- Jack White is always taking something that worked in the past and juxtaposing it with something he’s never done before to create something significantly different.

Rock isn't really a kingdom anymore. I think a few revolutions happened, now it's a collection of city states. Probably. Sort of.
Makes sense
I like that.
Could you elaborate? I’m honestly curious what you mean.
Far better then being mainstream actually. Peasants have shitty taste in music, we the royalties have superior character.

🤢🤢🤮🤮
Jack White is the best rock artist since 2000. His sound is so unique, his talents are fantastic, and his songs are incredible. He's branched out to so many styles of rock (southern, blues, alternative, experimental)
Are we talking bands or solo musicians
@@dry_cereal_4283 Both, he's the best
@@NeverSaySandwich1 I guess you've never heard Yeezus...
@@dry_cereal_4283 Yeezus is not rock
@@Caiser pretty sure it is
My god the Black Keys are taking a beating in this
Looking back, I was kind of hard on them. I adore their work and even Turn Blue was special to me, but lately it just seems they’ve been phoning it in. Maybe they’ve deserved it after their long run.
Delta Krem was… something and I understand that sentiment with ‘Wild Child’ but ‘Let’s Rock’ is still pretty great! It’s definitely nothing new but I think ‘Let’s Rock’ shows that they can do what they do really well! Love ‘Under The Gun’
@@Middle8 I’d love for you to do a video on them, if upon revisiting their work nothing changes then I’d still like to see a video on what you think could be improved on or where their future is taking them :) Dan is doing some cool production stuff and I’d love for Aaron Frazer to get more attention haha
I dunno, even if tecnichally I agree to what’s been said in the video, but I consider them to be another illustration of “protecting the kingdom” concept but with a different approach. ‘cause you can’t argue (safe to say it that way i guess) - their stuff is really able to get you in a certain mood that will eventually lead you to diggin it, like, heavily loool.
Even if on the first sight it’s nothing special or exeptional to records like “Let’s Rock”, it is still a pretty solid musical experience from top to bottom that I happened to have the need for in my life, and I doubt that anything other would have fit in those moments if the record hasn’t been released. That moments would end up getting no soundtrack for them - that’s it.
The only LP that I kinda consider to be let’s say “less significant” by any means is Delta Kream stuff, but as far as I could get, the band members themsevles didn’t consider it to become anything more than just a collection of cover songs, so I guess it’s not a record that should be considered a full-scale Black Keys album.
Other than this one - every other album was just great, I guess. Turn Blue of course - being a top-1 in creative and experimental approcach. No need to say anything about Brothers, Attack & Release, El Camino - all pure killers (sorry, Jerry Lee lol)
I thought they needed to be beaten a lot harder.
I just want a Blues Album from Jack. His last few projects have been super experimental. 300mph torrential outpour blues was a masterpiece, and I fought Piranhas is one of my favorites of all time.
answer: yes. When you hear something new from Jack White, you know it's Jack White. He has an ever changing, and yet distinct sound. Much like Prince before him
they may be controversial but I think Jack White should collab with Jack Black. They could be called Jack Gray.
Thanks Jack
They already did! ua-cam.com/video/sOace4JpbwI/v-deo.html&ab_channel=JablinskiGames
I think he was the producer of the latest album of Tenacious D

