You are right. I live in Leeds and I visiting Scarborough at least once a year for 20 years now for a short break. Summers are great there, but winters are not bad as well. It is not so crowded, but the seaside atmosphere is still good. Town businesses are closing, but it happens everywhere. Good day Lee! Sadly the economic situation worldwide means shuttered businesses most anywhere you go. Any sort of specialty shops are first to fall, as people cut back on spending to simply survive. You speak the truth about bad places. My hometown is notorious, can be considered very dangerous to the naive, and it is. In bad times criminalty flourishes everywhere, sad fact of life. You leave me wanting Chinese. Wonderful walkabout, thank you!
Hi Lee. I live near L.A., I'd pick Scarborough anytime over L.A. day or night. If I could afford it I would love to visit "The Great Britain". So Thanks for taking me along with you.
@codeblack3026 I do understand what you mean, but they have a park and ride now , so for £5 all day you can park your car on the outskirts of Scarborough and they will bring you in on the bus 🚌 and they run this service quite frequently throughout the day like they do at York and Whitby so no need to use half a gallon (under 2 litres) of petrol looking for a cheap parking space near to the sea front Every time I go to Whitby and York, I always use this service it is a lot less stressful Monks Cross Park and Ride just off the A19 coming from the North at York is the one that I use 🏴
I used to live in Scarborough in the late 60s and early 70s. It was a beautiful place, safe, vibrant, even elegant. I hardly recognised it the last time I visited in 1998 and I can see it has declined even further since then. Such a terrible shame, but I'm afraid it's a reflection of the decline of the UK as a whole.
You must be a wealthy man to even consider two portions of fish and chips in one day. I'm a pensioner and try to treat myself to my favourite meal (fish and chips ) once a month.
@@EtonieE25 Suggest that you go to a fish shop and price your fish. Then add on rent, insurance, wages, staff overheads, business rates and the high cost of gas for cooking the fish and chips and electricity for other equipment.
A really interesting vlog Lee, i admire you for your honesty, some channels do go to lots of towns in the UK and purely focus on the deprived and run down parts of the particular town wheras you have shown all sides of the town and just being yourself and more importantly being honest - thanks for sharing this vlog and me and my family think Scarborough is a good seaside place to visit and appeals to all ages
Hi Lee I never thought of that I’ve been on a plane falling asleep leaning against the window on way back from the states and some cheeky sod woke me up saying they can’t see out the window , great video by the way 👍
The music you use from about 6 minutes in is the most distruring thing I've heard in years! It's not a criticism. I found it hilarious. It sounds like something from an eary 1970's Ken Loach film! Keep up the great work Lee!
I visited Scarborough last year and in all honesty I didn't find it all that bad. The shopping centre was clean and orderly and the sea front and old town was a pleasure to stroll around. I'd visit again if staying nearby.
OFC the shops are boarded up. rents are astromical and so are council taxes. then parking costs a fortune. the internet greedy landlords and greedy councils are to blame.
What rubbish! I live in Scarborough and I can state that people are NOT scared to go out after dark. Show me a town that has no boarded up shops in the UK. So easy to point out the negative aspects of a place for clickbait.
It's the same as any other town centre. If you look for trouble, you'll find it. If you just walk and do your thing, nothing will happen. I've visited once or twice a year all my life (grandparents lived on Newlands Avenue in the 80's + 90's). Walked from friend's at Falsgrave back to Newlands at 1am in the morning a million times. Nothing ever happened.
Glad I watched this vid, stayed in Bridlington in Feb and kept going over to Scarborough. Never saw the sun set when I was there, it was either already dark or sunny/heavy rain! Hoping to go back in Nov to see the lightning seeds, but with a 3 year old who knows!
Enjoyed this one very much, Nary a whinge in sight, Well done. And i think you can notice the problems in these places without sensationalizing them, Which you did. You nearly got my sub with this one.
The gentleman from Askin's (gentleman in the true sense) obviously saw Lee's camera and desperately tried to entice him in. That shows REAL confidence in what he is offering. He probably knows that some UA-camrs can be highly discerning (that's not a criticism, but some fancy themselves as Jay Rayner 😉). I would have gone straight in. Great PR work, sir! 😊 Nice shout out to Bernard Cribbins, the phrase "national treasure" is overused, but he was one.
