Awesome video Tim !!! We've been throwing the Fluke style baits here on Ft. Loudon since last year at this time and I mean EVER SINCE !!! We haven't stopped lol . We started using the Zman Jerk Shad and the Zman Neko ShroomZ weights . The baits are scented and their weights go through the plastic so much easier . It's been a great presentation to throw right in the middle of a busting school and let it go to the bottom . Some times a schooler hits it on the fall and it'll also get to the bottom pretty quick on the heads of the big lazy girls underneath the school lol ...
I recently won a local tournament throwing a Neko rig after not having a bite all day long. Caught the fish I needed to win in the last hour of the tournament. Definitely working great right now here in East TN!!
This was my 2nd year with the Neko being my go-to! If I can't catch em on that, it's time to go home! My favorite is the PB&J Zman Big TRD with a vmc half moon weight. You do have to heat the nail and add a drop of super glue to get them in, but they stay in great.
Well Done Tim. I'll be damn, I would have never thought I would watch a video on Neko or Ned rigs for that matter. I am a Power Bass Angler of the worst conviction. Got my attention, who knows what might happen when I try this!
Wow!! Great video!! I've learned a lot more about the Neko Rig and the proper way to rig them. I was putting the way to far up the Senko or other baits. Can't wait to give this a try next season. Thanks for those helpful tips!! 👊 Stay Safe & God Bless!!!!
Tim, thanks again for the great tips. I decided to try something new as you recommended. I neko rigged a yamamoto D Shad with a 1/32 oz screw in weight. The bass went crazy and I caught all three of my largest bass this evening on that rig even after throwing several other lures in the same location and the bass were not hitting anything else. Great advice Tim!!!!
Tim, the Neko rigged fluke style bait (in my case Yamamoto D Shads) are money. I have been throwing everything else lately and only the Neko rigged D Shad has consistently produced almost every day this past week 😄. Your tip is simply ingenious 🙏
Can't believe I missed this vide I want to thank Matt Allen and Tim little they are out there in the cold and some brutal weather catching these giant fish the techniques that they give really work this is my first year not even a complete year fishing and I've started catching them
It's in the 40's in Ohio and raining, so very November like. I did manage to find the winter hiding holes for my river smallmouth though. They where biting like it was summer last weekend, except for a slower presentation. That weighted fluke is a good idea. I've seen it done with a jig head, just forgot about it. Plus I like the slower fall of a neko
Like shakeyheads I have two under the radar worms I love for this technique, the Grandebass Airtail and the Gene Larew Tattletail. The tattletail has a very thin tail that has a teeny paddle tail on it that gives a very slight swim. The Airtail as its name implies has an air filled tail that gives a killer kick when twitched on either a shakeyhead or Neko rig.
Tip for losing fewer weights (thanks Matt Stefan): push the weight through the 'neck' of the bait into the back of the head and you can leave the weight internal or push it out the 'mouth' of the bait for better contact and some sound. Either way due to the angle you have to come in at the weight cannot come back out very easily. You can also use the Neko as an upsized hover strolling setup!
Go to Home Depot and get your nail weights for your Neko rig guys! Drywall screws. Use an inch and one quarter myself, save a ton of money, and it works beautifully
Nice vid I started using the gamakatsu g-finesse cover shot neko hooks. Gets rid of using o-rings and completely weedless being it's Texas rig. Paired with a missle baits quiver has been my comfort zone
The big advantage over a shakey head is less prone to get snagged in rocks since the plastic will fold when pulled on and you can usually rip it out unlike a shakey head that wedges in between rocks.
Tim, great video and tips on this presentation. I’ve been fishing this rig for a couple seasons now and have great success. I just got the new expride B 7’2” medium light rod and wanted to know if you think it’s under powered for this presentation? Keep up the great content, love the buyers guide series also! Tight lines and Merry Christmas to you, Matt and your families!!
Tim, thanks as always for another great video. I have been slaying the fish lately on the vision 110 jerk bait, a wacky rigged senlo and a ned rigged Zman Crawz. You guys did teach me to use a neko rig but I haven’t used it lately, so I will put that into the mix again this Nov/Dec. Have you tried the new Yamamoto 5” shad-shaped floater? That would be a killer on this setup.
