Summer, you can do anything you set your heart to do. You are so creative and brave to tackle jobs such as that texturing. It would be daunting for others much older than you. Thank you for demonstrating how easy that job can be. Well done.I love watching your vlog to see you put your creativity into action. Best wishes.
For site prep, run a line of 3/4 tape up next to the wall on the floor, and use craft paper instead of plastic, taping it to the tape line, and then each piece to the next... A little more money, but SO much nicer to work on... in bare feet ;P And a wet sponge at the right time will smooth things out without a full knockdown or skip trowel look, without sanding. Looks great.
The wall by the bar ,maybe have cody custom frames and do a beautiful display of your wedding pics ,or pic one picture you love of just you 2 and blow it way up...and add maybe 2 smaller ones ,one on each side..or open shelving on that wall would be beautiful..
Cody doesn't let you sit in your fears... great support
Great job on the wall texture Summer!!!
My wife is an interior designer. She says put shelves above the bar instead of cabinets. You achieve functionality and maintain a beautiful transitional feature between kitchen and the living room.
Good idea!
I'd crush my egg shells into a powder and add dried coffee grounds to it. And use it around my rose bushes, 1st yr not much will change, 2nd yr, look out massive blooms and grows twice as big from previous yr.
You were saying that you were unsure of what you wanted to do behind the Fireplace I personally think some kind of stone, not necessarily the length of the wall, just maybe three or four foot wide with the fireplace being in the center. I personally think that would look good with shiplap on either side of it
Loved catching a glimpse of your little UT Longhorn ornament! Hook ‘em! 😊
You want the eggs standing up with pointy end down, when water glossing. Also you can take a dry rag and whip the dirty ones.
Hated the sound of it until you started putting it on. It looks great. Breakfast looks good too. You guys are awesome ❤
I am a retired Artistic contractor we used sheet rock Mudd with one tube of caulk pet gallon of Sheetrock mud for durability .we also used the Sheetrock mudding knife in one hand like a 12 inch knife and used it as shield as we stamped whatever medium onto the wall. I have over 25000 photos of my old 1990s work in million dollar homes in Tn if you want some ideas ...great job enjoying seeing you kids have fun being creative. I'm.Doc....
Seeetie I think you do an amazing job at you’re texturing and explaining things. I admire you both for always being willing to try new things. In the end you’ll be so proud because you did it yourself. That little machine has nothing over you girl❤️❤️❤️
Good morning how are you guys doing today hope you guys have a great morning I like what you doing keep up the good work it's a little different but take it easy
You can put a 2-inch masking tape on those cabinets around the edges before you stomp and all you have to do when you're through is pull the tape off wait till it's completely dry and run some fine paper sandpaper over it just to knock out all the Peaks
I wanted to share some helpful advice that I learned regarding your egg shells. I found that if you bake them in the oven it will kill any bacteria like salmonella. Then grind them it also cuts down on the awful smell .
Just wanna say I love how it’s coming together! You guys are EGG-stra special! ❤
Hi there I’m a new subscriber from The Outer Banks of North Carolina! I thoroughly enjoy your channel. Keep up the excellent work.
gosh its very nearly that time of year again - just want to take the opportunity to wish everyone an amazing festive season
personally i'm not big on textured walls and ceilings, although i did use in my kitchen as the walls are pretty uneven, but this can be so much work in the future if you ever want to change your mind - but hey Summer, great job, you made it look way easier than when i tried it
wow - you got some eggs there, maybe start hatching some and sell the chicks, sure the dogs will be happy with an egg or two cracked over their dinner, that's what we used to do when i was a kid, my old Boxer Patch loved a raw egg, his eyes would glaze over, but he did that with Yogurt too, and cheese, oh and Marmite
Summer love the textured walls, Cody breakfast looked yummy 😋
Just an observation from an elder (68) woman. The new style of ship lapping everything and texturizing the walls, but not the ceiling is interesting. When I was younger, the ship lapping was considered "old style", and we avoided it because it looked like a cabin. Style changes and tends to come back on itself. Also, all that texture on the walls will really make it collect dust and dirt and will be impossible to clean.
I can’t understand why you do not have a 100,000 subs.
You guys are innovative, hard working and deal with things in a real life.
Have you ever tried to pickle eggs? Use the same procedure you would for pickled beets.
I’ll bet you could use a freeze dryer. Keep up the good works.
So many eggs 🥚 those are cool egg holders!
Summer, I LOVE the texture that you’re doing on the wall! You said something about not knowing what you were doing, but since you did on your other house, then you are an expert! Don’t let the nasty crabby people make you doubt yourself. Do things the you and Cody like - the people that don’t like it can just eat rocks! Love the videos!
