Question, the sedan has a flat bottom steering whilst the hatchback doesn't.. is that optional?

why didn't you mention the drastic drop in quality compared to the previous model?
it is quite evident but you have not mentioned it, very strange since you have always been careful about build quality.
This generation compared to the old one has less these things:
- No plastic trim around windows leaving exposed body paint inside
- Soft touch interiour plastics all over the place, ALSO in the second row (now hard, in the previous model were soft)
- Hard plastics on the door cars in the back (previous was soft)
- No carpet under the spare wheel
- One single (badly placed) LED in the boot-space (there were two very well placed leds on the left and right side)
- Volume knob replace with a gimmick that only works with motion gesture
- No chrome handle on glove box or handbrake button (now plastic)
- No turn-signal indicator on the inside of the side-mirrors
- Real leather miss on various often touched arm-rest surfaces
- Loosing the MMI controller with touch/zoom/write/dial/push controls is a big one for me
This new model sadly does not match the old model's build quality thanks to VW's cost cutting.
What do you expect? him to tell the truth? He's the same guy who talks badly against Alfa, Mazda...etc Man I sat inside Audi A1, boy the quality was worse than KIA. Audi A3 is badly made too. All the cheap plastics and flimsy assemblies inside the cabin. The gearbox takes the cake for being so nasty.

@@Falto90 Big part of selling cars is done by these channels advertising for certain brands and bringing down other brands.
My 2017 Audi S3 Nano Grey with Black Optic Looks way better...i don't like the fake exhaust, car is too big, Digital Cockpit does't look nice, and rear air thing on bumper looks terrible and lastly, the Volume control in the front. sucks but then again..that's my opinion;))

@@ctmone Yeah, it's true. It's ridiculous. I've seen a review of the new Lamborghini Huracan and this car sounds like a F1 racing car! If you've ever been close to a racing track, where F1 cars pass by, you know what I'm talking about 😂 Even the reviewer said 'I don't know how this is legal'. It's like they make laws for the super rich and laws for the rest. I hope people realize in time what a corrupt and money wasting entity this is.

The small boot space (325 litres) is a real deal-breaker for the S3 sedan, don’t you think?
Especially for a small family it is simply not enough.
Great video once again guys thank you Thomas and team! I love the front and sides of the car exterior but don't like the back lights. I prefer the more U shape lights like on the 2014 model rather than the really pointy sharp edge design

The only defect I find for this lovely car (apart of its price 😅) are those air vents in the cockpit. Really, the engineers weren’t able to find another solution for putting them ?? Great review, as always!!!!

I was planning to replace my 2018 S3 with the new Golf R when the time comes in a few years, but now this new S3 has me rethinking that.

@@fxkraft1037 yep my colleague had his S3 less than a year (~7k miles) and 80 miles from home, when his auto box failed
This new generation is well made, but this performance version is also too expensive, so i'll consider other brands for the price! inside air vents to big, hatchback for fun, sedan for comfort, overall good looking! Always a good Thomas review!

Aside from the colour of your tester I quite like the look of the hatch sportback.
Did you find the steering wheel feel to be satisfactory? To me the rim of the steering wheel looks to be not quite thick/padded enough. Perhaps camera optics?

Shame the sound is a bit dull but overall very nice car! I also like the new air vents. Finally something interesting and new in the interior
I never used to care about Audi all that much, but nowadays I prefer them to BMWs. If every car is going to be AWD with a turbo 4 cylinder, then I might as well get on board with the best looking ones.
@Joe Kinchicken yeah these new BMWs are not even boring, they are quiet obviously not as good as older models. The e90 was the last truly good bmw 3series generation, for instance. Of the current BMW lineup, I only like the 2series coupe.

The air vents which close as you adjust direction are a deal breaker for me. Literally cannot compromise on that detail.

I really enjoy the look of the sportback and I wish we got it here in North America. The S3 sedan looks really nice but unfortunately the headroom in the backseat is a dealbreaker.

Outside I prefer the previous model and interior prefer the physical buttons of the old one.

I don't notice the RS3 being stiffer or exhibit more discomfort or anything really. It's just overall a better car, if money isn't a concern. The only thing I can ding the RS3 for is that it does not look enough. It still looks mostly like an A3...like an S3.
The sedan absolutely looks more composed than the hatch this time. Still, I think the inevitable mid-cycle refresh of this car is going to be leaps and bounds better. Word is that the Golf R is actually getting a more powerful engine than the hold-over engine in this S3, as well as some trick suspension components. Those things will invariably make their way into the Audi S3 after the RS3 gets some of them first, and I also suspect the interior will be re-jiggered a bit so some of the doofy choices (like the audio volume touchpad and these ridiculous vents) are remedied with superior solutions. The lighting elements and fascias will also return to a more refined and elegant appearance from their current gauche form.
TL;DR: wait for 2023-2024 to get a new S3, or get the last of the outgoing model.
P.S. Your phone looks like a piece of toast with that case.
It's a shame that Audi UK isn't on board with the whole sustainability thing. Leather, leather, everywhere.

Would be nice if the S3 went more luxurious, like leatherette door and dash considering the prices and that the RS3 is the ultra sport version.

Thomas I’m not one for the crossover crowd there’s enough of them already so to be totally different a nice new sporty 2 door Audi S3 would be perfect, except there aren’t any! They tell us there’s no demand for 2 door cars but the comments all over youtube there are plenty of us that want them. Young guys/gals want 2 doors they look way cooler but instead we end up looking like we have a famiileeee! and people actually assume that I want to give them a lift like I’m a taxi or something!
everyone wants them but nobody can pay for them, thats why they are gone!

On my RSQ3 Sportback I can't score better than 9,0l/100Km. However, it's hard to drive that car slowly. 😅
Bought a S3 earlier this year, I think the previous generation looks better both interior and exterior. The new interior looks too much alike to the mk8 Golf, the previous generation exterior has sharper body lines.

Al T I didn’t say the golf is the better deal, I said the interior design is similar (layout, shifting lever).

VAG CEOs were all agreed that they had to cut costs.. It looks like Audi won the coin toss to see who won all the buttons
So I guess the fact this comes with a hydraulic hood strut kind of kills the pedestrian safety excuse used for the mk8 Golf having a manual prop rod.
Good point! Some VW bulls...t they are trying to sell us. Skoda Octavia has also hydrolic strut.
Sadly there is no longer a Convertible in the new A3/S3 range!
Active sound on interior does not sound like 4cyl, maybe rather 5cyl sound? I do understand the point of active sound. However it should match closely with the actual engine sound. This sounds just distracting and wrong.
