- Baca got broke off going big for Baker 4, but no words can describe his dedication quite like this video. Twenty-seven bus trips from Vegas paid off in the end.

David Bivins we have to know each other some how for sure some how
Kenny Anderson too!
Brayden szafranski, Kenny Anderson, ragdoll and vinny Vegas are all from Vegas. Vinnys last name I cannot remember but it started with a G and sounded Italian I think. They all made it in skating at least for a bit and are from Vegas. I feel like theirs more that I’m missing. I didn’t say cameo because someone else mentioned him. That addie Fridy dude rips super hard but I wouldn’t say he “made it” in skating. Vegas has produced its share of gnarly dudes.

Actually so sick. I love how relatable 'My war' segments are. Whether you're pro level or beginner, if you've battled a trick that's got inside your head, you can relate. These are just on another level !
@martin gonzalez bro for some people that shit really gets to them I got some homies who are getting into skating and one of them had his own little 6-7 month battle w the kickflip bro that shit will really bug at people sometimes; I guess to be totally honest it's just some things really click different for everyone
I didn't start skateboarding til I was 22. when you work 45 hours + a week on top of social life and relationships and playing music, progression is very slow and you can seriously battle basic tricks, I've no shame in saying it took me about 3 years to get kickflips and that REALLY got in my head. (No other trick has troubled me like that).
Anyway I was more thinking skating gaps or grinds can be real battles even if it's not that big. It's all relative. If it's hard for you it can be a battle.
@martin gonzalez it's skating dude
@martin gonzalez Sometimes it's a one day or multiple day battle. When I was learning BS Heel Flips I remember one day I really wanted to land it. I ended up spending 5 hours that day attempting the trick over and over again. The next day I spent another 3 hours on it (it was a weekend). After that I finally rolled away and was happy with it. Damn it felt so good to finally land!
6 hour bus ride, 12 hours there and back, 27 visits... 324 hours on the bus for this trick !!
Damn you actually did the math lol. For real this was gnarly tho so much dedication
That's almost 2 full weeks. Damn.
And what bro? He just need to take the bus, easy as fck
@@-__--__ name one cool thing you have done with your life
White Shadow I’m not saying taking the bus is an achievement 😅 it’s just a lot of time travelling to get a trick! Kinda illustrates the skate madness when something is stuck in your head and you know it’s possible... those are long journeys home by yourself beat up after not making it. Long journeys there just thinking about trying it. Running out of time for the video. Just rad he worked so long for something he wanted to get. (Not everything in life is an internet confrontation, sometimes people just comment on a point they find interesting)
most amazing part about this is that they never got kicked out

All great photographers and filmers are usually the first person to say ... this spot it out of your skill zone ... lets go somewhere else ... and come back when you are ready ... atiba is for sure that guy ... he said that because he knew dude had it .... knew he needed to pay for diapers ... and took a great photo.
so what part of that don't you understand?
i think he does other photo stuff too, theres a pic of him with Kobe Bryant
sammy's lil homies are growing up to learn to try harder and never give up. this was very moving.

The whole video I thought it was an earpod
One of the biggest things skateboarding instilled in me since the time I first got a Walmart deck for Christmas is ‘99 was persistence.
This is the video I show non-skaters when I speak about why I love skateboarding and the lessons it has taught me.
We’re hard-headed as fuck. We will attempt the same shit relentlessly until we complete it. Two of the best things I ever encountered in life that I am forever enamored by are reading (READING IS FUNDAMENTAL…pick up a book based on something you enjoy and you’ll never stop reading/growing/learning) and skateboarding.
Don’t know where I would be without developing a lifelong love for either of those things.
All time favorite War, keep coming back to this for encouragement.
I’m glad he was honest about how he took the advice at the end.
The way that he shouts out to his boys as he's about to go for it is my favorite part. Sammy seems like a genuinely good dude. Also props to the crew that went with him 27 times. Loved this episode!

2 years later I come back to watch this video still one of my fav my war thrasher videos
this is the type of stuff that gives me motivation to skate, 2 years on and off and I've only ever landed 1 heelflip, no kick flips and can barely ollie up curbs.
but seeing people have this much commitmens to 1 spot/trick just makes me want to go out and try the tricks I can't do yet.
respect to the pros and the skaters that put the effort in
lmao I remember when I was 14 and had to practice in my basement because we only have 4 months of good weather. I landed a heelflip accidently before I ever landed a kickflip. Couldn't get heelflips down after either. I swear half cab bigflips were easier than kickflips.
I walked by when he was trying this on the day he got it. I wanted to stay and watch the session but have never been comfortable creeping in on sessions.
You're a good person. Having a peanut gallery watching you stress out and eat shit on a scary/hard trick is the worst.

