I just got a flirt pole for my Aussie. It works on the "prey" drive I suppose, but it's a good game of chase for us! I love it for days I don't want to go to the park and just want to hang out in the backyard! As much as I would love to go out every day, it's just not possible with my schedule. So doing a quick session in the morning and afternoon has been working pretty well for us. When I'm gone, I've been hiding treats in Holle Roller Balls/ Bones and using scrap blanket paper to tie around and through it. It takes Koda about thirty minutes to pull the knots out and get the treats!
Get a dog walker if you can't fit a walk into your schedule. It's cruel to deny a walk. Social isolation. Lack of stimulation. Even if they don't meet others on a walk there are all the smells. You should do more of these videos that are informational/comparisons. I have an English Shepherd (very similar to Aussie) puppy and this video showed and answered my wonder of how dramatically excersize affects a dog's behavior. It would also be fun to hear what type of food you buy for frankie/why you chose it and what foods he likes or doesn't like compared to other dogs (for example, my dog hates sweets/strawberrys!)
The second question with food has already been answered in another video of Frankie, sadly I am not sure which. He feeds Kibble as Frankie doesn't realy tolerate raw food. He also said which brand, but I am sorry I can't remember :(
@@lukasehrentraut9208He made that video recently I think. My dog does eat kibble but he's really picky so sometimes we give him that beneaful soft mushy stuff on his kibble. So he'll eat lol
Would love to see a video on how you got Frankie interested in frisbee/get him to catch it. We have a 4 month old standard Aussie and he is only sometimes interested and never catches it in the air lol
I would say just keep practicing with them and gradually he'll understand when to catch it in the air. I have a border collie mix puppy whos 8months now and he only learned to catch the frisbee mid air around 6-7 months old. Dont give up on your puppy he will get it at some point!
Yeah it’ll take awhile. I started by getting my puppies to chase the toy, then when they are amped up and running I would put it over there head getting them to jump for it, then over time throwing it and eventually they just start to like to catch stuff. You can’t always get them to like a frisbee, my collie likes to run things down and catch them but not usually with a frisbee. Find your doggies favorite toy, start slow, give praise often and make sure you say “good catch” and teach them to “get it” so they understand what you want of them.
We're working on this from a bit different angle since our aussie girl is very food motivated: We taught "catch it" with tossing treats (giving bonus for successful catches), and then worked on "catch it" with the Frisbee (BIG bonus and celebration with catch). She's 6 months old and we're at an arm's length distance. Best of luck to you as you work on it too!
3 month old border collie puppy here. She absolutely loves chasing things when they roll on the ground, like a ground roller frisbee or a ball rolling on the ground. Seems like she has trouble tracking things in the air because she is so young. Its encouraging to hear that others dont really see object catching happening until 6 month. Just keep playing and things seem to happen naturally. :)
I have an Australian cattle dog and situation is similar, I definitely agree working their mind AND body is key to having a happy and calm doggo. Dash loves fetch, water play, his herding ball and his food time puzzles :)
"If they have a day of absolutely doing nothing, they're gonna go crazy" Cue my dog who sleeps in till 11(don't dare try to wake her before that, she'll give you the worst stink eye), then goes downstairs to go outside to potty and to eat and then sleeps some more
I have a toy poodle mini Australian Shepard blue Merle blue eyes and he’s a hyper pup 6 months old and I love the energy cause he gives me positive vibes
Thank you for info and clarity on exercise required. I pick up my Australian Sheppard Border Collie Cross pup in two days. Looking so forward this. I am retired so I have some time for this.
REALY good video man. I just inherited an Australian Shepherd and he is a LOT. But I am committed to giving him his best life, just to honor my wife's mom. Also, he deserves it. I'm just glad to see the things I've been researching match with what you're teaching. Thanks again for the video.
I highly recommend getting some balloons, my Mini Aussie loves herding the balloons and keeps the mind busy as well. Good for those indoor days or when you have to work from home.