I just like how the manic energy on this album never really subsides. It’s entertaining the whole way through.
Homme and White along with Grohl have collaborated together in the past and it was magical
When?
@@barnabyjones1627 early 2000s check qotsa archives or grohls archive it was them just messing around hanging out
Well he's one of my favorites musicians of all time, so arguably Yes.
I like the consistency of The Black Keys (at least compared to Jack White) when Lets Rock came out it was like they never went on hiatus. They're like the rock version of comfort food.
As a huge Black Keys fan, Imma use "rock version of comfort food" when describing them from now on.
Although I prefer the white stripes releases, I think he brought his absolute essence to this project. It is a pretty good record, with many qualities that come with Jack's personality. Amazing video as always and awesome recommendation!
somehow Dan is still under the radar even with the arcs and solo releases as well as running easy eye sound studio. the new black keys record is gonna be fun.
I love this album. All songs are bangers! Album of the year!
I really love Jack White not only as a musician but also as a human being. I’m so grateful for what he has done for music and vinyl specifically.
Everything everything AND Jack White vid within a month of each other? Nice!
I'm not the biggest fan of Jack's newer material, but he does so much to promote the creation of organic rock and roll that I think he deserves a lot of recognition. He owns his own record studio, label, and even his own vinyl pressing factory! Check out his recent video aimed at the big record companies. He cares just as much about keeping good music alive and creating opportunities for other artists as he does about making his own music
Rock no longer requires a king. The internet and and the influence of punk culture in the last few years have decentralized it. There’s still a ton of good new rock bands coming out and most moderately sized cities have at least some local bands but there’s not a king anymore and that’s how it should be in my opinion
The decentralization of rock and it losing some of its mainstream popularity is one of the best things to ever happen to the genre. It bred a lot of experimentation and diversity in the genre and subgenres.
@@yeastofthoughtsmind9623 exactly, you wouldn’t have black midi if it weren’t for the death of mainstream rock music
Dude your channel is awesome.... so much insights...... well done
i think Alex Turner is a good shout for king diverse discography, universally respected, managed to break america and more
Even if I don’t like everything Jack white does I damn sure appreciate it.
I saw his Supply Chains/Fear The Dawn Tour and it was amazing. The crowd was hyped, especially when his most iconic songs started playing. It was a mix of his recent album, some iconic classics from his The White Stripes or The Raconteurs albums, and some new songs that are from his upcoming release. Fun fact, the technology part was also a factor added to the concert since we were told that it was a cellphone free event and that our phones should be put in a pouch. Despite this, there was a huge use of illusions and tech used to give the stage a certain look. The lighting made him and everyone else in stage look pale like in the "Taking Me Back" and "Fear of the Dawn" music videos with the only thing in color being blue or gray (which included his jacket and hair). The lighting and look was on purpose since the band that performed before he did was more like that of a normal concert. And oh boy, his guitar rifts live sound so good, it was fucking fire.
Love that your new upload schedule gives me an old/new band/artist to deep dive into every week :) Now I just need a 'Jack White: Essentials' playlist
how about julien casablancas?
I’m down in Australia. I so want to see him live. Come back down under jack!
Jack white has always been one of my favorite artists since I was a teenager. It's because he's different and he experiments and I've always thought he was one of the best musicians out there because of that fact.
I’m still waiting on that Black Keys vs Jack White video that I was promised! That video came out 3 Keys albums ago!
Thanks man, you've inspired me to work my way through a Jack White discography deep dive. I imagine this is going to take me a couple weeks of commutes...
"Consolers of the lonely" is a masterpiece, every song is golden.
I love Boarding House Reach. It's my favorite thing Jack's ever released since his work on WS and The Raconteurs. Fear of The Dawn, to me, is already one of the best albums of the 2020's so far. I love how much Jack has evolved!
Jack White is another one of my enormous rock hero's. And this album it's another completly masterpiece of him.
FOTD: Best rock album since QOTSA’s Songs for the Deaf. Jack embraces digital recording, proceeds to leave everyone else eating his dust.
Boarding House Reach is a masterpiece, super underrated.
You're still one of my absolute FAVORITE channels on this site. Just wanted to remind ya, Frank!
I remember seeing Jack White and his band live on tour right after Fear of the Dawn came out... I had to splurge on it because I think record is amazing and then seeing it live was like icing on the cake. It made me realize that White Stripes ending was probably the best thing that could have ever happened to Jack and it has allowed him to step out from that role and really become a great artist in his own right. And that's not to say he doesn't still perform White Stripes songs... they sound great with a full band and anyone who tells you otherwise is crazy. And also the black keys STINK! Thank you and good night.
I went to Third Man in Nashville, and it is so much more than what you described. They have everything there. I would recommend taking the tour of the whole place if you ever make it over to Nashville. It's definitely worth it.
I'm with you on that, no skips for me. Love the album!
One of my favourite Middle 8 episodes! Killed it!
saw him in montreal, and my face is still in a state of melt
Great effort and some valid points, have a great day!
Had my first listen yesterday and loved it. FOTD gave off (for me anyway) the same eerie vibe as an old cartoon, something like Betty Boop running through a cemetery of skeletons/ghosts/ghouls all dancing to jazz..an anything can or will happen thing.
Great video as usual. Every Jack White related video has been pretty great. I'd really like to see you cover Thee Oh Sees at some point though.
Dying at needle nerd guy. I just discovered your videos and I’m loving it so far. Great work!
Another good recommendation, thank you!
Fear the dawn and entering heaven alive are easily my top favorites from him so far even taking the white stripes into account
Excellent work!!
I would love to see an updated King Gizzard video, it’s amazing how much has come out since your video back in 2017
"that needle nerd guy" 😂😂😂
Never saw one of your videos before, but I mirror your perspective. Will watch more!
Back in 2009 I was walking about who our generation's undeniable music legends would be with some people, and we landed on Jay Z and Jack White as a couple of potentials. 13 year's out from that talk they've maintained presence and respect the way many of their contemporaries haven't. Not saying it's massively prescient given their level of stardom, but it's definitely cool to watch it play out this way.
Love it all!
Middle 8 has the best music topics. What's even better is that he backs his statements/questions up perfectly with how he explains it whether you agree or not you can at least respect him.
9:01 "that needle nerd guy" What a great title to Anthony Fantano.
Great video dude, love your aesthetics.
These guys you mention as the kings, they should get togheter and do something, an album, a jam, one feat in each other songs. I don't know, but when you talked about then that sounded right you know?
You may be right, but Josh is really good with going with the flow. I think he is very good
I don’t know, but if so I am NOT a-posed to his rule.
Jack White kicked me in my chest and I loved it. Love this record!
Omg I love your voice 😍
I am lucky enough to say that I have seen three of the four Jack White incarnations: The White Stripes, The Dead Weather & as a solo artist....every show was brilliant!! Would love to see him tour with Dead Weather and the Raconteurs, as well as his solo material!! I've also visited Third Man Records in Detroit....he's truly a Rock n' Roll Impresario!!
His song he made for call of duty vanguard “taking me back” just so perfectly captures all of ww2s crazy bombastic firefights into a song and I love it so much.
Hey, thx for video, really enjoyed it. Jack being a board member of the Library of Congress' National Recording Preservation Foundation also a worthy inclusion :)
Seeing him tonight!!
love this newest album of his
Have you heard Jack White playing the national anthem in for the Detroit Tigers? That is the single best melody that I have ever seen playing in a guitar, and he did it (seems like the people did not noticed)
And then that night he got engaged and then married about 20 minutes later on stage at the Masonic for his first show of this tour (on the day his new record released). I was at the show, it rocked of course. Hell of a day, right?
Man I love your videos. Can you share your Spotify profile? I’d love to see your playlists and discover new music!

