Shane was 100% right about this. His obsession with Lori is the only thing he was wrong about. He should’ve let her go and helped Rick make good decisions and protect the group.

Shane depended on Lori and Lori depended on Shane thinking her husband was dead, Lori immediately broke contact with Shane and lied to Rick about it making Shane go a bit insane since she was the only purpose he lived through the hordes. Shane didn’t know what to do except keep moving forward until he broke and tried to kill Rick so he could have Lori. It was Lori’s fault Shane went insane.

It was Hershel. Being around him gives your ranged weapon an infinite ammo buff.
Hershel needed to see that, that point was the switch he needed to realize what walkers really are, he said so in the bar. Plus, at this point they were using ammo left and right for practice.

Imagine if Shane survived to the end of the show. The Endgame Rick/Shane combo would have been enough to take anything head on.
There definitely would’ve been clashes over Judith, but I could see him MAYBE avoiding being killed or exiled by Rick
What I liked about earlier seasons was how they felt so raw and personal. Like when Hershel’s face dropped when he saw the walker he was holding onto should’ve been dead and all his beliefs were getting challenged by Shane’s gunshots. You could clearly see that Hershel knew deep down in that moment, that Shane was right.
I think that's why he didn't try to do anything when Shane was opening the barn. He just stayed down and tried processing what was happening around him. Then they got put in a spot where they had to "practice what they preach" when Sofia came out, so Rick wasn't just making the tough call in shooting her, he was also proving Shane had a point and he knew it.
TWD just like many other TV series the producers are too greedy and just want to produce more and more shows until no one wants to watch it...
That's also part of the reason why BCS and Breaking Bad are good, they know when to stop.

Honestly the Lori-Shane-Rick situation was the only reason Shane died, but when you think about it, it was Loris fault. We all know Shane loved Rick like a brother, but he got attached to Lori, and as soon as Rick comes back, she pretends that Shane didn’t even exist.
