    You did a great job on your boat, a lot of people are choosing to repower now. Economically it makes more sense, especially if you like the hull you have. I would take a Suzuki over any of the others right now. I hope you have a great trip!

    You solved so many issues that so many small center consoles have. not enough room in back, t-top or cover in way of fishing, can't get all the way to the transom, etc. Very nice work and thanks for sharing.

    You made a video on what our game plan was to a "T." We repowered a 20-ft 2009 Jones Brothers Bateau flat-bottom skiff and figured we saved ourselves about $20-30k. We searched high and low for a boat with good bones and went from there. It did need a new fuel cell put in and at that time we made the decision to repower. In our estimation, we have a new boat to us. The marina we trusted with the upgrade stated you now know the history of your boat and have peace of mind. We have friends and family who bought new because they can and they've even had problems with new boats. Great video! Enjoy your time on the water!

    Great job coming from a guy that rebuilt a 1981 18 foot Bluefin dual console that I rebuilt into a CC and dropped a new Mercury 115 on a few years back.

    I fully agree with your mindset. I bought a 2001 Sea Hunt 210 over 11 years ago for 10k. Ran it and loved it for years. All original with the Johnson 225 OceanPro 2 stroke. In January of 2020, I thought I was going to start the process of shopping for a new boat. Put that Sea Hunt up for sale and it sold for $10,500. Shortly thereafter, the world fell apart with covid, and boat prices started skyrocketing so I gave up the idea of buying a new boat. As
    luck would have it, 6 months later the guy that bought my boat was laid off from his job due to covid. He called me up and was desperate to off load that Sea Hunt… so I bought it back for $6,000!! I’ve run it ever since and have done a number of things to restore it and it’s still a perfect boat. That 225 OceanPro runs like a top. I’ve just started the process of shopping for a re-power. I will probably go with Suzuki as well. But for 11 years of fun and memories on the water, I’m only in 6k, and with about 17-20k for a new motor, I will have essentially a new boat for 23-26k. This boat has more than paid for itself. People are crazy for dumping 60-90k for 19-22ft boats. And lastly, I have friends with the new Sea Hunt 21ft models, and I swear my 22 year old model is built better.

    Awesome Video - I got a 2002 Sea Pro 19' CC. All Fiberglass no wood, flotation and self bailing deck. it has a great flare and a dry ride. it's In great shape. It's got a Honda 4 stroke, runs perfect. when the motor dies, it will be repowered. I compounded the gelcoat out it looks so good ..

    I have a 23 y/o 18’ Hydrasport CC with an original 2 cycle 150. I repowered last year to a 4 cycle 150 Merc. The Merc is heavier and has changed the trim a little bit but certainly manageable. The boat feels like new. Going from 2 cycle to 4 cycle has improved my relationship with my outboard exponentially. The old 2 cycle smoked too much and always killed at the most critical point of docking.

    • @saltybushwacker2023
      @saltybushwacker2023  Рік тому

      yeah my boat rode a bit different with the heavier 4 stroke and the fact I put it 14" back on a jackplate made her a bit more "ass heavy"..But like you said ...very manageable and worth it. Good luck with it

    Nice Largo! I just bought a 25 yr old Bayliner trophy pro 1903 CC. I tried to stay away from Bayliner 😂 but I always liked the trophy model. I only had a budget of $6800 to work with. I looked for months drove many miles and spent many hours looking. I found that 90% of the pictures of the boat were from when they bought the boat. You get there and it's trashed or nothing like the conditions in the pictures. I found newer boats that were money pits and their asking $7,000 or more. This Trophy is in beautiful shape and solid as a rock. Stringers, transom and floor all solid and inner + outer hull in beautiful shape. I have been working on her for about a month. Everything is there all original so I'm just putting in new bilge pumps live well saltwater wash pump and heat shrinking connections that need it. Customizing her to my needs and buffing the interior. The exterior hull is already beautiful. The rub rail is original and almost flawless. I hope I can keep that way 😂. I'm confident that I can sell this boat tomorrow for more than I paid for it. I did put $ 400 into the trailer but now it's like a brand new trailer. Watch out for boat brokers! They ask thousands more for the same boat you can find on your own. The internet has thousands of videos on how to make sure the boat is worth buying. Also be real don't expect to find a perfect boat. Any used boat is going to need work but if you can do most of the work it's not as expensive as people make it out to be. It's expensive if you can't turn a wrench and pay someone else to do it.

    Could not agree more! I've been on boats for 50 years.
    New boat prices are beyond insane. Not just the initial cost, but buying used you get A LOT of extras. Some of the new designs were not developed by someone with experience on the water that's for sure.
    People worried about warranty, I don't know how they are going to make it if they are unable to perform their own maintenance and work, you'll spend 10's if thousands even on a small bayboat

Oh yeah and I did all new LED lights probably some stuff I'm forgetting too. Put all in I'm probably 25k and got a boat big enough to run a little offshore catch fish.

