    About the school fee donation - it is treated as a charitable donation. You can claim back 33% in tax rebate (no maximum).
    Pay $100 you will get $33 straight back from the government in you apply. Any school "fee" to an educational school under the department of education qualifies - go to www.ird.govt.nz and look

    You are so lucky to move to NZ. We have been down there twice in 2000 & 2006. We were on an antique car tours both times. Traveled all over both islands. The people were so friendly.

      Thanks! We are in Auckland now! :-) We had been waiting for visas for a bit through a couple of delays and knew we'd go as soon as they came. We arrived on 1 Mar. We'll be here until Monday and then head down to Dunedin to settle down. Thanks for the invite. I'll join the group.

    how is the infrastructure and quality of roads
    I live in the Netherlands and it's an very devolped infrastructure. lots of bus and train connections and six lane highways, if there's a crack/hole in the road it gets repaird within 1 day

    • @AThousandWords
      @AThousandWords  7 років тому +1

      They're basic but in good repair, in my experience. There is not a nationwide train or bus network, although there are limited services, depending on the area.

    • @miyounova
      @miyounova 5 років тому

      From what Europeans (not British or Irish) who have lived there told me, roads aren't great and public transport is pretty shit. They all lived in cities in Europe, so I'm sure people in the country side would think buses and all that are great in NZ! A Dutch guy had lived in NZ for a few years before coming back to Europe and said that basically, NZ is Europe 80 years ago. But, everyone seemed to agree than the country was beautiful and people really nice! I've been asking around and binge watching UA-cam videos cause I'm going to NZ soon :)

    Thanks for all info Jen! Very very helpful. My family and I ( myself, hubby and two daughters 6yo and 2yo) are seriously thinking about moving to New Zealand and we are also going for the points to get the residence visa. If I understood it right first we get the temporary residence and after two years we can apply for the permanent one. Do you know if All the information about health, appointment with doctor and dentist are only for the people who has the permanent residency or temporary residency would apply also. Thank you

    hi there...I've been watching some of your videos and I must thank you, they have been very informative.. I have one question. if I want to bring my 2 dogs and my parrot with me to live in nz, how would I do that? or what is the best option regarding that?

    • @AThousandWords
      @AThousandWords  7 років тому

      We didn't bring any pets so I'm sorry, I don't have any experience or advice. All I know is it will be very expensive and I believe they will be in quarantine for a while before they can come and live with you.

    • @Luubelaar
      @Luubelaar 7 років тому +1

      I can sort of answer this one. It will depend on a number of things as to how much it will cost and it will also depend on the breed of dogs as some breeds (such as the American pit bull) are not allowed into New Zealand. A little while ago a friend of my family moved to the UK from Sydney, Australia and took with them their 2 dogs (Lhasa Apso). They used the company JetPets and were VERY happy with the service. When we started looking into how much a move from Sydney, Australia to Wellington, NZ would cost, I made a general enquiry with JetPets as we have 3 cats who would be making the move with us. All up, it is going to cost roughly one thousand dollars per cat (yes, that's $1k AUD), so $3k all up. BUT Australia and NZ have similar quarrantine and pet vaccination laws so we get a "free pass" (so to speak) in that our pets wouldn't need to stay in quarrantine on arrival. However, if your pets are coming from anywhere else, they will need a stay in quarrantine (There are LOTS of diseases that Aust and NZ don't have, and we'd like to keep it that way. Eg: no rabies in either country). JetPets will take care of almost everything as far as paperwork is concerned, we just need to organise the pre-travel vet checks.
      Honestly, find a few pet travel companies and get some general enquiry quotes.
      Here is the NZ government page regarding bringing pets into NZ. It's pretty helpful. Good luck.

    Hi, I have a question concerning to the "evidence of partnership":
    On the official site is written:
    www.immigration.govt.nz/documents/forms-and-guides/inz1105.pdf
    You need to supply evidence of a genuine and stable partnership of at least 12 months with your
    partner. You could show evidence of this by supplying the following.
    • Marriage or civil union certificate.
    • Proof of shared residence (a joint mortgage, or tenancy agreements, or rent book).
    • Financial dependence or interdependence (proof of shared income, or bank accounts, or accounts
    that show money transfers to or from your account to your partner’s account).
    • Birth certificates of your children.
    • Any evidence of public or family recognition of your relationship.
    • Correspondence (including post-marked envelopes) to you and your partner at the same address.
    • Photographs of you and your partner together.
    • Evidence of the duration of your relationship.
    • Evidence of the support of your parent(s) or guardian(s) if either of you are aged 16 or 17 years old
    Do I need to supply ALL of these documents? It sounds ridiculous to ask for letters from friends for a couple who lives together for 10 years, has Marriage certificate and shared children. How does it work?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there. I wanted to chime in and let anyone who is interested about gaining employment as a teacher in NZ. My husband and I are from the US and we are working with Education Personnel Ltd (edperson.co.nz/) and they work directly with the Ministry of Education to help vet and connect teachers with schools, while also helping the teachers with the application processes involved in gaining employment and visas. The staff has been most helpful in sorting out the many details. Hopefully this information helps.

Does the country welcome my breed? I would like to be a police officer like your husband to protect a country worthy of protecting. You quote, "Woman don't have full equality in NZ", ... WHAT! Are you kidding me ! There is total equality in NZ. The Human Rights Act protects everyone in New Zealand from discrimination on the grounds of...
    > Age, gender or sexual orientation
    > Marital or relationship status
    > Having a family or not
    > Being in a relationship with or related to a certain person
    > Religious or ethical beliefs

      yeeeeeah that not quite what i meant was more of a humor thing than a immigration policy i more of like when you have a nice quite cafe that's really nice an then suddenly everyone finds out about it and then the developers move in and the real estate prices sky rocket and in the end you wish you had kept your mouth shut but such is progress not so much of a "keep out foreigners" more a "ok ok ok so you found out but just don't tell anyone else kay"...something that the nz tourism board ISN'T helping with..