Both Kam Samg and Askim are fantastic places to eat and the staff are really friendly. I bloody love Scarborough, i agree its not the place it was when I was a kid in the 80's but I love it all the same

Good Evening Lee. I totally agree with you Lee. Scarborough is not the Worst Seaside Resort in the British Isles. What better to go for a Lovely Mooch through the backstreets of this rather nice Seaside Town. I really did Like your video about the Grand Hotel of Scarborough. The Hotel just needs a Big Hotel Chain to come in and Fully Restore this Incredible Building. Somebody, like the Hilton Hotel Group. Bring it back to how it used to Look like back in the day but much better. Sadly places have had to close, lack of Money, Investment and just know Financial Support and Help from the Local Council and Government. What does one have of an Evening in Scarborough. You chose very Well Lee. i really liked the Kam Sang Chinese Restaurant. Lee, I really did like your Lemon Chicken with the Fluffy White Rice, and to Wash it down. Two very Lovely chilled Pints of Johns Smith Smooth Bitter. The Perfect meal for the Perfect Gentleman of an Evening in Scarborough. Glad you Enjoyed your meal and beer Lee. Very Good value for your money. Thank you very much for sharing your video Lee.
Looking at this place, I am so glad I live down in the southwest in Devon. Just discovered your channel I have to say it's very good👍hope to see you come down here in the near future.
Quite a few years since i went to Scarborough, i love the sea front and harbour, we mainly walked around the seafront which was really nice and go into the gift and souvineer shops, its well over 10 years since i went
We like Scarborough, a lot of seaside towns have some rundown areas away from the sea front…but Scarborough no worse than many. Great you found Kam Sang, been twice and it was great 😀👍
That train shop has been there forever. There usedcto be a coin slot in one of the widows. When you put in a coin, an animated doll dressed as a Scotsman playing bagpipes started to move to bagpipe music. A Loch Ness Monster reared up out of what looked like a swamp. It was there for years and my children loved to watch it. Even as I've got older, a have to have a go. Don't know if it's still there as I've not been past recently.
I visited the resort several times when camping in the area with the kids years ago. A wonderful area we found. Not been back for many years. Many seaside towns have been affected by illegal immigration with crime.., i come from a seaside town of Margate. They have had problems but it's managed to overcome..
I was in Scarborough last year for a day trip as I was staying in Whitby. It’s sad to see it declining as I was there in 2012 and it was so busy back then! Managed to get up to the castle for a peak which was nice

You can blame the internet and on-line shopping for the number of closed down shops. People don't bother to go out shopping like they used to do, any more. It's easier and more convenient to buy stuff on-line. It's only the large companies and food chain-stores that get by, now. Unsurprisingly, the Chinese restaurant you went to was very Anglicised. I'm sure the sweet and sour was rather sweet and cutlery was provided by default. Still, it's what the public want.
Great video and entertaining. Ots what we all feel when we wander around these once great holiday places. You were honest, and not too brutal. Food looked good also. I enjoy your videos immensely
We used to do coach holidays Monday to Friday or a 4 day weekend. The hotels were always ok, and were probably very nice 100 years ago. But times have changed, people want power showers that work, WiFi, tv and much better service and decent food. I only do premier inn now at least you can expect a certain level of accommodation/service, but that does appear to be slipping abit in some rooms.
Yes Bernard Cribbens got the advert job off his role as the Station Master on the film 📽️ The Railway 🚂 Children... 💕 Jenny Agutter ....Grand Hotel 🛏️ can't be that bad if you're going back 😂
I have lived in Scarborough all my life and avoid the town centre and tourist beach, I generally visit further up the coast as we have some gorgeous unspoilt coastline and countryside with stunning views that thankfully Dean and Chaz the chavs doesn't visit.
Everywhere boarded up shops, yes there are out of town malls \soulless by free car parking. So with an INCREASED POPULATION and we also shop online now, WHY ARE SO MANY SHOPS CLOSED?
Hi Lee, arrived in Sydney 24 hours ago, 26 degrees today, not bad to say it's their spring time. Enjoy Scarbodos as it's not all that bad !! Maybe I should have done a vlog of my upcoming cruise up to Cairns! Enjoy your content as always, keep up the good work.
Loved your video, I'm an ex pat living in New Zealand for the last 45 years, I have fond memories of Scarborough, as we used to have some of our family holidays there, I hope one day to visit again. Something you might be interested in, apparently Adolf Hitler told his bomber pilots not to bomb the Grand Hotel as he wanted to use it as a headquarters once he was in England, not sure if that's true or not, but there you go. ?