I love it for a clean up bait for spots in the brush. I would love to hear your thought on the xzone deception worm in the electric shad color. It's been an amazing bait for me.
If you use Z-man worms, try their neko shroomz weight. It works significantly better with elaztech than standard weights. You have to learn how to set it properly to ensure the barbs grab hold though
I think a zman fluke would work really well for a Neko rig. Granted you would have to use the zman Neko weights because it’s Elaztech but it wouldn’t need a o ring.
Everyone sleeps on Z-Man's Bang StickZ for neko rigging. I don't get it.🤷🏼♂️ Bang StickZ have the TicklerZ end with four tentacles. It's thick like the ZinkerZ so it takes a neko weight better than a narrow worm. Also, the thick body has a nice snap when jerked underwater. However, the Bang StickZ is a FLOATING stick worm, unlike the ZinkerZ or other stick worms. With the durable Elaztech you don't need to use any bands, no need for rings and special pliers. I don't think I've ever seen the Bang StickZ featured in ANY UA-cam video; it boggles my mind!🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Great video. Are you ever concerned with hookup percentage on big 5 plus pound bass with the smaller neko sized hooks? I catch a ton of fish with the neko rig but I've noticed that I dont catch as many 5 pound plus bass with it compared to other baits and Im starting to wonder if my size 3/0 trokar weedless wackey hook is not big/wide enough to consistently stick the bigger ones.
What is the difference between a Neko rig and a Shaky Head rig, as far as functionality of the bait? Both are head heavy. I enjoy all of the content, you guys are great!!
Thanks for asking this! Personally I can’t see a difference especially when you start using the shroom-type heads. I’m really digging the super fluke idea. This is the out of the box type of thinking that I love about these Tactical dudes. Great video Tim…
neko rigs can be fished on much lighter line, rods, and terminal tackle, you can also use much smaller worms than you can with a shakey head. It's sort of the same idea as wacky rigging opposed to texas rigging a senko. A lot of people throw senkos weightless on an ewg hook with a medium heavy combo of some sort. When you wacky rig a senko, youre using small circle hooks and extremely light line on light rods. Same style of bait/presentation, different rigging technique thats more finessey.
Love everything about your videos, but when you talk about seasons (summer, fall, etc), it would be good to mention where you're talking from and if possible mention the opposite example (Ie. Florida vs Ohio). Your season is most likely not my season as I live in Mexico. Thanks !
I've never caught squat on a neko rig, shakeyhead and ned rig are killers. How deep can you fish the thing and what weights are appropriate at what depths with a 5 inch stick bait? Do you hop the thing most of them time or drag it? How high do you hop it? How much do you shake it? I usually put a zoom fat finesse worm, zlinky or a fluke on it. Any help would be appreciated.
So I've heard that on craw style baits you hook it the opposite way bc fish will flip them in their mouth to swallow tail first. And around rock snags aren't much of an issue but anywhere else the way he rigged it is necessary
Wired To Fish does a GREAT video showing why hook point UP, like a jig hook, is the BEST WAY. This way you avoid putting your hook point into cover. BTW, Ike has it WRONG.
Hey tactical bassin do you think the brallist is to long of a rod for dock fishing from a kayak, am i better off with a 854C JWR, mainly throwing 1/2 ounce pitching jig. Thanks!
If you fish standing up and you're tall. I think it would be just fine. But if you tend to sit or you're a little shorter I think the Loomis would suit you a bit better.
@@tacticalbassin Thanks For the reply, while i am a bit shorter i almost always stand. Plus i do more pitching than skipping so i will go with the Matt Special Brallist! Megabass needs to name that rod either the tactical jiggin rod or the matt allen special lol

Tim I think you're rigging them wrong buddy,,the weight should be down on the other end from the hook,, that way you're dragging the tail end with the hook being up off the bottom... anyone??????
Neko rig is pretty self explanatory, but I’m still gonna watch all 21 mins!
One of my favorite techniques for sure!
I’ve had my best days bank fishing in terms of total numbers of bass on a neko rig. Quickly became one of my favorites.
As usual Tim, a very thorough Neko video. You know you and Matt are spoiling us and we love it. Thank you.
