One thing I've always loved about that movie was the soundtrack. Contemporary music plus some old stuff and totally rad 80 instrumentals during the flight scenes.
Great reaction! One of the absolute best all-ages adventure movies ever made. Full stop, no argument. This is a movie anyone can watch and enjoy if they're kids or at least remember the excitement of adventures as a kid. The cast was brilliant, the story was brilliant, and the whole thing was brilliant. It still makes me sad that they built this entire ship for the movie, and when it was over they tried to find a home for it, tried to give it away, but no takers. It was busted up for scrap. Seriously sad. But I loved that they hid it from the kids (excluding Feldman who I think stumbled into seeing it early) until they shot the scene so that was their real reactions to it. I'd have been impressed as heck too to see that towering over me. 😲 The late John Matuszak, former NFL defensive lineman, played the role of Sloth and had fun with it. He died before he was 40, which is a shame, but he had both health and substance issues which contributed to that early end. Joey Pants and Robert Davi played great roles as the brothers in the movie. Anne Ramsay was great as Mama Fratelli too. In the scenes where Mama whacks Jake, she was directed to actually hit Robert Davi as hard as she could for realism. 😀 And I was always impressed by Jake's singing voice, which I figured was dubbed in, but I found out later that Davi had actually been classically trained for opera singing. It also amused me when I learned that the woman who plays Rosalita, and who is American born and fluent in both English and Spanish, helped Corey Feldman learn how to say the properly lines where he's leading her around the house, "translating" for her. She was also amazing and perfect in her role. I just love watching her react to the events in the crazy house. 😀
See, I like watching these videos. They both are clearly movie buffs, pick up on actor and director quirks, and really touch down on a lot of stuff in movies, even doing a great job with subtitling and focusing on subtle things in these movies. Other people just do 12 minute videos and load it up with memes and poorly cropped images, skipping over MAJOR things in the movies.
A few have talked over the best lines in the film they are watching. The meme thing has gotten way out of hand. And some of these folks have the personality of a zombie in Night of the Living Dead.
I always felt that Kerri Green was really good in this movie, hitting the emotions perfectly. It's a shame she never really achieved stardom, but I really only saw her in this and Blue Flame.
Love Goonies. I would not be exaggerating if I said I’ve seen it a hundred times. I think it has a very underrated score too. It was done by academy award and multiple Grammy award winning composer David Grusin.
I had never noticed how Chunk's clumsiness always had a lucky dimension to it. When you pointed it out, it made me think of Hurley, in Lost, who feels like the most unfortunate guy in the world while being also extremely lucky all the time.
Astoria is absolutely beautiful. Its right on the oregon coast. Perfect location to film a movie about discovery, i feel the same sense of adventure every time i visit.
I grew up not far from Astoria and I'm surprised more movies aren't filmed on the Oregon coast. It's so wild and beautiful here! Then again, the rain is probably a big deterrent for a lot of filmmakers.
Absolutely perfect cast for a perfect movie. This is what defines the 80s. Maybe we made it too perfect and that is why nothing else can meet such high standards these days. Either way, glad you guys watched this and glad you enjoyed it! Next up, Revenge of the Nerds.

Glad you guys watched with subtitles because there were a ton of funny moments I missed when I watched this 100 times on VHS as a kid. I am proud to say I own this movie on DVD it brought back so many wonderful childhood memories of mine watching this movie one of the best movies I’ve ever seen ❤❤❤❤😊
This film has inspired references/easter eggs in so many other films/shows since: Jurassic Park, Stranger Things & Deadpool 2 just off the top of my head. There's a brilliant BTS/deleted scenes video on here (channel is "Hats off Entertainment") that's well worth a watch too, with a whole sub-plot involving gorillas escaping from the Zoo & the Octopus is explained.
6:19 This is still one of my favorite movies of all time (Childhood Ranks #1 Goonies, #2 Hook, #3 Muppet Treasure Island, I like pirates) and hearing about the Nintendo game Goonies 2 I always thought there was or would be a sequel, but alas there was not.
