Favorite rush album. I’ve always liked it more than 2112, and I feel Hemispheres is the finest display of their instrumental powers. This album also proved to me that Geddy Lee is the rock bass GOAT
In Cygnus Book I the traveler entered the black hole (Cygnus X-1) in his ship the Rocinante (the name of Don Quixote’s horse - like Don Quixote, Rocinante is awkward, past his prime, and engaged in a task beyond his capacities) and the traveler’s body was destroyed and "every nerve was torn apart". In Cygnus Book II the traveler's disembodied spirit passed into Olympus and he was made the God of Balance between love and reason.
Great reaction!! I told you they were going to come at it a different way. Basically at the end of Book I, you can hear a heartbeat which tells you he came thru the black hole in some form. He came thru as a “ghost or spirit” . He arrives in Ancient Greece and is observing the Greek Gods Apollo (logic and reason…the left hemisphere of the brain) and Dionysus (creativity and emotion… the right hemisphere of the brain) fighting over the souls of the people! So it’s a euphemism! Then later in the song, you hear snippets of Book 1. That’s when our character makes himself known..when he interrupts the battle between reason vs emotion! When they hear his story of where/when he comes from they realize there has to be “balance” between the two! Pretty brilliant writing!! Hence the summary of “The Sphere” (which is my favorite part and should be practiced everyday in these times we live in)!! The message of this song is more relevant today than it was in 1978!! Glad you enjoyed!! Keep the RUSH coming! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
Thanks for doing it Jone. Yes 18 minutes but not one boring second and gets even better the more you listen. When I acquired my new Rush albums I would first of all just listen in anticipation to the general music and lyrics of the whole album. Then I would dedicate my ear to the guitar. Then the bass. Then the drums. I could then relax and take in the whole experience without missing a beat. Three very decent, humble guys dedicated to their music conjuring up a masterpiece and not for the first time. With Neil's skills at drumming and writing, Alex's multi style inventive guitar playing and Geddy's prolific bass playing and stratospheric vocals not forgetting keyboards and Taurus pedals (sometimes together) Rush have written a multitude of songs about a vast range of subjects over many decades. I really don't know why (probably to do with money, greed and contracts etc) but in the early years the music press had it in for Rush. They were hostile to the band, their music and in particular Geddy's voice. The band toured relentlessly and proved them wrong winning the praise of the fans who spread the word multiplying their numbers into a world wide following spanning all age groups. I for one always loved the high pitch Geddy had when he was younger. That along with his accent and the way he phrased and used vibrato was so mystical and magical. For me Rush are the quintessential progressive band of highly talented and gifted musicians that have ever graced a stage and boy did those three guys perform (seen them 3 times). Their shows were well thought out just like their music. They performed purely for the fans entertainment not like some of the egotistical so called gods, hero's and self acclaimed stars. Rush are the real deal and don't let anyone tell you different.
Usually Neil writes the lyrics and gives them to Getty and Alex who write the music and at some point change things lyric wise or music wise with discussions with Neil till they achieve the end results. 🤘RUSH🤘was a well oiled machine that worked to achieve greatness. If you ever get a chance to read Neil has written some amazingly good books and is a way to understand his thinking. Neil Peart was a very well read ,smart guy that had some great philosophies about life . Smiles 😃 from 🇨🇦
It starts with the back story on Farewell to Kings (Cygnus X1 the journey into the black hole) and then you get the transference into spirit after he goes into the black hole when the protagonist meets with the gods who listen to him and then take pity on him and bestow him with god or demi god powers and we finish with an epitaph morality tale having gone through the latter journey.
Saw this live in 79 (not Kings but spheres)(...I was 11) ,Greatest moment (musically) till i saw them on the Moving Pictures tour 81 (UK).I had kids after that .and it pales,But still the best 2 Rush gigs i have seen ,and ive seen them 87 times in the UK ,Europe ,North America (that includes Canada). Then in the 90s i saw Tool my god.
I really loved this when I first heard it and I still count it near the top because of how different it was to me. This was a tamer version of Caress of Steel in terms of complexity, but I felt that COS had more dynamics and varieties of songs.
Hi! I'm a bit of an idiot so I'm looking at your page where it says what gear you use but I don't see the headphones. I am in search of the "right" headphones. For me. Please tell me what you (U) (ewe) use.
You're lying, your micro expressions show that you've already watched the video and you're trying to remember to react to the song. Just put the desire to put you patreon on screen.

This one is right up there with 2112. Geddy’s bass is amazing.
Literally music of the gods
*by the gods 🙂🙂

Interesting man. GEez!
I really LOVE how much you have been listening to/reacting to RUSH; they really were a special trio and a must listen band for guitarists.
This is truly one of their masterpieces. Prog does have similarities to classical music.
Cheers
My favorite song from my favorite band
This song is so incredible. I can listen to it over and over, the 18 minutes fly by so fast. Such a masterpiece
The second half of a masterpiece.
Cygnus Book 1 & 2 are simply amazing.
It is considered one of the best progressive albums of all time.
18 minutes of greatness 😁

Rush is an endless journey to the mysteries of life. Still finding something new after 40+ years. Cheers❤

Dream Theater were heavily influenced by Rush of course
It's epic, unequaled.
The greatest rock band of all time!❤

Awesome! :)
The last of the album brought me down to earth. 😅
A truly incredible piece of music and concept from three twenty-something’s.
I guess I was used to the lyric cramming but yeah most just followed one another lostandaimlessliketheirbrothers for their hearts were so unclear.

@@obiwanbenobi4943yep, The Fountain of Lamneth is still my favorite of their epic songs.