Great video, I'm considering getting myself a Border Collie but I was afraid it would need 16h of activities every day. Nice shots, music and editing, too. It seems you, your partner and your dog are living a great life, and it's very beautiful the area you live in.
My parents have 3 Border Collies. I would really really recommend you to think about getting one very long. My mom goes to agility training 1 time a week + a little agility training in the garden 2-3 times a week + tournaments on the weekend (that was of course before the Lockdowns in my country) + 2 walks a day that take around 3 hourss combined. The dogs are still hyper. Petting doesn't help, but tricks do. Border Collies can be even more crazy than aussies. So as much as I love the dogs I grew up with (the oldest one is now 14 and such a cute deaf grandma) I would never buy a Border Collie unless I have very very much time in my everyday life. What I got is a very cute little stray from Romania and she is the sweetest thing. She can go crazy with her Border Friends but she is way calmer and doesn't need that much input.
I have a border collie lab too! She’s bipolar lol, she can cuddle forever and then she can go and play outside for 30 minutes. She does get tired more quickly than pure Aussies or border collies though but I really would love to get an Aussie or a border collie in the near future :) I love hyper dogs and love playing outside with them and I could go forever, my girl has a short attention span though :) she is only one though
@@SamtheSWE what do you do with him? My dog (Tessa) is somewhat food motivated but doesn’t really follow a lure. She’s the same way with toys, maybe if she really likes the toy then she’ll follow it a little bit but her attention span is super short lol
Another great video! For my 11 mo, her "stir crazy" is cumulative. She can go a whole day or maybe even two or three (especially during winter storms) without really exercising, but I better plan on making up for it later! Our routine is usually up early, and she goes to work with me every day (I drive a truck for a living). She doesn't get much exercise at work although I DO get her outside even for a few minutes, every chance we get, and she always has new sights, smells and sounds to check out. Her "job" at work is usually just to help me run a tight ship and to keep an eye out for elk, deer and other obstacles on our journeys. BUT, most every day after work, it's an hour on the beach with the chuckit stick and/or frisbees (have you tried Frankie with multiple frisbees at the same time yet?), and often we get to spend some time with some of her doggy buddies too. She's pretty much grown up with her best friend Barley, and even 15 minutes of chasing each other around and rough play is far better than nothing. Weekends, if the weather is nice, looks a lot like your four hour tour. Hiking, frisbee, tennis balls, wrestle with dogs, more hiking.
Frankie is so talented even talented than me!!if you can,can you show me how your showed Frankie to do dog tricks?!I would really help!!luv your vids btw!!
I'm glad to see your video. I am contemplating rescuing a young Aussie, but, after seeing this, I'm concerned that I won't have 4 hours a day to keep her exercised. I need to rethink it. Thank you.
Thanks for this video. I was considering a Mini Aussie, but this video has shown me I don't have the time needed to put into this breed. That really sucks...for me. Good luck with Frankie.
My prettyminiaussie_juliette is my best friend! You inspired me to start playing with her more. We walk everyday and go swimming. I've always thought she needed a buddy to play with so I've been searching for a rescue dog but I live on Grand Manan Island NB in the Bay of Fundy. Or another mini aussie. But I've recently did a huge renovation and i got a brilliant idea for lots of scrap wood for an obstacle course! I just need someone to build it....can't wait it will be fun for both of us! She's 31 lbs and all muscle but tired of being told she's overweight. I'll keep you posted. 😊
2 long walks a day, frizbee in the yard, zoomies in the evening chasing the ball, sitting out front watching squirrels, after work chill listening to nieghborhood at patio table, visit to friends house, trip to Rural king....all in a day
I live on a farm and yesterday, was shearing day for our sheep. 2 sheep escaped the pen and we were chasing them all around the fields. Man was I wishing I had a trained herding dog then! I have a Australian cattle dog, Australian shepherd, pit, boxer mix and he helps a bit but the boxer is his predominant trait not much herding ability. I’m definitely planning on a pure bred cattle dog or shepherd sometime soon.
