If SJM wanted Rhysand and Feyre together, she could've just had Tamlin and Feyre break up amicably. Mutual breakups happen. People fall out of love. It happens.
I really wished this was the way she would have went about it. Because how she did Tamlin was not it.
This happened with Chaol and Celaena. No one hated it.

I just feel like SJM doesn’t know how love works, like people can separate without someone doing something awful. Maybe she shot herself in the foot by describing the love between the characters as “unbreakable” or whatever. Just feel like it’s a bad message for teens, teaches people to constantly point the finger at other people when something bad happens.
Seriously, the whole premise of Tamlin and Feyre's relationship was based on trying to break a curse. I wouldn't be surprised if after it all was over they realised that, whilst they like each other, it's not in THAT way. It's actually more believable than what happens in the books. I'd love it if they had simply just realised they didn't work as a couple and parted amicably.

I agreed so much with Tamlin when he just responded to Rhysand's vile comment with "get out." Tam's clearly not a villain. He is a fallen and lost hero who needs help...just like the other characters. Rhys was allowed to slip up but not Tamlin? I think they could have done so much more with this character. The author made a misstep here. There was so much hypocrisy in this book that it feels like the author lost the pulse on what each of the characters' motivations were and also the spirit of the holidays that she is meant to portray in general. Also Lucien, who is genuinely a good faerie. Man, give these spring court guys a break.
i havent even read book 2 and 3 because ACOTAR was so painful to push through, but I'm shocked at what SJM has done to Tamlin. He actually was a bearable love interest, which is rare to find these days. Also is everyone forgetting when like Rhysand had Feyre grinding on him when she was under that potion thingy---😀
The part where Feyre is talking to the weaver is so funny to me because her husband died in battle where he was fighting alongside the summer court, and in the scene where Feyre was getting spicy in battle with Rhysand the book specifically pointed out how she could hear the screams of people on the battle field from the summer court dying. Coincidence? I think not.

I stopped reading before writer could ruin Tam's character for me. He was a good guy in the first book. He, a high lord, bowed, forehead on the ground, to save this bi**h's life from RHYS WHO WAS ABOUT TO MURDER HER.
I've never been so disappointed in character undevelopment.
I haven't even read the series, but I still occasionally headcanon ways to help Tamlin, a character I barely know because I just feel so bad for how he was treated throughout the books (both as an individual and a character whose journey and development was under the author's full control).

Literally, I had to stop reading because I liked first book Tamlin. Weirdly enough, of all the characters he's actually the one that felt most like a Faerie to me. Like sure, if you want to break him and Feyre up, go for it- their relationship is based on breaking a curse, I wouldn't be surprised if after it all they realised they didn't actually like each other that way. There's ways to do it.
Why not just have it be that he comes away from the relationship a better person, sometimes acts as their ally against the big bad (some interesting awkward tension could be created by their previous relationship) and then eventually finds his own real love?
My guess is that she's fuckable to him, and Tamlin isn't.

If you thought that author amped things up in this book, then wait until you hear this: I saw an interview with the author and apparently the next book in the series was supposed to include a threesome scene but it was too hot so she had to refrain from including it. No joke. She didn't say with who though.

I know this is two years old and I'm sorry, but I had to chime up because I've just finished Frost and Starlight and am still ??? at how many times Rhys remarked he'd be fine with having a threesome in this book (I think I counted three?). I had to stop reading and take note each time one of those comments popped up because it seemed a pretty out of character thing for Rhysand "don't touch muh mate or I'll kill you" to propose, let alone be so casual about, and it perplexed me.
Not that threesome scenes are inherently bad, I wouldn't think, just... make it make sense, yaknow?
... This is my conspiracy theory, but having read your insight maybe that was foreshadowing. Or just SJM discovering a new kink, we may never know.

I think Tamlin was a self insert for a boyfriend. In the development of book two they broke up and that is why Tamlin is a villian for no reason. This novella reminds me why most do not read novellas. It's not even a good Christmas story. 😕
I really appreciate everything you say about Tamlin. Their hate on his crossed the line into excessive and maybe even a smidge of bullying. Plus all of the night court gang have done messed up things. Are fans ok with it because Rhys has been acting to protect Volaris? He's literally been known in most of the faerie world as the biggest scariest asshole ever. Kicking Tamlin while he was down was not cool. Also, the running joke of Rhys being an uber woke feminist continues to make me peepee laugh...laugh until i also let out the peepee.

My friend convinced me to read the first book, because I love beauty and the beast story. Yesterday night I was in the end of the first book, when Feyre "gave herself" to Rhys, I stopped. That was totally twisted for the character on the first place. She was so strong in mind!!!!! Then she did that?! WTH! I didn't sleep for the rest of the night, really, I LOST MY SLEEP! Then I started to research about the books, there are so many holes on the story that I don't know how to begin!! Specially about the personality of the characters.
Give yourself in the middle of a war is not a sign of a strong character! Sit back as powerful as you are and don't be a true fighter is not loyalty!!! And always try to sell that the character you want to be bad, when you sold him good in the first place is try to dictate the opinion of your readers. That's specifically what I don't like about this kind of books and authors, when they manipulate the readers, making them think the way you want them to.
The author appears to want us to love Tham. Then oh, now I want them to love Rhys. Oh wait a minute, there still is a team Tham? Oh, no, this can't happen! Let's just kick Tham again.
I read so many books like that, it just reminded me why I don't read series longer than trilogies, the authors start to twist the characters and stories.
Again I didn't finish the FIRST BOOK and I already knew it would be a MESS!!! That's why I stopped!
Maas should have played more Dungeons and Dragons to learn how to build a character and make the decisions that would be related to their alignment and personality.
