There's something to be said about being able to stay inside, warm, during the winter and watch TV while being able to monitor the rig in the backyard.
Absolutely the best way. I hear often people discussing various antenna upgrades. The best upgrade is the router. A powerful router allows station mode and benefits the home network also.
Agreed. I think it's due to the limitations of it being a Raspberry Pi, and the low power it has transmitting out the signal. Sure, the antenna on the Plus is a great step forward, but using an external repeater that is built to put out stronger signal is always better.

Hi Daylon, I have a variation of your setup for you to try that might be faster. I too have the ethernet plugged into the ASIAIR but the Station Mode in the ASIAIR is totally turned OFF. You just have to go into the ASIAIR settings ahead of time by connecting directly to the ASIAIR's wifi signal and then look for the IP address that populates right below Wifi settings. It says 'Wired Ethernet'. Then reconnect your computer or tablet to your home wifi (or the TPlink wifi directly) and connect the ASIAIR using the IP address you just saw. It has been super fast and I can also use the 5G network no problem. Later when you start the ASIAIR app again it seems to connect automatically without even asking for the IP address. Try it and see if you notice any difference in speed!
The TPLink is indeed picking up my home wifi, that is intentional. I set it up so I can use that TP link at home and at other locations with the ASI AIR, and the tablet is always on the same Wifi network. It gets rid of complications, at least for me. I really only shoot in my backyard during colder months, otherwise I go to an observatory or a dark sky spot. Having everything line up gets rid of problems. The problem is for PC users seeing wifi networks without a wifi card. In some tests, I set my TPlink to be the way my computer connected back to the router, and put the AIR in station mode. I could monitor the wifi traffic that way using a tool called Wireshark. I saw the AIR with some hiccups, and my PC could see it. With my home setup, the walls interrupted signal between the AIR and the router, but that's a fault of old housing, not the devices themselves. There are many more variables in the wifi that I am planning on for a video that is planned for mid December, I hope I can explain those when I release it :)
Dankeschön. Früher konnte ich Deutsch, aber ich habe es vergessen und muss Google Translate verwenden. Das Dankeschön wurde allerdings nicht übersetzt. Ich bin froh, dass es geholfen hat.
I just got my ASIAIR Plus. I have it setup by following this video to my home wifi. Was wondering if I'll need one of these for my AAP? I'll be about 40-50 feet away from my setup. I haven't used it yet as the weather here is terrible. Thanks for an excellent video. Appreciate it.
For the pro it is recommended. The wifi on the Pro is worse than the Plus. If you are only imaging at home, you could go with a standard Wifi router and plug both into it so they are both on the same wifi network.
Thank you for this, just tried my setup, the Asiair plus with a Redcat, and its working from bottom of the garden (55ft) away, not used a repeater as works ok without :)
Yet another video that skips straight past my problem. I’m sure it’s a great video and informative but you went beyond where I’m hung up at 1:20. Becoming more and more convinced that the universe is telling me NOT to look up its dress.
@@AstroEscape thank you so much for replying. I was throwing a tantrum. I calmed down and kept plugging away. Basically I was having a lot of initial connection issues but I addressed some Wi-Fi settings and have gotten past that. Thanks to yourself and several others I seem to have gotten past most all my issues. Once a shutter release cable shows up then I can get past the 30s exp limit. FYI for dslr users, when the manual shows an R with a line through it next to your dslr that means you need a cable, because a symbol with a line through it always mean you need that thing… sheesh. Just one example. (And yes, I now know that below the compatibility chart it shows what that symbol means but if I told you that a red sign that says stop means to go, you would still hesitate) Aaaaaaanywho… not to say that I won’t be looking for help again but I think I’ve gotten over the teething problems. Thank you again for the information and insight. I think I’ll do a post on cloudy nights with all the issues I ran into and how I fixed them. Cheers and clear skies.
Any thoughts about how I can figuring out why station mode only works *sometimes* (lately never) for me? Scan in ASIAIR app never works but typing in the IP address sometimes does (I access my router from a different system and find the IP address for the ASIAIR so I know it's the right one). I thought it was some of the anti piracy stuff in my router perhaps because one time I turned that off and was able to connect.... but turns out that was a coincidence..... An odd aside: with station mode on but connecting the tablet through ASIAIR wifi I can access the internet.... so that proves the ASIAIR is connected to the home wifi... I just can't get the the tablet to communicate with the ASIAIR through the home wifi 🤔
I was really just wondering if you tried the entire setup with ‘station mode’ turned off? It seemed a little faster for me. Just connect using the IP address that is showing in ASIAIR under ‘wired ethernet’. Once I did this it connected automatically thereafter. I too am just imaging in my backyard using my home Wi-Fi to link with the TP-link extender.
Hi !! So I follow your very clear instructions on using blue stack and I am able to connect after a couple of tries. I have an SA GTI that only works via WiFi (the USB port doesn't work) and on the other hand, an Asiair Mini so it's not an option to use Ethernet between both devices, do you think I can connect to both devices using only WiFi with Station Mode and a tablet? thank you!