If the weather is bad…We play fetch in the house! All of my dogs… Six Aussies so far… have been up for exercise when I’m up for exercise. The rest of the time they are chilling. I found that those puzzles work for about a nanosecond. Aussies are too smart. They find the treats so fast that the puzzle is worthless. So playing fetch in the house, hiding treats, is only something I have to do if I want to. The rest of the time they sleep. So when I hear people talking about having to spend hours exercising or stimulating their Aussies, I’m befuddled. They are perfectly capable of stimulating themselves LOL my current dog, plays by himself, throws the ball by himself, buries his toys by himself, explores on his own, and every once in a while he will try to dig his way to China.p.s. If you have something for him to eat that he was not interested in, put it in your mouth and get it wet with your saliva first. He will be thrilled to eat that. And if you go to the dog park, my mini wants to go in with the big dogs! He is smarter than they are. He is faster than they are.

Anyways back on topic mine only needs 60 mins a day thank god i have a park across my street and a safe neighborhood.
My pittie mix gets really annoyed and mouthy when not exercised, his bare minimum is a 2 mile walk with some fetch in. I would love to do frisbee because throwing the kong hurts eventually. Beautiful pup.
Have you put out a video of where you learned to train Frankie. I am getting a three year old dog/ Labradoodle soon and I would like to train her in a respectful & kind way. Great video! What a lovable dog Frankie is!👍🐶🌙
During a recent training session a dog trainer told me that my dog (she's something like a border collie x gsd mix) is about to develop a ball/frisbee addiction. Have you ever heard of that or considered that Frankie could get addicted as well?
Everything comes in moderation. He loves his frisbee, and I love pasta. Do I have it everyday? No. Does he play everyday? Nope. Limitations are what help us control our “addictions”. If he had his frisbee out every day all day long, then it might be a problem. But he is only allowed it when I take it out.
My English cocker is completely obsessed with tennis balls although I’m not sure if it can really be classed as an addiction. If I have a tennis ball nothing else matters, he just stares dead into my eyes as he walks in focused heel waiting for the next throw. He clearly loves it so I would never deprive him of it entirely, and it’s a very convenient way to get a lot of exercise in a short time, but I have stepped down to 3 ball sessions per week. It can’t be healthy for a dog’s mind to be so single-tracked, plus he will seemingly run to the point of exhaustion without noticing, which is great but not every single day. My dog trainer told me that you need to let your dog choose their training reward, maybe use the ball obsession to your advantage?
Jeez! I wander if I can go on with my aussie like that and if i made really wrong choise picking aussie! I simply do not have free 2-3 hours every day to spend with my pup.
We've been visiting Bruce PIt lately as we will have our Aussie in a few weeks. Bruce seemed fantastic in the winter but a few weeks ago the amount of unpicked up poop was shocking. How was it when you were there last?
Frankie is so pretty it reminds me of a sander sides thing I don't remember the thing but it was something with the " And The guy that was walking him was okay" Its just Frankie is so pretty everyone near him is just average idk
Aussies are the bestiest. And to be honest they get a bad reputation for being unmanageable but in my experience it is almost the opposite, they are so smart that as long as you are calm and consistent and don;e let them trick you they are incredibly easy to manage....
Ammmazing!! Love Franky ♥️ I have an aussiedoodle. How do I teach him to go between my legs when I walk? He kind of does it a little (on his own) but obviously not the way Franky does it but he does stay behind me and likes to be very close to my legs when we walk.
I’m 13 and getting a mini Aussie. But I have to travel to a whole different continent for 6 weeks. And my dad will be home with him all day but can’t entertain him all he can do is give my Dog toys and walk him 30 or 45 min a day. But we have an extremely large yard and another dog for him to play with. Is that enough? When I’m back I homeschool so I would give him a lot of attention! But is it enough exercise and mental/physical activity just for those 2 months

Same! Thank gosh for fetch, which can be done indoors even when I'm sick.