My family had a commercial egg farm. You should wash eggs with warm soap and water before using them to prevent ecoli contamination. Rinse them with clean water and then let air dry.
Only thing I might suggest is starting waterglassing a lil earlier. Your only about 5 hrs from me and ours have already slowed down. We start Oct 1 but I guess it depends on how many eggs you eat. Hope it helps and as always great job guys.
Great job you do summer. It’s look fantastic ❤❤
My parents had this done in our old house but only on the ceiling… excellent job Summer , you guys are killing it … awesome vids…much love
from Ontario Canada ❤️❤️❤️❤️…ps you should sell your eggs # side hustle 🤣🤣
Nice job Summer. Your home is looking wonderful.
Eggshells in the compost in the winter will break down by the summer for nutrients as well
When you filmed closer to the wall it looked great but do understand why you want to take off the tops. Gosh you sure don't have a shortage of eggs. Those are some good girls. Missed seeing the lovely ducks. Before watching y'all I had no interest in ducks but now I do. Hi! Cody. 🎄🍂🦆🦆👍🥰
looking very nice and cozy. hard work paying off.
Nice work 👍👍👍👍 on the drywall
If you sand it use a piece of screen, also you can paint the wall one color and color the mud a different color
Great job on the walls
Texturing is so cool! It adds so much interest. One wall at a time!
Like what you’ve got going with eggs, waste not, want not!!
I agree. I hope it really adds some character to the house!
I can't believe what a difference the flooring has made to the whole look!!
So for your eggshell grinding machine use a permanent marker, fingernail polish. . .to mark a + or - to indicate on/off. When I was a child we used a centrifuge to separate cream from milk and the switch didn't have markings so I was afraid to plug it in, I used a scribe to mark an X to identify on. Thank you for the video.
Hi guys it's all looking good 👍are yous spending your first Christmas as Mr and Mrs at your place bless
Looks fantastic and so affordable too
I like the texture that you doing-it looks so good 👍❤
I use to base coat my walls then used sponges w different colors on the walls to give it a textured look without using mud. Looks great. ❤
Do the shiplap on the outside walls I love it and it is also more insulation. I heat with wood stove also
I watched Simple Living Alaska just throw their egg shells on the ground for the chickens so I tried it. They goble them right up.
There is another UA-camr believe her channel is Elysia English and in an older video she did create ship lap with 1/4 inch Luan she ripped to 8-10 inches and after it was painted it looked like the real thing. Just a thought you could consider at a much reduced price than the real boards? Love the channel!
one thing I do when I get a lot of eggs is take freeze bags and 2 eggs to small freezer bags and like 12 into big freezer bags and freeze them then I put them out when I need for baking and cooking
I have to say I like the look of the brushed wall!
I think it will look marvellous ❤️ the channel
Sage green excellent choice...
Awesome job ,the texture is gonna look amazing!...with yous having the open concept living/ kitchen combo ,i wouldnt break it up with a green painted wall...if youd like a wall as a focal point i would say the fireplace wall.maybe a combination of shiplap and flat stone tiles. ..or shiplap ,knottypine boards and old barn galvanized steel behind the stove...i love semi gloss eggshell color its not bright white and its not beigey...but no doubt what you and cody decide it will be beautiful..
6:30 pm San Antonio Texas, I love the colors you picked out, go for it 😊
Thank you!!
Summer, the texture looks professional. Very Nice❤
They make blue tape that you can put on the cabinets to keep the mud off of them.
It's interesting how different views are across the world. Here in the UK we're kind of conditioned to really dislike textured walls & ceilings. Its called 'artex' here & its common to pay a plasterer to skim coat it to get it back to smooth or get it removed altogether (a horrible job, ive done it lol). We seem to really prefer a smooth plaster coat here. In the USA & Canada though, ive noticed its really common & popular to add texture to your walls. Funny how different people & trends are x
You can freeze your eggs . My sister does . She bought deep ice cube trays . She has a friend who lives off grid in upper Michigan who told her to freeze them
Having to repair a textured ceiling myself, I went to a local hardware and ran into a contractor and he said to thin the mud slightly using white latex paint. He said when it dried it would be so much harder with the paint in it. As it comes out of the bucket it can be pretty tough to apply and usually will need thinning slightly.
Nice job on the texturing, it looks great!