As a 70's baby and an 80's kid, Goonies and E.T. more than any other movies of the day captured the Fun and Essence of 80's kids PERFECTLY. We were Inquisitive and Adventurous, we rode our Bikes Everywhere, we only stayed home to watch cartoons, the Rest of the time we were Outside with our friends! I was the Sean Astin of my group, well Part him and part Chunk tbh. The World wasn't Viewed on a smartphone or laptop...you Had to Go OUT and Explore it, See it for yourself. We Made Our Own FUN and didn't Depend on Mass Media to Entertain Us 24/7, We had No Social Media as we Had to go OUTSIDE to Be Social. But one of the things that Hasn't changed since then...Kids apart from the Technology...are Still the Same Kinda Kids TODAY as we were back then. I look at the kids at the bus stop when I take the 6yr old to wait for the school bus...and I See the Same Personalities. Really in the few instances in Today's films and shows that Try to Nail that 80's feel, only Stranger Things has managed to get the CLOSEST if not Spot On to nailing the era. Everything else has Failed to do so. Even though I'm 49 now, the Goonies MAKES ME FEEL YOUNG. At Heart at least. Because even though the Goonies Characters are Unique...I SEE People I KNOW in them, from the kids to their Parents, I KNOW these characters because These characters were...Are US 80's kids. The 80's as far as I am concerned is The GREATEST Era in Film history hands down...there has been No Equal to it since. It inspired the Greats FUN, the Greatest Action, the Greatest Comedy, the Greatest Horror and the Greatest Sci Fi and Drama. Because it was ALL NEW. All One Offs, All Special because of the Rarity and VARIETY. The Greatest Era of FULFILLMENT in FUN and EXPERIENCE so far. Everything since has been a greater focus on Sequels and Reboots and Reimaginings with Fewer and Fewer stand Out, Stand Alone stories. Like Big Trouble in Little China...I DON'T and DO at the same time, WANT a Sequel....but that Magic Couldn't be Recaptured I don't think and it's a PERFECTLY REWATCHABLE story that Really, Like the Goonies, NEVER GETS OLD.
This was such an inconic movie for us Gen X 80s kids, we all wanted to be Goonies and go on these adventures. My friends and I used to explore all the storm drain pipes around our neighborhoods. (Don't do that kids, it's dangerous) Also I had such a crush on Stef
You can definitely tell that they are genuinely friends. Even to this day. Chunk is now an entertainment lawyer that represents Ke Huy-Quan. And when Ke won they all made videos congratulating him.
I saw this movie as a kid so many times I think it really made me fall in love with adventure movies. It has such great "kid logic", like this is how a dangerous treasure hunt would happen in a child's mind.
From the first time seeing this movie as a kid till now it has been one of my favorite movies. I have to admit I was afraid of Sloth the first time I watched it. I thought the actor really looked like that till I found out it was, John Matuszak, who’s been in lots of movies as well as played in the NFL.
13:53 Don't forget who wrote the screenplay 😊 Also, The one brother who wore a hair piece (who kept saying he *didn't* wear a piece) was also Cypher in The Matrix. The other brother who sang Italian was one of the "Agent Johnsons" in Die Hard. If you recognize Stef, currently she is doing the comedy series Sprung and she was also in the very funny sitcom Raising Hope. Mikey and Brand's mother was the police psychologist in all the Lethal Weapon movies...and to associste more Hollywood royalty with this film, throughout the 80's and 90's she was married to Robert Zemekis.
i recently watched finding ohana and i didn't realize that the goonies inspired that! it only clicked when the lil kid did that thing with the pendant in 8:51 plus ke huy quan is there too!

I love this movie, grew up with it and still watch it any time it's on tv. Which is usually in the summer haha. It's a fun 80s adventure, Chris Columbus and Richard Donner were having fun with it. Plus the cast is spectacular. Glad you guys enjoyed it
The Goonies is one of the few films that me and both my younger siblings all agree on and would watch together as a family, over and over.... and over.... and over...
This is my number one movie of all time with The fifth element in close second. No matter what is happening in the world this movie will make me forget everything and relax while watching.
This movie is a whole lotta fun, and brings back plenty of memories. Thanks for enjoying it so much. I agree that the ending feels a bit abrupt. There is more to the story, but it was revealed in the novelization of the movie. The book goes into greater detail about the aftermath of the Goonies' adventure. Without giving away too many details, it describes in depth just how amazingly happy the ending of their story was. And it puts an adorable period on the charming relationship between Sloth and Chunk. Keep the great videos coming!
So many lines from this that me and my brother and friends have been quoting for over 30 years now. When someone says the wrong word you'd reply with "that's what I said I'm setting booby traps." Someone has to pee " hey Mikey gotta go to the bathroom" And of course "hey you guys" was the most used out of all of them.
It's a fantastic movie! And you're right about the danger. Today's movies are so sanitized. Everyone's so afraid to scare the children or that parents will get upset. But we survived without trauma. Heck, some of Disney's best classics are some of the scariest kids movies around! I'm glad you enjoyed this one. Check out a Ringo Starr movie from the early 80's called Caveman. It's very weird and fun!
