This has been around for a long time. Great weedless presentation to stay tight to vertical cover. With floating plastics , like zman, its now " coming back" Lol the tiny child rig is probably close to thirty! Sheetrock screws were used. Try it around Lily pads!
Dont waste your money on those weights. Just find some screws that fit your worm head and weigh 1-2 grams or whatever you prefer and screw them in. Crazy how they think those 1/16 oz pegs are worth a dollar a piece.
I call it the “bungee jumper rig”. I got a video of it on my channel. I haven’t tried it with smaller plastics like this tho. It’s killer with a lizard on beds or a trick worm 🤙🏼
The problem with this and any Texas rigged ZMan TRD is burying the hook. The hook has to be buried so deep into an Elaztech containing bait that you miss so many fish. The hook point doesn't just pop out like it does with a non elaztech bait and, you can't just stick it into an elaztech bait slightly. It just wont stay in. Just my 2 cents through experience.
I use the the same rig just with a size 1 ewg and haven’t missed not one fish yet with it that way I recently caught 2 largemouth bass with it couple days ago one I felt bite and I set the hook and other I didn’t even feel it bite it and I just reeled into the fish basically tbh might just be your hooks need to be sharper
You mentioned that you use size 2 hooks on the smaller trd and size 2/0 hooks on the bigger trd. Dont you loose allot of fish ? Since the hook gap is small and have to go through alot of plastics?
Yeah, that works well. The Z-Man Neko ShroomZ Wacky Rig Nose Weight came out after this video was filmed. It's specially made for Z-Man plastics (TPE material) and has become our go-to. wired2.fish/ZManNekoShroomZWeight
Wow! Cool and well presented. Described perfectly the technique. Would guess the same gear as a Ned Rig (Medium Light 7' spinning rod, 6'-12' of 6-8# mono or flouralcarbon leader attached to 10# braid....preferably a high visible color such as white). Will play with the technique this evening.
Update: Fished 3 hours this evening on a highly pressured lake. Caught over 15 largemouth bass from my boat. Used the Z-Man Big TRD, Weedless Neko Size 2 and a 3/32 Lunker City Nail Weight. A dab of Super glue on the last part of the nail weight before inserting kept the nail weight from falling out. Would have preferred a Size 1 Hook but did not have one nearby. Chose a medium action rod as the weeds are up. Multiple times the bass would pick the bait up and just start swimming with it. I have learned to use as little weight as possible which results in more success. Of course “Line Watching” is critical which is why I use white braid on almost all my reels. Light wire hooks require soft hook sets....maybe that is partly why they call this the “Child Rig”! Only “complaint” was that the plastic started sliding down the hook as the entry hole through the top of the bait grew larger. Used same Z-Man bait for all fish. Think I will epoxy a small strand of heavy mono like used on some VMC Neko Hooks bear the eye of the hook. I remembered that I saw a video of Mike Iaconelli talking about this setup last year. Be well.
If fishing in laydowns, what size line? It seems finesse but dont want to use too light if you're in wood. But cant go too heavy with the light wire hook.
Good question! I'd bump up to the 2/0 VMC Neko hook because it will hold up to some heavier pressure. It is a fine line you have to toe on that one. 8-10lb straight floro on a spinning combo or braid to floro. Depends on your comfort level. I have fished it on bait casting combos as well. 30lb braid to a 12-15lb floro and you can put some heat on them to dig them out of the woods. You just always have to be mindful of the pressure you're putting on them, it's not a flippin hook. Thanks for the watch! ~Kyle
I'd go with the heaviest tail weight you can find. Neko Shroomz weight 1/6oz is the heaviest Z-Man makes I'd start there. VMC may also make one that is heavier. Otherwise you might be able to find some tungsten options that will fit the bill. ~Kyle
If you are fishing form the bank, this is much less likely to get hung up as the line at the top means it will slide over rocks instead of wedging between them.
When you push the point of the hook in you come in at an angle instead of straight in. You do this with all straight shank hooks. When you have the offset bend thats when you go straight in with the hook point.
Not easy as you mention Mr. T. This is what we did before Z-Man came out with their specially designed ShroomZ wire nail weight (filmed before product hit the market). No problems now, and add a dab of super glue to the weight and hardly loose any terminal tackle. wired2.fish/ZManNekoShroomZWeight
Is it just me or is that the dumbest name for a rig ever, effective for sure but I definitely have to call it something else because it’s embarrassing telling someone I’m fishing with the tiny child rig! 😂
Haha, What's sexy is that dang Neko hook. It gets them so well with little effort. That is one of the most key components to that entire system. Thanks for watching! ~Kyle
@@NFL88 You are right, the bait comes through cover like nothing else and has a different look all together by pulling the bait from the opposite end of the line tie as you would a ned. ~Kyle

