Thank you for the video 👍 Just got my boat back. Re-Powered 250 Yamaha, new wiring, cutting out the transom due to softening, New transom all the way up with new custom wide top cap full across, offshore bracket, cutting out compartments customizing making more room on boat, new transducer, under water led, black oak led etc, deck paint etc. The main thing I learned is you have to know exactly what you want and where you want it installed. It sounds funny, but you will have to know more then the boat guy in most cases. Do not rely on the shop to make their own decisions which will lead to double or triple time spent and wasted. PLEASE take your time and put everything on paper before you hire any shop. The numbers on this video are very generous. Whatever the numbers are X2-3 because in all reality you will definitely end up adding more than you expected to the boat. Enjoy and be safe 🤙
Great Vid. I did a repower rather than a new boat. Went from OMC to Suzuki which can be easy but I got one of the newer DF140BT's and no more "big red plug" anymore.
Those wiring jobs starting at 9:00 are freaking beautiful man. I’m looking to replace my 1997 Force 75hp two stroke unreliable outboard. This is a helpful video. Thanks.
Good Evening All: I love your channel & your videos. When you have technicians Tuesday I always learn a lot even though I've been working on cars for 60 years. Please keep it up, TMP from N.J.
As long as your fuel tank is good, or replaced. and your fuel lines are replaced. Also fuel fill and pick up are good or replaced. as well as the batteries. and cables Go on with a repower. If not you will have new motor with old boat problems that will ruin your new motor.
I had a new install and rigging at the Boat Grotto in San Diego great service. They also took pictures every step of the way..thought that was great!!!
@@tannermontana93 yes I did! Good experience and they were quick with the return. It probably took them 2-3days. Not one issue out in the water. You won't regret it when you're out in the middle of the ocean and your engine starts every time.
I put a 150 Yamaha 4 stroke on a pontoon in 1 day and fired it up . I have had a few off and on but I was happy with the time. I had to unload the motor from a trailer and I had to make a tool for that. Pretty straight forward in the same day installed hydro steering , all and good for little experience.
1994 150 yamaha 2 stroke just broke the steering arm bracket (rotted) they say i have to pull the powerhead off might not be worth it going to watch a few videos and talk to people and make a decision - glad it worked for you
I looked at repower & rigging a really nice deep V aluminum 1987. Compared to the cost of replacing everything. I Can spend 30%, and have an eye turning , big water safe boat. The selection available and cost of new boats in Canada is prohibitive.
Whaaaat? 13,000$ engine, how many hp? I hope it has more hp beside mine. Me 3Weeks ago I bought Yamaha 90hp engine for “17,000$”. It’s just because I live up north in Quebec.
I want a 175 Yamaha VMAX, the Yamaha CL5 display, hydraulic steering, a Garmin autopilot system, a 10 inch Garmin fish finder with the live scope, new SeaDek, a 12 foot Power Pole, and a 112 pound thrust Riptide Terrova to put on my boat. Too bad I do not have $35,000.
I would love to install a fly by wire engine, just to do it. Years ago, I swapped out an Evinrude set up for a new Yamaha on my Grady White, overnight. 24hrs after I took my engine, I called the dealer to come do the initial start. Fred Arrow, Arrow marine offered me an engine installing job on the spot. He said, it takes his engine installer 3 days to outfit a boat, when I did it overnight! I replied, it takes me 3 days to re-block an inboard. For my love of boats, I did not take the job.
My 1952 Chris-Craft was on its' third engine when I owned it in the 1970's. My current boat is 16 y/o and on its' second. I've repowered several boats. A good boat outlasts the engine. You can recover half the price every ten years if the engine is still solid. I've done the same with trailers. Old boat - fresh motor - fresh trailer - makes sense for the right boat. Try finding a 1952 Chris-Craft these days.🙂.
The biggest take away that I’m seeing here is… the Florida keys has access to motors for repowering and NJ doesn’t. I just bought in cudjoe key so maybe one day I’ll have it sent down there for the goodies if I can’t get it done up here. Great video as always Aaron
Yeah that is not true, in Florida you will wait months, almost a year, last I heard Yamaha was 76 weeks out. Only used outboards are available and no one likes those down here, cause people do not know how to handle boats down here.
It's amazing the amount of money somebody will spend on a re-power and looking at some of these old boats that they're putting the new engine on and all that money into is crazy they should be in the junk heep