A GREAT kid‘s adventure movie! The pirate ship „The Inferno“ was built using the design from the 1940 Errol Flynn movie „The Sea Hawk“. The ship was certified sea worthy by the US Coast Guard and could have been sailed. The ship was destroyed after filming as no one wanted to claim the vessel. I remember seeing an ad in a Spokane newspaper in 1989 or 90 which had the ship up for sale. Guess there were no takers as the ship was 105ft long and would have needed a large crew to man her. But what a sight she would have been…… Cheers
Excellent movie. And, yes, we were a lot more feral and independent as kids in the 80's. During the summer, we'd be off on our bikes at the crack of dawn, and as long as we were home by dinner time or the street lights came on, we were good. Our parents had little to no idea where we went or what we got up to. Including roaming drainage tunnels and wooded areas.
Its my child hood movie, i love it so much. I went from France to Oregon to see some of the places in the movie. I went to an hotel on Cannon Beach (Where the big rock is) and the desk staff gave us the DVD of the movie to watch because so many fans are among their clients.
This movie perfectly encapsulates the 80s adventure. We all rode off weekend mornings on our bikes and wouldn't come home till dinner. There were weekends my brother and I would put easily 50 - 80 miles on our bikes exploring roads and trails etc. Was a very different time. This is one of those movies that as much as we all want a sequel, it honestly should never get one... because nothing can live up to it. Also, Anne Ramsey in this role scared the absolute shit out of me as a kid. A more modern homage this this Spielberg style kids adventure is Super 8. Really fun film that also perfectly captures the group of kids as friends... nicknames, friendly insults, etc.
To me, The Goonies will forever be the ultimate "kids' movie". It had EVERYTHING; comedy, action, romance, horror. Perfect.
And adventure.

Flight of the Navigator was such a great movie. I concur this choice. Either that, or The NeverEnding Story.
I agree with ALL OF THESE!
One thing I've always loved about that movie was the soundtrack. Contemporary music plus some old stuff and totally rad 80 instrumentals during the flight scenes.
There are a handful of films from my childhood in the 80s that I love JUST AS MUCH now as I did way back then. This one is definitely one of them.
The late John Matuszak, former NFL defensive lineman, played the role of Sloth and had fun with it.
I love that they made Mikey and Brand actual loving brothers.
I loved that the one that played Chunk was at the Oscars with Ke Huy Quan.
This movies like another of my Favorite movies as a Kid "Monster Squad"
Love Goonies. I would not be exaggerating if I said I’ve seen it a hundred times.
I think it has a very underrated score too. It was done by academy award and multiple Grammy award winning composer David Grusin.
I didn't watch The Goonies until I was an adult with kids of my own. My own kids love this movie. Such a classic!
One of my absolute favorite movies as a kid. It really embodied all the treasure hunting adventures that filled my daydreams as a child.
I had never noticed how Chunk's clumsiness always had a lucky dimension to it. When you pointed it out, it made me think of Hurley, in Lost, who feels like the most unfortunate guy in the world while being also extremely lucky all the time.
Yeah it's hard to unsee once you notice it, right? 😂
Astoria is absolutely beautiful. Its right on the oregon coast. Perfect location to film a movie about discovery, i feel the same sense of adventure every time i visit.
Ivan Reitman's "Kindergarten Cop" was filmed there.
I grew up not far from Astoria and I'm surprised more movies aren't filmed on the Oregon coast. It's so wild and beautiful here! Then again, the rain is probably a big deterrent for a lot of filmmakers.
@@Madbandit77 You can actually see the school from Kindergarten Cop in some of shots from the Walsh's porch.
Absolutely perfect cast for a perfect movie. This is what defines the 80s. Maybe we made it too perfect and that is why nothing else can meet such high standards these days. Either way, glad you guys watched this and glad you enjoyed it! Next up, Revenge of the Nerds.
I... do not recommend Revenge of the Nerds. It aged poorly, to put it mildly.
@@JinxedPixie88 Ahh... fair point. It did have some things in it that might be uhh... controversial in today's world.
Controversial is no excuse (Blazing Saddles anyone). RotN is an OK movie.
How about Weird Science?
@@TGNXAR Some controversy is fine. Want to do a little voyeurism scene, okay. but that one moment is beyond the pale. He's not a hero anymore. He's a predator.
@@TGNXAR Instead, how about Porky's?
So here’s something cool, the house in this movie was getting renovated by my Great uncle and was approached by some Hollywood peeps to be used in a movie, this movie. Since they borrowed use of that house we got to keep some props they used like several of the statue that got it’s… well… dong broken off my Great aunt still has them around somewhere.