Hell ya dude! Been throwing wood/drywall screws in mine for years now 🤣
Awesome!!!! Drywall screws!! Great 👍 idea 💡
Good stuff. I'd never heard of this rig before.
Thanks Fisherman Greg, It was a silly name we came up with for a serious fish catching tactic. Appreciate the comment.
~Kyle
This rig is my go to for finessing big smallmouth 🎣😎🔥
It looks like it would catch little ones but as we know we can't judge a book by its cover ;) Good fishing to you!
~Kyle
Just what I needed....at an affordable price!!

looks great will try this in the spring.
I'll need to try this rig on some Chicago smallmouth. Thanks!
What lake are you catching smallmouth in?
@@oginaz that real BIG one 😉
@@oginaz He fishes Lake Michigan, harbors and open water, around Chicago. He’s got a pretty decent UA-cam channel.

We have the hook almost pushed through so it doesn't take a lot of force to drive home. This is one of the better hooking setups out there.

I'll have to try that.
We guarantee it'll produce. Let us know Carolina Creeks!

For sure gona try it this year 👍
Been around a longtime. Originally called the chicken rig. Or French fry rig.
yup, been using this rig before the TRD came out on senkos and dingers.
When my ned rig hooks get a bit rusty I’ll chop the hook off and it makes the shroom weights.
@Tripp Bryson nobody cares
Just use small screws. I found some that weight just over a gram and fit my trd head perfect
You can also super glue your weight in place.

That rig would be fantastic for fishing beds.
You would be correct!

How does it do in heavy grassed lakes?
What size weight would be recommended

Texas rigged version of a Neko rig
How this rig name-child rig come from? why, where or when? thanks
Great info, just wish it actually showed rigging the hook. Of course I over complicate things lol
Nice Rig - looks like it has all kinds of potential in my own fishing. But what it up with that name ? LOL
in the original video they said its because a tiny child could fish the rig and catch fish or something like that
I remember it being described as the best setup to use to teach small children how to fish for bass.
Yep. So simple even a Tiny Child could catch bass on it.
Wired2Fish what weight shroom head is in the video?
@@chrisclift540 The weight I was using was a 1/15oz
~Kyle
I can’t wait for Steelhead season, it slays them too.
Awesome to hear! If I ever go after them I will be sure to pack some. Thanks for the watch!
~Kyle
Do you think this would work on a 5inch senko?
I was wondering too. I’m going to rig it up and drop it in a bucket of water to see. Since I don’t have an underwater camera and all
Great content! How much weight would you use in 60ft of water?
I'd go with the heaviest tail weight you can find. Neko Shroomz weight 1/6oz is the heaviest Z-Man makes I'd start there. VMC may also make one that is heavier. Otherwise you might be able to find some tungsten options that will fit the bill.

So a Ned rig with less action?
If you are fishing form the bank, this is much less likely to get hung up as the line at the top means it will slide over rocks instead of wedging between them.
Not supposed to have much action anyways it’s a do nothing bait lol move it stop move it stop or slide it stop
Dude down here in the Florida we call that the chicken rig
Isn't this basically a weedless Neko rig? I havent seen it done but that's the thought I have for it
what size hook
work great
what power rod, medium light
what kind and size hook??
Depending on the size soft bait you choose will dictate the hook. I use anything from a 2/0 to a size 2 typically.
Thanks for the watch!
~Kyle
How do you texpose the hook and keep the bait straight on the straight shank hook?
When you push the point of the hook in you come in at an angle instead of straight in. You do this with all straight shank hooks. When you have the offset bend thats when you go straight in with the hook point.
0% chance I can get that nail weight in the Zman TRD

Run the hook in first take it out then run the weight in...
I don’t think I’ll be trying this one. I don’t want another tiny child. Just joking. I’m trying it tomorrow.
