Thanks for this Jon! I've been looking for a way to add extra storage BUT I have an iphone13 promax, which has a lightning connector. You think this would work if I get a lightning to USBC adapter?
Thank you!🙏🏾 I don’t have the DJI OM4 but it looks like it’s very close. You can also push your phone up a bit (off centered) so you gave enough space. What phone do you have?
The native camera app will automatically recognize the SSD when you shoot in ProRes. You can't take photos directly onto SSD BUT maybe there's a 3rd party app for that.
Nice clear video. Thank you! Im wondering what protective case you are using on your iPhone? The Nimbus case that I have on my phone does not allow for a secure connection between the phone and the lear Go Drive.
@@JonImperialyes, let’s see how well it performs if used on a daily basis ‘cos I saw a little controversy about that around some reviews. It was this or crucial 10 pro but opted for this one for its (extra) minimalism. Which one do you use most daily? (if not this)
The DJI Mini that was just released is a bit smaller in terms of the received foot print. This is technically my rig. I ordered a cage from SmallRig to be able to use filters bit that is about it.
@@and16942 I get why you would say that but other alternatives are priced similarly and they don’t have the hub or the reliability that Lexar brings. 😊
Preordered my Lexar GoHub with a 1TB SSD about a month ago. It finally arrived yesterday. DOA. The SSD does not seat properly into the hub nor into any USB-C port on my MacBook Pro or Mac Studio. Amazon return DONE! Sad that Lexar couldn't catch a defective USB-C connector in a QC process.
For some reason the visual quality of the Pro Res doesn't like me too much, it's a little bit dark and oversaturated for my taste. The Lexar SSD seems to be nice though.
It has a 30w pass through. You can use a power bank to charge your device. The point is, if you already have an iPhone, why spend the extra $$$ to get a mirrorless IF you don’t need it? For some use cases, the iPhone will be more than enough… for others, I agree, they’ll be better off with an actual camera.
The fact that none of this would have been possible if Apple hadn't shifted to USB-c, the flexibility of type c is really amazing.
Seriously!!! Apple moving to USB-C really helps the tech community move forward as a whole. 🙌🏾
Great video Jon. Got the same setup going! Can't wait to film more day in the life stuff and to take full advantage of that ProRes 120 FPS ✌🏻

Have watched a number of videos about this setup, and yours is the clearest. Thanks.
@@chrislrob I’m glad to hear that!! 🙏🏾 Did you get one? 😊
@ Waiting for Black Friday. Hoping there's a sale!
I’ve created this setup in my own way and man it’s so nice, shoutout to lexar
They did a great job!!
What accessories are you using? 😊
Awesome video! Love the minimalist setup but am wondering if there's space when I attach my iphone to my dji om4?
Thank you!🙏🏾

after afixing the Lexar Go, how do i direct my recorded content; photos and videos into the Lexar instead of my iPhone internal memory?

What’s the phone case that you use? My current one is too thick and I can’t plug in the pssd
I’ve used plenty of cases with it. 😊

I was using this! bit.ly/4gYutdk
No issues at all.
Do you have Hohem isteady m7 gimbal? Would love to know if the lexar ssd+hub+mic would fit ok with the said gimbal.
I usually shoot lots of photos during trips. Can these 'still photos' stored directly to Lexar SSD ? instead of iPhone Photos folder . Thanks
Unfortunately, I have not found an app that will let you save photos directly to the SSD. 🥲 that would be awesome.
How were you able to connect it to the Blackmagic camera app? Mine won’t recognize it’s plugged in
You gotta change the settings to save to SSD. It doesn’t automatically switch. 😬
Just got my Lexar 1TB, thanks for recommending.
Awesome! I hope you love it!
What are you thinking of doing with it? 😊
best overall video on the subject. i've watched dozens. you're the man. you actually answer our questions. tks :D

Is it well balanced when you are using insta360 flow pro with lexar? Can it be turn into vertical mode when using insta flow pro? Thank you
Yes! No issues! 😊

Hi if i record normal video will it automatically get into ssd or only for pro res
Works with 120 fps?
Yes! The Lexar Go Portable SSD works with the iPhone 16 Pro and is compatible with 4K 120FPS
Yes it does!! 🙌🏾

Does the Lexar ssd device get hot after one hour of filming ? Thanks
@@PNguyen-ku6uf it gets warm, not hot.
with on/off shooting.
BUT if you’re talking one hour straight recording? I have not tested it. 😊
The lexar is really aesthetically pleasing. Looks great. But it’s so freakin expensive for a ssd + hub

Ohhh bummer. It’s such a nice product and I don’t have that issue with mine. Did you get something else?

LOL. Thanks for the comment!! 😊
Pro Tip: Do not use the SSD as a grip. You will damage the connection ports of both the the iPhone and the SSD it self.
Instead, use something like the smallrig handle grip SSD enclosure. That is way smarter buddy
I guess it's more of a hand "rest" that a "grip".
I don't rely on it to hold the phone.