That shop for sale. How do customers get there? Only parking for two cars opposite. Further small bay down street. Both with pay machines. Double yellow lines everywhere. Its the same in most towns and getting worse. The councils are killing the high streets with all these restrictions. Loading bays, for delivery of stock to the shops, limited times only. Its a mess, or is it deliberate. Turn the buildings into flats, we must go to the new superstores outside of town to shop. Gone are the small person businesses. Greedy superstores and developer's laughing all the way to the banks. Only my opinion of course.
On a lighter note, John Smith’s is my personal favorite UK bitter, having discovered it over 20 years ago. They don’t sell it here in the US anymore so I smuggle some home in my suitcase every time I cross the pond.
I absolutely loved Scarborough back in the seventies and eighties. Took the kids for short breaks in the nineties and early two thousands. Still occasionally visit. It's the same old story I'm afraid. It's often cheaper to go abroad. Why is that? In my opinion, the local councils need to take a long hard look at themselves. They pedestrianised everywhere and made parking expensive. The energy companies are making everyone pay through the nose. Rents have shot up. Everyone is buying online. People don't use cash anymore......they present their bloody phone or watch. That's just for starters. People, we asked for this so we can't really grumble. Anyhow, I can feel a trip to Scarborough coming on.....just need to persuade my wife.
Please tell me any town or city in the UK that has prospered from immigration. I travelled for many many years with my job and seen the decline of man seaside towns and cities including LONDON which I first went to in 1972.

@codeblack3026 I do understand what you mean, but they have a park and ride now , so for £5 all day you can park your car on the outskirts of Scarborough and they will bring you in on the bus 🚌 and they run this service quite frequently throughout the day like they do at York and Whitby so no need to use half a gallon (under 2 litres) of petrol looking for a cheap parking space near to the sea front
Every time I go to Whitby and York, I always use this service it is a lot less stressful
Monks Cross Park and Ride just off the A19 coming from the North at York is the one that I use 🏴
Oh my God I was in Scarborough 1998 ( last time I went) you didn’t see a load of 20 something piss heads causing havoc on the sea front did you ?
You must be a wealthy man to even consider two portions of fish and chips in one day. I'm a pensioner and try to treat myself to my favourite meal (fish and chips ) once a month.
Love Rachel Reeves!
Can't blame Rachel Reeves for this been going up and up since brexit Labour's only been in government about 6 weeks
@@franknightingale6116 bless you
@@franknightingale6116 Lets face it Northern seaside towns have been going down the pan for the last 20 years or so.
Hi Lee I never thought of that I’ve been on a plane falling asleep leaning against the window on way back from the states and some cheeky sod woke me up saying they can’t see out the window , great video by the way 👍
Lol
Chuckled to myself, I thought you were spooning the rice straight on table!! Didn't realise it was a plate! LOL! SPECSAVERS!
What rubbish! I live in Scarborough and I can state that people are NOT scared to go out after dark.
Show me a town that has no boarded up shops in the UK. So easy to point out the negative aspects of a place for clickbait.
You mean like I said in the video!
Joined Steven's livestream for the turning on of the illuminations x
What a shame..so sad to see now. Guess it’s happening everywhere. Love to watch the evening walks Lee, really enjoyed it :)
Try the north side next time you visit Lee. Cracking old pub called the Old Scalby Mills pub. Would make for a great video around there too.
Being a Yorkshire lad spent many happy hours in Scarborough whitby Bridlington filey.
Great vlog again, Lee
The gentleman from Askin's (gentleman in the true sense) obviously saw Lee's camera and desperately tried to entice him in.
That shows REAL confidence in what he is offering. He probably knows that some UA-camrs can be highly discerning (that's not a criticism, but some fancy themselves as Jay Rayner 😉).
I would have gone straight in. Great PR work, sir! 😊
Nice shout out to Bernard Cribbins, the phrase "national treasure" is overused, but he was one.
Both Kam Samg and Askim are fantastic places to eat and the staff are really friendly. I bloody love Scarborough, i agree its not the place it was when I was a kid in the 80's but I love it all the same
Hi Lee,great vlog.
I agree not the best nor worst seaside town in the UK is what it is very entertaining as always👍
Loved this walkabout , never been to Scarborough , might give it a visit as you said everywhere is sadly the same in the UK , sweet n sour chicken is my favourite too meal looks good , thanks for sharing Xx
Hi Lee , my sister was at the teaching colleague,in the eighties. And I'm shocked to see how Scarborough is now . I like your and Stephens channel , as I watch both of yours alot . All the Best Simon from Chesterfield x
Looks safe to me, and I live in the next town, so I should know!! Is that a click bait title??