On boats with 1-2 motors, generally between 8 ft and 34 ft, go ahead and repower, but triple or even quad, nah just take care of it and maintain it, with quad 425 Yamahas, ur looking at like 250k in just motors right there
i just got my first boat and I am rebuilding it its a 1997 I don't know the name of it but its trash it don't come with nothing but watching you all the time I feel like I can do it no prob
I found a place that has both rebuilt and refurbished engines and they will install the motor and rigging for a 150 hp for around $6500 The engine's vary but most are two stroke and they can be older engines but in really good shape and a warranty of 6 months. I'm probably going to go for an optimax or Yamaha 150 hp and new rigging. The minute I do that this boat is no longer a great deal that I found and it becomes a loss. I will never get the money I put into the boat back. Right now I can easily sell it for a $3500 profit. I may just decide to have my 1987 black max rebuilt for around $4500. It's a gas guzzler but it still performs well and I fell in love with the power and sound of this engine.
I saw quite a few clips of Sea Bee’s in there. How do you like working on those boats in specific? They’re built right in my neck of the woods in Miami
oh my God underneath some of those consoles looks like the dash of the space shuttle!! I guess the kiss system isn't part of some people's boat. problem with all that crap it's pay me now or pay me later!!
Yeah, lol most of the people that have all this stuff smashed in the boat don't keep them long enough to have to deal with the problems that come when all that stuff starts to mess up lol
Bro... I'm working on repowering my boat. I also need to put a new tank in... it's a 1991 boat and the current tank is 69 gallons (odd its 69 on the plate). What do you think about putting a smaller tank in? Thinking of going with a 50 or 45 gallon tank and taking the open space and making it into some floor storage. What do you think?
Great vídeo, but the question remains, how much is the total cost assuming you want a single engine replacement of the full package with labor? We assume the new engine with the essential new components/rigging costs $13 -$15k, and then how much is the labor? Not sure that got covered in the video and would be great to know.. thank you.
NICE VIDEO THANKS FOR IT GOT A QUESTION, I HAVE A 2005 MERCURY50HP 2 STROKE / LOOKING TO UPGRADE TO A 50HP 4 STROKE WITH TRADE WILL THE WIREING BE DIFFERENT . FOR A 2 STROKE / 4 STOKE . THANKS
I rewired my boat by watching your videos and a few other videos. As always another great video. I wanted to do a re-power myself but didn't know how to order an engine and have it sent to me. Is that possible? Many places have told me i cannot order and engine.
Can you get trade in money for the old engine, or do you have to sell it by yourself? Is there ever a rigging job that will work on a new engine and use the old rigging?
You could likely use the old rigging if, for example, you managed to blow-up a 2 year old Verado and just wanted to replace it with the same thing (only new).
Honestly I'd rather buy a solid boat without an outboard and repower/rig it myself. A basic center console, no T-top, with a single V8 Verado and I'd be good 😎
Thank you for the video 👍

Thanks for the information. Take-away: Always ask your installer for his WORST CASE estimate. That way your surprises are pleasant ones!
Please Lord let my 2006 90 Evinrude E-Tec run forever.
I agree Kevin please lord let my 97 Mercury 115 2 stroke run forever damn.
I repowered in 2019 with a new 90 etec and it was like 11k installed. That included the throttle cables and everything.

Yes-they are really well done and I would pay extra for that kind of pristine quality.there’s nothing worse than sloppy wiring.makes me cringe

Very good point, on top of what you mentioned, throw in all thru hulls, bait tank, electronics etc and repower for twin engine boats is really a big ?
I had a new install and rigging at the Boat Grotto in San Diego great service. They also took pictures every step of the way..thought that was great!!!
I'm planning on taking my boat there to get repowered .

Man! what a great content! Thanks a lot for sharing all that information in all your videos. For more guys like you!...
I would think right now with the rising cost of everything, that a repower would be a smart choice for lots of people with hulls in good condition.

You are pretty much correct on everything you said. Good job.
Thanks for this information, my boat is at the dealership for a single engine repower currently.

Yep, definitely need to start my own lubetube channel, your wiring looks very nice though, will give you that
