Glad to see someone mention this! It's a funny movie, but definitely not meant for kids (unless edited for TV, so you get "Don't fool with the babysitter" instead of what she really said).

GenX. I think maybe we're better parents, but I also think we've shielded later generations too much from the world. Us GenX'ers are survivors, we're tough, and innovative because we had to be. We know the dangers that exist in the world, but I think we protect them a bit too much.

Us 80s kids were far more adventures than kids today because we had no Internet etc so we had to play out, normally from morning to night. We would often go and adventures, thats why this film spoke to us, it was the ultimate adventure. This was one of the best kids films of the 80s.

I was a 90s kid, didn't have many friends but I did have a Game Boy Advance. I grew up on pokemon gens 1-3, old school super mario world and a couple of zelda games. I honestly did not have a first friend until the mid 2000s, people avoided me like the plague because of my autism.

I saw this in the theater when it first came out. I was 9. There was actually a whole scene after they went down the waterslides that was cut out. It involved a really bad animatronic octopus attacking the kids in the water. It scared the crap out of me as a kid, though. Also, it's so funny to me that Sean Astin (Mikey) and Josh Brolin (Brand) went on to star in two of the biggest franchises in cinema history.

Man, this is one of my all time favorite movies. Thank you for doing this. There is so much awesome trivia associated with this movie but I will keep it short. Jeff Cohen (Chunk) actually felt a kind of way about his portrayal in this (and the other movies he had been in) and stopped acting because he got tired of being The Fat Kid. He became extremely health conscious and lost the weight. He went to Richard Donner (Goonies director) and asked for a recommendation to get into college. When Donner read Cohen's notes detailing his early life and struggles (being overweight and "Truffle Shuffle") Donner and his wife 0ffered to pay for his college education. He became a successful lawyer.

Did you notice when she starts singing "Rock a Bye Baby" to Sloth & she gets to the "When the bough breaks the cradle will fall" part, he angrily yells "Break! Fall!" & rubs his head/eye & she says "I only dropped you once" then "Well maybe twice" before he throws her overboard. It's basically saying she dropped him on more than one occasion while he was just a baby & it's implied that he suffered breaks & injuries (possibly head trauma) & that maybe this explains what happened to him that he turned out the way he did, which, as sweet as he is, this part & the "Mama, you been bad" parts always saddened me tremendously bc Sloth deserved alot better in life. I'm glad that Chunk took him in at the end of the movie as much as they care for one another.

Stephen Spielberg made of the scariest "family films" of the 1980s, and Goonies is one of the best.
Astoria, Oregon still has an annual Gooniefest, and a couple of years ago, it was huge, with most of the original child cast showing up to watch the movie with the fans. I think the family house is still standing, and the other Victorian house featured in the movie is the Flavel Museum.

A couple of things you should know:
    1) Their mention of an octopus wasn't them making shit up. In the directors cut, they actually had to fight a monster octopus in the waters outside of the pirate ship.
    2) Even in the 1980s, the salvage laws in the U.S. would have put that ship in the possession of the people who found it, and given the fact that every single one of those adults knew that the Goonies rediscovered it, the ship and everything on it would technically be theirs, so them and all of their families would have been rich after the events in this film.

The movie takes place in Astoria, Oregon. But interesting fact- Josh Brolin is Brand, but is in Deadpool and is referred to as One-eyed Willy. He also plays Thanos. Corey Feldman as Mouth is one of my favorite characters. They have a reunion every year where all the actors come out to Astoria for a Goonies film festival, which is really cool.

Anne Ramsey, who played the main villain, Mama Fratelli, is mostly known from 2 80s movies: this and a comedy called "Throw Momma from the Train", starring Danny Devito and Billy Crystal.
I suggest you watch the Alfred Hitchcock movie "Strangers on a Train" first because 'Throw Momma..." is partly a spoof on it.
Also, Corey Feldman, who played Mouth, was in a lot of movies in the 80s and 90s. He was in "The 'Burbs" which starred Tom Hanks. Hanks' wife was played by Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia from Star Wars). It's a mystery comedy. Feldman was one of the neighbors.

I loved this movie when I was a teenager, it was filmed in Astoria, Oregon about 40 minutes drive from the little town I lived in and we would often go to Astoria for summer vacation or kite festival, crabfest etc... it was one of the first films showing landmarks I was familiar with and that made it more relatable.
Also Kindergarten Cop was filmed there if you want to see more of the beautiful Oregon coast.

When traveling for work, I went out of my way to visit this place (Cannon Beach) in Oregon. I got some pics right before sunset (with those rocks). Notice when they’re riding their bikes near the beginning. It’s very much like stranger things in season one. Same vibe. I’m so glad I grew up when I did.

He was 6' 8" and almost 300lbs and played defensive end for Oakland Raiders most of his career. And if I remember correctly Data had a different belt for each and every different functions it had.

Spielberg couldn't fit it into his schedule so he asked Richard Donner to direct. Donner had never worked with kids and didn't think he'd like it. It turned out that he became a father figure to them and they became a family. After filming Donner invited all the kids to his home in Hawaii. They all turned him down and it left him heartbroken...but they had planned it and showed up together to surprise him.
