Even grid method is best than your easiest method .
I am saying this as an artist of 33 years experience(my hardwork and intrest on art)

Everything comes with practice. I am practicing from last 25 years and I am 27 years old And from last 2.5 years I draw mostly freehand and with help of Loomis method.
But for beginners I found drawing so many grids on paper again on app is very hectic and on the other hand this method is easier and can be used in any type of surface in any shape
So from my point of view it's largely useful than grids
