  • While Artificial Intelligence has gained a lot of airplay in the world of innovation, a tsunami of profound new insights in biology has largely gone unnoticed. Yet these insights hint that there is an intelligence behind the success of the natural world, one that completely changes the way we look at sustainability.
In this TEDx talk, Leen Gorissen takes you on a journey to discover just how clever nature works. Leen Gorissen, Ph.D. in Biology, is specialized in ecology, transition science, regenerative development and bio-inspired innovation. She is the author of the book ‘Building the Future of Innovation on millions of years of Natural Intelligence’ and the founder of Centre4NI, a catalyst that helps organizations and businesses to innovate like nature. It is time for a new perspective and narrative and TEDx is the platform to do just that. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Thank you Leen for this beautiful, vitally important and inspiring message, reminding us how intelligent, incredible and rich our nature and inheritance is!!! I love it!
And thank you for your work, words and wisdom to learn through observation, to benefit all beings through open mindedness and to see the living, breathing, beating intelligence in the smallest to largest of living species.
I have also learned a great deal from my dog, daughter and the creatures that enter my world. Each with wisdom reflecting the inherent beauty, power and incredible will to live, thrive and give, when left to it's natural essence. Which we call true nature in yoga and ayurveda.
The life you speak of with such admiration and humility we call Prana, the intelligent movement that allows co-creation through adaption, cooperation and non-verbal communication.
The way I leave the world a better place than I found it is through teaching, showing and sharing this incredibleness with others through classes, courses, workshops and writing; book and articles, facilitating other's rediscovery of their inherent beauty, power and will to live within.
    And I love it!!

    Thanks for this talk Leen!
Apart from being a good friend of mine, you have been a life-changing inspiration and a voice that sounds louder ever more.
Leen's stories have taught me that sustainability is but a by-product of the regenerative nature of the natural world. So she teaches us a lesson in humility and shows that sustainable growth is one of systemic collaboration that is conducive to life... not the gradual shift away from the Take-Make-Waste paradigm we confuse with Sustainability.
That inspires me to actively push what I do in my personal life and the sustainability and circular economy efforts we undertake at work. This should not be made explicit in our job profiles, it should be in our 'nature' to do so.
Hope this TEDX-talk may be of inspiration to you as well and have a lasting impression.

Marc Nolan is correct. Unfortunately, the academic world has an annoying habit of conflating education with intelligence.
What you call 'natural intelligence' is not a discovery, it is something that the uneducated are intimately familiar with; we call it 'common sense'.

thanks for this inspiring talk. I already bought your book for our daughter and my godson to spread the thought. Of all good idea's in your book I liked most the brilliant transfer of knowledge from natural processes towards the organisation of companies. Innovative CEO's should give it a go! They might get better of it. Darwin's law counts for all of us.

if everyone knows this... will human finally be more humble? Will human finally think of more than " I have a right to live my life" ? Will it change our way of living? I already agree and try to leave the planet better than I found it.... but don't know how I can compensate all the materials, flights and clothes I bought, before I knew all this...
