@@entransify The 6 car was never the same after Mark Martin left Roush Racing. IIRC, the only driver to win in the #6 besides Mark, was David Ragan back in 2011.
Hmmm... In terms of Bayne saving the Wood Brothers, you're partially right. However I think them going part-time & then switching alliances from Roush to Penske probably did it more than anything, even that win. Their resurgence did start with that win with Bayne, but they still remained part-time for 5 more years as you said. The Wood Brothers partnership with Roush wasn't working as well as it was expected. When they changed to a partnership with Penske & brought in Ryan Blaney, that was when the Wood Brothers was truly saved in my book. It resurrected them out of being a part-time team & they have been competitive with Blaney & now Paul Menard.
I'd say that win at Daytona did indeed save them financially, no doubt! BUT Ryan Blaney definitely put them back on the map all those years he drive for them. Great videos as always, my friend!
I went to the Henry Ford museum and saw that winning car. For some reason I got a little teary eyed walking around it as I photographed it. There's something about that one win that really drew the feelings out of me.
I feel like this is a perspective is not usually taken into account when one looks at either Trevor Bayne or the 2011 Daytona 500. It really shows how one win can make a difference.
Trevor's Daytona 500 win is what allowed that team to run full time again, along with the technical alliance with Penske, which allowed to them to land Ryan Blaney (one of the top young drivers). Now with Paul Menard there, they've got additional funding. I'd say things are looking up for the Wood Brothers
I know this is 3 years old, I get it. The one person who has saved Wood Brothers racing, and gets little credit, is Edsel Ford II. The Wood Brothers have always had a special relationship, to the Ford family. As Edsel is fond of saying " the Wood Brothers are family" .
Yes Trevor Bayne save the Wood Brothers with that Daytona 500 win and their new driver Paul Menard will win Talladega and I'm going to say he's going to win the Brickyard 400 again
I've always wondered if Trevor Bayne's MS began to affect his racing. It takes such fine skills to pilot a race car and I wonder if he was starting to lose just enough fine motor control that it affected his racing. Getting with a declining Team Roush didn't help either. I hope he's doing well as he seemed like one of the good guys. Only the good retire young...
Great video always loved WBR no matter the driver. Have you ever considered doing a video on what happened to Michael Waltrip racing with your in depth research and historical knowledge I think it would make a great dannybtalks video??
Team Penske saved the Wood Brothers because Roush failed to adapt to the changes in NASCAR and that’s why the Wood Brothers teamed up with Team Penske. Roush needs to give it up because the way they’re headed the don’t have a snowballs chance in hell of winning a championship anytime soon.
Trevor Bayne saved Wood Brothers Racing 100%. That 500 win gave that struggling team a financial boost as well as a confidence boost which is what they desperately needed at the time. So in my eyes, Trevor Bayne was a hero!
Baynes 500 win was great , However i am not sure he saved the Wood Bros! That win was 8 years ago and i think the next win will be 100. With Menard driving a Penske car they have equipment and sponsorship money !
I think Menard is a good choice until another driver with more potential could race in that 21. I do wish Blaney would have been able to stay in that car as his retro looks were a perfect fit. I also think Menard is still around because he brings big sponsorship money anywhere he goes. Not hating on him too much, as I do see him being a threat to win at Daytona in July and Dega. He's solid and that's what any sponsor & team want. I was hoping for Blaney to be a big deal and make that #21 and #6 great. Hey, he's a Knoxville guy and a Tennessee boy racin with the big boys, what's not to love. (I moved to Bristol TN so hello from a fellow Tennesseean)
My main question is how did bayne become a bust? He wasn't really rushed he did decent in the xfinity series. Could it just have been because he joined roush in their downfall?
To me he never was even given the chance to win... he joined Roush at a bad time and people keep on forgetting that it took Stenhouse 5 years to win with Roush
You left out the one thing that probably destroyed Bayne's career -- the sickness that attacked him a month later... Net effect was a unfortunate physiological changes that effectively took Trevor's driving skills way. NASCAR you can't be 98%....
All his win proves is that he got extremely lucky at a track that takes 80% luck to win. Yes, it saved Wood Brothers, but that’s it. Trevor is most definitely a one hit wonder, just so happens that one hit wonder saved a team.
Yes he did and then they dump him they don't keep drivers very Long but they don't give the driver the equipment they need to be competitive so they can get a win the 21 car never has a team mate to work together as other teams have and that is why the 21 car can't get wins it's not only the driver that has to to his job but it has to do with the whole team and they don't all come together nothing is going to work no matter what they do
Bayne might have been a Bust but atleast he kept that team from Busting out of business.
LOL
Black Flags Matter how do you feel when Denny Hamlin win the Daytona 500?
I still believe Bayne isn't a bust as he never got a fair chance
he didn’t have a fair chance he didn’t drive the car when it had the team penske alliance

At least Trevor can say he has more NASCAR wins than Danica
President Donald J. Trump this is golden
Funny, every driver who ever won in NASCAR has more wins than Danican't. Worst. Bust. Ever.

Jeff Foran I have definitely thought about doing that one and doing a “Rose and Fall” Series. I’m considering doing one on DEI.
I think if it wasn’t for Bayne, Wood Brothers Racing would be out the door. I feel like Menard will get at least 1 win in 2019, I hope he runs good.
Paul Menard left the team in good shape for continued success. I hope that Matt DiBenedetto does well with the organization in 2020.