My old boat has a new motor so I flipped the motors, glasses new plywood deck and all new wiring. I flipped my old boat for 2500 and only spent about a grand on materials. I have the best 17ft boat on the east coast now. She already been 23 miles offshore for shark and tuna and she runs WAY better then my buddies Montauk. I'm a bit under powered but the boat is a tank. The hull is amazing. I'll never buy a new boat ever. I don't want to be a sucker. Cause that's what they prices are for, suckers. Not to mention they barely make my style anymore anyway. "Call for price" usually means "astronomically high" but it also reflects the fluid nature of the whole industry's pricing. I saw a gorgeous boat, at a boat show, the "sticker" said "Regularly $175K...Boat Show Price $147k", then under that it said "today only... $138k." Which tells me "call for price, if it's been a good or a slow week for the salesman, we may tell you something very different". 😁✌️

    You have to consider also, you'll likely have to replace components to the fuel tank (God forbid the tank itself is in good shape) and redo the wiring. The trailer also has components that might need new parts too. So the most likely candidates... fuel pickup, fuel lines, re-wire, new batteries, repower then you essentially have a new boat.

      @saltybushwacker2023  Рік тому +1

    For $26-30K you can buy a new Key West 1720 with a 90hp Yamaha four stroke. May save some elbow grease.

    • @saltybushwacker2023
      @saltybushwacker2023  Рік тому +3

      I think the 1720 is a bit closer to 35K and once you add tax and accessories your closer to 40K. That's with 90 HP vs the 200HP I installed. Those motors differ in price roughly 10 - 11K.
      A 17 ft boat might be OK for some boaters, but for us that was just to small and unsafe of a boat. A 22 ft Key west Bay boat is in the 60 - 90K range. Prices really increase on boats once they are larger than 20 ft.
      I personally like the older boats (key west & Key Largo) because they are not only cheaper but they are made heavier and stronger IMO.
      Those 1720 are a nice setup for a load of 2 - 3 people who stays near shore, but our family needed a boat carry 4 - 5 people, or dive gear, or a lot of fishing gear, and be able to handle offshore conditions. Our boat in the Keys allows us to run bay waters and go 20 miles off shore on the right day, knowing we can safely make it back if the weather turns. Plus it has the 70 gallon fuel capacity to handle long runs like the 330 mile run we made from West Central FL to Islamorada(check out the video) We also plan on making a run from Islamorada to South Bimini in the Bahamas(70 miles)
      The 2001 Key Largo 206 I refitted came with 2 different hulls that year. a bay hull and the one I found, which has the more aggressive offshore hull like the 24 footers come with. This boat really fit our needs and fits in out slip. I would have got a older 24 ft hull and repowered with a 300 suzuki if it would have fit next to our houseboat. That set up remodeled would have cost 40K vs 70 - 90K new.
      I'm not criticizing those smaller boats, but they just don't meet our needs that the larger 20 plus footers do. Unfortunately, bigger and more HP means more $$$$ weather you buy new or older.....😩
      Thanks for watching Jesse!

    guess i'm just old skool but never will i put a 4 stroke on my boats. My efi mercs and my e-tech 300 are just amazing, better fuel economy and majorly less moving parts to blow up. More everything and a whole lot less weight. A properly tunes efi or etech uses very little oil and are just amazing machines. You guys using 4 stroke engines.... if that is your thing, more power to ya. After 50 plus years as a marine mechanic I have yet to see a 4 stroke hold up and never have I seen one coming close to take off, top end speed or anything else. Not to mention my wife loves the smell of burning 2 stroke fuel :-) Best to you guys but I can completely rebuild a blown 200 two stroke for a couple k at most.... I have engines from the 60's and 70's still running strong as well as 80's 90's and 2000's. They just work.... as long as you do proper maintenance and care. If not... well your 4 banger will not last either if you neglect it. Never thought I would see the day that a 200 outboard would run 26 to 36 THOUSAND DOLLARS OMG.... lol

    • @saltybushwacker2023
      @saltybushwacker2023  Рік тому +1

      Nothing wrong with a older 2 stroke, especially if you a experienced marine mechanic. Unfortunately I am not and it's nice to have the security of a warranty.
      I have a buddy who runs twin 300 E-TECs that he bought new, and they are very impressive motors. Quiet, powerful,and pretty reliable. It's to bad they stop production of them a few years ago due to bankruptcy. He has to drive an hour to find some one to due his warranty work due to the lack of dealers now.
      I ran a 2 stroke pro xs 250 mercury back in 2014 when I was guiding and loved the performance of that motor , but it was thirsty for fuel and oil. After that, I have stuck with 4 strokes. My wife does not like the smell of the 2 stroke and would always say our boat sounded like a leaf blower....lol.
      I just purchased my 200 Suzuki new 5 months ago, and it was not 26 to 36 THOUSAND DOLLARS....It was $20,500 installed with the fly by wire, smart guage, prop, and tax. That is with a true 5 year warranty. Bought the older boat for 6K and sold the T-top and 2 stroke 140 off it. Have a total of $26,000 ish total into the boat and love how it turned out. It really fits our family's needs in the Keys.
      I can do fiberglass and fix stuff , but I wish I had your mechanic skills. that's a skill that saves a ton of money. To be able to rebuild a motor is awesome! All I can do is service the motor, and anything beyond changing a water pump is beyond my skill set.
      Thx for watching...
