      I agree! herding breeds are the very best. My first Dog that grew up with me through my childhood was a Standard Australian Shepard. My next dog and companion of 12 years is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Hoss. Herding breeds are such incredible, loving and intelligent breeds. ❤️

    I came across your personal content on Tik Tok and immediately became a huge fan. I recently got a mini Australian shepherd, and through research, your videos began popping up on my recommended. My little Aussie is quite a wild child and has some pretty stressful anxiety, but something about watching you and Frankie interact gives me hope that I can be a good dog parent and have the bond that you two have together. Watching this video now while my new 9 week old Mini Aussie is chewing below the desk. TOTALLY relate to the story about the beginning of crate training. Somehow my little pup took to settling in the crate when I would lay my thumb through the grate on her bed inside. Non-verbal but it seemed to help her immensely and its been pretty smooth sailing crate wise since! Thanks for the story and love watching these videos!

    • @ava5038
      @ava5038 3 роки тому +1

      It’s manageable, however i have a large yard. If you have a yard, not a problem. If you don’t, this might not be the breed for you if you aren’t willing to play or take them on walks constantly. I put mine outside unsupervised, keeping an occasional eye on her, and she will stay out there for hours.

      Understand that researching the good and the bad about this breed is essential. Aussies are returned to breeders often because folks just really don't know what they are getting into. My experience with multiple Aussies is that they take at least two years to really calm the heck down. To establish a Frankie to the Moon relationship will require a tremendous, tremendous amount of time and patience on your part.

      I have one with a three year old and a baby (6 months now) She is so good with them. When she gets really excited she’ll try and nip their heels (trying to herd) but once you tell her no, she’s completely fine. The three year old is super energetic, so I find her to be a good companion dog for her. She’ll bring her ball to them to throw or her toys. I actually have a video of her bark (talking) as a puppy to the three year old. They are amazing family dogs and as long as you can split time between the kids and your puppy, they will be fine.

      If Frankie did that, I would walk in front of him to separate the connection and show him that there is nothing to be worried about and I can handle my own and we are safe. So by standing in front and not just yelling at him, it shows that the situation is okay. body language is way more powerful than words

    • @brittanylockwood6085
      @brittanylockwood6085 3 роки тому

      Mine used to have this issue too, but mainly larger breeds. She does it with people too. Aussies love their families and are very protective of who their family is. So your Aussie is anxious and viewing others as a threat to you and their family. Blocking eyesight and reverting attention helps. It worked with mine, but she still did it sometimes. We got her into obedience training and she really got better. She still has issues with certain dogs. My neighbor has a golden doodle and they are not good at respecting boundaries. She’s still not good with him, but she does much better in general. I think the most important part is getting your dog out of eyeline of the people and other dogs.

Too many irresponsible breeders were introducing other breeds such as Chihuahuas and Pomeranians into the lines to reduce size, thus changing the breed. True Aussie breeders, owners, the AKC and ASCA refuse to even acknowledge the "mini Aussie." Look at Frankie. Just his head. I have found that when they are young puppies (a few months old) they tend to bite and chew. But I found trying to circumvent that with bones and toys helped. Now she’s over a year and doesn’t bite people or animals. She does nip, but that’s her ingrained herding instinct. You can’t get rid of that, but you can try to help modify the behaviors.

    They are Australian Shepherds, they came from Australian Shepherds. The name mini American Shepherd was created just for distinction between the two for dog breed registration for pedigree purposes.

      There really is no officially recognized breed called a "mini Australian shepherd" nor a "mini Aussie." Too many irresponsible breeders were introducing other breeds such as Chihuahuas and Pomeranians into the lines to reduce size, thus changing the breed. True Aussie breeders, owners, the AKC and ASCA refuse to even acknowledge the "mini Aussie." Look at Frankie. Just his head. He very much looks like a smaller version of a "standard" Australian shepherd. Look at some other "minis" and you will distinctly see the influence of Chihuahuas and Pomeranians. However, these dogs are very popular and there's nothing inherently wrong with them. That's why they are now classified as their own breed, the mini American shepherd, which is recognized by the AKC.

      @@jenniferdixon9707 so when searching for a breeder ...do you search mini Australian or mini American ?

    • @jenniferdixon9707
      @jenniferdixon9707 2 роки тому

      @@ChantelStays Look for both. Just remember that the breeders out there who will market their dogs as mini Aussies cannot provide AKC nor ASCA registration.

      @@jenniferdixon9707 ok good to know, it really appreciate your advice...I've been wanting to adopt for so long now. I have one more question though...essentially...they will have the same characteristics and temperament ? Or, the mini Aussie..because of being bred with other small breeds...would be different than a mini American ?

      The AKC only recognizes a standard Australian Shepherd as an Aussie. Minis and toys are recognized as American shepherds. It’s an AKC registration thing. Minis and toys are not recognized as Australian shepherds per their standards. But it’s the same dog breed. Just the sizing is the determining factor.
