    As an Aussie I have to say 11/10 on the accent. It sounded so natural, especially the "Nah don't worry about the test" part, so good! 😂 You just gained another subscriber!

      Legendary_tortoise O5 I grew up in New Zealand until 2004 I moved to Australia, trust me I was just like you, I didn’t get it until I went to New Zealand on holiday 5 years later and got the jist, kiwis do sound like they’re saying fush and chups because of the Maori language we pronounce the “I” as “e”

    I feels like for New Zealand it depends where you are. I don’t hear the accent in the Wellington region very often, we pronounce words how most other places say them. Like “ten” isn’t really emphasised like ‘Tehn’. Nick isn’t really said as Nuck, it’s still pronounced “Nih-k”

    hahaha very good. I'm an Aussie and spent a few weeks in Scotland last year, I remember staff at huntly castle asking me if I was a new zealander, which I suppose is unusual since it's the poor New Zealanders usually getting asked if they are Australian. I just cheekily said "half of NZ lives in Australia so close enough" LOL Also met this cute little girl on the boat over to the Isle of Lewis who told me I was Australian, when I asked her how she knew she told me "neighbours" groaannnnnnnnn. LOL

Before I found these it was Chris Hansen's voice that would put me asleep so I would play the videos over and over of him questioning the predators that would walk in. Difference between the two accents, is Australia has that hint of the word "cunt" behind every thing they say, and fear of being eaten by literally any animal in their region, while New Zealand is just a very strange off-breed, as if they come the region of Australia and then moved to Newfoundland for a year only to take up permanent residence in Scotland

    • @captainrex9899

      Well I from new Zealand and I call my friends cunts, like an Australian does

  • @seanjordan850
    @seanjordan850 4 роки тому +1

    Another difference that's not so obvious is that Australians pronounce Ts almost like Ds (when in the middle of a word), whereas kiwis will strongly pronounce the T. So words like water, butter become wadah and buddah in Australia, but definitely waTer in NZ. Americans also do the D thing in water and butter, but it becomes wadur and buddur

    Really good, but the further south you go the more we roll our r’s ...
    Also, the Maori vowels are different sounding to English (NZ) vowels.
    The freakiest accent confusion I’ve had was in SAN Diego. A Chinese woman came in to the hostel I was staying at. She had a full blown Scottish accent from Glasgow!
    Chur!

    • @ASMRMuzz
      @ASMRMuzz  6 років тому +2

      I'd say Kiwis don't roll their R at all, you just actually pronounce the R the further south, InveRcaRgill as opposed to Inve-caahgill that most northern Kiwis would say. :-)
      As a Scot, we very much roll our 'R' , as in we actually have to physically flip our tongue to make the sound. In music they call it 'flipping the R' I believe.
      Ha, it often catches a lot of people out when an Indian, Pakistani or Chinese person breaks out in a full Scottish accent!
      Chur cuz.

    I'd just like to say, I'm pretty good at accents also, I've met one or two Kiwi's and asked one about the difference, he said there's a huge difference. Well, there's isn't a huge difference, not in the actual accent anyway, it's primarily just the emphasis and that the Kiwi accent is deeper because of the emphasis.

    • @abc1DiLy
      @abc1DiLy 3 роки тому +1

      I’m an Australian and a simple way of thinking about the difference for me (bc really our consonants sound the same, it’s just a few simple vowel sounds) is that NZ is like Australian English but in italics, which doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. In NZ, i is u and e is i.

    • @mikemorris4548
      @mikemorris4548 3 роки тому

      @@abc1DiLy they are more or less the same, the main difference is the pitch/tone of what's being said, even though like Muzz has said, there are these few obvious differences which is good to hear, BUT they are mixed differences, by that I mean, one part of the Aus accent can sound like the NZ and likewise. Thinking back to that moment of meeting the Kiwi, I'm like, what a fkg idiot, him that is not me lol.

      Chrome HawkzZ Heya bro, depends on what frame of reference you've got. Obviously Kiwis themselves don't think they (you) say it that way but compared to Australian, English or Scottish accent it definitely sounds like a U as opposed to an I.
      Works the same way for Aussies, using your NZ accent as a reference point, it sounds like an Australian says 'sex' every time they pronounce the number 6.
      Whenever a Kiwi says 'oh shit!' it sounds like 'oh shut' to me and many other people...
      Cheers for stopping by, you've inspired me to make another one of these videos!

      He never said Kiwi's do, he said ''almost with a U'', which is true lol.

      Almost is right. But the thing I've learned with accents, is you actually can't trust those with the source accent in question. They are completely bias of course. A Kiwi could indeed say "Nuck" for Nick and they wouldn't even hear it. Because it's so normal.
      My video and my observation is also only "correct" from my own frame of reference, which is Scottish.

    I can’t stand his whispering. It’s annoying.
