Believe it or not, she released this song while signed by Atlantic in 2020. They then proceeded to drop her and give her the masters of her music. Her debut album was done completely as an independent artist with only a publishing deal.
I kept hearing about here for the past several weeks or months, I finally checked her out just a few days ago. This girl has got IT. She's really got it.
I mostly listen to metal these days, but god I love Chappell Roan. She's truly earned her stripes after trying to make it for ten years, going from playing in parking lots to crowds of tens of thousands so rapidly. Also love how openly she shows her insecurities, even breaking down once on stage at how overwhelmed she is at the sudden success out of nowhere after grinding away for so long and seemingly getting nowhere. Would definitely recommend Red Wine Supernova and Good Luck Babe if you're going to check out more from her. That little yelp/yodel in her voice is probably going to start to get emulated in a lot of pop music the way cursive singing and ASMR-tinged whisper singing has been the past few years.
As soon as you complemented her voice I realized you've got a heck of a journey coming up listening to more of her music. She changes up her singing style a LOT in different songs. I won't say she sounds like a different person, but she sounds like Chappell Roan singing the best lost 80s Madonna song, or Chappell Roan singing the best lost 80s Cyndi Lauper song, or Chappell Roan singing the best lost 2010s Lady Gaga song, or a really expert Torch song singer who sounds kind of like Chappell Roan. Her range of styles she's great at synthesizing into her own updated version is...awe inspiring.
Based on how much you like her melodies, I highly recommended her entire album. Specifically Red Wine Supernova and Karma is my Kink have really interesting melodies
she Is a drag queen! there’s some clip of her talking ab how a drag queen who opened for her told her “honey you Are a drag queen” and how that absolutely changed her outlook on her performances because she is SUCH! a drag queen and it’s beautiful
Love that your daughter recommended Chappell to you! If you have the chance you should react to the rest of her debut album as well it's fantastic all the way through :)
I usually listen to music by people who have been dead for 200 years, but I especially love her live performances. She brings so much joy to her live audiences.
lovely video!! i've been keeping up with chappell's career growth recently, she really has a fantastic ear for pop songwriting and a great voice! i have a suggestion for another artist for you to give a listen, who is absolutely nothing like Chappell. my favorite artist for the past few years has been Quadeca, an experimental musician who sort of comes at art pop and indie rock from the direction of rap/hip hop. his music is very maximalist and production-heavy, incorporating all sorts of instruments and genres. he also used to be quite a popular youtuber! some reccommendations for good starting places are A La Carte (feat. Beakence), Texas Blue (feat. Kevin Abstract), or Born Yesterday (which contains a very creative sample of For No One by the Beatles). happy reacting!
I cant believe you haven't listened to more of her stuff yet. She's just SO good... Try her video for "Kaleidoscope." Its stunning. Its done in the style of the old torch singers ... Its so beautiful.
I’m sure that the reason I have such a soft spot for Chappell is because of my first gay awakening, which was seeing Lady Gaga perform in 2009! Her music takes me straight back to the feeling I had with Gaga’s first album. This song in particular has such a profound effect on so many queer peeps because it perfectly captures the joy in finding a safe space to be free! I think you’d love her whole album, her vocal agility (and range) is actually extraordinary, top notch production from Dan Nigro, and just such honest and expressive songwriting - plz do listen to it! 💜
Listen to the full album you won’t be disappointed! Also she haven’t taken singing lessons until 2022 I believe? So happy to see her reaching demographics that might not otherwise have listened. Great video!
hey!! i’d definitely stick around if you’re looking to react to more chappell! she has some incredible songs and her range is exponential, would recommend red wine supernova or hot to go! and for a slower song, picture you. she has rws and picture you on tiny desk (picture you being my fav from that performance) as well but there are others! her red wine supernova performance on vevo or stephen colbert and such. her live concert and festival recording are just amazing as well if you want to check that out in your own time. also def check out her newish single good luck babe, it’s incredible!
she was born to perform, absolutley mesmerising! loving your reactions and breakdowns. would love for you to react to Vignette from twenty one pilots new album.
I’ve heard that term before but I never knew exactly what it meant, just the context around where it was used. I don’t think anybody I’ve ever heard use it knew what it meant either lol
Hey! Have you heard of the new Porter Robinson ablum that just released? It's a little different than what you usually react to on here but i think you could find a lot of things to enjoy about it. Would love to see a full album reaction or just a reaction to a particular song you like from it. The album is called "smile :D" btw. Great video as always!
I'm so tired and bored of performances that get constructed in the studio and the artist can't actually sing the songs live, relying on back tracks instead. I love what Chappell Roan is doing.
@@Mark.mp3I like some of his videos but then he was super dismissive about a Billie eilish song and a Taylor Swift song without even listening to the whole thing or understanding the lyrics at all and I was really turned off by how negative and dismissive he was.
Why do you guys label theatrical intro as Vaudville...this gurl has the qualities of yodeling style Country like Patsy Kline and pop version like Cindy Lauper.
@ ok I think she was going into a story telling serious mode instead of slap stick, schtick , over the top when it's about Vaudville...that mime vibe with music added...that's what I picture for Vaudville...you're not the first to say that about the intro. No probs. Just my and your opinions.
Bud, do you know what a minstrel show is? I would definitely never compare her to a Minstrel show………. I can’t like or subscribe due to that - sorry, I’m out
It was a mistake, I didn’t mean what it really means. I was trying to refer to vaudeville or a circus show, not a real minstrel show how it is truly defined. My mistake.

