WHAT ON EARTH! Doing proper repaint preparation by spending 95% of your time removing and scraping the old mess. PRIMING for gods sake, like you knew what was up! Loving it, you two are doing a right proper job of it, wonderful to see and the result will last many years.

You're within spitting distance of 100k subs! Congrats. A proper paint job is at least 90% prep. The actual application of coating(s) is almost anticlimactic. As usual, you presented us with great content. Thanks! See you next week.

How things have changed with the years . When I was fixing up 70's English fibreglass sportscars, these sorts of matierials , (thickened epoxy etc) simply weren' t invented .
How much easier it would have made my life back then :) But I always tried to avoid painting my nuts :)
Yeah I'm on a learning curve too. I'm building a fiberglass nose for my streamliner & learned about micro bubbles.
pro trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. Been using it for watching all kinds of movies these days.
Aaahhh Yes....scrape, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand......and then you paint and find another hole and ask yourself "How the flaming heck (or words to that effect) did I miss that?". Thanks for the recurring nightmares!!.
Really enjoying this refit series. Mirrool will be better than new when you two are finished with her.
By the way....I've finally booked the transport...transport to boatyard towards the end of October depending on permits etc, launch end of October / beginning of November. Now the pressure is on.

Stir-Cam! Lol! Great point about removing nuts and washers for most complete paint seal. I'll bet you're glad she's no bigger than 30ft! Great prep work guys!
Troy, it is to late on that boat. If you get another boat when you paint inside use gel coat!!!!! It does cost more and it is harder to get on right. But it’s much tougher and will stay nice much much longer. It cleans up better. It’s 3 xs more indestructible as paint.
It will not peel off like paint if you apply it properly.
I have to admire both of your resilience and practical know how. Yeh for Pascy and Troy.
I was waiting for you to show the painting of the faces of the "shelf" in the front berth. My OCD kicked in and I keep thinking about those two long, thick, unpainted surfaces that run the length of the berth! lol :D
Ah. That surface is bare to receive epoxy as part of a nice timber trim. Coming soon!
That makes sense now. I was wondering the same thing. I figured there might be timbers screwed-on with plugs covering the screw holes. I didn't think of epoxy.
Mate, you better have your OCD locked up while watching these videos. Barely anything's gonna be near perfect i assure!

Isn’t it amazing how much better something can look with a fresh coat of paint. I have friends who have made good living fixing up and repainting washers and dryers. They say the worse it looks at the start the better the profit. Many of the machines they got were free or they paid less than $10 for. After going through the mechanics and repainting them they were able to sell them for no less than $100. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
That's a big job, working in that climate could be far better than in tropical regions, when ever working in side boats tend to get heat stress, well done.

That International HT4500 is super awesome stuff. After I used it for the first time, went back to my boat the next day and was blown away with how good it is.
You should be very proud of yourselves, a cracking job, and how lovely to see your boat so white and airy looking. Can't wait to see the finished result.

I live in a hottish place. We call 13 celsius winter. Yesterday was 43C can't do shit in 43C. Caulk gun insta mix epoxy adhesive cures before it leaves the tube. There was a lot of sanding in that lesson. We should read the label and believe. It's only 5 degrees over, it'll be all right, doesn't work.
It's looking awesome. Awaiting the next instalment.

just got done painting all the trim and soffits on my house here in the hottest part of the summer here in Virginia...wish i could've had you two here to help me😁
Seeing the amount of preparation you have put in took me back to being a very young child on top of a ladder learning to "chip paint" with my dad so he could paint the eaves and soffit on our house. Mom came home from shopping and freaked out! There was her baby boy on top of an eight foot ladder covered in paint chips, lead paint chips. Yeah I'm that old, lead paint, asbestos insulation and flooring. Yup, she freaked. Glad you kept the paint off your nuts by golly. While you're living with 13 degrees today is the first time in months below 40 here. Stay well kids.

"Because it's a boat it takes one day to do any little thing" ....I say that with mountain bikes...and tractors, and combines, and harvesters, and furniture, and any small minute fix, or anything that should, I say should take a few minutes to repair. Life is grand!
I go to work on my boat and the same happens...nice day, by myself, no wife, no kids, sitting in the cockpit with a take away coffee, gazing across the marina, not much gets done, but hey... I can't complain.
Well.. I learnt something today. I've often heard northern hemisphere people talk about de-natured alcohol and I didn't know it was just good old plain metho. Things looking good guys - glad to see that some good has come out of this lockdown period .. winter in Tassie seems like not a bad place to be stuck doing such a refit - weather wise anyway.
You make even the boring boat stuff interesting. I like the editing that is an explanation the fast action painting. Not only would real time painting be dull, but the fast forward provides an interesting perspective where you can see the difference. Well done. Oh and a question. I didn’t see many masks in use, I’d have thought paint fumes in an enclosed space would have made that necessary.
Water based paint.. no fumes.
So satisfying watching the paint go on :)

I did the same thing to a 33 foot sloop 20 years ago but used flow coat and a stipple roller. It turned out well but what a horrible job grinding the whole interior surface. Never again. Good effort guys.

Refits always takes longer than expected. I’m into mine a year and a half now. I’m still another year out every bit.But that’s working on it on average two days a week some times more some times less. You both made a good decision renting a place while doing your rebuild I know that’s been nice going home to a clean bed every night .
I can't wait to see the finished product !
In case you do not know and have not already put the final coats on. Paints were more toxic in the past than they are today and the exterior paints don't inhibit mould like they used to. There are mould inhibitors that you can add to paint that you may want to look at.

You are really upping your photo and editing skills. Proper use of areal use as an establishing shot. Clear evidence of you thinking about framing your shots. Now that you are reaching the expert level you might consider looking into a tilt-shift lens and see if it is applicable.

It’s a such a big job why would you not use two part epoxy style paint? Super hard and will last forever..I got my from axonoble and it is amazing. You do need a proper respirator as the fumes are just deadly. 😎

Great job restoring boats is hard work and time consuming z I restored two Victory 21 foot. Sailboat’s and two powerboats . Paint motor and installing dive swim platform.

My old boss in the boatyard used to say ' make sure that the last coat of paint or varnish is perfect because it will be the undercoat next time you paint!'
Looking good....last time I used paint stripper it took 2 weeks to remove 12 layers of primer/paint, 2 days with sand blaster..lol