My boyfriend and his girl Emi have a special bond. ❤️ Love watching your videos! I can tell your dog makes you so happy, too!
Dogs truly are man's best friend
Frankie and definitely made me believe that saying
Thanks for replying
10:44 the dog is just purely fixated lul. He could tell when it was about to be thrown within like 1 frame of the guy starting to turn around.
Man you have the chilliest channel. Getting an Aussie really soon and really appreciate your videos.
Really enjoyed watching all your videos with Frankie. You two are such a great match! And you are an amazing Aussie dad.
You are so kind
I love this. My Aussie remi loves watching while I’m working
What a wonderful creature
Beautiful video! My dog is a collie lab mix and I have to work him out too.
@@laurawallbank I love playing with mine too. He’s a year old and giving him mental stimulation seems to
Help a lot
@@SamtheSWE what do you do with him? My dog (Tessa) is somewhat food motivated but doesn’t really follow a lure. She’s the same way with toys, maybe if she really likes the toy then she’ll follow it a little bit but her attention span is super short lol
@@laurawallbank Obedience training, agility, frisbee, puzzle toys and games, hide and seek, and impulse control
Love this!
Lovely & Happy viewing. Thanks.
Sunday's are great when there's a new Frankie video!
I'm getting my Aussiedoodle Luna on Sunday. Can't wait!
I've learned that the best way to waste all your dog's energy is: let them play with another dog!
Facts! Or swim
@@FrankieToTheMoon Yes, they are amazing swimmers once they overcome their fear!
What a gorgeous dog
Pretty pup!! We have two aussie pups, and I am doing lots of videos as well!
We just purchased a beautiful little baby boy we absolutely love them. His name is diesel. Thanks for your video. It was a wonderful.
2 long walks a day, frizbee in the yard, zoomies in the evening chasing the ball, sitting out front watching squirrels, after work chill listening to nieghborhood at patio table, visit to friends house, trip to Rural king....all in a day
you are so lucky it has been my dream to have the type of dog i am saving up to do what you do..
Its so nice to see some one that in CONNECTED mentally to their 4 legged furbaby .
I love your calm submissive discipline.
What a great relationship and video
I love all the songs can u possibly give me title and artist ?
Ty
P.s You guys are worth subscribing too !
David’s Tea. You must be Canadian like me. David’s Tea is definitely a Canadian company(this is only the second video of yours that I’ve seen). Except I live in the Rockies. I used to live in Pembroke at one time but I prefer the west. He’s board. He’s like my dogs, he needs to go out and do something every day.
We live in Ottawa 🇨🇦
My girlfriend has a mini red merle named Henry who will be 2 next month and I could not stop laughing at his behavior around 4 minutes. Especially when he put his paw on you. Henry does that same thing all the time. Such great dogs! Hope you guys are doing well. Great video.
could you do a video of how you taught him his fun tricks like through and go around etc?
For sure! I plan on doing that when we are out of lockdown
where is Indy? i don't see her much
Indie is his girlfriend's dog. They don't live together so she's not there all the time :)
@@N13L2 yeah but his girlfriend was at the park with him, why wouldn't she bring her dog along?
Frankie is awesome
Mentions Canada weather on frisbees, oh nice I'm in Canada...
Mentions Bruce pit, HAH, I'm in Ottawa. Hopefully I'll see you around.
We just bought a 3:1 Aussie:border collie 12 weeks.
Fantastic video! Well done . You are very inspiring and are helping lots of people and their dogs. Good on you and keep those videos coming.
soooo insightful
At when I thought it was seven min and it kept going I was like yessssssssss
Do we like the longer videos?
@@FrankieToTheMoon omg yes more Frank’s everybody happy
He's just happy enough to play Frisbee with you too
This is the first video I saw of you guys, and I enjoyed it thoroughly! Frankie is AWESOME, and I wanna see more. Thank you!