She’s either incredibly lucky they let her keep the masters or she had a killer lawyer cuz that never happens
@@AmbassadorKatShe got lucky! They were cutting people left and right because of Covid and just wanted them out.
@@lifeisabeautifulriskthank God I didn't even think about this until this comment but I can't imagine if she didn't own Pink Pony Club. 😭
So many things in life are all about timing… so glad this track survived to be HEARD.🎉And the story it tells is so extremely relatable.
Your daughter knows what she's talking about.
And is probably gay
I kept hearing about here for the past several weeks or months, I finally checked her out just a few days ago. This girl has got IT. She's really got it.
Same here. No idea what happened in the last few weeks but suddenly I have a bunch of modern American musicians that I actually love.
STAR!!!

Chappell Roan is the freshest thing in pop since "Thriller"
Do "Good Luck, Babe!" next! I think you'll love how she ends that song ❤
Based on how much you like her melodies, I highly recommended her entire album. Specifically Red Wine Supernova and Karma is my Kink have really interesting melodies
Red Wine Supernova is my fav ❤
Karma is my Kink made me giggle
YESSSSSS! More Chappell Roan! She is one of the best things to happen to modern music in a long time
Her look is very drag inspired and she is My new favorite artist i highly recommend Rise and fall of a midwest princess the full album
she Is a drag queen! there’s some clip of her talking ab how a drag queen who opened for her told her “honey you Are a drag queen” and how that absolutely changed her outlook on her performances because she is SUCH! a drag queen and it’s beautiful
Just give her all the Grammys
This whole Tiny Desk is great. Definitely worth a watch
Love that your daughter recommended Chappell to you! If you have the chance you should react to the rest of her debut album as well it's fantastic all the way through :)
Her look is inspired by drag and she has drag performers open for her. Chappel Roan is her drag persona.
Why tf do I cry every time I listen to her? ❤ her lyrics omg, what a talent
It’s good to cry!
Have you listened to Kaleidoscope? She has a live version out now that will pull heartstrings for sure.
@@christinakerovecz9018 I will def check it out!
You have to check out her album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, from start to finish a work of art. Love, love LOVE Chappell Roan!❤️🎶🎉
No self-control, me sees Chappell Roan, me clicks 🧌
She is a STAR🥰
chappell is on repeat in my head everyday all the time!
I usually listen to music by people who have been dead for 200 years, but I especially love her live performances. She brings so much joy to her live audiences.
highly recommend “Red Wine Supernova” from the same tiny desk performance and “Good Luck, Babe!” from her Fallon performance
please do more Chappell! she's incredible. "Good Luck, Babe" will blow your mind.

The violin solo grabbed me. She comped for the lead guitar on the album.

Chappell Roan is amazing! I'm glad you also liked this song. Thank you for giving a shout out to all the band members!
the piano lick at the beginning was absolutely beautiful
Ty!

She’s been playing live for 10 years❤
she was born to perform, absolutley mesmerising! loving your reactions and breakdowns.
would love for you to react to Vignette from twenty one pilots new album.
She reminds me of Dolly Parton as well. Don't know if anyone else thinks so.
Definitely check out one of her live recordings of Red Wine Supernova! And her newest song Good Luck Babe.
we have had generic crap pop for so long...chappell is a breath of authenticity and talent...
Please do Picture You!

loved your overview on this !!!!!!!!111
id love to see you react to some of her other performances!! shes so great :)
The minstrel show comment was out of pocket…I can sense you meant well but that was *not* the reference to make, for future reference.
Vaudeville?
Agreed - couldn’t believe my ears when I heard that -

I wish he would have done kaleidoscope
You should react to RAYE’s tiny desk concert! One of the best live voices I’ve ever heard
i love music nerds :)
is that piano open a sample of Song to the Moon from that opera Rusulka
No, just some goofy improv
Ok sound engineers for TDC b/c they know exactly what they’re doing
Please react to more Chappell!!
