Hip-Hop!! Honestly, that’s a fantastic point about Kendrick rapping like a horn player, but I also get drummer as well from his rhythm. The second verse of Alright in particular is where I feel like his flow is reminiscent of fills with those really cool polyrhythms. Those little layered harmonies are so good, almost horrific and ominous too. His lyrics are just genius on top of that. Kendrick Lamar is truly one of the genre-defining artists of our time. His stuff is always poignant, potent, and punctual. Pharrell’s production is just insane too, he does his THING on that hook. One of my favorite songs of all time off one of my favorite albums of all time: “To Pimp a Butterfly”. 🦋🔥

Great reaction! Would love to see you react to TPAB front-to-back, I think you would get a lot out of it and it's a very cohesive concept album. I think you're on point with the horn player comparison, I find his listening skills really inspirational - for instance, when he goes on that run starting with "I can see the evil, I can tell it, I know it's illegal," the way his accents line up with the snare line blows my mind. Reminds me of a Brian Blade or Chris Dave track, something where you have a very active drummer in sync with a soloist. That particular quality holds up across all his work, but the instrumentals on TPAB and Untitled Unmastered really highlight it. The guy's a once-in-a-lifetime talent imo.

So the producer Flying Lotus helped with the production of TPAB, and while he wasn't the only producer, his style and essence is strewn all over. You MUST watch/listen to "Never Catch Me" by Flying Lotus/Kendrick Lamar. The track also has Thundercat on bass. Kill three birds with one stone, but if not, you absolutely must check out flying lotus at some point.

The song where he’s screaming in a hotel room is called god is gangsta to follow this it is also a master piece. My childhood friend is actually in the intro of this song filmed crying.
Kendrick has been someone That’s helped me thru so many dark times, and now with his new album dropping a few days before my moms death I am so grateful for him. He is truly a profit for the new age. The most potent song off the new album in my opinion is Mother I Sober ft Beth gibbons from portishead (one of the most amazing divine bands ever)
And if I could recommend you at least listen to Sing about me , I’m dying of thirst off his album good kid maad city. So incredible.

Breath control is very very difficult especially when you're doing rapid fire rap. Most people if they had to do their album like I said they wouldn't be able to make it through it because it requires so much for the delivery. You can only get that birth control through practice there is nothing else. It's just like being a singer you don't gain that better control over your lungs unless you are using them to the degree that you need to. For me as a rapper it's much easier to compared to when I would play the flute because it is a very lung demanding instrument. And you have to practice this because if you don't you are going to performance at that degree you will pass out if you don't practice. I want to listen to me and my mom used to do is sing while you're on a treadmill or sing and snap out the Rhythm while you're walking. There are ways to find practice in Daily things that you do. It just doesn't substitute for the artistic practice that you have to do just to maintain your skill.