Definitely subscribed. Thanks for all of the advice. You are definitely helping me out with my decision on getting an Australian Shepherd.
Another well done video! Wondering who the singer is in the early part of the video. Awesome!!
Cute video and a dream dog. I really like Aussies and Boarder Collies they are like lil hairy humans with adhd. Hehe ♥️
Ik this is off topic took my aussie kobe and my shi tzu bear to the groomer and they mixed up the names and shaved kobe and i actually broke down in tears😭 They’ve been to that groomer many times but someone new was there but his fur looks to be growing back normal. Anyways back on topic mine only needs 60 mins a day thank god i have a park across my street and a safe neighborhood.
😩😩😩😩
Awesome pups!
I can't believe I found this channel, I love your tik toks Joey
My mini aussie wants nothing more than to curl up and sleep in a comfy bed all day. He may be a little strange lol.
Cutest family ever
Aw thank you
@@FrankieToTheMoon yw
My pittie mix gets really annoyed and mouthy when not exercised, his bare minimum is a 2 mile walk with some fetch in. I would love to do frisbee because throwing the kong hurts eventually. Beautiful pup.
The effort you guys put in is like woah baby! Music added was well done.
Even the dogs embarrassed he called it a soccer field
Have you put out a video of where you learned to train Frankie. I am getting a three year old dog/ Labradoodle soon and I would like to train her in a respectful & kind way.
Great video! What a lovable dog Frankie is!👍🐶🌙
I mean every single video somewhat demonstrates how I taught him things and the reason I do. I haven't made many how-to's
My dog trainer told me that you need to let your dog choose their training reward, maybe use the ball obsession to your advantage?
frankie styling and profiling love the moves with the leg thing lol thank you for sharing always look forward to seeing you guys
Need to know how to get them to chase and return a frisbee. I love frisbee’s and it would be a fun activity with my girl when she’s old enough.
I have a one year old
Aussie doodle and I feel so terrible! So selfish when I got him since I work 8 to 4 what was I thinking but I love him so much
Beautiful dog!
Thank you very much!
This is so beautiful. Canadian forests, bluegrass, and an amazing relationship.
Am about too get one am soo happy
Idk wat to comment but nice video!
Thanks!
"I'm just trying to eat" *arm pap "am i a joke to you"*
I totally understand any anxiety you may experiencing. I have a 7 month mini Aussie……😳😳😳😳😳😳😬🎉
Frankie is so pretty it reminds me of a sander sides thing I don't remember the thing but it was something with the " And The guy that was walking him was okay"
Its just Frankie is so pretty everyone near him is just average idk
ahahah awww
Aussies are the bestiest. And to be honest they get a bad reputation for being unmanageable but in my experience it is almost the opposite, they are so smart that as long as you are calm and consistent and don;e let them trick you they are incredibly easy to manage....
I have had no issues managing Frankie but with that being said, I work from home with flexible hours soo
Too the moon you say? Frankie is a true hodler 🚀🌝
Ammmazing!! Love Franky ♥️ I have an aussiedoodle. How do I teach him to go between my legs when I walk? He kind of does it a little (on his own) but obviously not the way Franky does it but he does stay behind me and likes to be very close to my legs when we walk.
Soooo helpful bro! I just acquired a 4 year old. Blown away by his intelligence but really worried that I'm not stimulating him enough. Dang.
Great video Aussies are amazing
It's still a lot of snow here. With here, I mean Norway
just found your channel, my pup's name is also Frankie! :)
Oh wowza! Nice video
Those puppy protein pancakes looked gooood 😋
I think that probably means I should get some food 🙃
The bark run away is adorable!
I resonate with this way too much lol

best of luck! have fun :)
Frankie is my goal for my own aussie
Same here!
Wow he fetches good and brings it right to your feet dang