My first listen through, I liked it, but then on my second listen through, I LOVED it.
The Jack White/ Elvis comparison is hilarious if you've seen the movie Walk Hard
Jack White is the one rock artists I turn back to when it comes to revisiting past music tastes. That’s why I think he should be the king and his playing has influenced mine too because of it’s expression.
I just realized Fear of the Dawn was released on my birthday.
Please a twin fantasy or any car seat headrest album video
someone who likes both LCD Soundsystem and Jack White earns my respect, so hell yeah good taste
Jack makes you feel like you're in a 1850's saloon

jack white is just awesome and his music - All of his music - is just amazing, also love josh homme
you need to check out The Nude Party, amazing throwback sound with modern twists
Dude yeah Jack White is even like 10 times cooler than I realized so in my world the throne is his because holy shit, who else played their vinyl in space
Lost touch with Jack's music since the end of the White Stripes. How much of that is very good became clear when I saw him live last week. Therefore, gotta thank this video for filling in the gaps for me to investigate further.
YES! Someone who recognizes how awesome "Another Way To Die" is!
As someone with every White Stripes, Raconteurs, and Dead Weather album etched into my skull, and, in some cases, sketched in permanent ink forever on my skin, I'm always the first to stand up for all of those bands in any room. Jack's solo stuff has been interesting, but missing some magic. I haven't listened to fear of dawn yet, but I've continued to make choices on future listenings based on if you, Frank, put your face into a video or not. A talking head video from Frank, imo, indicates an even higher level off passion and suggestion of enjoyability and well I've come to trust your judgement.
I _love_ White Stripes, Dead Weather, Raconteurs, etc... I've felt the same as you about his solo music. This may be his best overall, definitely since his first solo album.
Hey this is great video! Can I ask what instances you are referring to when you said Josh Home at times hasn't been the greatest human being? I'm a Queens of the Stone Age fan and I'm aware he did a couple things here and there like kicking a photographer. Anything else in particular? Just curious
Well there were nasty rumors out there with regards to his divorce from Brody Dalle. Domestic violence and what not. Definitely wasn't a smooth separation. Also, motherfucker nearly died on us during a knee surgery almost a decade ago but he made up for it by releasing their best ever record LC.
His children recently filed a restraining order against him for physical and emotional abuse
He's currently amidst a very messy divorce with Brody Dalle, and it's a very ugly conflict of nasty addicts who shouldn't be near one another, their kids are also suffering as a result of their spats
@@Middle8 holy shit I had no idea. Thanks for the info
"Accidentally" kicking the reporter is some way of putting it. It looked pretty intentional to me.
He rocks for sure
It's not just a "limited edition" of the Lazaretto LP that has all of those special features. Even the standard black vinyl has those things.
5:08 JUSTICE FOR 'ANOTHER WAY TO DIE'!
Love Jack but I am a diehard queens fan
Nothing compares for me personally
Having said that, Jack is prolific and the moment I became obsessed with the white stripes is the moment I became obsessed with music in general so he holds an incredibly special place in my heart

I’d love to see if there WAS actually any difference between the male and female backing bands. Sounds like an interesting experiment

Just for clarity, The electronics are the guitars through a modulation pedal.
You make good points here, if rock must have a King Jack White is surely in close contention. I'd still give it to Homme on preference, but ouch, I had not looked into what was happening with him personally lately, that's really sad.