Oh also my dad told me that the hand holding the coin at 8:48 also was my uncles hand, I guess they thought his grubby beat up hand looked the part!
29:41 Willy appreciates that
Glad you guys watched with subtitles because there were a ton of funny moments I missed when I watched this 100 times on VHS as a kid. I used to fall asleep to this movie then and its still one of my favorites to this day. I could never understand Chunk when Sloth kissed him and said "Man, you smell like phys. ed.". I always thought he said "fish head". lol
I love this movie, I have for decades. But I still to this day, hate hate hate that they all sit and watch a ship full of god damn treasure float away.
What an amazing choice of movie, I was actually laughing at your reactions. LOVE thsi moive. They really dont make them like this anymore! -Thanks for that reaction, it made my day!
I am proud to say I own this movie on DVD it brought back so many wonderful childhood memories of mine watching this movie one of the best movies I’ve ever seen ❤❤❤❤😊
Never gets old however many times I watch it. Thanks.
The mom criminal was in the hilarious movie Throw Momma From the Train with Billy Crystal and Danny DeVito.
Down here, it's our time. It's OUR TIME DOWN HERE!
You guys are hilarious. I love your reactions and laugh right along with you. GREAT energy!
Loved the goonies it will forever b a classic. I love the fact u both laughed all the way through the movie . Great reaction
One of the world of Warcraft dungeons it's fully inspired for this 😂😊
6:19 This is still one of my favorite movies of all time (Childhood Ranks #1 Goonies, #2 Hook, #3 Muppet Treasure Island, I like pirates) and hearing about the Nintendo game Goonies 2 I always thought there was or would be a sequel, but alas there was not.
"you are my greatest invention" will forever be one of my favorite lines ever
Like Big Trouble in Little China...I DON'T and DO at the same time, WANT a Sequel....but that Magic Couldn't be Recaptured I don't think and it's a PERFECTLY REWATCHABLE story that Really, Like the Goonies, NEVER GETS OLD.
i luv watching these vids with youguys. awesome
😁
13:53
Don't forget who wrote the screenplay 😊
Also,
The one brother who wore a hair piece (who kept saying he *didn't* wear a piece) was also Cypher in The Matrix.
The other brother who sang Italian was one of the "Agent Johnsons" in Die Hard.
If you recognize Stef, currently she is doing the comedy series Sprung and she was also in the very funny sitcom Raising Hope.
Mikey and Brand's mother was the police psychologist in all the Lethal Weapon movies...and to associste more Hollywood royalty with this film, throughout the 80's and 90's she was married to Robert Zemekis.
the mom was also the mom in Monster Squad.
Holy crap, I never pieced together the hair piece brother was Joe Pantoliano. Now I feel stupid
i recently watched finding ohana and i didn't realize that the goonies inspired that! it only clicked when the lil kid did that thing with the pendant in 8:51
plus ke huy quan is there too!
and the fact that it's both about finding treasure to keep their houses too
If you guys haven't watched it yet, I recommend Monster Squad! ^^ It's like if The Goonies had a Halloween sequel.
Either way, I'm super psyched you guys watched this. Loved this movie since I was a kid (born in '85). Cheers, mateys!
I love this movie, grew up with it and still watch it any time it's on tv. Which is usually in the summer haha. It's a fun 80s adventure, Chris Columbus and Richard Donner were having fun with it. Plus the cast is spectacular. Glad you guys enjoyed it
The Goonies is one of the few films that me and both my younger siblings all agree on and would watch together as a family, over and over.... and over.... and over...
This movie was my jam back when I was a kid! It's because of this movie almost every little boy at my school wanted to go on a treasure hunt.
Goonies, Gremlins, young Sherlock Holmes, the best way to celebrate Columbus Day.
Saw this in the theatre last year. It was a treat to watch it with others. One guy was busting a gut with sloth and chunck saying "hey you guys."
The Goonies has never lost its magic.
When someone says the wrong word you'd reply with "that's what I said I'm setting booby traps."
Someone has to pee " hey Mikey gotta go to the bathroom"
And of course "hey you guys" was the most used out of all of them.
Great reaction. I didn't see this one until i was well into my 20s, definitely wish I'd seen it as a kid but it's a blast either way.
As an Oregonian, The Goonies is definitely a movie i am proud to say was filmed and took place in my home state 😊
Yay I've been waiting for you guys to watch this one.
This was one of my dad's favorite movies, we used to watch it all the time when I was a kid.
One of my favorite movies. When Chunk tells about him pretending to throw up gets me every time.
This was fabulous! You guys crack me up! The editing is top notch. ❤😂
As someone who grew up on a lot of the movies you've reviewed, it's nice to see your reactions.
