Stay healthy Peter. We love your videos. You teach to the point and humbly even though you give us the benefit of your wealth of knowledge. God bless you and your family and all your staff and keep safe ❤️❤️❤️
On a horrible rainy day how lovely to look back at your nursery in the summer. It has brightened the day.
It’s July 10th. I just pruned 100% of the leaves off my golden bark Japanese maple. I’m trusting you Peter!
Brilliant work Peter, you're amazing! 👏🏼Bless you
Thank you for all the videos and advice Peter. A Merry Christmas to you and your family and all the guys who work in the nursery.
Very good advice - thanks!
Also, after defoliating, they drink up a bit less water for a few weeks so if it's a hot summer, it can help to prevent the soil drying out so quickly during hot afternoons, until the new buds leaf out. That's my experience here in Madrid. Happy Christmas Peter and EVERYONE!!
Any other tips for keeping a maple happy in a Mediterranean climate? California has a similar climate and i just got a maple that I'm looking to keep healthy and thriving through our summers and there isnt a ton of info that I’ve found on the internet about keeping maple bonsai in California climates
@@systematicchaos21 when in full leaf Japanese Maples can drink up a lot of water; on a hot day (95°F and higher) they can need watering several times a day to avoid leaf burn. Even so, you might need to take them out of the full-on direct sunlight in the hottest hours. This summer my JMs burnt in full sun and lost the complete top layer of leaves (but no long-term harm done, as Peter Chan said). So for the summer months going foward I will put the JMs under semi shade so they don't get full-on direct sunlight when it's really hot. My trident maple suffered less. (Either the trident leaves are tougher, or the fatter trunk is pumping up the water more efficiently, or both. )
Keep in mind that while defoliation can help, it will also temporarily weaken the tree and slow down the trunk growth so if you're trying to fatten them up it will take longer.
An advantage of defoliation: it's a simple method of pest control for aphids and the like. Although, maples don't seem to have many infestations as some other trees like fruiting trees.
Hope that helps!
@@BlueSkyBonsai that helps a lot, thank you!! It’s definitely going to be a learning process for me! It’ll be the first summer that I’ll have a truly mature maple in my care
Great video. I didn’t know what I was doing this past spring and pruned half the leaves on my red maple.
The leaves on my maples from Herons seeds planted early this year turned stunning reds towards autumn. I cant wait for them to get growing again in Spring. Very successful germination by the way!
Don't have trees left to try that..😭. Those maples are beautiful, bravo Peter. Can't wait for the next one.👍👍
Red is....very beautiful😍😍😍
Thanks you Masterfor sharing. 🌾
Nice mid week upload it’s nice to see trees in leaf.
Hope you all make the most of the Christmas break and stay safe and just remember that if you think 2020 is bad, then think about 1914.
Thanks Peter
Great info! I wondered why my Jordan didn't get a second growth of leaves when i cut of the scorched leaves... Next time... :)
Off topic, but nice GMT watch Steve! Love all your vids Peter. I have watched them all and find them very entertaining and helpful!
Very informative video, thanks for imparting your knowledge. At what time in the summer would be the latest you could prune back like this?
Wow very beautiful bonsai sir
Love your videos. Some of the best information out here. Do you sell any of your pre bonsai maples? I've been looking for this one but I've had no luck.
Man I wish you guys had a nursery in the US. I would single handedly keep you in business. 😂
I'm in the UK and can't get over to him , one Day

My guy Steve flashing the rolla
Hello thanks for the great videos. I have a quick question, is there a difference in deshojo vs shindeshojo? Thanks again
Nice Rolex diver watch! ⏱
There is a lot of bonsai channels on UA-cam.
But if i should recommend only one channel, Herons Bonsai would be it. :)
where to find it?
No le puede negar uno la consistencia de sus concejos: "No tema cortar, si no está preparado para cortar. No podrá formar un bonsai" 😅
Would it be a good time to train the branches when you've pruned the leaves? I have a tree a similar size and am wondering when to train it!
👍👍
Where can I get one of this
Bonsai + Rolex ❤
How do all of your potted plants get water? Is someone watering each pot individually? Thanks!
Is there a trick to get soft maples to hollow?
the maple I got was 70 bucks got in on clearance then chopped it in half I wish I would have air layered it! I want one of those!!! I'm determined to get an orginal @peterchan love your work
which color will the new leaves have in juli?
Its ok to do this mid summer!?!?!
How often should I water my acer in a pot many thanks.
When you say after you cut dry leaves that you’ll get new leaves, you mean next year you’ll get new leaves right? I’ve had some issues with my Bloodgood drying out and dropping leaves that don’t come back the same year. I’m new to this so be gentle. Haha
👍🏻🍁
Hi im curious, won't the plant die if u prune off all the leaves? Won't the plant not be able to make food cuz it's unable to take in sunlight?
I purchased a maple tree this summer and all the leaves dried up and fell off living the tree naked. I have watered it but see no response with any growth or new leaves. Is my tree a goner and no good anymore?
Scratch a small bit of the bark a from branch off, is it green and alive or is that part dead? If its dead go down more and try again, if there is green somewhere it is still alive, if there is no green anywhere anymore the tree is dead. (example movie ua-cam.com/video/OtqII7-ElBA/v-deo.html )
Trees in pots need constant watering, even twice a day if the season is hot and the pot small. Watering *after* all the leaves have shriveled may be too late.
@@pansepot1490 To confuse matters the symptoms of under and over watering are the same. Could be an overwatering issue also. Best way to know is to check the soil. If the soil is dry a fingers depth down then it needs water if its damp then it does not need water
In saying that I'm used to growing plants that don't uptake a large amount of water
How is the tree able to survive with no foliage for photosynthesis? Or does it reproduce so quickly in the grow period it doesn't affect it?
It will store that energy for a while, it has some in reserves it can use before it starts to suffer. Some plants also go into dormancy and use less energy during certain times of year
Do you sell jmaple sir?
hi peter do you sale this seed?
Sir when will you visit india
Is it a good idea to leaf prune at the end of winter?.., I live in LA ,so the trees hang onto their foliage..
Dang our red maple is fully over overwintered, leaves fell off a week or so again.
Ha, not sure should i look at the 🍁or ⌚
🤫🤔🤭😁😍🤪😝😜😛
