    Great explanation guys.
But this brings me back to the dispute I had with you about twin and earth . It’s always been called twin and earth and always will be . But trying to be clever you sent me a link of a video of the toffee nose boffin from martingale and some boffin from the IET who both said it is called PVC TWIN AND CPC . In this video Joe clearly said it definitely not a bulb it’s a lamp yet just like TW&E the packaging labels them as bulbs . I am therefore more inclined to listen to the manufacturers. But yes I have always called them lamps . Bulbs grow lamps glow

Great video, helped me get my head around something I was struggling with on my first week at college. Anything else on intermediate switches coming up?

Check out John Wards playlist on switches on UA-cam here. One way, intermediate and two way switches. He explains it better than anyone can.

Hi Gaz and Joe, really good video, thank you. Do you terminate or loop the earth in the batten lamp holder or in a separate blue point or insulated connector and just leave this curled up inside the batten?

Hi there great video. As I understand it’s important to get the polarity correct at the ceiling rose reg the flex to the lamp holder ie line and neutral flex in the outer terminals but after this the bulb holder has no polarity and it doesn’t matter. What does it mean then “ for Edinson screw lamp holders the line conductor must be connected to the centre contact of the lamp holder? I’m an older man in his 50s with a great passion for learning electrics but can’t work out what is meant by this line in my study notes on lighting. Does this just mean make sure your line and neutral are correctly wired in the right terminals at the ceiling rose?

If the glass thing in your hand is a lamp, what do you call the thing that’s sitting on a table that you put the lamp in?

I done a periodic test / eicr and fancy lights in ceiling hanging down with es lamps wired the switch live and neutral wrong way round . Shocking to say the least 😞

Don’t you love it when hacks parade around as tradespeople: Electrician, plumber, HVAC, auto repairs. Ended up too often being disappointed n disgusted I started educating myself. I ended up getting my own contractor’s license I had started doing so much repairs & maintenance work. Pfft to hacks.

I wish we had this level of information in Australia for Electrical installation. We are not allowed to do any electrical work unless you are a qualified electrician in Australia. I think this makes it more dangerous here in Australia because I think ignorance is not bliss, people who do not understand electricity will likely do things that are more dangerous to save money. We do not have battens like you guys have in the UK.