True on the suggestions! Forgot Milton had a My War at the car wash. Gabbers, Clive's, Burman's, Black Dave's, Nuge's, not to forget Miles silvas' line... All really really gnarly. Hard to say which one but i think this might be my favourite now, given how much of a battle it was.
As a fellow skater, I've got nothing but complete & utter respect for any/everyone who's been featured on "My War." With that being said, this is hands down my favorite "My War" segment ever!!! Nothing but absolute love & respect to Sammy Baca. Way to see it thru cause that shit was a battle and a half.

This is by far the best “My War”
This is easily the best of the "my war" series I've seen so far.
I work my bones to a stage of broken every single day and that still doesn't compare to this level of determination.
As time goes on, I miss how impactful a feature length video felt a decade or two ago, whereas today, we can get a million little clips online. That said, one flaw of the feature length video is how quickly some of these major moments go by. This clip of Baca is just ONE clip among many in Baker 4. I think they did a good job of showing how many times he tried this in Baker 4, but some other videos don't give you that human element of how much it takes to accomplish some of these tricks that you see in a video. When you watch 60 minutes of one trick after the next, there is a lot of missing context and story that goes into all of these attempts before it. That's why I like "My War" because it brings these accomplishments down to a personal level that any Average Joe can somewhat relate to. I kinda wish more feature length videos try to add these personal stories into the video itself. I personally find it really compelling to watch.
I've never seen a bad "My War", but this one is my favorite by FAR

>repeatedly attempts extremely dangerous physical trick without a helmet for 27 weeks
he should try mental tricks instead. much safer
Yeah, I have a lot of respect for this guy, he seems like a good dude and he's obviously a badass, but...
That part at the end where he's like "I had to get the trick because I'm trying to get diapers for my kids" and I just think that's total nonsense. He already had a clip of him nosesliding it, they could have easily used that in the video. It's not like he gets paid more if he lands the shuv-it out. In fact I'm pretty sure he actually ended up losing money because of all the bus tickets, but I'm not sure if he paid for them himself or his sponsors did. Anyway, I understand that he felt like he needed to land the trick, but I think it's ridiculous to act like he had to land the shuv-it for his kids or something.
@@angryhobo212 Agreed, not saying its also not impressive, but for that kind of time, a shove-it ain't worth it, doesn't make the trick *that* much cooler tbh
angryhobo212 then there would be no war... i think thrasher flashes the cash for this.
@@nostromer Obviously it does make the trick that much cooler. The difference in skill required was 27 trips in year+ of attempts. He was nosesliding all day. This was his part ender his biggest trick all the people talk about and produced this video. You have to realize he's in video with loads of guys who go ALL out on their enders. A noseslide isn't enough even the editors felt it.
Big tricks raises his community love, which raises his deck sales . Then people wanna buy your shoes, your bearings, trucks, etc so you get big sponsors. Then you get a cut of that. That's how being a pro skater works. The more banger tricks you do the more the community likes you, The more money you make. You also get huge likability from these video's. Which also massively helps raise his community stock.. 700 000 people seeing his determination, his skill, etc
Sammy baca is a dangerous man with the never quit attitude....I like your style
I have so much respect and admiration for this guy, such a rad skater, and an even better father.
The fact that he’s Raiders fan just shows the fight in this guy. Good shit brother.

This shit is so unreal I felt truly terrible inside for them while they were working so hard to make it. It must feel amazing to pull it off after such a risk
It’s literally the best feeling in the world. You try a trick literally countless times just to land it one time. When you finally get it and you’re rolling away and hear all your friends yelling it’s a pretty amazing moment. I’ve been skating for 22 years now. I am 30 now and started when I was around 8. We always filmed and made videos for our local skate shop that are on UA-cam so I have filmed a few video parts. Other then working skating was literally the only thing I did as much as I possibly could up until a couple years ago. I got into storm/tornado chasing and got hooked bad. It’s exactly how skating was my whole life. I still skate but I’m getting older and my body isn’t as forgiving as it once was. I guess you could say I have a really addictive personality because I get hooked on stuff so hard. I mean I’m 30 years old and in my entire life I have only had 2 hobbies. They have taken me all over the country and world and led me to meet some amazing people so no complaints here.