Looking at this place, I am so glad I live down in the southwest in Devon. Just discovered your channel I have to say it's very good👍hope to see you come down here in the near future.
Another great vid old bean
That’s funny what u always say lee “ I’ll get ya and I’ll make it look like an accident “ lol 😂 proper funny
Strangely enough, having a sweet & sour king prawn takeaway tonight. Your sweet & sour chicken looks lovely!
Awe Bernard Cribbins. Forever associated with Dr Who and the Railway Children in my mind. 😊❤
No its not went in friday think it was a clown??? Or something else
I visited the resort several times when camping in the area with the kids years ago. A wonderful area we found. Not been back for many years. Many seaside towns have been affected by illegal immigration with crime.., i come from a seaside town of Margate. They have had problems but it's managed to overcome..
Cheers Lee, a great way to spend an evening wandering around Scarborough.
I was in Scarborough last year for a day trip as I was staying in Whitby. It’s sad to see it declining as I was there in 2012 and it was so busy back then! Managed to get up to the castle for a peak which was nice
nice walk through, very sad when i see shops closed up, kept watching the sky as you walked so was glad you caught the sunset on the beach , thanks
Great video again Lee. Loving your content atm.
Who complains that someone is blocking a window they're not sitting next to? What the heck is wrong with people?
Exactly
@@pauljennings8432 They want a refund under the negative press excuse probably. Look what happend with Lees complaint about a drunk passenger. You never know you know? 😊
We were there a few weeks ago. Spent a few hours in the Turks Head, great atmosphere. 👍👍
Great video and entertaining. Ots what we all feel when we wander around these once great holiday places. You were honest, and not too brutal. Food looked good also. I enjoy your videos immensely
Do more hotel and town visits. Loving these videos something different
I always laugh when you say, I'll get ya! I'll make it look like a bloody accident! 😂 👍
Scarborough hasn’t been worth visiting for many many years
Gosh how sad. We had a few holidays there and in the evenings you couldn’t move for tourists. There’s no one there now 😮
I can remember the first day I visited Scarbrough, went there with the youth club aged 14, 16th August 1977, a very important day in history
was in The Merchant and Kam Sang in 2008, went camping with our son who was 4 at the time, lovely place
The 🇮🇪 bar
Scarborough still gets packed in the summer.
Red sky at night shepherd's delight. It was a sign mate. You should have gone for the lamb.
'The vibrant city of scarborough' Uh huh looks like a well-written and informative piece.
Yes Bernard Cribbens got the advert job off his role as the Station Master on the film 📽️ The Railway 🚂 Children... 💕 Jenny Agutter ....Grand Hotel 🛏️ can't be that bad if you're going back 😂
Great video thank you
It’s looking like all the local have left
V interesting, i kept watching as I recognised the sound of mansfield .. thanks again
Dipstick! Carrying that key. 🙈🙈🙈🙈
Be more of a dipstick handing it in with £15k worth of Equipment in the room!
I have lived in Scarborough all my life and avoid the town centre and tourist beach,
I generally visit further up the coast as we have some gorgeous unspoilt coastline and countryside with stunning views that thankfully Dean and Chaz the chavs doesn't visit.
Brilliant man ❤
Keys should be left at reception hence the huge fob 😂
Scarborough makes Rhyl look like Monaco
Loved your video, I'm an ex pat living in New Zealand for the last 45 years, I have fond memories of Scarborough, as we used to have some of our family holidays there, I hope one day to visit again. Something you might be interested in, apparently Adolf Hitler told his bomber pilots not to bomb the Grand Hotel as he wanted to use it as a headquarters once he was in England, not sure if that's true or not, but there you go. ?
Mister Macmaster! Lee, you can put either a positive slant on something, or a negative depending on what you're trying to make it! 🎉
That's what The People want though, isn't it? The People get what the People want, as they say...
Try your luck in Cornwall.
Hi Lee try Llandudno, great drive up through Llangollen and Betws y coed. 20 mph limit between Llandudno and Colwyn bay ridiculous.
Only been there once kinda a flying visit remember the chill at night overall nice sort of the earth folk , that food looked decent Lee
It's all over the country
Please tell me any town or city in the UK that has prospered from immigration. I travelled for many many years with my job and seen the decline of man seaside towns and cities including LONDON which I first went to in 1972.
Literally all of them.
I was there not long ago , very nice people and a very clean nice place to visit , Grand Hotel was ok aswel , was in there a week !
Hun that meal was looking lovely . and my score is a 10 and the sunset was lovely. Shame about some of the shops. Being closed xx❤