That wall looks very nice, it will be interesting when completed. I think a dark (not very dark) stone or flax stone behind your heater would look nice. I had no idea you could preserve eggs, so thanks for sharing that knowledge 😀
I absolutely LOVE the textured wall. Really enjoy seeing the fur babies, I need more of that 😂Thanks Cody and Summer for sharing with us🫶🎄🎁
Decorations look so nice. Good job. Merry Christmas
Water glassing can go longer then 18 months. I have seen other Homestead have some for up to 3 years with no problems
You did a great job on the texturing. Swivel pad on a pole will knock down the peaks with little effort. Thanks for the video!
Another use for eggs shells after broken is freeze them to add for making bone broth‼️
Excellent job on the texturing
Another look-creative by you‼️ Always a pleasure to watch the two of you. For me your best point of interest is the pond…then the joy of animals and gardening inbetween‼️⭐️
Great job 👍 I might try that
Just a suggestion. On the right side of your kitchen window, it would look great with a couple of open shelves instead of a cabinet. When you are trying to crush the eggs shells to get ready for the grinding machine, use your rolling pin to crush them up in the bag, it works great and is quick.
I’ve known a lot of couples in my time but I honestly think you guys are the most beautifully matched couple I’ve ever seen, I am rooting for you two so hard! Good luck you guys from little old Yorkshire ❤❤
Summer great job on the wall, can’t wait to see it painted and then it will really stand out! Missed Cody today! Great job both of you!
Thanks so much!!
I've never seen texture applied to a wall like that before. That's pretty cool. As far as the color and framing out the windows, that sounds beautiful. You can never go wrong with shiplap. I'm very excited for you both.
I love the kitchen cabinets decor. I cook my shells 5 mins before crushing so they don't get the taste of raw egg shells. ( So I was told). I water glassed 6 doz eggs last year and was told to place eggs point side down? I'm using those eggs now for them for scrambled eggs with cayenne pepper for the cold winter days.
Oh my your chickens are bringing in a lot of eggs so nice❤👍
Hi Summer, Wow what an amazing amount of eggs. Just a thought... why dont you put a sign at the end of your drive and sell them.
Good job u2! Merry Xmas!
The texture brushes are supposed to be soaked in water so the bristles don’t break
Looks great.😀
Summer you did a great job! You two are so sweet together.
Beautiful
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing
I have the same walls . Looks good
The only bad thing is it's very hard to wipe down .
Merry Christmas 🎄
Merry Christmas! 🎄
Thanks!
Thank you so much 🫶🫶
So excited!!! It’s getting closer and closer to being done. Can’t wait to see the list being checked off. It’s going to be awesome!! 👏🏼
Thank you so much for all of your continued support Robin! We appreciate your kind comments each week 🫶
Unfortunately they won’t ever be “done”.
Love the look on the walls.
You do know you don't have to turn shells into powder. Just crush them and throw to chickens. They can eat them from whole shells.
Nice grinder
Awesome job❤
Looks good.
I think you came up with a mighty fine design, Summer! The super light green will be a nice pop of color to contrast from the floors and ceiling while still being light enough to not make the room appear smaller! Also, I'm a huge shiplap lover so you won't get any negative feedback from me on that! 😅 Personally, I would add floating shelves over the peninsula instead of a cabinet. It'll help keep the open feel. 🤗
I am going to try that texture idea.
You guys are doing great. Experts are annoying.
Everyone is commenting on the walls so no need for me to say they are looking great. I wanted to say excellent on the eggshells. A lot of people will give them back to the girls in pieces and that is never a good idea. They will eat them and get a taste for eggshell, then they go after there own eggs. We do the exact same thing, we use our ninja to make them into dust. Something to consider, I store ours in mason jars; I hate using plastic and the jars can be cleaned vs throwing plastic a way.
God bless your husband...what a wimperer .....oh my goodness..........yes indeed that was real real scary when you turned that thing on...smh..bless you too lil chickster.
He is very blessed indeed🤪
I love the ribbons on your cabinets. I might try that!
Using a sponge with paint the exact same way looks really good my aunt always does her walls like that and just changes colors every few years I have stomped a few ceilings with the oval crows foot but never the walls
Summer, the wall looks really good
Thank you Ross!
Awesome video!! You all are killing it!! Love the way the wall came out!
The food processor was freaking you out so much I half expected to see you take an eggshell shower lol
Looks awesome so far
Cool walls!! ❤️ Great work!!
Hello Summer, I see that you are using the grain mill I’ve sent you in July. I love those mills because you can mill your own flour! The more you use it the less it will scare you. I’m glad you are putting it to some use.@Can’t Contain Us
Petra, We sure have gotten great use of it! Thank you so much again, it’s been quite an efficient tool in the kitchen. Still takes me some getting use to 🤣 it’s super powerful!
That really looks good!!!
