I have never seen them carved before but I think it will work well on the fruit I have growing on my tree. Turns out the fruit is inedible. I think they planted it from a hybrid seed and I ended up with a root stock tree. Thick skin, too many seeds, handles freezing pretty well. Like a small, thick skinned, bad example of a yellow fleshed grapefruit. But they smell great! I decided to make pomanders and saw what I think was one of your pictures that had been highjacked but I traced it down and found you! Thank you! You are appreciated!
When I was a young child my mother and I used to make these, only we completely covered the oranges with cloves, then we wrapped them in scrap fabric and hung in all the closets.
These are gorgeous. I'm trying most of your craft ideas! I always got an orange in my stocking as a child, excited to have a way to use oranges this yule (other than the peels in my decorations) 🌲❤
Wow what a great idea! I’m planning to do my holiday decorations in oranges browns and earth tones this year. These Pomanders will make a perfect addition! I do have a fairly large tree and some other spaces to fill. I wonder, do you think grapefruit would work too?
I made a pomander one year. It was very fun and magickal. I think I just might make some this Yule. Thanks for reminding me about them. Also where'd you find that green ribbon??? It's gorgeous!!!
I poke cloves in oranges every year but i never thought about "carving" the skins, what a neat idea! :)
Definitely will do this for the holidays. In Florida we have an abundance of oranges 🍊

any citrus fruit should work.

I tried one this year. Any suggestions on how to prevent them from molding?
lots of cloves, keep it warm and dry. Hang it near the oven if you are baking or near a heater vent. It will dry faster.
Do they ever get moldy? Never made one in my life.
There is a chance they could go moldy. Keep them warm and dry as they dry out. They can last for years if they dry well.
😀💖
