part 2 or 3?
At the time I played the original this was the first videogame to make me cry, and is the only game I have never replayed. The story was well written for me and I really hated Yuna, I hate everything he did, and the very ending. Still a great game, I still own the original.
Loved this game, mentally I tried to place it in the standard timeline before bof1 but I gave up and accepted it as its own thing.
Though I would say if it did, that deis was the same, and myria was another endless attempt or perhaps the result of trying to get deis her own body.
Either way, I enjoyed the villains very much this game, and especially the carronade.... that thing is all kinds of messed up.
As much as I like this game, it should have been its own game. It doesn't share the connection like BoF 1-3 had with each other.

Lol, you complain that to this game while BoF5 doesn't has anything with the 4 previous games. BoF4 doesn't need a resemblance or connection with the 3 games, but their story still connected. Well, for me it's more like it happen in the different continents than in the maps shown in 1-3. Like it was in the eastern part of the world while 1-3 happen in the western side of the world.

Can you make one about BoF 5 Dragon Quarter? I am sure people will love the storyline of that game and appreciate it more, that game is so underrated...

They made a BREATH OF FIRE game, where the point is to transform into a dragon, and the more you Morph into your Dragon form, the quicker you die...
How does any of this make sense?...
Its like you loose max hp each time you level up a Materia in FF7, or you loose the game when you go stealthy in a MGS game, its bonkers...
And it was so claustrophobic and cramped, been constantly underground and having to go your way up...
BoF 5 was the worst, the story was un-interesting and inane, the setting was good if it was a 2 hours quest, NOT the whole game scenario, and the Dragonform systeme was barren and just worked against you...

they used a sweet old lady as a sacrifice to fire a magical cannon once... Is George RR Martin trying his hands on pg13 stories now LOL.
